Account connections let you link outside services such as Xbox, PlayStation Network, Steam, Spotify, YouTube or Twitch to your Discord profile, so friends can see your gamertag or what you are playing and listening to. You add them under User Settings, then Connections, choose each one's visibility with the Display on profile toggle, and remove them yourself with the X icon, because Discord's support team cannot remove a connection for you. Below is the full list of services, how each piece of visibility works, and what changes when you unlink.
We checked the details here against Discord's Account Connections FAQ, its Connections and Linked Roles article, the Xbox, PlayStation Network, Spotify, Roblox and Bluesky connection articles, and Discord's developer documentation for the connection object, in November 2026.
What Connections Actually Do
A connection is a verified link between your Discord account and an account on another service. Discord says it shows the connected accounts on your profile and can share what you are playing, listening to or watching with your communities. Because linking requires signing in to the other service, a connection also works as light proof that the person you are talking to really owns that gamertag or channel.

Depending on the service, a connection can do much more than display a logo:
- Game activity. Xbox and PlayStation connections can show the game you are playing on console as your Discord activity.
- Console voice. Linking Xbox lets you use Discord voice chat on an Xbox console, and the PlayStation link enables Discord voice on PS5.
- Listen along. With Spotify connected, friends can join what you are playing, though Discord notes they need Spotify Premium to listen along.
- Linked roles. Some servers gate channels behind roles that require a particular connection, such as a Steam account.
- Connection details. For supported services like Steam, Discord can pull extra public details to show on your profile.
Which Services You Can Connect
Discord's developer documentation lists the services a user connection can come from. As of November 2026 the list covers Amazon Music, Bungie.net, Bluesky, Crunchyroll, Domain, eBay, Epic Games, Facebook, GitHub, Mastodon, PayPal, PlayStation Network, Reddit, Roblox, Spotify, Steam, TikTok, Twitch, X (Twitter), Xbox and YouTube. Two older entries, Instagram and Skype, appear with a note that users can no longer add them.
The Connections page in the app shows the most popular options first, and you reach the rest through the View More icon. Discord's Linked Roles FAQ says you can connect as many third-party accounts as you want, and that Nitro has no effect on your ability to add connections or connection details.
Developers can also build apps with connection capabilities, which is how some servers verify things the built-in list does not cover. Discord's article names examples such as Bloxlink, Jefit, DeviantArt, Charlemagne, Solana and Captcha.bot. Those app connections are added through a server's Linked Roles menu rather than the Connections tab.
How to Add a Connection
On desktop or in a browser, open User Settings with the gear icon, select the Connections tab and press the icon of the service you want; use View More to see everything. You are sent to that service's sign-in page. After you approve access, Discord shows a "Connected your [service] account to Discord" confirmation.

On mobile, tap your avatar in the bottom right, tap the gear icon, choose Connections and press Add in the top right corner, then pick the service. Discord says the PlayStation Network connection can be added from every platform it runs on, including Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android and the web app.
Some services add their own steps. The Roblox flow asks you to confirm which Roblox account you are linking and then press Confirm and Give Access. The Bluesky connection asks for your handle, and if Discord cannot find it you see an error suggesting you check the handle; Discord says that usually means a typo, though custom domains need a reachable verification file too. The authorization screen for each service lists exactly what information Discord will collect from it, so read it before approving.
Controlling What Other People See
Every connection has its own visibility switches in the Connections tab. The Display on profile toggle controls whether the connection appears on your profile at all. Services with connection details also offer a Display details on profile toggle. Turning that one off hides the personal details while still letting server members see that you verified the connection.
Spotify and the console services add an activity layer on top. Spotify has a separate Display Spotify as your status toggle, and Xbox and PlayStation let you choose whether to show console activity as your status. If you want to stay connected but stop broadcasting what you play, those are the switches to change, and our guide to hiding game activity on Discord covers the wider activity privacy settings.
Discord can only see information that is public on the other service. Its FAQ uses Steam as the example: if you want game data to show, your Steam profile itself must be public. Discord also refreshes connection details automatically on a schedule, and you can force an update with the Refresh button in the Connections tab.
Teen accounts start with tighter defaults. Discord's teen protections limit profile details and activity to friends and small servers under 200 members, and our guide to how Discord sets age groups explains why some adults see those defaults too. Parents who want a window into a teen's Discord use should look at Family Center rather than connections, which our guide to Discord for kids and teens walks through.
Xbox and PlayStation Connections in Detail
The console links are the most popular, and each has a few rules worth knowing. For Xbox, Discord supports one linked Xbox account per Discord account at a time; to switch, remove the current link first. Connecting lets you display your gamertag, your Xbox game activity and how long you have been playing, and use Discord voice chat on the console, which needs the console updated to the latest version. Discord also notes that eligible Xbox Game Pass subscribers get access to three Nitro perks at no extra cost.
For PlayStation, a linked account shows the game you are playing on PS4 or PS5 as your activity, and you can choose to display your PlayStation Network Online ID so friends can add you. Discord's article says that if you did not take part in the PS5 beta for Discord voice, you need to relink your accounts to use Discord voice chat on PS5, and the console must be on the latest system software. Both console links also matter for console Quests, which our Discord Quests guide covers.
Linked Roles, Removal and What Happens to Your Data
Servers can require a linked role before you enter certain channels. An admin might require, for example, a social account older than a set number of days. To qualify, open the server menu, choose Linked Roles and verify the required connection. On mobile you can view and add connections, but Discord says you must be on desktop once to opt into a gated role.
Removing a connection is done in the Connections tab with the X icon, followed by Disconnect. Discord's FAQ says removal revokes its access to that account going forward and permanently deletes the information it collected from its records. It also means losing any linked role that depended on the connection. Connections do not follow you between accounts in the Account Switcher, so each account needs its own.
Discord adds one anti-fraud rule: after a connection is used on one Discord account, it can only be added to another Discord account after a certain period, which stops one social account from verifying a crowd of fake profiles. Discord also shows account details such as account age and time in a server on profiles next to connection details, and it suggests using them together to judge whether a profile belongs to someone invested in it or is a throwaway. When a stranger claims to be a well-known streamer or player, a verified Twitch or YouTube connection plus an old account is a far better sign than a matching display name. If a connection still shows on your profile after you think you removed it, sign in to that account and remove it again, since support cannot do it for you. Connections live only in this tab, separate from your login details; our guide to updating your Discord email covers the login side, and if you plan to rebrand, our username change guide explains the weekly limit.
Connected Accounts and Account Listings
Linked gamertags and channels are a big part of how people judge whether a profile is real, and some buyers look for aged Discord accounts for the same reason. The store's Discord hub carries account listings from outside sellers that change daily. Discord's Terms of Service state that users agree not to sell, license, lend or transfer an account or username without Discord's prior written approval, so check those terms before acting.
Connections themselves are personal. They are tied to the external accounts you sign in with, and Discord limits how soon one external account can be attached to a different Discord account.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I remove a connection from my Discord account?
Open User Settings, then Connections, press the X on the connection and confirm with Disconnect. Discord support cannot remove connections for you, so you need to be logged in.
Can I connect two Xbox accounts to Discord?
No. Each Discord account supports one linked Xbox account at a time. Remove the current one before connecting a different account.
Why can't I connect Instagram to Discord?
Discord's developer documentation marks Instagram, along with Skype, as a service users can no longer add, and its Linked Roles FAQ says the Instagram connection was removed because of a lack of API support.
How do I hide my connections on Discord?
In the Connections tab, turn off Display on profile for each connection you want hidden. To keep it visible but hide the details, turn off Display details on profile instead.
Does Discord sell my connection data?
Discord's Linked Roles FAQ answers this directly with no, and says connection data is stored to display on your profile and verify you for server roles, not shared with third parties without your permission.
Why is my Steam game data not showing on Discord?
Discord can only read what is public. Make your Steam profile public, reconnect if needed, and use the Refresh button in the Connections tab.
