Valor Mortis Bosses in Order: All 10 Fights Listed

Valor Mortis YouTube thumbnail: Valor Mortis - All Bosses & Ending

Valor Mortis has ten bosses, and you meet them in a fixed order: General Lothaire, The Iron Marshall, Sphinx, Slaughtermill, Anna, High Justicar Aurelius, Experiment 83, The Orphan, Captain Raphael and finally Entity, Voice of the Void. The campaign is linear, so every player gets the same sequence, and there are no optional bosses or post-game superbosses to hunt down. Below is the full order with chapters, health pools, Catalyst rewards and the one thing worth knowing before each fight, current as of November 2026.

We checked this against the metabot.gg boss database (built from the PC game files after the 1.0.1 patch), the All Things How boss walkthrough, PowerPyx's trophy roadmap, the update 1.005 patch notes and Steam's global achievement stats in November 2026.

The Full Boss Order at a Glance

The table below follows campaign order. Health is the total pool from the game data, and the Catalyst column is what the kill pays out. Add the column up and the ten fights are worth 309,000 Catalysts, which is a real chunk of your leveling across a first run. Lothaire is listed under Chapter I because that is where you first face him, but the kill that counts happens at the end of Chapter II.

Two things jump out. First, Chapter VIII in the City of Orphans has no entry on the boss list, so that stretch is about exploration, side quests and tough regular enemies rather than a chapter-ending duel. Second, Chapter VII doubles up, with Aurelius on the bridge and Experiment 83 in the lighthouse basement shortly after. Plan your flask stock and your Nephtoglobin for two fights in quick succession there.

Early Game: Lothaire, The Iron Marshall and Sphinx

General Lothaire, the Eagle-Bearer opens the roster. Most guides describe the Battlefield meeting at the end of Chapter I as a fight built for you to lose: a cutscene plays, you wake in the Valley of Ashes, and you keep your Catalysts. The kill that pays the 10,000 Catalysts and the Torn Banner trophy is the rematch outside the Abandoned Church at the end of Chapter II. He has two phases, takes 40% extra fire damage and resists Stasis by 50%, so the Fire Transmutation is the obvious pick. Our General Lothaire first boss walkthrough covers every attack and both encounters in detail.

The Iron Marshall waits in a barn just west of the Orchard Lantern in the Fallen Village. He is a single 2,400 Health bar with no second phase, but he hits hard: watch for the red flare that signals an 80-damage rush and an unblockable rising bash. He shrugs off 10% of ranged damage, 30% of explosive damage and 20% of Stasis, so this is a melee and parry fight more than a shooting one.

Sphinx, Devourer of the Unworthy sits behind a carved stone door with a red seal in the Caverns, which you open by pressing William's mutated hand against it. It is fast and has two health bars. Stasis buys you breathing room, and in the second phase the target on its face is the spot to shoot with the ammunition the arena provides. Parrying its claws fills the stagger gauge for a skull strike, and the kill unlocks the Not a Cat Person trophy.

Mid Game: Slaughtermill, Anna and High Justicar Aurelius

Slaughtermill in the Vale of Wrath is the odd one out, a puzzle fight against a corrupted windmill rather than a duelist. Only its red bulbs take damage. Pull the boards marked with blue flowers to expose hidden bulbs, destroy the first four to open the mill, then shoot the core. When the firestorm starts, raise a Nephtoglobin platform and take cover. Pulling the support plank drops the whole structure into a cavern for the second phase, where you shoot the sail bulbs and then the eye while avoiding the limbs that sweep the platform. It pays 30,000 Catalysts.

Anna, the Bride Drowned in Tears in the Cursed Hollow has only 2,200 Health and staggers easily, but she cuts firearm damage in half and takes slightly less fire damage than normal. Clear the Shambling Civilians she brings in with a Hand Grenade, then commit to melee when she is stunned. Update 1.005 removed an easy kill from a rock pile in her arena, so the old cheese spot no longer works.

High Justicar Aurelius, Last of the Faithful is a rapier duel on a bridge in The Outskirts. He is the lowest Health boss at 1,500, but his head takes only half damage and firearms do 30% less, so parrying is the core of the fight. When he drinks a flask he transforms and grows a huge arm; stay clear until he returns to human form, then punish. Beating him earns True Oath.

Late Game: Experiment 83, The Orphan and Captain Raphael

Experiment 83 lives in the lighthouse basement on The Outskirts, and the Shrike is the one who leads you there. It has 3,400 Health, takes 20% extra fire damage and resists Stasis by 30%. Circling it to bait a chase, then building Ignite and shooting its weak points, is the standard plan. Saved Nephtoglobin Vials help a lot here because the fight comes right after Aurelius.

The Orphan in the University is the first boss with 4,000 Health and a deep posture bar. Poison vents fill the arena, it is immune to Infection, and a cutscene starts the second phase. Shield Transmutation, which you pick up in the University itself, absorbs its combos, while Oil Grenades and Flaming Whetstones keep the damage flowing in phase two. Coup de Grace is the trophy.

Captain Raphael of the Nephtis Superioris tops the Fortress High Tower. He fights with a blade and a pistol, has the deepest posture bar in the game at 2,000, and heals with flasks. Close the distance when he reaches for one, or interrupt the drink with a grenade or a firearm shot. Only 26.5% of Steam players have the Behemoth achievement for beating him as of November 2026, which tells you how many people stall before the final stretch. Climbing the High Tower is also the point of no return: Napoleon's Prison and Entropy that follow have no fast travel, so finish the seven Eternal Guard duels of The Oathbound before you start this fight.

The Final Boss: Entity, Voice of the Void

Entity is fought in Entropy during Chapter XI and is the largest Health pool in the game at 5,000. Six of its nineteen attacks are unblockable, and it summons enemies from earlier regions. Each summon dies in one hit, so clear them first, keep Shield Transmutation ready for the heavy strikes, then focus the boss. The kill pays 100,000 Catalysts, roughly a third of the roster's total, and triggers the closing cinematic. If you want to know what happens next without playing it yet, our ending breakdown marks its spoilers clearly.

After the credits you load back in beside a Lantern with Lucjan standing next to it, and you can fast travel to clean up side quests. You cannot refight bosses in a menu, and New Game+ was not in the game at launch: the publisher has it slated for the fourth quarter of 2026, so as of November 2026 a second boss run means starting a fresh save, which overwrites your current one.

Preparing for the Whole Roster

  • Bring fire early. Lothaire and Experiment 83 both take extra fire damage, and the Fire Transmutation is one of the first powers you get.
  • Do not lean on guns against the late bosses. Anna, Aurelius, Raphael and Entity all cut firearm damage, so treat the Pistol as a tool for weak points rather than a damage source.
  • Learn the parry window. The default window is 0.2 seconds, and a parry negates all damage and costs no Endurance. That makes it the best defense against every humanoid boss on the list.
  • Dodge into attacks, not away. A dodge gives 0.25 seconds of invulnerability, and red glows mark the unblockable attacks you must dodge rather than block.
  • Use the boss Lanterns. Most arenas have a Lantern close by, so a failed attempt costs a short walk. Death drops every Catalyst you carry, and a second death before you pick them up erases them for good, so spend your Catalysts at the Lantern before you walk through the fog.

Leveling between fights matters as much as technique. If a boss is walling you, the guide on the best Catalyst farming spots by chapter shows where to grind a few levels quickly, and our look at the lack of difficulty settings explains which options actually make fights easier to manage.

Skip the Leveling Between Bosses

If you want to see every fight without stopping to farm, the store's Valor Mortis Mega Modded Save starts you at the very first Lantern of Chapter I with a level 264 character, every skill active and 999,999 Catalysts, plus all weapon and Transmutation materials at 9,999 and a fully upgraded Ferrofluid Flask with 12 charges. You still play every boss in the order above, just with far more Health and damage behind you. If that feels too easy later, Reset Level on the Lantern's Level Up screen drops you to level 1 while keeping your Catalysts.

The save is for PS5 and PC only, not Xbox, and you need to own the game already. Other Valor Mortis services are listed on the Valor Mortis store page.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many bosses are in Valor Mortis?

There are ten main bosses spread across eleven chapters. Chapter VII has two of them and Chapter VIII has none.

Are there optional bosses in Valor Mortis?

No. Every boss is part of the main story, and there is no post-game superboss. Tough elite enemies and the Eternal Guard duels are optional, but they are not on the boss list.

Who is the final boss in Valor Mortis?

Entity, Voice of the Void, fought in Entropy during Chapter XI. It has 5,000 Health, summons enemies and pays 100,000 Catalysts.

Can you beat Lothaire the first time?

Guides disagree. Most treat the Chapter I fight as a scripted loss, while at least one says a first-attempt win is possible. Either way, the rematch at the Abandoned Church is where the main kill and reward happen.

Which Valor Mortis boss is the hardest?

It depends on your build, but Captain Raphael and Entity have the deepest posture and Health pools, and only about a quarter of Steam players have beaten Raphael as of November 2026.

Can you refight bosses after the ending?

Not at launch. Free roam after the credits lets you finish side content, but there is no boss rematch option, and New Game+ is planned for the fourth quarter of 2026.
