To level up fast in Pokémon GO, stack a Lucky Egg, which doubles all XP for 30 minutes, on top of the biggest XP actions: five-star raids and Max Battles, batches of evolutions (especially new Pokédex entries), and friendship level-ups that pay up to 100,000 XP for Best Friends. Add the free Daily Adventure Egg, worth 10,000 XP every day from level 15, and November 2026's event bonuses, and the climb gets much quicker. The cap has been level 80 since October 15, 2025, with extra research tasks required from level 71.
We checked the numbers against the official 2025 leveling update announcement, Leek Duck's level 80 breakdown, Pokémon GO Hub's XP table, Serebii's Max Battles page and the official November 2026 event posts.
How the Level 80 System Works
The October 15, 2025 update raised the Trainer level cap from 50 to 80 and rebuilt the XP curve. Existing XP carried over, nobody dropped a level, and Trainers who were level 23 or higher gained at least one level on the new curve. The cap change applies only to Trainers, not Pokémon.

The official post lists total XP milestones every ten levels:
| Level | Total XP |
|---|---|
| 10 | 48,000 |
| 20 | 258,000 |
| 30 | 1,083,000 |
| 40 | 3,953,000 |
| 50 | 12,753,000 |
| 60 | 34,353,000 |
| 70 | 85,853,000 |
| 80 | 203,353,000 |
Two things stand out. First, the gap from 70 to 80 (117.5 million XP) is larger than everything before level 70 combined, so the final ten levels are a long-term goal. Second, the old Level-Up Research for levels 41 to 50 was removed; research tasks now apply only to levels 71 to 80, where you need both the XP and the tasks for each level. The official post does not list those tasks, so check the in-game requirements before you plan.
Leveling also unlocks rewards: increased storage for Pokémon, Items, Gifts and Postcards, plus avatar items from level 25 up to a Level 80 Jacket. The free Daily Adventure Egg starts at level 15.
The Biggest XP Sources
XP comes from almost everything, but a few actions dwarf the rest. Pokémon GO Hub's long-standing XP table gives these base values (events can raise them):
- Catching: 100 XP per catch, plus 500 for a new Pokédex entry. Throw bonuses add 10 for a Nice, 50 for a Great and 100 for an Excellent, and a first-throw catch adds 50.
- Evolving: 500 XP per evolution.
- Raids: 3,000 for one-star up to 10,000 for five-star.
- Friendship level-ups: 3,000 for Good, 10,000 for Great, 50,000 for Ultra and 100,000 for Best Friends.
- Eggs: 200 for 2 km, 500 for 5 km and 1,000 for 10 km.
- Streaks: 2,000 each for seven-day catch and PokéStop streaks.
Two newer sources beat most of those. Serebii lists Max Battle XP at 5,000 for one-star, 7,500 for two- and three-star, and 25,000 for five- and six-star battles, with 2,500 more for playing locally. And the Daily Adventure Egg from the leveling update hatches after 1 km of exploring and gives 10,000 XP; it goes into its own Incubator automatically on your first login each day, and you can only hold one, so hatching it daily is free XP you lose if you skip a day.
Put those numbers side by side and the priorities become obvious. One five-star Max Battle at 25,000 XP is worth the same as 250 ordinary catches at 100 XP each, and a single Best Friend level-up at 100,000 XP equals 200 evolutions at 500 XP. A week of Daily Adventure Eggs alone adds 70,000 XP, and the seven-day catch and PokéStop streak bonuses add another 4,000 for barely any extra effort. Catching still matters, because it feeds Candy for evolutions and keeps streaks alive, but if your playtime is limited, spend it on the actions at the top of that scale and let catching fill the gaps. Excellent throws are the one catching habit worth practicing deliberately, since they add 100 XP on top of each catch and show up in many research tasks.
Running a Lucky Egg Session
A Lucky Egg doubles all XP for 30 minutes, so the goal is to pack as many high-value actions as possible into that half hour. Here is the order most efficient players use.

- Bank evolutions in advance. Save Candy and keep Pokémon ready to evolve, especially species you have never evolved, since each new entry doubles the reward. Our Eevee evolution guide is a good example: eight different evolutions, each a potential new Pokédex entry, all from one Candy pool.
- Line up friendship level-ups. Check which friends are one interaction away from Ultra or Best Friends and coordinate with them to exchange Gifts or trade during your egg. A single Best Friend level-up under a Lucky Egg is worth 200,000 XP.
- Add a raid or Max Battle. If a five-star raid or Max Battle is running near you, start it inside the egg window for doubled XP on the biggest single rewards in the game.
- Fill the gaps with catching. Between evolutions, keep catching and aim for Excellent throws; every action is doubled.
- Do not start the egg until everything is ready. Thirty minutes goes fast, and the most common waste is popping the egg and then spending ten minutes sorting storage.
Lucky Eggs are sold on the Web Store and in the shop, and they also turn up in pass rewards: the free track of this month's GO Pass: November includes one, so you do not need to buy it to try this.
November 2026 XP Opportunities
This month's events include several XP boosts worth planning around. All of these come from the official announcements:
- Into the Wild (November 9 to 13): the GO Pass Deluxe's Rank 1 bonus adds 5,000 XP to every raid and Max Battle you win. Five-star raids feature Crowned Sword Zacian and Crowned Shield Zamazenta, and five-star Max Battles feature Registeel, Regidrago, Latias and Latios.
- GO Pass: November (through December 1): Tier 4 at Rank 75 gives increased Stardust and XP from hatching Eggs.
- Dynamax Trails (November 16 to 23) and Eternatus day (November 21): 25,000 XP per five-star Max Battle, with more Power Spots and an 8x particle bonus during the Eternatus period. Our Dynamax and Max Battles guide explains how to join and what it costs.
- Pawniard Community Day (November 21): Eggs hatch at one quarter the distance and Incense lasts three hours, which makes it an excellent day to clear Eggs and catch in bulk. Our Community Day guide lists every bonus.
- Clefable Super Mega Raid Day (November 28): the optional ticket adds 5,000 XP from each Super Mega Raid during the event, and free Raid Passes from Gym Photo Discs help you run several.
If raids are your main XP engine, a stronger team means faster wins and more raids per session. Our best raid attackers guide shows which Pokémon to build first.
Getting Through Levels 71 to 80
Above level 70, XP alone is not enough. Each level from 71 to 80 has Level-Up Research that must be completed alongside the XP requirement. Because tasks can include different activities, the smartest approach is to read each level's tasks as soon as you unlock them and fold them into your normal play rather than grinding XP first and discovering a task you have not started.
Leek Duck's breakdown of the update lists avatar rewards on the way up: shoes at level 71, shades at 73, pants at 75, a pose at 77, two hairstyle options at 79, and the Level 80 Jacket at the top. The old Level 50 Jacket can no longer be earned through leveling, though players who already have it keep it. The update also gave Trainers at level 70 and above a higher chance of becoming Lucky Friends with Best Friends, which means more Lucky trades and a 12/12/12 IV floor on the Pokémon you receive.
Mistakes That Waste XP
- Skipping the Daily Adventure Egg. You can only hold one, so a missed day is 10,000 XP gone.
- Evolving without a Lucky Egg. Unless you need the Pokémon right away, hold evolutions for an egg session.
- Letting friendships stall. Ultra and Best Friend level-ups are among the largest single rewards, and they only arrive if you keep interacting with those friends regularly.
- Ignoring Max Battles. At up to 25,000 XP each before any multiplier, they outpace five-star raids.
- Looking for shortcuts that break the rules. Location spoofing and modified third-party software are both listed as cheating in the Scopely Explore Terms of Service, and the Terms add that the apps may not work on devices suspected of cheating. Bots and auto-catchers fall in the same category. None of them are worth risking a long-running account.
Want a Higher-Level Starting Point?
Reaching the 70s takes most players years. Some instead browse the account listings on our Pokémon GO page, supplied by third-party sellers and updated daily, many of which advertise their Trainer level. Check the operator's rules before going that route: the Scopely Explore Terms of Service, last modified July 15, 2026, name selling or trading accounts as cheating.
If you prefer to earn it, schedule one Lucky Egg session per week around this month's events and keep hatching that daily egg.
