Fast travel in Crimson Desert works through two kinds of Abyss points: the Abyss Nexus, which you activate by standing in its circle, and the Abyss Cresset, which you earn by solving a puzzle. Once a point is active you can open the map, select it and teleport there from almost anywhere, and since patch 1.03.00 that includes while mounted, falling, swimming or climbing. This guide explains how to find and unlock both types, what blocks a teleport, and how patches since launch have changed the system.
We checked this against Pearl Abyss's official patch notes for versions 1.01.00 through 1.05.00, the VGC and Game8 fast travel guides, and PowerPyx's trophy roadmap in November 2026.
How the Fast Travel Network Works
Pywel does not hand you a teleport every time you reach a new town. Travel points are fixed objects in the world, and nothing unlocks just because you rode past it. VGC's guide sums it up well: fast travel is available early in the game, but each point has to be found and switched on by hand, and some are much harder to reach than others.

To use the network, open the map and switch to the "All" tab. Game8 notes that unlocked points do not appear on the Quest or Faction tabs, which is the most common reason players think their teleports have vanished. Hover over an active Abyss Nexus or Abyss Cresset and confirm, and the game loads you there. If you are viewing a different region, use the regional dropdown on the map sidebar to swap maps first.
There are two point types, and they behave differently:
- Abyss Nexus. A simple altar with a circle on the ground. Step into the centre and, once the circle glows blue, it is active.
- Abyss Cresset. Usually found in or near Ancient Ruins and tied to an environmental puzzle. Game8 describes taking the Abyss Artifact the Cresset offers, which starts the puzzle; solving it unlocks the point.
Finding Abyss Nexus Points
The best hint the game gives you is the "Mysterious Energy" marker. When you pass close to an undiscovered travel point, the map flags a large question mark labelled Mysterious Energy. Both VGC and Game8 say that marker means a Nexus or Cresset is nearby, and Game8 adds that the two often sit close together, so finding one usually means the other is within a short walk.
A practical routine for each new region looks like this:
- Ride into the region and keep the map's All tab handy.
- Head for every Mysterious Energy question mark that appears as you explore.
- Look for the altar circle first, since a Nexus only takes a few seconds to switch on.
- Note any Cresset puzzle you cannot solve yet and come back once you have the tools or abilities it needs.
Pearl Abyss also made Nexus points easier to spot in patch 1.03.00, and added an extra Nexus in Pailune in patch 1.02.00, so players who struggled to find them in the launch week have a slightly easier time now. One Nexus near Zargan Tankworks, where the Research Institute is located, was moved to the top of the cliff in patch 1.05.00; if you activated it before the move, it stays active.
Abyss Cressets and Their Puzzles
Cressets ask more of you than a Nexus, but they pay you twice. VGC points out that Cressets contain upgrade items for Kliff, so they are worth clearing even in areas where you already have a nearby teleport. Treat them as a second reward track rather than a chore you do only for the teleport.

A few habits make Cresset puzzles less frustrating:
- Clear any enemies around the ruin before you start, so you can study the puzzle without being pulled into a fight halfway through.
- If a puzzle seems impossible, check whether it depends on an ability you do not have yet. Our guide to every Crimson Desert chapter shows roughly where the main story hands out new tools.
- Patch 1.13.00 let Oongka complete puzzles with Scatter Shot and let Oongka and Damiane enter the Abyss, so switching characters is a valid answer to some puzzles now.
The Abyss itself, the network of sky islands above Pywel, also has its own travel. Since patch 1.01.00 you can teleport to restored Abyss Skybridge Gates, and patch 1.05.00 improved the Abyss map so it shows teleport paths more clearly.
What Patches Changed About Teleporting
At launch, using a Nexus had strict conditions, and a lot of early advice online reflects that version of the game. Pearl Abyss loosened the rules in several steps:
- Patch 1.01.00 (March 28, 2026). Reduced loading times for fast travel and revival.
- Patch 1.02.00 (April 4, 2026). Allowed Nexus use while moving slightly, except in situations such as being mounted or using Flight, and added the extra Pailune Nexus.
- Patch 1.03.00 (April 11, 2026). Allowed teleporting via the Abyss Nexus while mounted, falling, swimming or climbing walls.
Because of those changes, guides that tell you to stand perfectly still or dismount before teleporting are describing the launch build. Game8's page, last updated in May, still says to dismount first, while the official 1.03.00 notes say mounted teleporting works. If the option is greyed out on your mount for some other reason, dismounting is a quick fallback, but you should not need it in most situations as of November 2026.
When You Cannot Fast Travel
A few situations still lock the network, and each one has a reason that makes sense once you know it:
- Carrying an outlaw. You cannot teleport while carrying a captured outlaw, whether on your shoulder or on horseback. The Nexus shows as unavailable until you put them down.
- Abandoning a bounty. If you capture an outlaw and then teleport elsewhere, the bounty fails and you have to go back to where the outlaw is to restart it.
- Undiscovered or half-unlocked points. Game8 notes that where a Nexus and a Cresset share a location, both need to be unlocked before that spot works as a destination.
Bounties are the one that catches people out, because riding an outlaw back to a constabulary is slow. Plan bounty routes so you can deliver on horseback without needing a teleport partway through.
Getting Around Beyond the Network
The teleport network gets you between fixed points, but mounts cover everything in between, and several of them change how you think about travel. The Blackstar Dragon unlocks at the end of Chapter 11; mein-mmo's mount guide lists a 15-minute ride window followed by a 50-minute cooldown. Patch 1.10.00 added the Wyvern as a mount, raised from a Baby Wyvern you feed until it grows. Both fly, which turns long detours around mountains into straight lines. Our guide to Crimson Desert legendary mounts covers how to earn the flying and legendary options.
Charting the Unknown added ships as a new mount type in patch 2.04.00, which makes the coast and the new islands reachable in a way the land network never covered. Our Crimson Desert DLC guide explains which quest gives you your first ship. If you spend time on the water, our Crimson Desert fishing guide lists the rivers and coasts worth teleporting to, including the legendary fish spots.
Clearing the Map So You Can See More Points
Fog on the map hides Mysterious Energy markers, so revealing the map early pays off. PowerPyx's trophy roadmap recommends activating the 8 Hidden Bells, noting that the Pailune Bell needs story progress, together with fast travel points to unfog the map before you commit to long collectible routes. That roadmap also suggests buying the Logging Axe and Pickaxe from the Provisioner's Shop in Hernand early, which helps with the materials you collect along the way.
Exploration also feeds the challenge list, which is worth knowing before you start sweeping. PowerPyx's roadmap tells completionists to find all 141 Sealed Abyss Artifacts first, because challenge progress only counts once the relevant challenge has been unlocked. The Abyss challenges alone number 40 and lead to the Conqueror of the Abysses gold trophy, and the exploration challenges, spread over nine subcategories, lead to Expert Explorer. Activating travel points as you go is the cheapest way to make the return trips those lists demand.
Once a region is unfogged, sweep it in one trip: activate the Nexus points, note the Cressets you cannot solve yet, and move on. Coming back later with the right abilities is faster than forcing a puzzle you are not equipped for.
Unlocking the Whole Network at Once
Hunting down every Nexus and Cresset is a big part of a completionist run. If you would rather have the map ready and keep the story for yourself, the store's Crimson Desert Unlock Bundle reveals the entire world map, including icons and hidden spots, unlocks the full Knowledge codex and activates all teleports and fast travel points. Quests are not auto-finished, so you keep your narrative progression, and the page lists a typical turnaround of about 5 to 30 minutes once a session starts. It asks you to confirm your platform in the checkout notes.
The rest of the store's options, including mounts and full unlock packs, are on the Crimson Desert services hub.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you unlock fast travel in Crimson Desert?
Activate Abyss Nexus points by standing in their circle until it glows blue, and unlock Abyss Cressets by solving their puzzles. Active points then appear on the map's All tab.
Can you fast travel while on a horse?
Yes. Patch 1.03.00 allowed teleporting through the Abyss Nexus while mounted, falling, swimming or climbing walls. Older guides that say to dismount describe the launch version.
Why can't I see my fast travel points on the map?
Switch to the All or Environment tab. Travel points do not show on the Quest or Faction tabs.
What does Mysterious Energy mean on the map?
It marks an area with an undiscovered Abyss Nexus or Abyss Cresset nearby. Explore around the question mark to find the altar or the puzzle.
Why can't I fast travel with an outlaw?
The game blocks teleporting while you carry a captured outlaw, and teleporting away after a capture fails the bounty. Deliver them on horseback instead.
Can you fast travel to the Abyss sky islands?
Yes. Restored Abyss Skybridge Gates became valid teleport destinations in patch 1.01.00, and the Abyss map has shown teleport paths more clearly since patch 1.05.00.
