How to Hide Game Activity on Discord: Every Setting

Discord YouTube thumbnail: How To Hide Game Activity On Discord - Step By Step

To hide your game activity on Discord, open User Settings, go to the activity privacy page and switch off Share my activity, which stops others from seeing what you are playing anywhere on Discord. If you only want to hide it from certain servers or certain games, there is a per-server Activity Status toggle and a per-game detection switch under Registered Games, plus separate switches for consoles and connected apps such as Spotify. Below is every control as of November 2026, exactly what each one hides, and the profile features that can still give your games away.

We checked every menu against Discord's Help Center articles on activity sharing, the members list activity feature, profile privacy, recently played games, profile widgets, custom status, online status, badges and the PlayStation Network connection, in November 2026.

The Master Switch: Stop Sharing Everything

The global setting is the one that does the most with a single click. Discord's activity help article describes it as controlling whether any activity of any kind is shown to others, friends included, and that covers detectable games on your computer, games on Xbox or PlayStation, Spotify, Crunchyroll and Discord Activities.

  1. Open User Settings with the cogwheel next to your username.
  2. Open the activity privacy page. Discord's own help article calls it Activity Privacy in one place and Activity Sharing in another, so look for either name.
  3. Switch off Share my activity.

The same page sets your default for servers you join later. Discord offers three options: Friends & All Servers, Friends & Small Servers Only (servers with 200 or fewer members), or Friends Only. Accounts in the teen age group start on Friends & Small Servers, while adult and unconfirmed accounts start on Friends & All Servers. In some countries and situations, Discord notes, sharing may already be off by default, so check rather than assume.

A My Servers list on that page also lets you flip sharing on or off server by server without leaving settings, which is quicker than visiting each server when you belong to dozens.

Hiding Activity From One Server

Sometimes you are happy for friends to see your games but not a large public server, a work community or a school group. For that, use the server's own privacy menu:

  1. Right-click the server name, or open the dropdown next to it.
  2. Select Privacy Settings.
  3. Turn off the Activity Status toggle.

Know the limits before relying on it. Discord's help article says members of that server can still see your activity if they are your friends, or if they share another server with you where your activity is allowed. You will also keep seeing your own status on your screen unless you have turned sharing off globally. One more wrinkle: Discord is testing activity cards in some servers' member lists, and its article says those cards follow your global, connection and per-game controls rather than the server-specific toggle.

Hiding a Single Game and Clearing History

If the issue is one particular game, the per-game control is the most precise tool. Discord keeps a list of the games it has detected on your computer, called Registered Games, and each entry has an eye icon (labeled Toggle Detection in some versions) that stops that title from appearing as your activity.

Discord's current activity article places Registered Games under the Games & Apps area of User Settings, while another of its help pages lists it under Activity Settings, so check both places if you do not spot it. Either way, disabling detection for a game only works going forward, and sharing still depends on the global switch being on in the first place.

Past sessions are handled separately. Your profile shows recent activity from the last 30 days, and you can remove a game from it:

  1. Click your profile in the lower-left corner, then select your avatar to open the full profile.
  2. Choose the Activity section.
  3. Click the three-dot menu beside the activity and pick Clear Game History.
  4. Confirm with Clear.

Consoles, Spotify and Other Connections

Activity from linked accounts follows its own switches. In User Settings under your connections, each account that supports activity or Rich Presence has a toggle to share it, and Discord's help pages describe the option as Display as your status for services such as Xbox, PlayStation, Spotify and Crunchyroll. Each connection can be turned off individually, and none of them share anything if the global switch is off.

PlayStation has a quirk worth knowing. Once linked, the Connections tab shows Display on User Profile, which shows your PlayStation Network online ID, and Display PlayStation Network as your status, which shows the PS4 or PS5 game you are playing. Turning off the second one hides your console games while leaving your ID visible. Discord also notes that anything you do locally on your computer takes priority over the console status, and that Rich Presence beats basic presence, so a Spotify session or a PC game can mask your PlayStation activity even when it is enabled.

There is a tradeoff for Quest hunters. Discord's PlayStation article says Quests played on PlayStation need your PSN privacy set so that Anyone can see your online status and what you are playing, so locking that down on the console side can stop those Quests from tracking. Our Discord Quests and Orbs guide covers what those rewards are worth before you decide.

Which Setting Fits Your Situation

With this many switches it is easy to change the wrong one, so match the control to what you actually want:

  • Nobody should see anything you play: turn off Share my activity. Discord says per-game and per-connection sharing only work while the global setting is on, so this one switch covers them.
  • Friends are fine, big public servers are not: keep sharing on but set the default to Friends & Small Servers Only or Friends Only, then use My Servers for any exceptions.
  • One game you would rather keep quiet: switch off its detection in Registered Games, then clear it from your profile's Activity history so the last 30 days do not give it away.
  • Console sessions only: turn off the status toggle on your PlayStation or Xbox connection and leave PC sharing alone.
  • You would rather look offline altogether: set your status to Invisible, which makes you appear offline while you keep chatting.

What These Settings Do Not Hide

Several profile features reveal games without counting as activity, which is why people switch sharing off and still get asked about what they played last night:

  • Custom status. Discord's article says a custom status overrides your activity in member lists and friends lists, but your activity still shows on your full profile. It is a cover, not a lock.
  • Profile widgets. Favorite Game, Currently Playing (up to 5 games), Want to Play and Games I've Played (up to 20 each) are lists you fill in by hand, so they do not update from activity and do not disappear when you hide it. Use the menu on each widget in your Profile Board and choose Remove Widget if you want no games on your profile.
  • Recently Played Games. This experimental profile section shows recent games with time played and how long ago; Discord says entries stay for a month and that you can switch the feature off in the Profiles settings.
  • Game badges. The Game Time and Game Variety badges count games detected by the desktop app, and only make progress when Use data to personalize my Discord experience is on. Badges can be hidden or reordered from your Badge Directory, and our badges guide explains each one.
  • Notifications to friends. Discord is testing game activity notifications on desktop; turning those off happens under Notifications, while stopping the sharing itself happens in the activity settings.

Going Further With Profile Privacy

If you want a quieter presence overall, two more controls help. Invisible status, picked from the status menu on your avatar, makes you appear offline entirely while you keep using Discord normally. Profile Privacy, under User Settings and then Data & Privacy, limits your full profile to Friends & All Servers, Friends & Small Servers Only or Friends Only. When it is restricted, people outside that group lose sight of your custom status, pronouns, badges, connected accounts, bio, widgets and wishlists.

A few things stay visible even on a private profile: your avatar, banner, display name, username, account age, mutual friends and servers, and your Server Tag. That last one is worth remembering, because a community tag beside your name tells people where you hang out; our Server Tags explainer covers how to remove or change it. Discord also prompts you to match your activity sharing whenever you change Profile Privacy, so you can tighten both in one step.

Finally, check who can jump into your sessions. With activity shared in a game that supports Rich Presence, Allow friends to join my game and Allow voice channel participants to join my game decide who gets a join option, and the second only works in non-Community servers. If your profile is the thing you would rather people noticed, our avatar decorations guide covers the cosmetic side.

When the Profile Itself Should Do the Talking

Keeping your games private does not mean keeping a forgettable profile. If you would rather people notice a short handle or a long-standing account than what you played last night, the store's Discord hub lists account offers including 3 and 4 letter usernames, OG names, Early Supporter and verified badges, Nitro, and legacy 2015 and 2016 accounts. Filters narrow the grid by each of those tags, and every listing describes its username type, badges, Nitro status and delivery notes.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I hide what game I am playing on Discord?

Switch off Share my activity on the activity privacy page of User Settings to hide everything, or disable detection for just that title in Registered Games using its eye icon.

Can I hide my activity from one server only?

Yes. Open the server's dropdown, choose Privacy Settings and turn off Activity Status. Friends in that server, and people who share another server where sharing is on, can still see it.

Does invisible status hide my game activity?

Invisible makes you appear offline entirely while you keep using Discord. Discord's activity help pages treat Share my activity and the per-server toggle as the controls for activity, so use those if your goal is hiding games rather than looking offline.

How do I stop Spotify showing on my Discord status?

Open your connections in User Settings and switch off the status display toggle on the Spotify connection. The same approach works for Xbox, PlayStation and Crunchyroll.

How do I clear my recently played games on Discord?

Open your full profile, go to the Activity section, use the three-dot menu on a game and choose Clear Game History. The Recently Played Games profile section, where available, can be switched off in Profiles settings.

Does a custom status hide my game?

Only partly. A custom status replaces your activity in member lists and friends lists, but anyone opening your full profile can still see what you are playing.
