Enshrouded Eternal Spells: How to Get and Upgrade Them

Enshrouded YouTube thumbnail: Get These 4 SUPER CHARGED ETERNAL SPELLS | Enshrouded

Eternal spells in Enshrouded are spell versions that never use up charges: you cast them with mana alone, forever. Your first one comes from an early quest called An Eternal Spell, which rewards a weaker Eternal Ice Bolt, and the rest are crafted at the Alchemist and his stations. Since the 1.0 release on 15 October 2026, every spell in the game has an eternal version, and eternal spells can be upgraded with perks just like weapons.

We checked this against Keen Games' 1.0 combat preview and full 1.0 changelog, Patch 12 and Patch 1.0.1.0, the Forging the Path notes, and the Enshrouded Wiki's Spells and Skills pages in November 2026.

What Makes a Spell Eternal

Regular spells in Enshrouded are ammunition. You craft or loot a stack of charges, slot them into a staff, and every cast uses one. Eternal spells remove that limit. Keen's combat preview from September 2026 describes them simply as the versions that do not consume spell ammo to be cast, and the 1.0 changelog jokes that you will never again realize you are out of charges at the worst possible moment.

1.0 made eternal spells a full system rather than a few late-game rewards. The changelog says all spells now have an eternal version, many of which unlock in the current highest progression tier, and the combat preview counted 22 tier 7 spell versions that are the eternal form of a spell. At the same time Keen added 9 new spell types, including Mana Drain, Entangle, Pillar of Flames, Blizzard, Ball Lightning, three elemental totems and Summon Hollow Skeleton.

  • Charges are still useful. Patch 12 unified the stack size for all spells at 500, so carrying regular charges for niche spells is cheap in backpack space.
  • Found versus crafted. 1.0 redesigned which charges you find and which you craft: versatile everyday spells drop as loot, and unusual spells for specific purposes are craft-only.
  • Cheaper charges. The same update removed several rare resources from spell charge recipes and reduced the ectoplasm needed for spells and arrows.

Your First Eternal Spell

The wiki's Spells page names one quest in connection with eternal spells: An Eternal Spell, which rewards a weaker version of the Eternal Ice Bolt. It is the first time most players can stop counting charges, which makes an ice staff a reliable backup weapon for every class, not just mages. The craftable Eternal Ice Bolt I on the wiki is a level 5 spell made at the Alchemist from 5 Shroud Wood and 10 Salt, so even the crafted version arrives early.

A second quest line sits in the Veilwater Basin. Keen's 1.0 changelog says the eternal spell quest in the Veilwater Basin was updated for additional eternal spells, and back in Forging the Path the studio fixed the name of the Eternal Ice Bolt II item. Guides disagree on the exact steps of that Veilwater quest after the update, so follow the quest marker in your journal rather than an older walkthrough.

Once you have one eternal spell, the practical question is mana. Eternal spells trade charges for mana cost, and 1.0 reworked spell mana costs and casting times so that bigger spells take longer to cast. That makes mana regeneration, Spirit and mana-restoring skills more important than they were when you could spam cheap charges.

Crafting Eternal Spells

Almost every eternal spell on the wiki is crafted at the Alchemist, combined with a station: usually the Mortar or the Alchemy Station for early spells and the Laboratory for most later ones. Bone spells are the exception and come from the Collector. Recipes follow a few patterns that are useful to know before you start saving materials.

  • Some recipes eat regular charges. The wiki lists Eternal Chain Lightning I as 8 Glow Dust plus 40 Chain Lightning I charges, Eternal Fireball III as needing 20 Fireball IV charges, and Eternal Bonestorm I as consuming 200 Bonestorm V. Keep a stack of the regular spell before you craft its eternal form.
  • Biome materials matter. Eternal Fireball I needs 25 Amber, Eternal Blizzard I needs Ice, Snow and Enshrouded Ice, and Eternal Shock Wisp II uses an Electric Nerve. Our amber location guide shows where to mine the first of those.
  • Fish turn up too. Fish Scales appear in Eternal Fireball III, Eternal Fire Totem II and Eternal Entangle, and Eternal Acid Bite II wants a Fish Poison Gland. Our Enshrouded fishing guide explains how to target the right catch.
  • Endgame means Cinder's Cradle. Most level 45 eternal spells call for Celestium Bars, Sparkling Dust, Diamond Dust, Magma Gel or Archaic Infusion.

Upgrading Eternal Spells and Arrows

The other big 1.0 change is that eternal spells, and eternal arrows, can now be upgraded just like weapons and other equipment. Keen's combat preview says the upgrades come with unique new perks, and gives reduced mana cost as an example. The changelog adds that the crafting survivors for the different combat classes now offer upgrade services for eternal spells and eternal arrows.

In practice, that means the Alchemist handles your eternal spells, because Forging the Path already made him responsible for mage upgrades, while the Huntress looks after ranger gear and the Blacksmith after warrior gear. A mage who used to pour every upgrade into a staff now has a handful of spells competing for the same attention. Pick two or three eternal spells you will actually use and upgrade those, rather than spreading your materials thin.

Rangers got the same treatment. The combat preview announced three new eternal arrows, fire, shock and bone, and the changelog lists new eternal ember and voltaic arrows at various tiers. They are upgradeable with perks as well, which makes a bow far less dependent on crafting arrow bundles.

Keeping Your Mana Up

Swapping charges for mana moves the bottleneck. With a full set of eternal spells, the question is no longer whether you packed enough ammunition but whether your mana bar survives a long fight. The game gives you several levers, and the wiki's Attributes and Skills pages list the numbers behind them:

  • Spirit. Each point adds 20 maximum mana. Spirit nodes appear in the Wizard, Healer and Trickster areas of the skill tree.
  • Intelligence. Each point adds 5% magic damage, so you need fewer casts per kill.
  • Unity. Wand hits have a 24% chance to restore 4% mana, a good reason to weave wand attacks between staff casts.
  • Arcane Deflection. A successful parry grants 20 mana.
  • Mana Drain. One of the new 1.0 spells, it saps a fixed amount of mana per second from an enemy and adds it to your pool.

Food is the other half. Keen's own tips article notes that food can boost mana and its regeneration, so a mage should always carry a meal that targets mana. And note the 1.0 leech rebalance: percentage-based mana leech perks were toned down in the early game and reserved for specific late-game weapons and gear, so do not count on leech alone to fund big eternal spells early on.

Which Eternal Spells to Prioritize

Your build decides the order, but a few picks stand out for most mages and hybrid players:

  • Healers: Eternal Chain Heal I is available from level 15 on the wiki and keeps a group alive without charge management. Pair it with the Healer skills that let healing spells critically strike.
  • Damage dealers: an eternal fire or shock spell early, then the new area spells Blizzard and Ball Lightning for groups once you reach the late game. The combat preview describes both as answers to groups of enemies.
  • Summoners: Eternal Hollow Wretch and the eternal totems. The wiki lists set durations of 80 and 120 seconds for the two Hollow Wretch tiers, and the skills Advanced Necromancy and Totem Mastery raise how many summons you can keep. 1.0 also enforces a maximum number of player-spawned creatures; casting more replaces the oldest.
  • Careful with Shroud spells: the wiki says eternal Shroud spells apply Shroud Fatigue, which cuts your time in the Shroud by 4 minutes. That is a heavy price on a dive.

Skills multiply all of this. The combat preview introduced Blast and Cast, which raises the base damage of your next staff attack by 50% within 10 seconds after a wand critical hit, and the wiki lists Quick Charge for 50% faster staff charging. Our guide to Enshrouded builds puts those skills together into complete mage, healer and summoner setups, and our Enshrouded gems guide covers the weapon gems, such as Storm's Eye and Focused Light, that suit casters.

A Full Arsenal for Your Mage

Eternal spells live in staffs, and a good wand covers you while you charge them. If you would rather not farm chests for every weapon type, the store's all legendary weapons package for PC includes legendary wands and staffs together with swords, axes, hammers and bows, plus a set of shields as a bonus. Our legendary weapons guide explains how to upgrade them once you have them.

Note the platform: this bundle is delivered on PC only. Console players should look at the modded save instead, which the Enshrouded services page lists along with everything else.
