To run Phantom Blade Zero on PC you need at least an Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600, 16 GB of RAM, a GeForce GTX 1660 6GB or Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB and an SSD, and that floor only promises 1080p at 30 fps with upscaling switched on. The recommended tier (Core i5-10600K or Ryzen 5 5600X with an RTX 3060 Ti or RX 6700 XT) aims for 1440p at 60 fps, again upscaled, while ray tracing and path tracing carry their own GPU recommendations. Storage is the line item in the Phantom Blade Zero PC requirements that catches people out, because S-GAME's support FAQ asks for noticeably more free space than the 145 GB printed on Steam.
We checked this against the Steam store page, S-GAME's official requirements post and support FAQ, Soulframe Liang's launch letter on Steam, NVIDIA's launch article, and PC testing from DSOGaming, PC Games Hardware and Rock Paper Shotgun in November 2026.
The Official Spec Sheet, Tier by Tier
S-GAME published four hardware tiers on its official site on 12 August 2026, and the Steam listing repeats the first two. Every tier is quoted with upscaling enabled, so none of these targets describe native-resolution rendering. The minimum and recommended tiers share Windows 10 or 11 in 64-bit, DirectX 12 and 16 GB of memory, which means the step from 30 fps to 60 fps is about the graphics card and a newer processor rather than extra RAM.

| Tier | Graphics card | Processor | Target |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum | GeForce GTX 1660 6GB or Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB | Core i7-8700K or Ryzen 5 3600 | 1080p at 30 fps |
| Recommended | GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 8GB or Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB | Core i5-10600K or Ryzen 5 5600X | 1440p at 60 fps |
| Ray tracing | GeForce RTX 5060 8GB | Not listed separately | 1080p at 60 fps |
| Path tracing | GeForce RTX 5080 16GB | Not listed separately | 2160p at 60 fps |
The two lighting tiers name only GeForce cards. S-GAME's support FAQ describes the ray tracing entry as NVIDIA's recommended configuration, and NVIDIA describes the path tracing mode as a PC-exclusive enhancement it developed with the studio. Radeon owners still get their own entries for the standard renderer at the minimum and recommended levels. Windows is the only PC operating system on the store page, and the game uses Denuvo, which Steam discloses as third-party DRM.
Storage: Plan for 160 GB, Not 145 GB
Steam lists 145 GB of available space and says SSD installation is required. S-GAME is strict about that second part: its support FAQ says the game must live on a solid state drive and suggests checking your drive type in the Performance tab of Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) before downloading. The same FAQ describes the game as roughly 150 GB and asks for at least 160 GB of free space on the target drive, because downloading, extracting and verifying files all need temporary room. Notice that the two official numbers do not even agree with each other (145 GB on Steam, roughly 150 GB in the FAQ), so treat 160 GB as the real floor rather than a generous suggestion.
Preloading was hungrier still. Rock Paper Shotgun reported that S-GAME's preload guide asked for 300 GB free because temporary files and the complete game had to coexist during the unlock process, with usage falling back to about 145 GB once it finished. The FAQ applies the same logic to every later update: a small patch can still demand a large chunk of free space while the client verifies, replaces and rebuilds files. One more tip from S-GAME is easy to overlook. If you have a second SSD, install the game there rather than on your Windows C: drive, so system reads and writes do not interfere with frame rate stability.
Ray Tracing and Path Tracing Need Their Own Budget
According to the support FAQ, the PC launch version supports ray-traced reflections, shadows and caustics. NVIDIA's launch article adds the details of the path tracing mode: ReSTIR GI replaces Unreal Engine's ray-traced Lumen global illumination, water caustics only appear with path tracing on, and DLSS Ray Reconstruction switches on automatically on GeForce RTX cards when you enable it.

The cost is steep. DSOGaming measured an RTX 5090 at 46 to 47 fps at native 1440p with path tracing and 25 to 27 fps at native 4K, numbers that only become comfortable with DLSS upscaling and frame generation. PC Games Hardware reported severe traversal stutter once ray tracing was on, including frame-time spikes on a Ryzen 7 5800X3D under path tracing, and found that moving from rasterized lighting to path tracing nearly halves the frame rate. DSOGaming also noticed that ray tracing and path tracing cannot be toggled mid-session; you have to back out to the main menu to switch.
S-GAME says it spent a great deal of time refining the rasterized visuals so each environment keeps its intended art direction with ray tracing turned off. If your card sits near the recommended tier, the standard renderer is the sensible starting point, and the lighting modes are a bonus for hardware with real headroom.
Upscalers, Frame Generation and Settings Worth Changing
DSOGaming reports support for DLSS, FSR and XeSS, with Unreal's TSR as the native comparison. NVIDIA confirms DLSS 4.5 with Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, which can generate up to six times the frames or adjust the multiplier on the fly to hold a target frame rate, plus Reflex, which it says cuts PC latency by up to 49 percent in this game. Treat NVIDIA's headline frame rates as figures that lean on heavy frame generation; your base frame rate is what decides how responsive a parry feels.
Before blaming your hardware, work through these settings:
- Start from the official preset. The FAQ points to Settings (labeled System in game), then Graphics, then the option to apply the recommended graphics quality level.
- Turn off Motion Blur if you use frame generation. DSOGaming traced most of the visible artifacts in fast movement to the game's motion blur.
- Skip Ultra. DSOGaming saw very little difference between Ultra and Very High, so stepping down a notch costs almost nothing visually.
- Check the resolution sliders. Rock Paper Shotgun found that the defaults for Dynamic Resolution Quality and Super Resolution Output Scale make the picture softer than necessary, and set them to Off and 100 percent.
- Use a cable for DualSense. S-GAME recommends a USB data cable on PC because some advanced haptic features are limited over Bluetooth.
Launch-Week Fixes: Driver 617.42, the Day-One Patch and Shaders
Three pieces of launch advice came straight from Soulframe Liang's letter on the Steam page on 28 October. A day-one patch of about 5 GB significantly improves ray tracing and path tracing performance and fixes several bugs, so preloaded copies need it before the first launch. S-GAME also observed performance instability with NVIDIA's 621.01 Game Ready driver, which arrived on 21 October, and recommended rolling back to 617.42 with the clean installation option until NVIDIA's next driver. That advice was explicitly temporary, so check the game's Steam announcements before you downgrade.
Expect a long first boot. The game compiles shaders the first time it starts, and the FAQ warns that alt-tabbing away lowers the process's CPU priority and stretches the wait. DSOGaming called the precompilation lengthy but reported no major shader or traversal stutter in normal play afterward, which suggests the PCGH stutter is tied to the ray-traced modes.
If the game refuses to start with a "This device is not supported" message, the FAQ explains the cause: at launch it checks for DirectX 12 Feature Level 12_0, Shader Model 6.6, Resource Binding Tier 2, wave operations and 64-bit atomic operations, so a card that merely reports DirectX 12 support can still fail. S-GAME's first fixes are removing custom launch options such as a forced graphics adapter index, selecting your dedicated GPU in the Windows graphics settings, and verifying files through the game's Properties, then Installed Files menu on Steam.
Steam Deck, Handhelds and Lower-End PCs
As of 2 November 2026, Valve has not rated the game for Steam Deck, and its compatibility status still reads Unknown. S-GAME says it tested extensively on mid-range and lower-end PCs as well as handhelds, yet Rock Paper Shotgun's Steam Deck OLED could not get close to a steady 30 fps, dropping into the teens even on the Low preset with Ultra Performance upscaling. Valve's Steam Machine fared much better in the same test, holding 45 to 60 fps on the Medium preset with FSR set to Quality.
The PC version has other advantages. S-GAME says it supports 16:9 and 16:10 screens plus ultrawide displays beyond 3:1, and offers more flexible control remapping than the three button layouts available on PS5. If your hardware falls below the minimum tier, NVIDIA added the Steam version to GeForce NOW at launch, streaming to PCs, Macs, handhelds and browsers; our guide to playing without a PlayStation covers that route. Spend Your Frame Budget on Fights, Not the Grind
Once the game runs smoothly, the next bottleneck is usually materials and currency. If you would rather start a run with the arsenal already built, the store's Phantom Blade Zero mega modded save covers PS5 and PC, and its listing states that it is not available for Xbox or Nintendo Switch 2. The page lists all 33 main weapons and all 27 Sha-Chi weapons, 73 accessories and 17 medicines fully upgraded, 99,999,999 currency, 9,999 skill points and four fresh Cycle 1 save slots, two of them set to what it calls the Secret 66 Days difficulty.
You still need your own copy of the game, since only the save is sold, and the platinum trophy is not included. The Phantom Blade Zero hub collects everything the store offers for the game on one page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I play Phantom Blade Zero with 8 GB of RAM?
No published tier goes below 16 GB. Both the minimum and recommended specs on Steam list 16 GB of RAM, so an 8 GB system sits below everything S-GAME has announced.
Can it be installed on a hard drive?
No. Steam states that SSD installation is required, and S-GAME's support FAQ repeats that the game must be installed on a solid state drive.
Does the PC version use Denuvo?
Yes. The Steam store page lists Denuvo as third-party DRM for the game.
What graphics card do I need for path tracing?
S-GAME recommends a GeForce RTX 5080 16GB for 2160p at 60 fps with upscaling enabled. For standard ray tracing at 1080p and 60 fps, it recommends an RTX 5060 8GB.
Is it Steam Deck Verified?
Not yet. As of 2 November 2026 its Steam Deck status is Unknown, and Rock Paper Shotgun saw frequent drops into the teens on a Steam Deck OLED even at the Low preset.
Why did the preload ask for 300 GB?
Temporary files and the complete game had to sit on the drive together during the unlock, so S-GAME's preload guide asked for 300 GB free. Usage drops to about 145 GB afterward, though the support FAQ still recommends keeping at least 160 GB free for updates.
