The first Crimson Desert DLC, Charting the Unknown, released on October 29, 2026 at 22:00 UTC (3 PM Pacific), after Pearl Abyss pushed it back two weeks from its original mid-October slot. Players in Korea and Japan got it at 7 AM local time on October 30, and as of November 2026 it is live on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and the Epic Games Store, with the Mac App Store version following later. Below is what it costs, what it adds and exactly which quests open each part of it.

We checked every date and feature in this post against Pearl Abyss's official Crimson Desert news notices, the 2.04.00 patch notes, the PlayStation Store and Steam listings, and the Game8 and games.gg DLC guides in November 2026.

When Charting the Unknown Released

Pearl Abyss opened pre-orders on September 3, 2026, with an October launch in mind. On September 30 the studio posted a release date update moving the expansion back "by 2 weeks" so the team had additional development time for a more polished and stable experience. The new launch time was set at October 29, 22:00 UTC, which works out to 15:00 PT and 18:00 ET in North America and 23:00 CEST in central Europe. Asia received it on the morning of October 30.

The launch went ahead on schedule. Pearl Abyss published its "Charting the Unknown is Now Available" notice the same day, alongside patch 2.04.00, the free game update that carries the DLC's systems. If you are reading older articles that still say October 15, they were written before the delay announcement and are out of date.

One regional exception is worth knowing. On October 30 Pearl Abyss posted a separate market availability notice for Saudi Arabia: the expansion had passed the local regulator's review, but sales on digital storefronts there were still being prepared, with no date given at the time. Elsewhere the release was simultaneous across consoles and PC storefronts.

Price, Platforms and What You Need to Own

On the US PlayStation Store the expansion is listed as Crimson Desert Enhanced: Charting the Unknown at $24.99, with PS5 Pro Enhanced support. Game8's DLC guide lists the same $24.99 price on Xbox Series X|S, Steam and Epic. Regional prices differ; the Canadian Steam page, for example, shows the price in Canadian dollars rather than a converted US figure.

The DLC requires the base game. On Steam it is listed as requiring Crimson Desert Enhanced, which is simply the current version of the game. Enhanced is not a separate purchase: it arrived as free patch 2.00.00 on August 25, 2026, adding new cutscenes and story moments, five new voice languages (German, French, Spanish, Japanese and Brazilian Portuguese) and Arabic subtitles and interface text. Anyone who owns Crimson Desert and has updated already has it.

Pre-ordering came with a small bonus: the Charter's Diving Set for Kliff and Oongka and the Charter's Light Diving Set for Damiane. Those outfits tie directly into the new underwater exploration, since diving gear is one of the ways to stay below the surface longer. Pearl Abyss's launch notice also mentions a five-hour free trial of the Enhanced base game, but that trial does not include Charting the Unknown.

What the Expansion Adds

Pearl Abyss splits the content into four themes on its official DLC page: new threats, ocean exploration, a richer life in Pywel, and new stories. The 2.04.00 patch notes spell out what each one means in game terms.

  • New stories. One individual quest line each for Kliff, Oongka and Damiane, found in the Journal after you finish "Journey's End." The official teasers describe an ominous presence in the desert, a dangerous political conflict, a journey beyond time and an ancient secret beneath the waves.
  • The ocean. A new quest, "A Wider World," built around the sea. Ships become a new mount type, either built through a dispatch mission or bought from fleetmasters, and can be customized with parts sold in Demeniss and Delesyia. Ships can also run maritime trade with new trade goods.
  • Diving. A breath gauge lets you swim underwater. Refining your diving suit raises maximum breath, some foods restore breath temporarily, and new equipment lets the A.T.A.G mech operate underwater. There are new underwater mounts you can subdue or feed until their Trust is high enough to register them.
  • Islands and treasure. Several uncharted islands you pioneer through new missions, plus treasure maps that point to hidden caches across the world.
  • Housing and castles. A Free Construction mode for designing a home's walls and windows yourself, 17 residences built through dispatch missions, and two decorable castles: Drakesfall Castle and Flame Knight's Castle.
  • Management. A new Facilities tab on the map lets you rent liberated strongholds to run a restaurant, sawmill, smithy or tailor's shop, which keep operating while you are away.
  • Social systems. Camp festivals, hireable "Honorary Greymanes," an extra Trust level raised with the new Flirt interaction, proposals at 100 Trust, and a spouse who can travel with you.
  • Combat. The Garden of Trials, a ten-group boss gauntlet, along with several new bosses (some rematchable with Memory Fragments), new equipment and a Relic Collector NPC who trades items for relics.

The expansion also brings its own trophy pack. Trophy trackers list seven new trophies on PS5, and Steam's list shows the matching achievements: one for each character story, plus one each for the voyage, swimming, management and Garden of Trials challenges. They sit outside the base game's Platinum, and our Crimson Desert trophies breakdown lists them alongside the original 35.

Patch 2.04.00 also shipped free changes for everyone, including a dedicated insect storage box, barber shops in major cities, combat-usable kitchen tools such as the Frying Pan and Ladle, and a new Banker's Dice minigame in Demeniss and Delesyia. If you want to see how the new ships and divers fit around the existing travel network, our Crimson Desert fast travel guide covers Abyss Nexus points and how they interact with mounts.

How to Start Each Part of the DLC

The expansion does not open in one place. Different features hang off different points in the main story, which surprises players who install it and see nothing new on the map. Here is the order the official notes and the games.gg start guide lay out:

  1. Ships and the ocean storyline. Complete Chapter 3, "Howling Hill," then expand your Greymane camp. The games.gg guide pins the trigger to finishing "Gathered Will" in the Grounds of the Sunrise faction questline, which opens a Charting the Unknown category of 14 quests. Pick "A Wider World" in your Journal and follow its shipbuilding steps to get your first, small ship.
  2. Upgraded housing. Set up camp at Howling Hill and complete "Luke's Request" under Grounds of the Sunrise. Free Construction then appears under Home Decoration, Layout.
  3. Diving. Pearl Abyss's feature overview says ocean diving has no special conditions, so you can swim down as soon as you have the update, although the breath gauge limits how long you stay under.
  4. Character stories, castles and the Garden of Trials. These need the Epilogue, "Journey's End," completed. Drakesfall Castle also requires liberating its stronghold, and Flame Knight's Castle requires Damiane's quest "Politician." The Garden of Trials sits near the Axiom Archive Abyss above Hernand.
  5. Romance and festivals. No campaign requirement beyond building Trust; festivals depend on how far your camp has developed.

If you are not sure how close you are to the end of the campaign, our full list of Crimson Desert chapters shows where Howling Hill and Journey's End fall in the prologue, twelve chapters and epilogue.

Things to Check Before You Install

A few practical details in the patch notes are easy to miss and can cause real headaches:

  • Save compatibility. Save files created with the DLC installed cannot be loaded, or used for cross-save, on a game version that does not include the DLC. If you play on two platforms with cross-save, own the expansion on both before you upload a DLC save.
  • Mac players. Patch 2.04.00 required a one-time full-size download on Steam (Mac) and the Mac App Store, and the Mac App Store patch was listed as in progress at launch.
  • Hotfixes. Pearl Abyss shipped a quick run of fixes in the first week, through version 2.04.08 on November 6, 2026. That build fixed a ship wheel that would not rotate, a Mac crash after the Leviakan fight, underwater cave control problems and houses vanishing in Free Construction. It reached PlayStation and Steam first, with Xbox, Epic and the Mac App Store listed as later.

Steam's user reviews for the expansion sat at Mostly Positive when we checked, with 73 percent of roughly a thousand reviews positive. Most of the launch complaints in the patch notes are bugs being patched rather than missing content, so updating before each session is the simplest way to avoid them.

What to Play First Once It Is Installed

Because the expansion is spread across the campaign, the best first step depends on where your save is. Mid-campaign players should go for the ship questline straight away, since it only needs Howling Hill and some camp growth, and a ship changes how you approach the coastline for the rest of the story. Underwater exploration also opens up fishing grounds and creatures that were only visible from the shore before; our Crimson Desert fishing guide covers the rods, the legendary catches and the pond you can stock at camp.

Players who already finished the story have the most immediate content: the three character quests, both castles and the Garden of Trials all unlock at once. The Garden bans healing with food and lets you queue up to three of your own characters, so build them all up before you try the later groups. Charting the Unknown is a single-player expansion like the base game, and our breakdown of whether Crimson Desert has co-op explains what "comrade" means in the Garden's description.

Arriving at the Expansion Post-Game Ready

The biggest chunk of new content waits behind the end of the campaign, which is a long road. If you play on PS5 and would rather start the expansion from a finished campaign, the store's Crimson Desert full save (DLC ready) is a modded save with the main story done and the last 7 Epilogue quests left for you to play, every skill unlocked for Kliff, Damiane and Oongka, and chests stocked with gear, food, resources and collectibles. It is PS5 only, you need to own the game already, and the DLC itself is not included, so you still buy Charting the Unknown separately.

Other services, from unlocks to the platinum trophy, are listed on the Crimson Desert services hub, with platform notes on each listing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Crimson Desert DLC out yet?

Yes. Charting the Unknown launched on October 29, 2026 at 22:00 UTC (October 30 in Korea and Japan) on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and Epic, with the Mac App Store version arriving later.

Why was Charting the Unknown delayed?

Pearl Abyss said on September 30, 2026 that it needed two more weeks of development to deliver a more polished and stable experience, moving the launch to October 29.

How much does the Crimson Desert DLC cost?

It is $24.99 on the US PlayStation Store, and Game8 lists the same price on Xbox, Steam and Epic. Prices in other currencies vary by region.

Do I need to finish the story to play the DLC?

Only for part of it. Ships and A Wider World open after Howling Hill and camp expansion, diving has no special conditions, but the character stories, castles and Garden of Trials need Journey's End completed.

Is Crimson Desert Enhanced a separate purchase?

No. Enhanced is free patch 2.00.00 from August 25, 2026. Every owner gets it by updating, and the DLC lists Enhanced as its required base game.

Can I use cross-save with the DLC?

Yes, but a save made with the DLC installed cannot be loaded or cross-saved on a version without the DLC, so own it on every platform you plan to continue on.
