Ghost of Yotei Collectibles: Every Type, Count and Reward

Ghost of Yotei YouTube thumbnail: Yotei Grasslands All Collectibles 100% Ghost of Yotei

Ghost of Yotei has 319 collectible locations in the base game according to PowerPyx's completion guide, spread over categories such as Hot Springs, Bamboo Strikes, Altars of Reflection, Shrine Climbs, Fox Dens, Wolf Dens, Sumi-e paintings and puzzle boxes. None of them are missable, because everything stays available in free roam after the story. The ones worth chasing first are the collectibles that make Atsu stronger: Hot Springs raise health, Bamboo Strikes raise Spirit, Altars of Reflection grant skill points, and Shrine Climbs and Fox Dens hand out charms.

We checked this against PowerPyx's Ghost of Yotei collectibles hub and its individual category guides, its platinum roadmap, Sucker Punch's official patch 1.100 notes and PowerPyx's Echoes of Sekigahara roadmap in November 2026.

How Many Collectibles There Are and How to Track Them

The map is split into six regions: Yotei Grasslands, Ishikari Plain, Tokachi Range, Nayoro Wilds, Teshio Ridge and Oshima Coast. Most collectibles are marked on the map once you get close, and anything you have already found shows as a crossed-out icon. A progress tracker lives under Growth, then Activities, in the pause menu, but PowerPyx notes it only appears after you finish the main story and have collected at least one of each type, while weapons and armor are tracked separately in the Gear menu.

A few categories never appear on the map until you find them. PowerPyx lists the Nine Tails' Puzzle Boxes, Special Places, armor and the melee, ranged and quickfire weapons as unmarked, so those are the ones to look up rather than stumble into. Bounties only point you to a general search area, which is why they take longer than their count suggests.

The Collectibles That Make Atsu Stronger

Hot Springs are the best early investment. Each of the 16 raises your health; you sit for about a minute and choose a topic to reflect on, and the choice does not matter. One is easy to miss at the Red Crane Inn in Teshio Ridge, where the inn's map icon covers it: enter the bathhouse on the left, pay the attendant 200 coins and use the bucket. Bamboo Strikes are short button-sequence challenges that increase your total Spirit, the resource behind special attacks. Two come from the story, one is an unmarked broken strike at your home across from your father's forge, and another hides under the Huranui's Rest Inn icon in Tokachi Range.

Altars of Reflection are the skill engine. Each of the 61 grants a skill point for a new technique, and every one of the 22 Yotei Six Camps contains an altar that you spawn in front of after liberating the camp. Shrine Climbs take about three minutes each and start at torii gates; each shrine gives a charm, such as the Mother's Charm and Father's Charm at the Mount Yotei Shrine, and completing all 13 earns the Golden Mask. The Azure Wind Shrine is completed automatically during Main Tale: The Oni and cannot be revisited, but there is nothing else there to miss.

Fox Dens and Wolf Dens round out the upgrades. At a Fox Den you follow a small fox to an Inari shrine and pray, and each of the 11 dens gives a charm, for example the Charm of Uncanny Aim at the Lake View Fox Den. After all 11, travel to the Hunting Camp Hideout in northeast Teshio Ridge through the Sarufutsu Lighthouse, solve the fox statue door and collect the Fox Mask. Wolf Dens send you after a wolf to an enemy camp you must clear, and each completed den unlocks a Wolf skill, which is why our best skills guide treats them as a priority.

Learn the Shamisen Songs First

The eight Shamisen Songs are the closest thing Ghost of Yotei has to a collectible map. You play them by swiping left on the touchpad, and most of them send the guiding wind toward a specific type of collectible, so learning them early turns the rest of the hunt into following directions.

  • Atsu's Song: learned automatically during the prologue.
  • Song of Well-Being: from the Shamisen Practice spot on Ishikari Plain's northwest coast; leads to Hot Springs.
  • Song of Vanity: from the Shamisen Practice spot west of the Red Crane Inn in Teshio Ridge; leads to vanity gear.
  • Song of Revenge: from a ronin at the Musician's Camp north of Shizunai Woods in Tokachi Range, after you donate, build his campfire and play for him; leads to Yotei Six Camps.
  • Song of the Ainu: from finishing the side tales The Soul of an Instrument and A Melody of Thoughts; leads to Ainu Items.
  • Song of Spirit: from the side tale Master of the Shamisen in Yotei Grasslands; leads to Bamboo Strikes.
  • Song of the Wolf: learned automatically after any four Wolf Dens; leads to the remaining dens.
  • Song of Shrines: taught by a man who can randomly appear when you make camp.

Two more tools help. The Robes for Sitturaynu armor, earned from the side tale The Heart of an Ainu, spawns a golden bird that leads you toward nearby Shamisen Songs, and PowerPyx notes the upgraded robes also point toward Sumi-e and Pillars of the Fallen. In the accessibility settings, turn on Wind Gust Camera so the camera faces your marker, and since patch 1.100 you can also enable a visual indicator when gold birds, foxes or the wolf are leading you.

Puzzle Collectibles: Nine Tails Boxes and Mountain Reliquaries

All 12 Nine Tails' Puzzle Boxes are in Teshio Ridge, the snowy northern region. One sits with a dead enemy in Sakura Woods and is the easiest to overlook, four come from Kitsune Altars marked on the map, and seven come from Teshio Ridge's Yotei Six Camps, four of which are hidden hideouts behind fox statue puzzles. The box names follow pickup order rather than location, so the first one you grab is always the "Interesting Box" and the second is always the "Peculiar Box". You open them under Inventory, then Puzzle Boxes, by sliding their parts.

The five Mountain Reliquaries are stone pillars, one in each main region, each surrounded by four fox statues you spin to match a riddle carved on the pillar. The Reliquary of Courage in Yotei Grasslands, for example, wants all four foxes facing Mount Yotei to the west. Solving all five unlocks the fully upgraded Charm of Mount Yotei, which reduces all damage taken, along with Yotei's Shelter Hat, Yotei's Mercy Mask and the Yotei's Blessing weapon kit, which makes them one of the better rewards for a short detour.

Cosmetic Collectibles and Side Activities

The 18 Sumi-e paintings have you sit on a straw mat and trace an outline with the touchpad. The 15 open-world ones marked on the map count toward the trophy, while the three that happen during quests do not, and each open-world painting rewards a hat, headband or mask, such as the Headband of Yotei from the Mount Yotei Sumi-e. If tracing is not your thing, patch 1.100 added an option to skip Sumi-e minigames. Pillars of the Fallen hold 20 weapon kits that recolor your weapons from the Gear menu, and the 30 Ainu Items upgrade the Robes for Sitturaynu; wearing the robes makes a green firefly appear when one is nearby.

The rest are activities rather than pickups. The eight Zeni Hajiki tables are mostly in inn gambling dens: beat the opponent once for coins and again for a charm, and switch on the Zeni Hajiki Power Display accessibility option to see how far each flick will travel. The six Dueling Trees lead to the Takezo the Unrivaled mythic tale, with the last tree appearing only after you clear the first five. The 22 Yotei Six Camps could not be reset at launch, but patch 1.100 made all 22 replayable after you clear them once, along with 26 duels. Special Places are marked by a bowing sign; bow there to trigger an effect like insects or jumping fish.

What the Platinum Needs and What You Can Skip

You do not need everything for the platinum. PowerPyx's roadmap says you can skip the Ainu Items and Pillars of the Fallen entirely, you only need 30 of the 61 Altars of Reflection and 15 of the 18 Sumi-e, and you only need 10 Special Places even though more exist. Everything else counts: all Hot Springs, Bamboo Strikes, Shrine Climbs, Fox Dens, Wolf Dens, Shamisen Songs, Puzzle Boxes and Reliquaries, all 12 armor sets, every melee, ranged and quickfire weapon and all 22 Yotei Six Camps. The full trophy list is in our Ghost of Yotei trophy guide, and our how long to beat breakdown shows how much of a full run this cleanup takes.

If you own the Echoes of Sekigahara expansion, its Ashoro Foothills region adds new activities on top of the base game count, including more Altars of Reflection, Bamboo Strikes and four Viper Storehouses that you secure for one of that expansion's trophies. Planning a second run? Our New Game Plus guide explains how revisiting altars, duels and quests earns Ghost Flowers.

Want the Rewards Without the Map Sweep?

Most collectibles exist to feed your build with health, Spirit, charms, armor and resources. If you would rather have that loadout now, the store's Story Mode save comes with the single-player Story Mode fully completed and its economy set to infinite: unlimited money, ammo, flowers, plants, food and textiles, unlimited small bamboo, metals, shinobi steel and black powder, plus all masks, hats, armor, weapons and charms.

The product page lists its conditions plainly. It is a PS5 save, you must already own the game, PlayStation Plus is required on the same account being modded, and it covers single-player Story Mode only, with Legends and the Most Wanted DLC sold separately. You can compare it with the other saves on the Ghost of Yotei hub.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are any collectibles missable in Ghost of Yotei?

No. PowerPyx confirms nothing is missable: everything can still be found in free roam after the story ends, and the one shrine you cannot revisit, Azure Wind, is completed automatically during The Oni.

How do you track collectibles in Ghost of Yotei?

Open Growth, then Activities, in the pause menu. The tracker appears after you finish the main story and have found at least one of each type, and found items show as crossed-out map icons.

What do Hot Springs do in Ghost of Yotei?

Each Hot Spring increases Atsu's health. There are 16 of them, golden birds lead you to them, and the Song of Well-Being guides you to Hot Spring locations.

Do you need every Altar of Reflection for the platinum?

No. The Moments of Reflection trophy needs 30 of the 61 altars, although finding more gives you extra skill points for new techniques.

Where are the Nine Tails puzzle boxes?

All 12 are in Teshio Ridge: one in Sakura Woods, four at Kitsune Altars and seven inside that region's Yotei Six Camps, including four hidden hideouts behind fox statue puzzles.

How do you get the Golden Mask in Ghost of Yotei?

Complete all 13 Shrine Climbs. The Forgotten Shrine in Oshima Coast does not count, because it belongs to the Mythic Tale The Storm Blade.
