Yes, Space Marine 2 crossplay works across PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and it is switched on by default. The campaign and Operations have no crossplay restrictions at all, while Eternal War PvP keeps PC and console players in separate pools unless a console player opts in to matches with PC. Cross-progression exists too, but it is a manual save transfer through a saber.games account rather than an automatic sync. Here is how each piece works as of November 2026, including how to invite a friend on another platform.
We checked this against Saber's official Space Marine 2 FAQ and save-transfer and account-linking support articles, the Patch 6.0 notes and January 2025 Community Update on Steam, MeinMMO's crossplay walkthrough and Pure Xbox's Game Pass report in November 2026.
How Crossplay Works in Each Mode
Saber's official FAQ states that full crossplay between Steam, the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S has been supported since launch on 9 September 2024. The rules differ by mode, so it helps to know which mode you are queuing for before you assume your friend can join.

- Campaign: no crossplay restrictions. You can run the story in online co-op with friends on any supported platform.
- Operations (PvE): no crossplay restrictions either, and matchmaking draws from every platform.
- Siege, Stratagems and Crucible: these PvE modes launch from the same Battle Barge squad system as Operations, and we found no official note restricting crossplay in them. Crucible does use its own matchmaking pool, separate from standard PvE.
- Eternal War (PvP): split into a PC pool (Steam and Epic) and a console pool (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S) for fairness, with an opt-in option for consoles described below.
Co-op size is the same everywhere in PvE: up to three players in total, meaning you plus two friends. The FAQ also confirms there is no couch co-op and no LAN play, so every co-op session runs online, and Operations progress only saves while you are connected.
Turning Crossplay On or Off
You usually do not need to touch anything, because crossplay is enabled by default. If you want to check it, or turn it off to play only with your own platform, the setting lives in the main settings menu reached from the start screen. MeinMMO's walkthrough puts it under the Game tab in the Network section, where the Crossplay option should read On.
Turning it off narrows matchmaking to players on your own platform. That can mean longer queues in quieter modes, so most players leave it on unless they have a specific reason, such as wanting a console-only experience in PvP or troubleshooting a connection issue with players on another system.
The PvP toggle is a separate switch. When Patch 6.0, the Datavault Update, arrived on 6 February 2025, it lifted the restriction on PC and console PvP crossplay and made it opt-in for console players. The patch notes say you must be on the title screen to change that option, not in the Battle Barge, which trips up many players who look for it in the in-game pause menu.
Playing With a Friend on Another Platform
Inviting a friend on the same platform works through your platform's friend list. Inviting a friend on a different platform uses invite codes, because the game has no shared cross-platform friends list. The steps below follow MeinMMO's walkthrough.

- Finish or skip the opening tutorial mission so you can walk the Battle Barge.
- Open the squad panel in the upper right of the screen.
- Click the key icon next to Edit Squad to generate your invite code.
- Send that code to your friend outside the game, for example by message.
- Your friend opens the same squad panel and enters your code in the field below their own code.
- Once both of you are in the squad, pick the mode and launch together.
A few practical notes help sessions go smoothly. Codes have to be shared each time you want to group across platforms. If you want a mission without random players, Patch 3.0 added a private mode for Operations so you can play with bots or with friends without matchmaking filling the empty slots, and Patch 8.0 added an option to turn bots off in private lobbies for an extra challenge. Squad roles matter more than platform: Operations allow only one Marine of each class, so agree on classes before you launch. Our co-op tips for Operations squads cover that side in more depth.
Cross-Progression: Moving Your Save Between Platforms
Cross-progression in Space Marine 2 is handled by save transfers through a saber.games account, the same system you may see called PROS. It is not automatic. Saber's support article is explicit that saves are not synchronized, so you have to transfer manually each time you want your progress on another platform.
First, link the game to your saber.games account on each platform. According to Saber's support article, on PC you press TAB two or three times to show a QR code and then a few more times to open saber.games in your browser. On Xbox you press RT, and on PlayStation R2, to show the QR code, then scan it with your phone and finish linking on the website.
Then run the transfer.
- Log in to your saber.games account and confirm the game is linked on both platforms.
- Choose the platform whose save you want to copy, then the platform that should receive it.
- Read the confirmation points carefully, since the receiving platform's old save is replaced by the new one.
- Return to the game on the receiving platform and confirm the change.
Two limits matter. The next transfer is not available for two hours, although you can revert a transfer during that window. And paid DLC does not transfer between linked platforms, so cosmetic packs you bought on one store need to be owned on the other store to appear there. Plan transfers around that, and do not transfer twice in an evening expecting to bounce back and forth.
PC and Console Pools in Eternal War
PvP is where crossplay gets nuanced. At launch the FAQ split Eternal War into a PC pool and a console pool for fairness and balance. The January 2025 Community Update then announced the change that shipped in Patch 6.0: console players can now choose to be matched with PC players or with console players only.
Which choice is right depends on your priorities. Opting in usually means a larger pool and faster queues, especially at off-peak hours. Staying console-only keeps matches between controller players. The developers acknowledged in their September 2026 Q&A that low PvP population is a major factor in PvP server issues, which is a strong argument for opting in if your queues are slow. If you are new to Eternal War, our older PvP tips for Eternal War help with either pool.
Game Pass, Chat and Other Edge Cases
A few situations raise extra questions.
- Game Pass: Space Marine 2 joined Game Pass Ultimate, Premium and PC Game Pass on 29 January 2026, on Xbox Series X|S, PC and Cloud. Those are platforms the crossplay rules already cover, and we found no official note treating Game Pass copies differently.
- Voice and text chat: the FAQ lists voice chat and a preset communication wheel for everyone, with text chat exclusive to PC at launch. In the September 2026 Q&A the developers said crossplay text chat is being worked on.
- Steam Deck and cloud: the FAQ said GeForce Now worked from day one, with full Steam Deck support targeted later; check current Steam Deck status on the store page before buying for it.
- Difficulty mismatches: a squad can include players at different class levels, but higher tiers punish an underleveled teammate. Our difficulty levels guide explains which tier suits a mixed group, and the leveling guide helps a newer friend catch up.
- New content: everything in upcoming patches, including the Apothecary class planned for early 2027, is expected to follow the same crossplay rules; see our Year 3 roadmap for what is coming.
If a friend on another platform still cannot join, work through the usual causes in order. Check that crossplay is On for both of you, since one player with it switched off cannot see the other. Make sure both games are fully updated, because a pending patch on one platform can block grouping until it installs. Generate a fresh invite code rather than reusing an old one. Confirm the mode you picked actually allows a cross-platform squad, which matters for Eternal War if a console player has not opted in to PC matches. Finally, check that the squad is not already full: PvE squads cap at three players.
Catching Up Before You Squad Up
Joining friends who already run Absolute is easier when your own classes are ready. The store's Space Marine 2 services page offers boosting and unlock-all style services for PC, PlayStation and Xbox, covering PvE, PvP, cosmetics and progression, so a newer player can line up with an established squad.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Space Marine 2 cross-platform between PS5 and PC?
