Ghost of Yotei takes about 30 hours to beat if you focus on the main story, around 46 and a half hours with a healthy share of side content, and roughly 60 and a half hours to complete everything, based on HowLongToBeat's headline figures in November 2026. A story-only rush on Casual can be done in about 10 hours, the platinum trophy takes 50 to 70 hours, and the Echoes of Sekigahara expansion adds roughly 6 to 11 hours on top depending on how thoroughly you clear it.
We checked this against HowLongToBeat's player-submitted times, PowerPyx's story length guide and its trophy roadmaps for the base game, Legends, Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted, Game Rant's raid walkthrough and the PlayStation Blog's raid interview in November 2026.
The Short Answer, With Real Numbers
HowLongToBeat's figures come from hundreds of finished playthroughs. Its Main Story average sits at 30 hours 26 minutes from 175 submissions, with a median of exactly 30 hours, a rushed figure of 22 hours 36 minutes and a leisurely one of 40 hours 6 minutes. Main plus sides averages 47 hours 10 minutes across 470 players, and completionists average 61 hours 29 minutes across 656, while the site's headline summary shows 46 and a half and 60 and a half hours for those two categories.

| Content | Main | Main + extras | Completionist |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base game | 30 hours | 46.5 hours | 60.5 hours |
| Echoes of Sekigahara | 7 hours | 8 hours | 11 hours |
| Legends | 5 hours | 8 hours | 39 hours |
| Most Wanted | 2 hours | 3 hours | 5 hours |
PowerPyx frames the same question by playstyle. Its story length guide estimates about 10 hours for a story-only rush on Casual, 20 to 30 hours on Medium with a moderate amount of side content, and 50 to 60 hours for a completionist run on Easy to Medium. Playing on Hard or Lethal adds another 10 to 20 hours on top of those estimates because of the tougher combat.
Why Main Story Estimates Vary So Much
The gap between a 10-hour rush and a 30-hour average comes down to how the campaign is built. PowerPyx counts 10 main quests. Three of them, The Oni, The Kitsune and The Saito Brothers, are long missions of about 90 to 120 minutes each that you can tackle in any order, while the other seven run around 30 minutes apiece, roughly three and a half hours in total. Add those up and the bare critical path is short; everything else is optional.
Optional content is also where much of your arsenal comes from, which pulls most players off the critical path. PowerPyx notes that the dual katana and odachi arrive automatically through the story, but the yari and kusarigama only come from optional sensei tales, and several armor sets are rewards for mythic and side tales. Anyone who wants the full toolkit will spend far more than 10 hours, simply because the best gear lives off the main road.
Exploration is where the hours go. The map does not unfog automatically, and PowerPyx estimates around 10 hours just to reveal it across the six regions: Yotei Grasslands, Ishikari Plain, Tokachi Range, Nayoro Wilds, Teshio Ridge and Oshima Coast. Its roadmap also notes that only about a fifth of the full map is actually explorable, so the playable regions are more compact than the full map suggests.
Difficulty is the other variable. The settings run from Casual up to Lethal, and there are no difficulty-related trophies, so the only reason to play harder is the challenge. If you want the story without the friction, Casual plus the accessibility options is a perfectly valid way to play and sits at the short end of every estimate.
Completionist and Platinum Time
PowerPyx puts the platinum at 50 to 70 hours and breaks its roadmap down into about 10 hours of story, 10 hours of trophy-relevant side tales, 10 hours for the 31 bounties and 20 hours for collectibles and Yotei Six Camps, with a short cleanup at the end. It estimates the bare minimum on Casual at about 50 hours, and closer to 60 or more on Medium if you also play quests that no trophy requires.

That lines up with HowLongToBeat's completionist average of about 61 hours. The platinum needs roughly 85 percent completion rather than everything, since you can skip the Ainu Items and Pillars of the Fallen and need only 30 of the 61 Altars of Reflection, which is why a focused trophy hunter can finish faster than a player who sweeps every icon. Our collectibles guide lists exactly which categories count.
Bounties are the sneaky time sink. They only point you toward a search area rather than marking the target, and the game has no in-game overview of completed tales and bounties, so PowerPyx suggests keeping your own list as you go. The full roadmap and trophy list are in our trophy guide.
Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted
The Echoes of Sekigahara expansion, released on October 1, 2026, is the bigger of the two Complete Edition add-ons. PowerPyx estimates 6 to 8 hours to finish everything: 4 to 5 hours for the story tales, 1 to 2 hours for the Mythic Tale, side tale, bounties and Viper Storehouses, and about an hour for the final mission. HowLongToBeat's 38 submissions land at 7 hours for the story and 11 for completionists. You can only start it after defeating the Oni and the Kitsune, by picking Nagato the Handsome from any bounty board.
Timing matters for that expansion. PowerPyx places Echoes in the new Ashoro Foothills region toward the end of the main story, and to finish it completely you also need to have reached Oshima Coast. If you are partway through the campaign when you buy it, the most efficient approach is to play on until both requirements are met and then take the expansion as one block, rather than splitting its seven main tales across several sessions.
Most Wanted is short per run but open-ended. PowerPyx clocks each bounty mission at 10 to 15 minutes and estimates 2 to 3 hours to finish the trophy list on Casual, with a minimum of seven runs. Unlocking every hunter takes longer, because Jin Sakai only appears after about 28,800 Mon of total spending according to KeenGamer. Our Most Wanted guide explains the run structure and unlocks.
Legends and the Raid
Legends, the free online co-op mode, has no fixed length because it is built around replaying missions for better gear. Its story is 12 two-player missions with four Incursions, and Survival tiers each run 12 waves, but the long tail is class progression: PowerPyx estimates 20 to 30 or more hours to finish the Legends trophy list, which includes reaching rank 25 with all four classes. HowLongToBeat's numbers for the mode come from only five players, so treat them as a rough sketch.
The Raid is the time-heavy finale. Game Rant estimates one to one and a half hours for the Dragon raid alone, and lead designer Darren Bridges told the PlayStation Blog that most teams needed two to three hours to beat Lord Saito at launch, while the world's fastest team did it in about two minutes after an hour of preparation. Our Legends raid guide covers both fights.
New Game Plus and Replay Value
Patch 1.100 added New Game Plus on November 24, 2025, so the campaign does not have to end with the credits. You restart from the prologue with your armor, abilities and weapons, harder difficulty options become available, and the Mo Ichido trophy asks you to finish Atsu's hunt again. The same patch made all 22 Yotei Six Camps and 26 duels replayable once you have cleared them, which adds short, repeatable challenges to the endgame.
A second run should move faster than your first because your gear is already unlocked and you know the map, although the tougher difficulty options can slow you back down. Our New Game Plus guide covers Ghost Flowers and the new vendor that give the replay its own reward loop.
Three Ways to Budget Your Hours
If you only want the story, plan for the three long tales as evening-sized sessions of 90 to 120 minutes each and fit the seven shorter tales in between. Pick up Hot Springs and Altars of Reflection when they are on your route, since they make fights easier, and you will land somewhere between PowerPyx's 10-hour rush and HowLongToBeat's 30-hour average depending on how often you get distracted.
For a balanced run of around 45 hours, add the sensei tales that unlock the yari and kusarigama, the mythic tales that award armor, and the Wolf Dens and Shrine Climbs you pass along the way. That roughly matches HowLongToBeat's main plus sides figure, and it gives you the full weapon set before the final act.
For the platinum, follow PowerPyx's order: finish the story, then the trophy-relevant side tales, then all 31 bounties, then the collectibles and camps, saving miscellaneous combat trophies for the end. Budget 50 to 70 hours, and add 6 to 8 hours if you want Echoes of Sekigahara done as well.
If the Platinum Is the Only Goal
Fifty to seventy hours is a big ask if the trophy is what you care about most. The store's Ghost of Yotei platinum trophy service covers the full platinum on PS5, with every bronze, silver and gold trophy unlocked on your account. You choose how the timestamps look: all at once within a few seconds, or spread across different dates and times with realistic gaps between them.
Its page notes that the counts follow the game's standard PSN trophy list and that any DLC-only trophies require the matching DLC, so message the store first if you also want the add-on lists. Every other Ghost of Yotei service is on the Ghost of Yotei hub.
Frequently Asked Questions
