The Epic champions that sit near the top of current rankings are Geomancer, Deacon Armstrong, Rector Drath, Stag Knight, Uugo and Melga Steelgirdle, with Miscreated Monster, Dhukk the Pierced, Fahrakin the Fat, Tayrel and Psylar close behind. Ayumilove's tier list (updated October 25, 2026) rates Geomancer SS and every other name here S, and Pocket Gamer's October 2026 list and HellHades' free-to-play picks overlap heavily with it, so these are consensus picks rather than one site's opinion. The one notable disagreement, Pocket Gamer's lower grade for Geomancer, is covered below.

We checked this against Ayumilove's champion tier list (updated October 25, 2026), Pocket Gamer's tier list for version 11.75.8 (October 2026), HellHades' free-to-play Epic picks, its 2021 Epic ranking and its champion pages for every skill described here, Plarium's Doom Tower and Tavern guides, and the shard odds on the official RAID site, in November 2026.

Why Epics Carry More Weight Than Their Rarity Suggests

Epics are the champions most accounts actually build. The official RAID site lists a 94 percent Epic rate on Sacred Shards and an 8 percent Epic rate on Ancient and Void Shards, so you will own far more Epics than Legendaries, and Ayumilove's tier list reserves its SS grade for champions it considers super unique and best in class. Two Epics hold that grade on its October 2026 list: Geomancer and Seer.

Epics also do jobs that decide whether a team works at all: Decrease DEF and Decrease ATK, revives, turn meter control and healing. A well-built Epic that fills one of those roles usually does more for a team than an unbuilt Legendary. The names below were chosen because at least two current sources rate them highly (Ayumilove's SS or S tiers, Pocket Gamer's top tier, or HellHades' free-to-play picks), and every skill description comes from their HellHades champion pages.

Geomancer and Deacon Armstrong: The Headline Picks

HellHades' free-to-play guide calls Geomancer one of the best Epic champions in the game and lists him first, singling out his boss damage in the Hydra, the Clan Boss, Doom Tower bosses and the Iron Twins. His kit explains why: Quicksand Grasp drains a target's turn meter into his own with a 75 percent chance of HP Burn, Creeping Petrify removes or steals buffs, and his passive, Stoneguard, cuts the damage allies take by 15 percent and deflects it onto enemies under his HP Burn, with a chance for extra damage based on the target's max HP. Pocket Gamer is the outlier here, placing him only in its B tier for Epics, a reminder that every grade depends on what each site weighs most.

Deacon Armstrong is a support built around speed. His Sweeping Retribution hits all enemies with a high chance of a 60 percent Decrease DEF, and Time Compression raises every ally's turn meter by 15 percent, lowers every enemy's by 15 percent, and grants him an extra turn. HellHades rates him a versatile support for the Arena, dungeons and the Clan Boss and notes he pairs well with speed tuning. Deacon also sits in the top tier of Pocket Gamer's October list, and because his turn meter boost helps every ally at once, he fits a wide range of team builds.

Support and Sustain: Rector Drath, Melga Steelgirdle and Uugo

Sustain is one of the jobs Epics do best. Rector Drath, a Knights Revenant support, heals the whole team for 20 percent of her max HP with Necro Mutation, giving allies at full HP a Perfect Veil and injured allies a Continuous Heal, then revives an ally at 60 percent HP and 60 percent turn meter with Spirit Form. Her passive heals veiled allies by 10 percent of their max HP whenever they take a turn and adds 50 RES.

  • Melga Steelgirdle: Sheer Grit shields every ally for 20 percent of her max HP and adds a 15 percent Continuous Heal, and Glorious Return revives two dead allies with shields. Her basic attack also has a chance to cleanse a debuff from an ally.
  • Uugo: Maelstrom Wrack applies a 60 percent Decrease DEF to all enemies with a chance of Block Buffs, Uugo's Brew removes Heal Reduction and a debuff from each ally and heals them, and if every ally has fallen, the same skill revives the whole team at 50 percent HP and turn meter.

A team with one of these three keeps damage dealers alive long enough to matter, which is why they are among the first Epics worth gearing properly. Our artifact set guide covers which sets suit healers and revivers.

Debuffers and Damage: Stag Knight, Tayrel, Dhukk, Fahrakin, Miscreated Monster and Psylar

Many PvE fights hinge on landing Decrease DEF and Decrease ATK, and several Epics do both in one skill.

  • Stag Knight: Huntmaster hits all enemies with a 70 percent chance to apply 60 percent Decrease DEF and 50 percent Decrease ATK, and his passive gives an ally a 50 percent Accuracy boost when an enemy resists that ally's debuff.
  • Tayrel: his damage scales with DEF, Singing Steel applies Decrease DEF to all enemies and puts targets already under Decrease ATK to Sleep, and Preemptive Strike cuts a target's turn meter by half, stunning it for two turns if that empties the meter.
  • Dhukk the Pierced: Lunatic Outburst applies Decrease ATK and, on critical hits, Decrease DEF to all enemies, while Shrieking Display provokes enemies and gives him Reflect Damage and a one-turn Unkillable.
  • Fahrakin the Fat: HP Burn and Poison on Brand of Shame, a team attack with boosted critical rate and damage on Beatdown, and a passive that spreads 20 percent of his damage taken across the team. HellHades lists him for Fire Knight, the Clan Boss and the Hydra.
  • Miscreated Monster: Lightning Storm has a 50 percent chance to Stun every enemy and shields allies for 25 percent of the damage dealt, and It's Alive gives the other allies 50 percent Ally Protection, while his passive puts Fear on anyone who attacks a protected ally.
  • Psylar: a Void Dark Elf whose Leaden Legs applies 30 percent Decrease SPD to all enemies and cuts their turn meters by 40 percent, with a Speed Aura that works only in Faction Wars.

Where Each Epic Shines

Ratings blend every game mode together, so it helps to know where each pick earns its grade. HellHades' notes, from its 2025 free-to-play guide and its older but still useful 2021 ranking of top Epics, point to these fits:

  • Clan Boss: Geomancer, Deacon Armstrong and Fahrakin in the 2025 picks; the 2021 list calls Tayrel a strong Clan Boss leader.
  • Hydra: Geomancer and Fahrakin, both named for Hydra in 2025.
  • Dungeons: the 2021 list rates Stag Knight especially strong in the Spider's Den and Ice Golem's Peak, and Fahrakin is named for Fire Knight's Castle in 2025.
  • Faction Wars: the 2021 list credits Melga with keeping damage dealers alive in the Dwarves Crypt, and Psylar's Speed Aura only works in Faction Wars.
  • Doom Tower and Iron Twins: Geomancer again, for boss damage.

If one area is your wall right now, build the Epic whose strengths match it, even if another name sits a grade higher.

Other Epics Worth a Second Look

The consensus list is not the whole story. Pocket Gamer's October 2026 top tier also includes Akemtum, Archmage Hellmut, Demytha, Giscard the Sigiled, Inquisitor Shamael, Madame Serris, Peydma, Rugnor Goldgleam, Runekeeper Dazdurk, Sinesha, Ursala the Mourner and Zargala, and Ayumilove's other SS Epic is Seer. HellHades' free-to-play guide adds two underrated names: Toragi the Frog, a support with Ally Protection, provoke control, healing and shields, and Skraank, whose short-cooldown AoE HP Burn suits the Spider's Den and the Hydra. HellHades notes Toragi fits especially well next to revivers, and that Skraank is less universally useful than the others, so treat him as a specialist.

One of these can be earned without shard luck. Plarium's Doom Tower guide lists Archmage Hellmut as the first champion whose Fragments drop from Secret Rooms on Normal difficulty, so steady Doom Tower progress builds him over time.

Choosing Which Epics to Build First

A tier grade tells you a champion is strong; it does not tell you whether your team needs it. HellHades' advice on using any tier list is to start from what the content requires, such as Decrease ATK and DEF, buffs and damage for the Clan Boss, then check that your team covers those roles. Our tier list guide explains how to read the different rating systems.

  • Cover Decrease DEF first. Deacon Armstrong, Stag Knight, Uugo, Tayrel, Dhukk and Fahrakin all apply it, so check whether one of them is already sitting in your roster.
  • Add a reviver or healer next. Rector Drath, Melga or Uugo turns close losses into wins.
  • Spend Skill Tomes carefully. Plarium's Tavern guide warns they are hard to come by and suggests saving them for your strongest champions; feeding a duplicate of the same champion also upgrades a skill.
  • Look before you feed. Epics from Sacred Shards are 94 percent of results, so some of your best pulls will be unfamiliar names. Our Sacred Shards guide covers how to get more of those pulls.
  • Remember fusions. Monthly fusion events hand out Epic ingredients that can be worth keeping in their own right, as our fusion guide explains.

If You Want These Epics Without the Pulls

Collecting a full set of top Epics takes a lot of shard luck. If you would rather start from a roster that already has them, the store's Raid Shadow Legends page lists Raid accounts whose titles name their headline champions and stocked resources such as Energy and gems. Titles tend to lead with Legendaries, so if a specific Epic matters to you, ask the store's support before checkout. Plarium's terms forbid account trading, so read our account guide before deciding.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is the best Epic champion in Raid?

Geomancer has the strongest backing from the specialist sites: Ayumilove rates him SS, and HellHades lists him first among its free-to-play Epics and calls him one of the best Epic champions in the game. Pocket Gamer disagrees and rates him B.

What is the best Epic healer?

Rector Drath and Melga Steelgirdle are the strongest consensus picks. Rector heals the team, adds Perfect Veil and revives; Melga shields, heals over time and revives two allies at once.

Which Epics are best for Clan Boss?

HellHades lists Geomancer, Deacon Armstrong and Fahrakin the Fat among its free-to-play picks with the Clan Boss in mind. Champions that carry both Decrease DEF and Decrease ATK, such as Stag Knight, cover two of the Clan Boss roles HellHades lists.

Where do I get Epic champions?

Mostly from shards: the official RAID site lists 94 percent Epic odds on Sacred Shards and 8 percent on Ancient and Void Shards. Fusion events and Fragment events add more.

Is Deacon Armstrong worth building?

For most accounts, yes. Ayumilove rates him S, Pocket Gamer puts him in its top tier, and HellHades calls him a versatile support for the Arena, dungeons and the Clan Boss thanks to his team turn meter boost and AoE Decrease DEF.

Should I feed duplicate Epics?

Feeding a duplicate of the same champion upgrades one of its skills in the Tavern, so duplicates of an Epic you are building are best used that way rather than as general food.
