A first run through Resident Evil Requiem's story takes most players about 9 to 12 hours, and HowLongToBeat's community average for the main story stood at 10.5 hours shortly after launch. Seeing everything (every collectible, every challenge and an Insanity clear) stretches that to roughly 25 to 30 hours, while a planned platinum route lands closer to 20. Difficulty, how thoroughly you explore and whether you chase the speedrun trophy move those numbers more than anything else.
We checked this against Game8's length and post-game pages, PowerPyx's trophy roadmap, Destructoid's and Dexerto's playthrough estimates, HowLongToBeat's figures as reported by Dark Horizons, and IGN's walkthrough in November 2026.
How Long the Main Story Takes
The estimates cluster tightly. Game8 puts a single playthrough at about 8 to 12 hours. Destructoid's launch-week estimate was nine or 10 hours for an average player, and Dexerto's writer finished a first run on Classic in just over 10 hours while still exploring optional areas, opening safes and solving puzzles. Dark Horizons, citing HowLongToBeat in early March 2026, reported 10.5 hours for the main story.

Difficulty shifts that window by a few hours either way. Destructoid's breakdown:
- Casual: around eight hours, if not less. On Casual your health also recharges to the moderate (yellow) level on its own, according to PowerPyx, so you lose less time to healing detours.
- Standard (Modern): about 10 hours, including some collectibles and files.
- Standard (Classic): about 11 to 12 hours. Classic is the same challenge level as Modern, but Grace needs Ink Ribbons to make manual saves at typewriters, so every death can cost you more replayed ground.
Insanity is not available on a first run; it unlocks after you beat the story once on any difficulty. Our difficulty guide explains the other differences between the modes.
Every Way to Play It, With Typical Times
Requiem has no traditional New Game Plus, according to both Game8 and PowerPyx. Instead, a finished save opens the bonus shop, where challenge points buy modifiers such as infinite ammo for your next fresh run, and only files, destroyed Mr. Raccoons, items bought in the bonus menu and Grace's charms carry over. That structure makes repeat runs much faster than the first, which is why the platinum takes less time than you might expect.
| Run type | Typical time | Where the figure comes from |
|---|---|---|
| First playthrough, story focus | 8 to 12 hours | Game8 |
| Main story average | 10.5 hours | HowLongToBeat via Dark Horizons, March 2026 |
| Casual run with all collectibles | 10 to 15 hours | PowerPyx roadmap, step 1 |
| Speedrun for Speed Demon | 3 to 4 hours | PowerPyx and Game8 |
| Insanity with bonus weapons | About 3 hours | PowerPyx roadmap, step 3 |
| Platinum trophy | About 20 hours | PowerPyx |
| Completionist | 25 to 30 hours | Game8 (HowLongToBeat listed 27 hours in March) |
The gap between the platinum estimate and the completionist one is mostly method. PowerPyx's route stacks trophies into three tight runs, while a completionist figure includes players who explore at their own pace, replay sections and dabble in the post-game.
What Adds Hours to a First Run
Collectibles are the biggest variable. PowerPyx counts 75 files, 25 Mr. Raccoon memoriams to destroy, 3 BSAA containers and 5 safes, and most are missable in the sense that there is no chapter select to go back for them. A player who hunts each area thoroughly will easily add a few hours over someone who follows the critical path.

Where you slow down also matters. IGN's walkthrough splits the story into 15 segments, and Grace's search for the three Quartz in the care center holds 23 of the game's 75 files on its own, more files than any other segment, plus four Mr. Raccoons. Grace's chapters also tend to run slower than Leon's, because they reward stealth, backtracking and puzzle solving, while Leon's are built for pushing forward. Our puzzle solutions guide and safe codes guide can save real time in those Grace-heavy stretches.
A few other habits stretch a first run:
- Dying on Classic or Insanity, where manual saves cost Ink Ribbons.
- Fighting everything as Grace instead of avoiding enemies she is not built to kill.
- Reading every file in full as you find it, which is worthwhile but slow.
- Switching between first and third person repeatedly while learning the camera you prefer.
How to Keep a First Run Efficient Without Rushing It
You do not need a speedrun mindset to avoid wasted hours. Most lost time in Requiem comes from replaying sections after a death or backtracking for something you missed, and both are avoidable with a few habits drawn from the guides we used.
- Save often on Modern. Ink Ribbons do not exist on Casual or Standard (Modern), so typewriter saves cost nothing there; use them before every unexplored door. On Classic, keep ribbons for the stretches before bosses and long sections.
- Keep one manual save per area. PowerPyx recommends this because there is no chapter select, and with 12 manual slots you can keep a save for each region and still jump back for a missed file.
- As Grace, avoid rather than fight. Capcom's manual says the hemolytic injector kills in one hit from stealth or on a staggered enemy, which is faster than emptying a pistol into a zombie.
- As Leon, finish enemies properly. IGN notes that a hatchet finisher destroys or severs the head so the zombie stays down, which saves time when you pass back through an area.
- Use lockpicks as Grace when you find them. PowerPyx notes that locked drawers are marked on the map once you are near them, so a quick map check stops you from walking past one.
None of this skips content, so it pairs well with a thorough collectible run. Our save file location guide also explains how to back up a finished save before you start experimenting with bonus runs.
How Long the Platinum Takes
PowerPyx rates the platinum 4 out of 10 for difficulty and about 20 hours long, across 50 trophies with none online. Technically two playthroughs are enough, but three are recommended because combining everything into two runs needs prior knowledge. The roadmap looks like this:
- A Casual playthrough with every collectible and missable trophy, taking 10 to 15 hours. Keep a manual save at the start of each area, because there is no chapter select and the game offers 12 manual save slots.
- A Casual speedrun that also avoids healing items and never picks up the Blood Collector, taking 3 to 4 hours.
- An Insanity run using Infinite Ammo and the infinite RPG bought with the points from the first two runs, taking about 3 hours.
- Buying and viewing all Concept Art and Models in the bonus menu, which costs 10,000 CP in total.
The Insanity clear alone pays 40,000 CP, according to both PowerPyx and Game8, which is why the cosmetic unlocks are best saved for last. Our trophy guide goes through the list in more detail.
Speedrunning for the Speed Demon Trophy
Speed Demon asks you to finish the story within four hours while choosing to release Elpis at the end, so it also locks you into the main ending. PowerPyx calls the limit lenient and says a run under three hours is realistic. The in-game timer stops while you are in the pause menu, and after your first clear you can track your time under Challenges, then Speed Demon. Beating the game in under four hours also unlocks the Infinite Ribbon, which allows unlimited manual saves on Insanity.
PowerPyx pairs the speedrun with two restriction trophies, Never Touch the Stuff (no herbs or med injectors) and the no-Blood-Collector run tracked as Minimalist, and suggests buying Grace's unbreakable Kotetsu knife from the bonus shop first so she can melee threats out of the way without spending ammo. On Casual the health regeneration makes the no-healing rule far less scary than it sounds.
PowerPyx's split targets for a three-hour run give a sense of pacing: Leon's care center attic section by about 45 minutes, Leon reaching Raccoon City by 1 hour 25 minutes, the motorcycle chase finished by 2 hours 5 minutes, Leon reaching ARK by 2 hours 27 minutes, and the credits at 3 hours. Game8 likewise puts a speedrun at about 3 to 4 hours. If you want the release ending's details before committing, our endings guide covers both choices.
Post-Game Hours: Leon Must Die Forever and the Bonus Shop
Once the credits roll, two things can keep you busy well past the completionist estimates. The first is the bonus shop. According to PCGamesN, Infinite Ammo for guns costs 50,000 CP, the RPG-7 costs 15,000 CP and its infinite ammo another 35,000, so unlocking the strongest modifiers takes several runs' worth of challenges. Game8 counts 50 challenges in the base game that pay out CP.
The second is Leon Must Die Forever, the free minigame added on May 8, 2026. It unlocks after you finish the story, runs on a timer and has five difficulty ranks, and the area order and ability options change on every attempt, so its length is whatever you make of it. Our DLC and updates guide covers what it adds.
If the Trophy Cleanup Is the Part You Would Skip
For many players the story is the fun part and the speedrun, the no-healing run and the Insanity clear are the chore. If that is you, the Resident Evil Requiem platinum trophy service covers full platinum completion, with every bronze, silver and gold trophy unlocked directly on your account and a choice between instant timestamps or timestamps spread across different dates and times.
It is a PS5 service only, and its page notes that any DLC-only trophies would need the matching DLC. If you would rather replay with everything already unlocked instead, the modded save and the trophy service are both listed on the Resident Evil Requiem store page.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many hours is Resident Evil Requiem?
About 9 to 12 hours for the story on a first run. HowLongToBeat's average was 10.5 hours in March 2026, and Casual runs can come in around eight.
How long does the Resident Evil Requiem platinum take?
About 20 hours following PowerPyx's three-run route: a collectible run, a speedrun without healing, and an Insanity run with bonus weapons.
How long is a 100 percent completion run?
Game8 estimates 25 to 30 hours for every collectible, the challenges and an Insanity clear. HowLongToBeat listed 27 hours for completionists in March 2026.
Can you beat Resident Evil Requiem in under 4 hours?
Yes. The Speed Demon trophy requires it, and PowerPyx says a run under three hours is achievable once you know the route. You must release Elpis at the end for it to count.
Does Resident Evil Requiem have New Game Plus?
Not a traditional one. Finishing the game opens the bonus shop for modifiers on a fresh run, and only a few things such as files, Mr. Raccoons and bonus purchases carry over.
Is Leon Must Die Forever long?
Individual runs are short and timed, but with five ranks and randomized routes it is designed for repeat attempts rather than a fixed length.
