How to Cancel Discord Nitro on Desktop, iPhone and Android

Discord YouTube thumbnail: How to Cancel Discord Nitro Subscription on PC (Easy Tutorial)

To cancel Discord Nitro on desktop or in a browser, open User Settings, select Subscriptions and press Cancel on the Nitro or Nitro Basic banner; in the mobile app, tap your avatar, then the cogwheel, then Manage Nitro under Billing Settings. The rule that catches people out is that you must cancel on the same type of device you subscribed on, and subscriptions bought through Apple's App Store are cancelled through Apple. Your perks keep working until the end of the billing period you already paid for, and below is everything else that changes, checked as of November 2026.

We checked each step against Discord's Help Center articles on cancelling Nitro and Server Boosts, its refund policy, the free trial, Nitro Credits, Server Boosting, avatar decoration and Orbs FAQs, plus Apple's and Google Play's own cancellation guides, in November 2026.

Cancelling on Desktop or in a Browser

If you subscribed on a computer, this is the only place you can cancel. Discord's help article is explicit that a Nitro subscription bought through the desktop or browser app must be cancelled through the desktop app or a browser, so start there even if you mostly use Discord on your phone.

  1. Click the cogwheel next to your username to open User Settings.
  2. Select the Subscriptions tab.
  3. Press Cancel inside the Nitro or Nitro Basic banner.
  4. Follow the prompts until Discord confirms the cancellation.

The same banner also offers Switch Plans, which is worth a look before you cancel outright. If the price is the problem rather than Nitro itself, moving from full Nitro to Nitro Basic keeps custom emoji, bigger uploads and a few other perks at a lower monthly cost. Our Discord Nitro price breakdown compares the two plans line by line.

Cancelling on iPhone, iPad and Android

If you subscribed in the mobile app, cancel from a phone or tablet. Inside Discord, tap your avatar in the bottom-right corner, tap the cogwheel in the top-right, scroll to Billing Settings and tap Manage Nitro, then follow the on-screen prompts until the cancellation is confirmed. Manage Nitro then shows the date your subscription expires.

You can also cancel through the app store that billed you, which is handy if the Discord app will not cooperate:

  • Apple App Store: open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, choose Discord and tap Cancel Subscription, scrolling down if needed. Apple's guide adds that if there is no cancel button or you see an expiration message in red, the subscription is already cancelled.
  • Google Play: open your subscriptions in Google Play, select Discord, tap Cancel subscription and follow the instructions. Google notes you keep access for the time you already paid for.

Discord's support team cannot manage subscriptions bought through Apple, so billing questions and refund requests for App Store purchases go to Apple. If you are not sure which platform billed you, check the receipt email or your App Store and Google Play subscription lists first.

What Changes When Nitro Ends

Cancelling does not cut anything off immediately. Discord says your subscription ends at the end of the current billing period, so you keep every perk until that date. What happens after that date is where people get caught out, because Nitro touches more of the app than the badge suggests.

  • Server Boosts. The 2 Boosts included with Nitro leave with it. A server relying on them may drop a level after a 72-hour grace period, and add-ons they funded switch off at once. Your boosting streak survives only if you apply a Boost elsewhere within 72 hours. Our guide to server boost levels explains what the server loses.
  • Extra Boosts you bought. They keep running, but without Nitro they lose the 30% discount and renew at full price, so cancel them separately if you do not want them.
  • Limits. Uploads fall back to the free 10 MB limit and messages to 2,000 characters, down from 4,000.
  • Cosmetics. Anything you bought in the Shop stays yours. The Nitro-only DISXCORE decorations stay in your collection but cannot be worn, and Quest decorations you were keeping through the Nitro Quest perk become unavailable until you subscribe again. Our avatar decorations guide lists which items survive.
  • Orbs and rewards. Monthly Orbs drops stop, but Orbs you already earned stay in your account. Nitro Rewards perks need an active subscription, although Discord says some already claimed perks may stay valid under their own terms.

Two long-term losses deserve a pause. Nitro Classic members who cancel cannot subscribe to Classic again, because it is no longer sold. And members on grandfathered local pricing lose it once a cancelled subscription ends, with Discord saying support cannot restore it.

A Quick Checklist Before You Confirm

A few minutes of prep heads off follow-up problems, such as a surprise charge for something you thought you had cancelled:

  • Confirm what you are paying for. Discord treats Nitro, Server Boosts, Premium App subscriptions and server subscriptions as separate subscription types, each with its own cancellation steps, so cancelling Nitro does not stop a Boost or app subscription you bought on its own.
  • Find the charge. Under User Settings, then Billing, the transaction history lists your purchases, and Discord's billing FAQ says card statements show DISCORD followed by the item name, while PayPal shows PAYPAL and DISCORD.
  • Tell the servers you boost. If your included Boosts are holding up a level, a heads-up gives admins the 72-hour grace period to find replacements.
  • Decide on Switch Plans. If you mainly want custom emoji and bigger uploads, moving to Nitro Basic may be enough.
  • Leave your Orbs alone. They do not expire and stay in your account after Nitro ends, so there is no rush to spend them.

Changed Your Mind? Re-Subscribing

A cancelled subscription sits in a pending state until the billing period runs out, and you can reverse it during that window. On desktop, open User Settings, go to Subscriptions and press Re-Subscribe in the banner. You will know it worked when the banner no longer says Pending Cancellation. On mobile, the steps live in the Manage Nitro tab.

Once the period ends, there is nothing to undo; you simply buy a new subscription. That has knock-on effects for anything tied to continuity, such as boosting streaks and grandfathered prices, so if you are on the fence, re-subscribing before the end date is the safer move. If you are weighing whether to keep Nitro at all, our earlier piece on whether Nitro is worth it walks through who gets the most from it.

Refunds and the 5-Day Window

Cancelling and refunding are different things. Cancelling stops the next charge; a refund returns money already paid, and Discord's policy for it is narrow:

  • Request it within 5 days of the initial purchase through Discord's billing support form, with the information it asks for.
  • Refunds are one-time per purchase category, so a past Nitro refund rules out any future Nitro refund.
  • Redeeming a promotional item, such as a partner offer, within 5 days of becoming a subscriber or renewing makes the subscription ineligible. Discord's nameplate and profile frame FAQs add that buying one of those items in the same 5-day window has the same effect.
  • App Store purchases are refunded through Apple, and purchases made with Paysafecard cannot be refunded.

Every request is reviewed case by case, so treat the refund route as a safety net for an accidental purchase rather than a plan.

Trials, Credits and Lost Account Access

A free trial can be cancelled at any time before it ends; you finish out the trial and are not charged on the renewal date. Discord's trial FAQ, written for its 30-day trial offer, adds that you cannot switch between monthly and yearly plans during those free 30 days, so cancel and decide afterwards if you are unsure.

Nitro credits, which you can claim with Orbs, behave differently. According to Discord's Nitro Credits FAQ, cancelling a paid Nitro subscription takes effect right away when credits are involved, but your active credits keep working, and credits themselves never turn into a recurring charge. Our guide to Discord Quests and Orbs explains how to earn those credits.

If you cannot log in to cancel, Discord's billing support form accepts requests from the email address tied to your account for desktop, browser and Android subscriptions; Apple subscriptions still go through Apple. Removing your payment methods is not a shortcut, since Discord's billing FAQ says you must cancel active subscriptions before you can remove every card. And be wary of anyone offering to cancel or refund Nitro for you in DMs: Discord states its staff never message users with offers, and our account safety guide covers the scams that use this trick.

If You Want Nitro Back Later

If you are cancelling because you only need Nitro for a stretch, such as a big file-sharing project or a server event, you may want it again later without restarting a subscription on your own card. For that, the store's Discord page lists full-access accounts that come with Nitro already active, usually for one to three months.

The number of months is in each listing's title, so you can match the length to the project instead of paying for time you will not use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can't I find the cancel button for Nitro?

You are probably on the wrong type of device. Nitro bought on desktop or in a browser must be cancelled there, mobile purchases must be cancelled on mobile, and App Store subscriptions are cancelled in your Apple subscription settings.

Do I get a refund when I cancel Nitro?

Not automatically. Cancelling stops renewal; a refund must be requested within 5 days of the initial purchase through Discord's billing support, is one-time per category, and goes through Apple for iOS purchases.

Do I keep Nitro until the end of the month after cancelling?

Yes. Your subscription stays active until the end of the current billing period, and Manage Nitro or your Subscriptions tab shows the exact end date.

What happens to my server boosts when Nitro ends?

The 2 Boosts included with Nitro are removed. Boosts you bought separately continue but renew at full price without the Nitro discount, and your streak needs a Boost reapplied within 72 hours.

How do I cancel Nitro if I cannot log in?

Contact Discord's billing support from the email address on the account and ask for the cancellation. If you subscribed through Apple, cancel from your Apple subscription settings instead.

Can I cancel a free Nitro trial without being charged?

Yes. Cancel any time before the trial ends under User Settings, then Subscriptions. You keep Nitro for the rest of the trial and are not charged on the renewal date.
