The Diamond Exoskeleton is the best exoskeleton for most players in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl: it pairs top-tier radiation and physical protection with five artifact slots, a +17.6 kg carry bonus and upgrades that need no blueprints. You can pick one up at the Spark bunker in Yaniv or in Prypiat's Sunny Kindergarten, and the sections below cover every other exoskeleton, where it is and how to make it sprint.
We checked these figures against Game8's exoskeleton stats, location and sprint-upgrade guides, the PSNProfiles trophy list and GSC Game World's Cost of Hope notes in November 2026. Stats can shift with patches, so confirm numbers in your inventory's Equipment section.
Why the Diamond Exoskeleton Comes Out on Top
Game8's exoskeleton ranking puts the Diamond first because, once fully upgraded, it ends up with the highest physical and radiation protection of any armor, and it reaches that point without a single upgrade blueprint. Base stats on Game8's sheet are 2 thermal, 2 electrical, 2 chemical, 4 radiation, 2.1 psi and 4 physical, at 9.5 kg with five artifact slots.

The slots matter as much as the armor values. Game8 notes that four of the five can be upgraded with lead containers, which shield you from artifacts that emit radiation, so you can run strong but dirty artifacts without cooking yourself. The built-in bonus of +17.6 kg maximum weight is the other big draw, since heavy suits otherwise eat into how much loot you can carry home.
The one catch is timing. Both Diamond locations are late: the Yaniv copy sits in the Spark bunker that stays locked until the main mission The Boundary, and the Prypiat copy is on the second floor of the Sunny Kindergarten, which you reach after the same mission. Plan on it as your endgame suit rather than something you wear for most of the campaign, and keep enough coupons in reserve for the sprint upgrade covered below, because a Diamond you cannot run in is a much less appealing suit.
Every Exoskeleton and Where to Find It
Game8 lists the following free exoskeletons in the world. Most of them only become reachable once Prypiat opens during The Boundary, so the Cuirass is the only one you can realistically grab earlier.
- Cuirass Exoskeleton: SKD Assembly Unit in the Cooling Towers, on a shelf at the topmost rafter on the west side. Climb the east stairways, follow the walkways and take the west ladders up.
- Liberty Exoskeleton: the Bookstore in Prypiat, on the second floor of its northern side.
- Diamond Exoskeleton: the Sunny Kindergarten in Prypiat (second floor, north side) or on top of the Spark bunker southwest of Yaniv Station.
- Operator Exoskeleton: the Fluoridation Station at Jupiter, on the second floor of a building you enter by climbing a nearby pipeline.
- Brummbar Exoskeleton: the sixth floor of the White House southeast of the Enerhetyk Palace of Culture, entered through the courtyard by a narrow building on the west corner. Cost of Hope adds a second one in the Laboratory X16 safe.
- Ruby Exosuit: the third floor of the Enerhetyk Palace of Culture's northeast side. You have to blow open the window to the right of the room with locked double doors using an RPG-7U or grenades.
- Standard Exoskeleton: during the main mission Legends of the Zone in Cordon, in a room nearby after you talk to Strelok and leave the TV room.
The Laboratory X16 copy of the Brummbar uses a keypad, and you will find that code along with the rest of the expansion's combinations in our safe and door code list. For lighter suits that you will wear through the middle of the game, our existing best armor guide covers the wider picture.
How the Suits Compare on Paper
The table below uses Game8's base stat sheet. Higher numbers mean more protection, and weight is the suit's own weight before any carry bonus.

| Suit | Thermal | Electrical | Chemical | Radiation | Psi | Physical | Slots | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Diamond | 2 | 2 | 2 | 4 | 2.1 | 4 | 5 | 9.5 kg |
| Liberty | 1.8 | 1.8 | 1.6 | 4 | 2.1 | 4.3 | 5 | 10.5 kg |
| Cuirass | 1.7 | 1.7 | 1.9 | 3 | 1.1 | 4.3 | 3 | 10.5 kg |
| Operator | 1.7 | 1.7 | 1.7 | 3.4 | 0 | 4 | 4 | 9.5 kg |
| Brummbar | 1.55 | 1.55 | 1.7 | 3 | 1.1 | 4 | 4 | 9.5 kg |
| Ruby Exosuit | 1.3 | 1.8 | 1.3 | 4 | 1.1 | 3.7 | 5 | 20 kg |
| Bulwark Exosuit | 1.4 | 1.7 | 1.5 | 3.5 | 2.1 | 4 | 3 | 20 kg |
| Shield of Duty Exosuit | 1.2 | 1.1 | 1.2 | 3 | 1 | 3.7 | 3 | 20 kg |
| Exoskeleton | 1.2 | 1.6 | 1.6 | 3 | 2.5 | 3.2 | 4 | 15 kg |
Two things jump out. The Liberty and the Cuirass both start with 4.3 physical, higher than the Diamond's base 4, so on the stat sheet alone they look tougher against bullets. Game8 still ranks the Diamond first because of where it ends up after upgrades, its five slots and its blueprint-free upgrade path. The Liberty is a strong alternative if you find it first, with the same five slots and radiation value.
The heavy exosuits weigh 20 kg each, roughly double the lighter exoskeletons, and none of them beats the Diamond on radiation. The standard Exoskeleton from Legends of the Zone is the psi specialist of the group at 2.5, which can be handy in psi-heavy areas, but its physical rating is the lowest on the list.
Making an Exoskeleton Sprint
A freshly found exoskeleton cannot sprint. Game8 explains that you need a sprint module, the Hydraulic Amplifiers for Servos upgrade, installed by a technician who can work on exoskeletons. Two technicians can do it: Bolero at the Enerhetyk Palace of Culture in Prypiat and Harpy at Yaniv Station.
- Bring the suit to Bolero or Harpy. The Diamond, Liberty and Ruby sprint upgrade costs 15,000 coupons on Game8's list, and the Operator's costs 7,500.
- For the Brummbar, first find its Hydraulic Amplifiers for Servos blueprint at the heel of a statue northeast of the Enerhetyk Palace of Culture. With the blueprint, its sprint upgrade costs 7,500.
- For the standard Exoskeleton, have Screw in Rostok install the Aramid Helmet upgrade first, then pay 15,500 for the sprint module.
The Cuirass is the exception: it has no sprint module at all. Its slot is taken by an Expanded Backpack upgrade that adds 10 percent carry capacity and trims 1.0 kg from the suit. That makes the Cuirass a fine early hauler, but a poor choice once you need to cover ground quickly. Since sprinting is off the table in an unmodified exoskeleton, it pays to know where the guides are; our fast travel guide lists them base by base.
Reading Your Suit's Real Protection
The numbers on a guide's stat sheet are a starting point, not what you are actually wearing. Since Update 1.7 in November 2025, the inventory's Equipment section shows your exact protection against each Zone danger, adding up your armor, helmet and artifacts and accounting for wear and tear. That makes it the quickest way to compare two exoskeletons you own: equip one, note the totals, swap and compare.
The same update gave artifacts five-level stat readouts and added an artifact radiation bar, which shows whether the artifacts in your slots are leaving you with a net radiation load. This is where the Diamond's lead-container slots pay off, because you can slot a radioactive but powerful artifact without pushing that bar up. If you are still working out which artifacts to run, our existing best artifacts guide covers the strongest combinations.
Mistakes That Waste an Exoskeleton
- Expecting the Cuirass to sprint. It never will. Treat it as a carry upgrade until a sprint-capable suit is available.
- Ignoring weight. The heavy exosuits weigh 20 kg before you add a single item, so the protection they add can cost you mobility when you are also hauling loot.
- Skipping the lead containers. Four of the Diamond's five slots can take them, and leaving them off means every radioactive artifact you equip is chipping away at your health.
- Letting the suit break. The PSNProfiles list even has a trophy, Taking it for granted, for gear broken beyond repair, with a reminder to visit the technician regularly. Repair before long trips into Prypiat.
- Looting the Lisovyi room unprepared. The heavily armed response arrives right after you empty it, so go in healed and stocked.
Choosing a Suit for Your Playstyle and Difficulty
On Rookie and Stalker, any late exoskeleton is more protection than you strictly need, so pick on comfort: the Diamond for its carry bonus and slots, the Liberty if you reach the Bookstore first. On Veteran and Master the picture changes. Game8's difficulty guide says enemies are tougher and loot is scarcer on Veteran, and GSC describes Master as having less durable items and less friendly traders, so repair bills matter and the blueprint-free Diamond upgrade path saves real money. Our guide to the difficulty differences goes through those changes in detail.
Exoskeleton wearers are also targets you will fight. One trophy, Can opener, asks you to kill an enemy wearing an exoskeleton with a knife, and the coded Lisovyi room in Yaniv sends mercenaries in exosuits after you once you loot it. Our trophy guide covers when to tackle Can opener and the other combat trophies.
Starting With Every Suit in the Stash
Hunting every exoskeleton and paying for sprint modules is a late-game coupon sink. If you would rather start with the gear, the store's fully upgraded gear save puts every armor set in the game in your inventory and stash, stacked x9999, alongside every weapon, all ammo, crafting resources and upgrade parts and 99,999,999 coupons. It comes on a fresh early-game profile, so the campaign is still ahead of you.
The page notes that carry weight is unchanged, that some modded armor can show a placeholder icon (cosmetic only), and that it works on PS5 and PC, not PS4 or Xbox. You need your own copy of the game. See the Stalker 2 hub for the other listings.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the first exoskeleton in Stalker 2?
The Cuirass Exoskeleton at the SKD Assembly Unit in the Cooling Towers is the earliest free one. Most others become reachable after The Boundary opens Prypiat.
Can you sprint in an exoskeleton in Stalker 2?
Only after a technician installs the Hydraulic Amplifiers for Servos sprint module. Bolero in Prypiat and Harpy at Yaniv Station can do it. The Cuirass cannot sprint at all.
Where is the Diamond Exoskeleton?
On top of the Spark bunker southwest of Yaniv Station, unlocked during The Boundary, or on the second floor of the Sunny Kindergarten in Prypiat.
Is the Ruby Exosuit worth it?
It has five slots and strong radiation protection, but it weighs 20 kg and its physical rating is lower than the Diamond's, so most players prefer the Diamond.
Which technician upgrades exoskeletons?
Bolero at the Enerhetyk Palace of Culture in Prypiat and Harpy at Yaniv Station. Screw in Rostok handles the Aramid Helmet step for the standard Exoskeleton.
Does Cost of Hope add a new exoskeleton?
It adds another way to get the Brummbar, in the Laboratory X16 safe during The Destructive Power of the Mind.
