Space Marine 2 Fastest Way to Level Up Classes in 2026

Space Marine 2 YouTube thumbnail: The FASTEST Way to Level in Space Marine 2 UPDATED GUIDE for 2026

The fastest way to level up in Space Marine 2 is to play Operations through Quick Match on the highest difficulty your squad can reliably finish, kill nearly everything for the Extermination bonus, and carry a Gene-Seed out alive when one appears. Stack those with Prestige ranks, each worth 10 percent more XP, and a fresh class climbs to level 25 far faster than by replaying an easy map on Minimal. This guide explains each multiplier, what the official patch notes say about it as of November 2026, and how to combine them without failing missions.

We checked this against the official Patch Notes 5.0, 6.0, 7.0 and 8.0 on Steam, the March 2025 and October 2026 Community Updates, Game8's Operation walkthroughs and Gamer Guides' difficulty breakdown in November 2026.

How Class Leveling Works in 2026

PvE progression is per class. Each of the classes levels separately from 1 to 25 by earning XP in Operations, and level 25 is also the entry requirement for Crucible, the endgame mode added in Patch 15.0 on 1 October 2026. Since Patch 7.0 in April 2025, reaching 25 is not the end: you can Prestige the class, which resets it to level 1 in exchange for a Prestige Perk, up to four times.

That structure means "leveling fast" really covers three separate goals, and the best method depends on which one you are chasing.

  • Reaching level 25 on a new class, usually to unlock its full perk tree and join harder lobbies.
  • Cycling through four Prestige ranks for the Prestige Perks and the class cosmetic each rank grants.
  • Leveling several classes at once, for example to fill whatever role your regular squad is missing.

Eternal War has its own separate PvP level track, and Crucible uses its own Crucible XP that only goes to the class you are playing. Neither one feeds your PvE class level, so time spent there is a side route rather than a shortcut.

The XP Multipliers That Actually Matter

The developers have added several XP boosts since launch, mostly to soften the Prestige grind. In the March 2025 Community Update they summed it up directly: they had added an Extermination bonus, a Quick Match bonus, and new difficulties that grant more XP. Here is what each one does.

  • Extermination bonus (Patch 5.0, 10 December 2024): your squad's XP depends on how much of the spawned enemy count you kill. Killing more than 85 percent earns Rank A, worth 120 percent of the old base XP; more than 60 percent earns Rank B, worth 110 percent; anything lower is Rank C at the standard amount. The rank is shared, so everyone in the squad gets the same result.
  • Quick Match bonus (Patch 6.0, 6 February 2025): extra XP when you queue through Quick Match, as compensation for not choosing the Operation.
  • Prestige ranks (Patch 7.0): each rank increases XP gain by 10 percent.
  • Difficulty: harder threat levels pay more XP per completed Operation.
  • Gene-Seed: an optional pickup that boosts the whole squad's XP if its carrier finishes the mission.
  • Community events: the developers occasionally run global boosts, such as the 20 percent XP boost that ran with Patch 12.0 in February 2026 to help players level the new Techmarine.

The practical takeaway is that skipping fights to finish faster costs you. A speedrun that ends on Rank C loses about a sixth of the XP that a thorough clear would have earned, so the shortest run is not always the fastest leveling run.

Choosing the Difficulty That Levels You Fastest

Higher difficulty pays more, but a failed Operation pays far less than a slower success, so the right tier is the hardest one your squad wins almost every time. Gamer Guides' launch-era table shows how steep the curve is: base mission XP of roughly 630 on Minimal, 945 on Average, 1,260 on Substantial and 1,890 on Ruthless, before bonuses. Lethal and Absolute were added later and sit above Ruthless.

Those base figures date from 2024 and the exact values may have shifted, but the shape holds: Ruthless roughly triples Minimal per mission. A new level 1 class does not have to start at the bottom either, since a strong squad can carry a fresh class through a higher tier. For a full rundown of what changes at each tier, from respawn timers to ammo limits, see our Space Marine 2 difficulty levels guide.

A sensible progression for a brand-new class looks like this.

  1. Levels 1 to 5: Average or Substantial with a capable squad, learning the class kit.
  2. Levels 5 to 15: Substantial, where Terminus-tier bosses start appearing and XP jumps.
  3. Levels 15 to 25: Ruthless, if your team clears it consistently.
  4. After 25: Lethal or Absolute for Prestige runs, with a squad that knows the maps.

Map choice matters less than it used to, because Quick Match picks the Operation for you and pays extra for it. If you prefer to choose, pick an Operation you know well enough to sweep every encounter for Rank A rather than the shortest one.

Gene-Seeds: The Risky Squad Boost

Gene-Seeds are rare pickups in Operations. According to guides from the game's first weeks, carrying one to the end of a mission gives the whole squad roughly 30 percent extra XP, but the bonus is lost if the carrier is incapacitated or killed, and the carrier cannot hold a Guardian Relic at the same time. Game8's walkthroughs also note that a Gene-Seed may appear in place of a Guardian Relic, so a spot where you normally find a Relic is worth checking.

On a squad that rarely goes down, that is the single largest optional boost in the game. On a difficulty where your team wipes now and then, it can cost more than it gives, because the carrier also loses the Guardian Relic safety net. Hand it to the sturdiest player, often the Bulwark, and play the rest of the mission more carefully. Our Gene-Seed locations guide lists the documented spawn spots per Operation.

Prestige Ranks: Leveling the Same Class Again

Prestige is where most of the long-term leveling now happens. Once a class reaches 25, open the Skill Tree screen in the Armouring Hall and follow the activation steps to reset to level 1 and claim a Prestige Perk. Each class can hold up to four active Prestige Perks, and each rank also unlocks a class cosmetic.

Two details make the second, third and fourth climbs shorter than the first.

  • Each Prestige rank adds 10 percent XP gain, so the fourth climb runs noticeably faster than the first.
  • You keep your knowledge of maps and your weapon progression, so you can jump straight to a high difficulty instead of easing in.

Before you press the reset, run through a short checklist. First, make sure you are not about to queue for Crucible with that class, because Crucible requires level 25 and a freshly reset class drops out of it. Second, line up a squad for the climb, since a level 1 class is much weaker on Ruthless than its gear suggests. Third, note your perk choices, because the tree resets too. Fourth, check whether a global XP event is about to start; waiting a few days for a boost is often faster than starting now.

The developers have been clear that Prestige Perks are minor rewards, not must-haves: in March 2025 they said you do not need Prestige Perks to beat Absolute. During the September 2026 Q&A, the Game Director also said a Prestige rework is planned to reduce friction from class perks resetting and to make Prestige endless, so the system may change during Year 3.

Side Routes: Siege, PvP and Collectibles

Not every hour has to be Operations. Siege mode also awards XP: since Patch 8.0, extracting from a Siege run earns Requisition Points, Armoury Data and XP, and the developers ran a Siege XP boost event in July 2025. It is a good change of pace, though a long Siege session ties up time you could spend on Rank A Operation clears.

Avoid modes that pay nothing. Patch 12.0's Custom Stratagems let you build private matches with any Battlefield Conditions, but all rewards are disabled there, XP included. If you are also working on the Data Mining trophy, combine it with leveling by sweeping maps thoroughly; our dataslate locations guide shows where each collectible sits, and thorough sweeps help your Extermination rank anyway. Want the Levels Done for You?

Four Prestige climbs across every class is a long road. The store's Space Marine 2 unlock service, listed for PC, PlayStation and Xbox (including Game Pass), says it puts every PvE class at Prestige 4 and level 25, every PvP class at Veteran level 50, and fully upgrades class perks, with an option to reset and choose your perks afterwards. The page says no account login is needed and lists content up to the 22 May 2026 update.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the max level in Space Marine 2?

PvE classes cap at level 25, and each class can then Prestige up to four times, resetting to level 1 each time.

Does Quick Match give more XP in Space Marine 2?

Yes. Patch 6.0 added a Quick Match bonus to compensate for not choosing the Operation yourself.

How much XP does a Gene-Seed give?

Guides put it at about 30 percent extra XP for the squad, paid only if the carrier finishes the mission without being downed.

Is it faster to level on Minimal or Ruthless?

Ruthless pays roughly three times the base mission XP of Minimal, so it is faster as long as your squad finishes reliably. Failed runs erase that advantage.

Do Prestige ranks make leveling faster?

Yes. Each Prestige rank increases XP gain by 10 percent, according to the Patch 7.0 notes.

Does PvP XP level my PvE class?

No. Eternal War has its own level track, separate from PvE class levels and Prestige.
