The highest trophy level a PS5 shows is 999, the only level that earns the Platinum icon, and reaching it takes about 1.63 million trophy points. A handful of players have gone far past that total: third-party trackers keep counting beyond 999, and as of November 2026 the top of the PSN100 leaderboard sits above level 1,600. This page covers what level 999 requires, who holds the records, why tracker levels go higher than the console, and what realistic milestones look like for everyone else.
We checked this against the PlayStation Blog's October 2020 announcement, PlayStation Universe's breakdown of the level formula, Guinness World Records, Insider Gaming's August 2025 report and the PSN100 leaderboard and methodology pages in November 2026.
Level 999 Is the Ceiling on Your Console
When Sony overhauled trophy levels on October 7, 2020, the PlayStation Blog set the range at 1 to 999, replacing the old 1 to 100 scale. It also split the level icon into four bands: Bronze for levels 1 to 299, Silver for 300 to 599, Gold for 600 to 998 and Platinum for level 999 alone. So the Platinum icon is not a range you move through; it is a single destination at the very top.

That makes 999 the highest number you will ever see on a PS5, in the PlayStation App or on your web profile. The console does not show four-digit levels. Once an account reaches 999, it stays there no matter how many more trophies arrive, and the extra trophies still count toward totals and trackers, just not toward a bigger number on the console.
If you are newer to how the scale works, our guide to PS5 trophy levels explained covers the full point table and the reasoning behind the tiers.
How Many Points Level 999 Takes
Sony did not publish its formula, but the community worked it out within a day. PlayStation Universe reported on October 8, 2020 that a PSNProfiles forum member had calculated the values: Bronze 15 points, Silver 30, Gold 90 and Platinum 300, with each level costing more points as you climb. Levels in the 900s cost 3,600 points apiece, the equivalent of 240 Bronze trophies per level.
Adding every band together, PlayStation Universe put the total for level 999 at 1,631,340 points. To put that in perspective:
- It equals more than 5,400 platinums if you counted platinums alone, although nobody earns them alone.
- It equals 108,756 Bronze trophies if you counted only Bronze.
- The final hundred levels, from 900 to 999, cost around 356,000 points by themselves, more than the first four hundred levels combined.
That last point is why the climb feels so slow at the top. A player at level 950 who earns a long open-world platinum might gain under a level from the entire list. The scale is deliberately front-loaded: early levels come quickly, and the top tier rewards years of consistent completion.
Who Holds the Records
Several hunters have far exceeded what level 999 requires. The most cited names come from PSNProfiles rankings, reported by outlets that can be checked:

- dav1d_123 (David Tremblay, Canada) holds the Guinness World Records title for the most PlayStation Platinum trophies won, with 9,224 platinums verified on PSNProfiles on 18 December 2023. At that time Guinness listed his totals as 244,482 trophies and 12,723,585 points, second overall behind ikemenzi of Japan, who had 287,668 trophies and 13,362,480 points.
- By August 2025, Insider Gaming reported dav1d_123 at 15,489 platinums and 21,228,060 points on PSNProfiles.
- timpurnat passed 15,000 platinums in August 2025. Insider Gaming put him at 15,020 platinums, more than 387,000 trophies, 20,422,230 points and level 999 on PSN, second on PSNProfiles behind dav1d_123.
The pace behind those numbers is the striking part. Insider Gaming reported that timpurnat was averaging 112.2 trophies per day, and that his 14,929th platinum came from Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival. Even if every one of those daily trophies were a Bronze worth 15 points, that is 1,680 points a day, enough to cover the entire 1,631,340 points for level 999 in under three years. That shows how far beyond the console's cap the record holders operate.
Those point totals are more than twelve times what level 999 needs. Records change daily, as Guinness itself notes, so the exact standings in November 2026 may differ from the last published figures. We could not load PSNProfiles directly for this update, so the numbers above are the most recent ones published by Guinness and Insider Gaming.
Why Trackers Show Levels Above 999
Third-party sites keep extending the formula past 999 to rank players who have all hit the console's cap. The PSN100 tracker explains on its methodology page that it uses the same point values and keeps increasing the level requirement by 450 points every hundred levels, so its levels continue upward without a fixed limit.
When we checked its trophy leaderboard in November 2026, the top entries looked like this:
- caro3c-gabber9 at level 1,606 with 4,782,225 points and 3,364 platinums.
- dav1d_123 at level 1,575 with 4,588,260 points and 3,156 platinums.
- ginko765 at level 1,555 with 4,457,955 points and 3,144 platinums.
Those platinum counts look far lower than the PSNProfiles figures above, and that is not a contradiction. PSN100 says it merges game stacks and filters out unobtainable trophies, so multiple versions of the same game count once, and its rankings only draw on its own tracked player set. PSNProfiles counts every stack separately. The two sites answer different questions: PSN100 comes closer to counting distinct games, while PSNProfiles counts every list on the account. Both are third-party estimates, and neither is the number your PS5 displays.
Stacks matter here because many games release on several platforms or regions with separate lists. Some of those lists can fill automatically from existing progress, which our guide to PS5 auto-pop platinums covers in detail.
What Level 999 Means for a Normal Player
For most people, 999 is not a realistic target, and that is fine. A quick bit of arithmetic shows why. Imagine a typical completed list worth around 1,500 points once you add the platinum to its Gold, Silver and Bronze trophies. At that rate, level 999 needs roughly 1,090 completed lists. Finishing two games a month, every month, would take about 45 years.
The tiers below the cap are far more reachable, and they make better goals:
- Level 100. Each level below 100 costs only 60 points, so a handful of platinums gets a new account there quickly.
- Level 300, the Silver icon. The first visible change of icon color, and a solid mark of a dedicated hunter.
- Level 600, the Gold icon. A serious long-term collection, with levels in the 600s costing 2,250 points each.
Short, forgiving platinums are the most efficient way to build toward those milestones. Our list of easy PS5 platinum trophies includes several that take under 15 hours with nothing missable.
Your strategy should shift as you climb. Below level 200, almost anything moves the needle, so playing whatever you enjoy works fine. Between 200 and 600, completing lists matters far more than sampling, because stray Bronze trophies barely register against levels that cost 450 to 1,800 points. Above 600, the hunters who keep climbing tend to be the ones who finish nearly everything they start and pick lists they can realistically complete.
Making a High Level Look Its Best
A big level is part of how others see your profile, but it sits next to everything else you can customize. Your avatar, profile picture and cover image all frame the number, and a well-chosen avatar can make a modest level feel like part of a deliberate look. Our guide to PS5 avatars covers where to change them and how custom pictures work.
It is also worth deciding what kind of high level you want. Some collectors prize a level built from long, difficult lists. Others care more about the icon tier itself. Neither is wrong, but knowing which you value makes it easier to pick games and avoid burning out on lists you do not enjoy.
If you want to see how you measure up to friends, the PS5 has a built-in comparison. PlayStation's support page says you can open another player's profile and check the Overview tab, or press the triangle button on your own trophies screen to compare. That is often more motivating than a global leaderboard: closing the gap on a friend a few levels ahead is a goal you can actually hit this year.
A Level 999 Profile Without the Decades
For collectors who want the Platinum icon now rather than in several decades, the store's Trophy Level 999 service lists Trophy Level 999 with 1,284 platinums, 6,582 Gold, 13,972 Silver and 31,480 Bronze trophies. Its page states that the service uses PS Vita games to apply the trophies, lists same-day delivery, and says it works on PS3, PS4 and PS5.
The product page links an example of what a finished profile looks like. If you would rather target specific games or a smaller boost, the full PlayStation trophy section lists the other services side by side.
