Destiny 2 Armor Set Bonuses: Every Set Worth Farming

Destiny 2 YouTube thumbnail: The ONLY Armor Set Bonuses Worth Using in Destiny 2

Armor set bonuses in Destiny 2 are extra perks that switch on when you wear two and then four pieces from the same Armor 3.0 set, so every set carries one two-piece perk and one four-piece perk. As of November 2026 there are more than 50 sets with bonuses, because the Monument of Triumph update gave raids, dungeons, destinations and playlists their own sets on top of the ones added with The Edge of Fate. The trick is not collecting all of them but picking the two or three combinations that actually feed your build.

We checked this against Bungie's Update 9.0.0.1 and 9.7.0 patch notes, the Dev Insights armor preview, the Monument of Triumph FAQ on Bungie Help and the Blueberries set bonus database in November 2026.

How the Set Bonus System Works

Set bonuses arrived with Armor 3.0 in Update 9.0.0.1, the patch that launched The Edge of Fate on July 15, 2025. Every armor set built on that system can provide up to two bonus perks: one when you equip two pieces from the set and a second when you equip four. Bungie's own example in its Monument of Triumph FAQ is the Ferropotent set, where wearing a helmet and arms piece enables Rapid Repair, a short burst of flinch resistance and damage resistance at the moment your shields start to regenerate.

The same patch changed how armor rolls. Armor 3.0 always drops with full mod energy, and each piece now rolls three stats: a primary stat, a secondary stat and a lower tertiary stat. The archetype decides which stats are primary and secondary, and the gear tier decides the total stat budget, so a Tier 5 piece simply carries more points than a Tier 2 piece from the same set. Masterworking also works differently, adding one point per level to the three stats the piece did not roll, up to five levels.

The game shows you what is active. Update 9.0.0.1 added a display of your currently active set bonuses on the character screen, which is the quickest way to confirm that a mixed loadout is doing what you think it is. If a bonus is missing, the usual cause is a piece from an older version of the set, since legacy Armor 2.0 pieces do not count toward the new perks.

What Monument of Triumph Added and Rebalanced

Bungie described the June 9, 2026 update as adding more set bonuses than it had ever put into a single release. Destinations that existed before The Edge of Fate received new loot with themed sets, every pre-Edge of Fate raid and dungeon now drops tiered armor with unique set bonuses, and Gambit Ops gained its own armor set as well. The older options did not go away; Bungie said it did not expect the new sets to replace them.

Two existing perks were tuned in the same patch. Ride Together, Die Together, the two-piece perk on Smoke Jumper, had its maximum damage resistance cut from 50 to 40 percent because Orbs of Power are so easy to find that it was becoming a default pick. Superluminal Motion, the four-piece perk on Wayward Psyche from the Epic version of The Desert Perpetual, had its healing while moving doubled from 15 to 30 health per second outside the Crucible, with PvP behavior left unchanged.

One limit matters for raiders. Bungie confirmed that the new Armor 3.0 raid sets do not take raid mods, because raid mods are tied to Armor 2.0 for technical reasons. To keep both options open, Armor 2.0 from nine raids, including Last Wish, Deep Stone Crypt and Salvation's Edge, can now be focused at Hawthorne with high stats for ten Spoils of Conquest per piece. That gives you a real choice in a raid: old armor with a raid mod or new armor with a set bonus.

Small fixes kept coming after launch too. Update 9.7.0.2 reworked the two-piece perk on the Pale Heart set so that each stack of Stack 'Em Up grants a fixed amount of both Light and Dark Transcendence energy, after a technical issue meant the perk was not granting the multiplier it described.

Raid and Dungeon Sets Worth the Chase

The endgame sets are where the most specific perks live. The Pantheon gauntlet set, Pantheos Resplendent, turns ammo brick pickups into Armor Charge that boosts your Health stat, then rewards sustained damage on bosses and Champions with a weapon damage bonus at four pieces. Salvation's Edge's Promised set grants damage resistance and weapon damage after you defeat a powerful combatant, and its four-piece perk adds resonance bursts that damage and exhaust targets while that buff is active.

Older raids received sets that fit their themes. Vault of Glass armor, Atheon's Memory, gives you a temporary Health bonus and a burst of radiolaria fluid the next time your shields break after grabbing an Orb of Power, and its four-piece perk creates Orbs of Power from sustained damage while any subclass buff is active. Deep Stone Crypt's Legacy's Oath fires a swarm of heat-seeking micro-missiles when combatants break your shields or the moment you cast your Super.

Dungeon sets lean toward specific weapons and abilities. Sage Protector from Equilibrium is built around Swords, returning grenade and class energy on Sword hits. Echo, from Grasp of Avarice, stacks Untold Greed from ammo, orbs and elemental pickups for damage reduction and reload speed, then converts every stack into a fountain of Orbs of Power when your shields break. Techeun's Regalia from The Shattered Throne gives a strong overshield during finishers and, at four pieces, faster ability recharge once its damage resistance stacks are full.

Everyday Sets From Destinations and Playlists

You do not need a raid team to build around a strong bonus. The Fireteam and Solo Ops pool holds several of the most flexible perks in the game. Ferropotent pairs Rapid Repair with Built From Scratch, which adds ammo progress from final blows when your reserves are low. Techsec makes Kinetic damage hit shields, overshields, vehicles and constructs much harder, then releases a disorienting shockwave when you break a shield with Kinetic damage. Smoke Jumper, even after its nerf, still grants decaying damage reduction on every orb pickup.

Pinnacle and Arena Ops sets reward specific weapon habits. Bushido heals you on final blows with freshly drawn or freshly reloaded weapons, and its four-piece perk reduces incoming damage after Bow, Shotgun or Sword final blows. Swordmaster exhausts targets you hit with Swords, Glaives or standard melee, which lowers the damage they deal to your whole fireteam.

The destination sets added in June are worth a look because they drop from public events. Exodus Down on Nessus collects every nearby Orb of Power and ammo brick the instant your shields break, and at four pieces heals you whenever you gain, lose or spend Armor Charge. Reverie Dawn from the Dreaming City makes you harder to hit after you take a burst of damage, then cures you when that protection expires. Seventh Seraph on the Cosmodrome builds Warmind Charges from area damage and Solar abilities for higher Weapons and Grenade stats.

Crucible players have their own pool. Iron Banner's Iron Panoply heals you on weapon final blows while your shields are down, and the newer Iron Battalion set boosts Primary weapon handling and reload speed. The Iron Banner schedule and rewards guide covers when Lord Saladin's gear can be earned and focused.

Choosing Two-Piece and Four-Piece Combinations

Most builds wear one Exotic armor piece, which leaves four Legendary slots. That gives you two basic shapes: one full four-piece set, or two different two-piece bonuses. Bungie itself noted that many players were defaulting to a handful of two-piece pairings before June, which is why it added so many new sets; the larger pool now makes the two-plus-two shape far more flexible.

A sensible way to decide is to ask whether a set's four-piece perk changes how you play. Overflowing Coffers on Echo, which turns your shield break into a burst of orbs, is a genuine build engine for an orb-heavy setup, so it earns all four slots. When the four-piece perk is only a small extra, take the two-piece perk and spend the other two slots on a second set, such as Ferropotent for survival plus a damage-oriented pairing from a raid.

Remember that stats still matter as much as perks. The archetype on each piece sets its primary and secondary stats, and Monument of Triumph doubled the archetype pool to twelve, adding options such as Siegebreaker (Health and Grenade) and Powerhouse (Weapons and Super). If a set you want only drops in the wrong archetype for your build, you may be better off with a different set that rolls the stats you need. Our guide to the best builds in the final sandbox shows how those stat targets change by subclass.

Farming the Right Pieces Faster

The quickest raid source is the weekly featured raid, where encounters and challenges on Standard difficulty drop Tier 5 armor that can be farmed, while non-featured raids drop Tier 3 armor on Standard. Dungeons follow the same pattern: featured dungeons drop Tier 5 weapons and armor on Standard, while non-featured dungeons need Master difficulty for Tier 5. The raid rotation guide and the dungeon list and keys guide explain how that weekly pairing works.

Out in the world, public events are one of the best sources of tiered destination armor. A base completion drops Tier 3 rewards with a chance at Tier 4 or 5, a Heroic completion drops Tier 4 with a chance at Tier 5, and during a Distortion both results move up one tier. Distortions rotate to a single destination every hour, and the active one is marked on the Destinations screen.

Your Ghost helps too. Monument of Triumph raised the odds of an Armorer mod's chosen archetype to roughly one in two, up from one in three. Vendor focusing now reaches Tier 5 for armor because armor, unlike weapons, cannot be upgraded later, so an expensive focus is a better deal for armor than for a gun you could upgrade anyway. The same tier logic applies to weapons, which our god roll guide breaks down.

Starting With an Established Account

Collecting four matching Tier 5 pieces in the right archetype is a long grind, especially for raid sets that only drop in full Tier 5 on featured weeks. If you would rather start from a character that already has endgame gear, the store's Destiny 2 hub shows account listings from independent sellers, often described by Power level, Guardian Rank and the sets or builds already unlocked, and the listings change daily. Before deciding, know that Bungie's Terms of Use treat accounts as licensed content that players may not sell, trade or otherwise transfer unless Bungie specifically permits it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many pieces do you need for a set bonus in Destiny 2?

Two pieces from the same Armor 3.0 set unlock the first perk and four pieces unlock the second. Each set has exactly those two perks.

Can you mix two different set bonuses?

Yes. With an Exotic in one slot you can wear two pieces of one set and two of another to run both two-piece perks at the same time.

Do old Armor 2.0 pieces count toward set bonuses?

No. Set bonuses belong to Armor 3.0 gear. Armor 2.0 raid pieces keep their raid mod slot instead, and Hawthorne can focus them for ten Spoils of Conquest each.

What is the best armor set bonus right now?

It depends on the build, but survival sets such as Ferropotent and Smoke Jumper are common picks, while raid sets like Promised and Pantheos Resplendent suit damage-focused loadouts.

Where do I see my active set bonuses?

The character screen shows a set bonus display, added in Update 9.0.0.1, that lists which two-piece and four-piece perks are currently active.

Will Bungie add more armor sets?

Monument of Triumph was announced as the final live-service content update, so no new sets are planned. Bungie has said it is working on restoring vaulted content and a separate celebration update, with details expected in February.
