Ghost of Yotei Most Wanted: Hunters, Bounties and Unlocks

Most Wanted is the single-player roguelike survival mode that arrived in Ghost of Yotei on October 1, 2026, alongside the Echoes of Sekigahara expansion. You pick one of four hunters (Atsu, Oyuki, Nagato or Ghost of Tsushima's Jin Sakai), accept a bounty on a member of the Yotei Six, fight through waves of enemies and minibosses while drafting perks, then face the bounty target. It has no co-op, it comes with the Complete Edition or the Complete Edition Upgrade, and you can start it straight from the title screen without touching the story.

We checked this against the PlayStation Blog's Most Wanted reveal and Complete Edition posts, the official PlayStation.com page for the mode, PowerPyx's Most Wanted trophy roadmap, the Jin Sakai unlock guides from VGC and KeenGamer, Allthings.how's bounty breakdown and HowLongToBeat in November 2026.

What Most Wanted Is, and What It Is Not

Sucker Punch calls Most Wanted "a brand new single-player combat survival mode" and its own spin on a roguelike. Each bounty features one of the Yotei Six: you fight waves of enemies and minibosses, gain a perk after each wave, and finish against the bounty's boss. Bounties can be replayed at higher difficulty, and the hardest one is the hunt for Lord Saito.

It launched with patch v2.0 on October 1, 2026, a day later in some territories including Asia, Australia and New Zealand. New buyers get it in the digital Complete Edition, which Sony priced at $69.99 at launch, while existing owners add it through the Complete Edition Upgrade, priced at $14.99 at launch, which also includes Echoes of Sekigahara. Because it is single-player, it is a different thing entirely from Legends, the free online co-op mode, even though both reuse the Yotei Six as bosses.

Access is simple. PowerPyx notes that Most Wanted sits on the main title screen, so you do not need to have started the story or loaded a finished save. Anything cosmetic you earn there carries over: the official PlayStation page says cosmetics earned in Most Wanted are also unlocked in the main game.

The Four Hunters and Their Kits

Every hunter starts with a katana plus unique weapons, an Ultimate and a Kill Streak. The official PlayStation Blog reveal lists the kits:

  • Atsu (available from the start): dual katanas, Metsubushi blinding powder and a Blind Bomb. Her Ultimate, Call of the Pack, summons two wolves, and her Kill Streak, Onryō's Howl, terrifies nearby enemies and forces one to flee.
  • Oyuki: kusarigama, kunai and a tanegashima rifle. Her Ultimate, Shadow Killer, uses smoke to quickly assassinate two nearby enemies, and her Kill Streak, Shadow Shinobi, summons a Nine Tails ally for a limited time.
  • Nagato: yari, tanzutsu pistol, yumi and hankyu. His Ultimate, Gambler's Mark, targets two enemies for an automatic headshot, and his Kill Streak, Blast Arrow, refills Concentration and grants an explosive arrow.
  • Jin Sakai: a katana with all four of his original Ghost of Tsushima stances, a Sticky Bomb and a hankyu. His Ultimate is Dance of Wrath, which hits multiple enemies and disarms them, and his Kill Streak, Ghost Stance, terrifies nearby enemies and kills a limited number of them in one hit.

PowerPyx points out that the four hunters loosely map onto the Legends classes: Atsu plays like the Mercenary, Oyuki like the Shinobi, Nagato like the Archer and Jin like the Samurai. If you already know one of those classes from co-op, our Legends classes guide will tell you which hunter to aim for first.

Unlocking Oyuki, Nagato and Jin Sakai

You earn Mon during runs and spend it between runs on techniques, weapon upgrades and charms. You never buy a hunter directly. Instead, each new hunter unlocks once your lifetime Mon spending passes a threshold, and they arrive in a fixed order.

KeenGamer and Allthings.how both list the same thresholds: Oyuki at 3,500 Mon spent, Nagato at 10,200 and Jin Sakai at 28,800. VGC's guide gives a higher figure of 30,000 spent on techniques, weapons or shop items for Jin, so the exact threshold may differ slightly from what you see; either way, he is the last and most expensive unlock. The counter tracks spending rather than your balance, which means unspent Mon does nothing for unlocks, and purchases for any hunter, including Kill Streaks bought in the Techniques section, count toward the same total.

The quickest way to get there is to spend after every run and to push difficulty as soon as you can. Higher-level hunts pay more, bonus chests between combat rounds add extra Mon, and KeenGamer reports that the Spider bounty pays 2,350 Mon at maximum threat. If runs keep ending before the boss, drop a tier, buy the merchant's Meal before a hunt for a temporary boost, and favor sustain perks such as health restored on each kill.

How a Bounty Run Plays Out

The six bounties climb in difficulty in this order: the Spider, the Kitsune, the Oni, the Snake, the Dragon and finally Lord Saito, who only opens after you clear the other five. Allthings.how describes each run as six stages, with a miniboss at stage three and the bounty target as the final boss at stage six, while harder runs add archers, brutes and shield bearers to the waves. PowerPyx clocks a typical mission at 10 to 15 minutes.

Perks are the heart of the build. You get one perk at the start of a hunt and choose a new one after each wave, drawn from categories that the official page lists as weapon mastery, gear loadouts, summons, parries and survivability. Pressing Triangle rerolls all the options once per hunt, so save it for a moment when nothing fits. You also start with two sake jars, which upgrades or perks can raise to five; holding down on the D-pad uses one to refill Spirit, and Square throws it.

There are three difficulty settings, Casual, Medium and Lethal, and the mode has no manual saves, so each run must be finished in one sitting. The Saito bounty runs you past the rest of the Yotei Six in order amid normal waves, and PowerPyx notes that the final duel matches the one from the main story, so campaign veterans already know his patterns.

Max Threat, Boss Tokens and the Cosmetic Vendor

Once Lord Saito falls, each bounty gains a Max Threat version marked with five skulls, selected by pressing Triangle on the bounty screen. It adds more waves and more enemies, though your difficulty setting still decides how strong those enemies are, and it pays out more coins and boss tokens than a standard run. Boss tokens come from replaying bounties you have already cleared, and PowerPyx counts a minimum of five from a Max Threat Spider run.

Tokens buy cosmetics from the vendor. The cheapest item PowerPyx found is "The Spider's Armour" dye for the Onryo armor at two tokens, which makes Most Wanted a source of looks for Atsu's signature armor; our Onryo armor guide covers what that armor does. Sucker Punch also announced on September 29, 2026 that Helldivers, Astro Bot and Journey armor sets, plus a previously revealed The Last of Us outfit, unlock by playing Most Wanted from October 1 and can be worn in the base game.

Trophies and Time Investment

The Most Wanted list has 11 offline trophies, two silver and nine bronze, and sits in its own group outside the base game's platinum. PowerPyx rates it 3 out of 10 on Casual and estimates two to three hours, with Masterful Payout (defeat a Max Threat bounty target) as the hardest; it suggests the Spider as the shortest Max Threat run. Ultimate Vengeance asks you to beat Lord Saito on any difficulty, and the roadmap counts a minimum of seven runs.

Four trophies tie to specific hunters: Tooth and Nail (six kills with Atsu's summoned wolves), Call the 13 Assassins (summon 13 Shadow Shinobi as Oyuki), A Blasting Impression (damage 30 enemies with Nagato's explosive arrows) and The Seven Samurai (seven Ghost Stance kills as Jin). Others ask you to throw a sake jar at every Yotei Six member, trigger 10 lightning strikes in one hunt or set off 47 Bounty Perk effects against Marked enemies. PowerPyx's Echoes of Sekigahara roadmap adds that four of that expansion's trophies can also be earned here.

HowLongToBeat lists Most Wanted at about two hours for the main run and five for completionists, though only three players had submitted times in early November 2026. Our trophy guide covers the full list structure, and our how long to beat breakdown puts Most Wanted next to the campaign and the other add-ons.

If You Would Rather Skip Straight to Max Threat

Unlocking all four hunters and grinding boss tokens for every dye takes a lot of repeat runs. The store's Most Wanted DLC save hands you the finished state instead: its page lists all four hunters (Jin, Atsu, Oyuki and Nagato) at the max player level of Lv.5, every technique, combat skill and weapon skill, all charms with every upgrade, all weapon types at max level, all six boss bounties completed and replayable with the max threat level unlocked, every boss armor dye and all Sakai armor sets, all ammo capacity upgrades and 999,999 coins.

It is a PS5 save. You must already own both the game and the Most Wanted DLC on the account, and PlayStation Plus is required on the same account being modded. The other Ghost of Yotei saves are listed on the Ghost of Yotei hub.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Ghost of Yotei Most Wanted co-op?

No. Sony describes Most Wanted as a single-player combat survival mode. The online co-op mode is Legends, which is a separate, free part of the game.

Is Most Wanted free?

No. It is included in the Complete Edition, and existing owners get it, together with Echoes of Sekigahara, through the Complete Edition Upgrade, which launched at $14.99.

How do you unlock Jin Sakai in Most Wanted?

Spend Mon. Jin unlocks after Oyuki and Nagato, once your lifetime spending on techniques, weapons and shop items reaches 28,800 Mon according to KeenGamer and Allthings.how; VGC puts it at 30,000.

Do you need to finish the story to play Most Wanted?

No. The mode launches from the main title screen and needs no campaign progress, so you can play it on a brand-new save as long as the Complete Edition content is installed.

Do Most Wanted cosmetics carry over to the main game?

Yes. Sony's official page says any cosmetics you earn by playing Most Wanted are also unlocked in the main game.

How do you get boss tokens in Most Wanted?

Replay bounties you have already cleared. Max Threat versions, which open after you beat Lord Saito, give the most tokens, and the vendor trades them for cosmetics such as armor dyes.
