Dying Light The Beast XP Farm: What Still Works in 2026

The best XP farm in Dying Light: The Beast right now is not a glitch spot. It is the mission loop: story and side quests in New Game+, on the highest difficulty you can survive, with your fighting done at night. The famous Volatile farms at the Town Hall UV lights and under the church were hit by Update 1.5's anti-farming changes on 17 December 2025, and players now report Volatile XP falling to zero after repeated kills.

A note on timing, because plenty of videos promise an "after the latest patch" method: the latest update is the 1.7 Anniversary Update from 17 September 2026, and its notes contain no XP changes. Whatever worked after Update 1.5 and the March 2026 Restored Land update still works today, and with Techland's CEO saying on 14 October 2026 that no substantial new content is planned, these rules are unlikely to move.

How XP works in The Beast

Four rules decide how fast you level:

  • Quests pay the most. PowerPyx notes that regular zombie kills give very little XP, and one Steam player puts a common zombie at 15 to 25 XP. IGN says even minor side quests can pay upwards of 10,000 XP early on.
  • Night doubles kill XP. IGN's tips page says killing enemies at night doubles your XP gain. Big infected such as Demolishers, Goons and Volatiles are worth far more than biters, and GamingBolt's launch guide put a Volatile takedown at up to 500 XP.
  • Difficulty and New Game+ tier multiply everything. That is in Techland's own Legend Levels notes. Players have reported multipliers of 2.5x on NG+1, 4x on NG+2 and 5.5x on NG+3, though another player saw different values, so treat them as approximate.
  • Dying costs XP on Survival and harder (Update 1.4 reduced the loss), but not on Story difficulty.

After Level 15 everything you earn becomes Legend XP, the endgame track that runs to Legend Level 300. Our max level guide explains the cap and the rewards along the way.

What Update 1.5 patched

Techland's patch notes never name individual farms. The line that matters is in Update 1.5 (17 December 2025): it "adjusted the NewGame+ and Legendary Levels progression curves to reduce farming exploits and balance the experience better," and separately rebalanced the "amount of XP granted on higher NewGame+ levels." Here is how players describe the effect:

  • Volatile safe spots. Luring Volatiles to the Town Hall UV lights, or fighting them from the archway under the church, was the go-to Legend farm in late 2025. After 1.5, a farming creator says their XP "drops down to zero after a while".
  • Horde chaining. A Steam player reports that farms like the "hospital" one died because "the more zombies you kill in a row now the less exp you receive per kill" (January 2026).
  • Launch-week exploits. A popular September 2025 XP farm now carries a "patched" label from the creator who posted it, as does a Legend farm uploaded the day after Update 1.4.

Since then, the only XP-related additions came with Restored Land in March 2026: more XP inside that mode, and over 30 new random encounters. The later hotfixes and the 1.7 Anniversary Update dealt with bugs, Restored Land and events.

The farms that still work

The New Game+ mission loop. This is the method players keep recommending. New Game+ resets story quests, side quests, safe zones and substations while you keep your gear and character, so every quest pays again at a higher multiplier. In January 2026 one Steam player at NG+3 and above on Nightmare said main missions were paying around 200,000 XP each when he fought through them at night, and another reached Legend 276 halfway through an NG+5 speedrun. The catch is Update 1.5's scaling rule: reach Legend 300 before NG+10 and enemy difficulty adjusts, so racing ahead in a low tier makes the game harder, not easier. Our New Game+ guide covers the tiers.

A respawn route. If you prefer fighting to questing, creator fallen-Angel publishes a zombie loop through respawning areas that he clocks at 150,000 to 200,000 XP per hour, rising to 400,000 to 500,000 on NG+6 (April 2026). He notes it also runs in Restored Land mode as long as you do not clear Old Town there, but that mode caps you at Level 15, so Legend XP has to come from the regular campaign.

Encounters and gear. The Restored Land update added more than 30 random quest encounters "with enhanced rewards", and Techland says they appear in the regular game too, so stop for them between objectives. Early on, wear the Explorer set Doug sells at the Town Hall: IGN puts it at 2% extra XP per piece. Creators also show a New Game+ hat with a 5% XP bonus, reportedly limited to the first 15 levels.

And if none of this appeals, our All Unlocked Legend Level 300 save for PS5 and PC starts you at the cap with the reward track already unlocked. The rest of our Beast services are on the Dying Light store page.

Volatile farming in 2026: loot, not XP

The classic spots still work mechanically. TheGamer's guide describes luring Volatiles to the Town Hall and using its UV lights as cover, or crouching under the small archway at the church's basement access, where they cannot reach you. GamerHour's 6 December 2025 guide added that Beast Mode one-shots Volatiles from around Legend 30, which made those spots absurdly fast until Update 1.5 arrived eleven days later.

Now that the XP decays, the trip is about loot. The creator quoted above says Volatiles are only worth farming today when you need medkits or a little cash. On Nightmare, remember that the Alpha Volatile ignores the UV light from your flashlight and hunts you until you reach a safe zone, so do not count on your torch at those spots.

XP glitches and AFK videos: read this first

Search for a Dying Light: The Beast XP glitch and YouTube serves a steady stream of "unlimited XP" and AFK methods, some posted after the Anniversary Update. We are not linking them. Several come from channels whose descriptions sell services, Discord "modded drops" or save bots, and older ones often end up relabelled "patched". If you try one anyway, back up your save first.

On PC, trainers with XP multipliers and save editors exist; consoles have no trainers. Techland's support site says The Beast does not support external mods, that they "will corrupt your save files and, eventually, break the game," and that it especially does not recommend duplicating items, which can affect the game's difficulty. Unofficial executables are also a common route for malware, so do not run tools you cannot verify. Our cheats and god mode guide covers what is possible on each platform, and our duplication glitch guide covers item dupes.

Farming safely in co-op

Running the mission loop with friends is fine. The risks come from strangers and from shortcuts:

  • Guests keep what they earn. XP and loot you earn in someone else's session stay with your character.
  • Legend rewards cannot be passed around. Since Update 1.5, players without Legend progress can no longer pick up Legend reward weapons a teammate drops, or learn their blueprints.
  • Be wary of "XP lobbies". Public "drop lobbies" advertised by service channels hand out modded items, and Techland says mods can corrupt your saves. Treat anything a stranger gives you as a risk.
  • Back up before you experiment. Techland's support site lists the PC save folders for manual backups; on consoles, keep a cloud copy where your platform supports it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best XP farm in Dying Light: The Beast right now?

Story and side quests in New Game+ on the highest difficulty you can manage, with your fighting done at night. The Volatile farms were nerfed in Update 1.5 on 17 December 2025.

Is there still an XP glitch after the patch?

None we can verify on patch 1.7. Videos keep appearing, but several come from channels selling services, and Techland warns that mods and duplicated items can corrupt saves and affect difficulty.

Does night really give double XP?

For kills, yes, according to IGN, and creators report triple on Nightmare. Players report that quest completion rewards are the same day or night.

Is there a double XP event right now?

No. The last one ran from 18 to 21 September 2026 for the anniversary, and Techland's CEO said on 14 October 2026 that no substantial new content is planned.

Do you keep XP earned in someone else's co-op game?

Yes. XP and loot you earn as a guest stay with your character when you go back to your own save.

How long does it take to reach Legend 300?

There is no reliable figure. Players describe several New Game+ loops; one reached Legend 276 halfway through an NG+5 speedrun, and Legend XP per level climbs from about 23,000 early on to about 59,000 by the 60s and 70s.
