The Blood of Dawnwalker has three romance options: Anca, the herbalist from Coen's home village, Lacra, a vrakhir living in Svartrau, and Crake, the leader of the Manumit rebels. Each romance sits at the end of an optional side questline, none of them is required for any ending, and all three can be completed in a single playthrough without penalty. Below is who each partner is, which quests lead to the scene, and the exact dialogue lines that keep the door open.
We checked every quest name and dialogue line against the PowerPyx romance guide, the Video Games Chronicle romance guide, the PowerPyx trophy roadmap and the Steam global achievement stats in November 2026. Light spoilers for side characters follow; major story beats are kept out.
Who You Can Romance in Vale Sangora
Rebel Wolves built the romances into character questlines rather than a hidden affection meter. You do not gift items or grind approval points. Instead, a chain of five or more side quests builds the relationship, and a short run of dialogue choices at the end decides whether the scene happens. That design has two consequences worth knowing before you start: the romance itself is decided in one late conversation, and the quests leading to it still cost in-game time against the 30-day limit on saving Coen's family.

- Anca: an herbalist from Laslea whom Coen meets at the very start, when he is sent to fetch herbs for his mother. She leaves the village with him.
- Lacra: a vrakhir (the game's word for its vampires) based in Svartrau, who has her own conflict with Brencis and becomes a useful ally because of it.
- Crake: the leader of the Manumit rebels, whose real name is Marat. His is the game's only same-sex romance.
Each romance also has a bronze trophy attached to the quest where it lands: Sins of the Past for Anca, Misery Loves Company for Lacra and The Manumit for Crake. The trophies track quest completion, so you can earn them without choosing the romantic lines, but the quests that award them are exactly where the scenes play out. If you are chasing the full list, our Blood of Dawnwalker trophy and achievement roadmap covers how these three fit into a single efficient run.
Anca: The Herbalist Who Follows Coen Out of Laslea
Anca has the longest romance of the three and asks the most of you. Her questline runs Echoes of Silenced Bells, then the optional Most Precious Thing, then Between the Words, Where Old Devils Lie and finally Stronger Than Achilles. The romance resolves at the very end of Stronger Than Achilles, after you find the Font of Life, when you return to the inn for one more conversation with her.
The groundwork starts earlier than most players expect. Video Games Chronicle notes that the prologue already offers romance opportunities with her, and that in Between the Words you should prepare a warm drink when the option appears. Later in the chain, lines such as "I'd do anything for you" and "I love you" carry the relationship forward, with "I love you" described as the most important choice of the set.
When you reach the inn at the end of Stronger Than Achilles, PowerPyx lists the two lines that trigger the scene:
- Choose "I meant what I said."
- Choose "Screw decency. I want you, too."
A common worry is the Font of Life decision near the end of the chain. According to the VGC guide, the Font can go to either Coen or Anca and the romance stays available whichever way you choose, so you can make that call on story grounds. Finishing her full set of quests also unlocks Sins of the Past. On Steam, 52.1 percent of players had that achievement when we checked the global stats, which makes it one of the more commonly finished side stories in the game.
Lacra: The Vrakhir With a Grudge Against Brencis
Lacra's romance is shorter on dialogue and heavier on atmosphere. You can find your way to her by inspecting the northeastern walls of Svartrau, by finding items on the city rooftops, or by making friends with Vicho. Her chain runs A Friend Like This, Song of the Mountain, Hive and Seek, Our Rotten Roots and then The Night of Horrors, which is where the romance happens.

The Night of Horrors ends after you find the Mandrake. The first conversation asks whether you consume it, and the second leads into the romance. PowerPyx gives this sequence:
- "Can vrakhiri get drunk?"
- [follow Lacra]
- "Yeah, I'm all over all of it." or "Who says I'm not."
- [drink]
- [kiss her]
There is a practical reward on top of the scene. Drinking her blood during this sequence unlocks the Mesmerise vampiric ability, which is a good reason to finish her chain even if you are not interested in the romance itself. Completing The Night of Horrors awards the Misery Loves Company bronze trophy.
Two details trip people up. First, The Night of Horrors is optional within Lacra's wider story: the ending that bears her name only requires A Friend Like This, Song of the Mountain, Hive and Seek, Our Rotten Roots and the ending quest Midnight Reckoning. You can therefore reach her ending without ever triggering the romance. Second, staying with Lacra at the end of the game is a separate outcome from the romance scene. Our guide to every Blood of Dawnwalker ending explains how her questline feeds into The Patricide.
Crake: The Manumit Leader Who Keeps His Guard Up
Crake is the hardest of the three to win over because his circle does not trust Coen, and the questline reflects that. It is also the longest chain on paper: The Firebrand, the optional Under Watchful Eyes and Taking Back What's Mine, Shadows in the Woods, Where Loyalty Lies, the optional Old Friends, New Friends, What Hunts the Night, What Moves the Dead, Who Pulls the Strings, the optional Distant Shadows and finally A Closer Look.
A Closer Look is the romance quest, and it opens after Distant Shadows, the quest where you spy on Crake's father. Even though PowerPyx marks Distant Shadows as optional for the main chain, it is the gate for Crake's scene, so do not skip it if this is the romance you want. A Closer Look itself is a single conversation. PowerPyx lists these choices to secure The Manumit trophy:
- "May I join you, then?"
- "I'm worried about you. What's wrong?"
- "I know what this is about."
- "Ascar is your father."
- "Why?"
- "Hey. Nothing you say can change the way I see you."
The conversation that follows decides whether the romance plays out. Pick [kiss him back] to follow through. As with Lacra, the ending tied to Crake (The Knyazmaker) depends on finishing his main chain through Who Pulls the Strings and the ending quests Rise at Dawn and Fall Before Dusk, not on the romance. A Closer Look is optional for that ending.
Can You Romance All Three in One Playthrough?
Yes. PowerPyx describes the three romances as self-contained: they do not overlap or contradict each other, and none of them blocks the others. Video Games Chronicle reaches the same conclusion and adds that none of the three carries a penalty. There is no jealousy scene to manage and no partner who walks out because you pursued someone else.
The real constraint is time, not loyalty. The clock in this game moves when you complete certain quest objectives, wait, fast travel, switch between day and night, or learn some abilities, and Coen has 30 in-game days to save his family. Three full companion chains on top of the main story is a lot of quest objectives. A sensible order is to push Anca forward first (her chain starts in the prologue and leans on the same early areas you are already exploring), weave Lacra's chain in once Svartrau opens up, and save Crake's long chain for when you have a clear picture of how many days remain.
Lacra's chain has a second hidden cost. Feeding and vampiric play are part of her story, and that pushes Coen's Corruption up. If you want to understand what that meter does to his powers before you commit, read our breakdown of how Corruption works.
Mistakes That Lock You Out of a Romance
Because every romance is decided by a short burst of dialogue at the end of a long chain, the most painful mistakes come late. These are the ones worth guarding against:
- Not saving before the final conversation. The game gives you 54 manual save slots on top of rotating autosaves and quicksaves. Make a manual save before the inn talk with Anca, before the Mandrake scene with Lacra and before A Closer Look with Crake, so a misclick does not cost you the scene.
- Skipping Distant Shadows. It looks optional in Crake's chain, but A Closer Look only appears after it.
- Letting Blood Hunger build before a big night conversation. If Coen's vampiric health drops to one segment or less, a normal dialogue line can turn into "Give in to the hunger," and a forced feed kills the NPC. Killing an important character is permanent and can remove or change their quests.
- Running the calendar down. If 30 in-game days pass, Coen's family dies in Brencis's castle. You can keep playing and finish side content, but you will have lost the main rescue, which most players care about more than any romance.
Endings also return you to the title screen instead of letting you free roam, so if you want to see a romance and an ending scene in the same run, finish the romance first. There is also no New Game Plus yet to replay the chains with a powered-up Coen; our New Game Plus status update covers what the developers have said about it so far.
Skipping the Grind Before the Heartbreak
All three romances sit behind long chains of quests that include real fights, from Isbrand's chamber in Hive and Seek to later stops in Crake's chain such as What Hunts the Night and What Moves the Dead. If you would rather spend your 30 days on the story than on levelling Coen, the store's Blood of Dawnwalker modded starter save gives you a fresh file with a level 50 character, every skill tree unlocked, legendary weapons and armor sets already in the inventory and a large coin balance. It is for PS5 and PC only, and the game itself is not included.
You can see everything else the store carries for this game on the Blood of Dawnwalker store page.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many romance options are in The Blood of Dawnwalker?
Three: Anca, Lacra and Crake. Each one is tied to an optional side questline.
Can you romance Anca, Lacra and Crake in the same playthrough?
Yes. The romances are self-contained and carry no penalty for pursuing more than one. The only real limit is the 30-day in-game clock.
Is Crake a gay romance option?
Yes. Crake, whose real name is Marat, is the game's only same-sex romance. It happens during the quest A Closer Look.
Does romance affect the ending in The Blood of Dawnwalker?
No romance is required for any ending. Lacra's and Crake's endings depend on finishing their questlines, not on the romance scenes.
What do you get for romancing Lacra?
Drinking her blood during The Night of Horrors unlocks the Mesmerise vampiric ability, and finishing the quest awards Misery Loves Company.
Does the Font of Life choice ruin Anca's romance?
No. Whether the Font goes to Coen or Anca, the romance remains possible at the end of Stronger Than Achilles.
