As of November 2026 there are two Ghost skins in Modern Warfare 4: the base "Ghost" Operator that comes with the Vault Edition's Hostile Alliance Operator Pack, and the gold-and-black "Golden Wraith" skin in the Season 1 Bone Chiller II Store bundle. Ghost is not one of the free campaign, DMZ or Multiplayer challenge unlocks, so one of those two paid routes is the only way to play as him right now.
We checked this against Activision's Operators and Create-a-Class post, the Vault Edition details, the Season 1 Battle Pass and Store intel from November 5, and the Warzone Operator toggle post, in November 2026.
The Vault Edition Ghost
Infinity Ward's launch Operator list has 33 Operators, and each one shows how it unlocks. Ghost's entry reads simply "Unlocked: Via Modern Warfare 4 Vault Edition." He comes as part of the Hostile Alliance Operator Pack, which gives Vault owners Price, Valeria, Ghost and Blix at launch; Price and Valeria also get masked and unmasked variants.

If you bought the Digital Standard Edition, you can upgrade to the Vault Edition later. Activision lists the upgrade at $30 US suggested retail price (or the regional equivalent), and the Season 1 intel adds one condition: the upgrade has to be made on the same platform as your original purchase. Besides the Hostile Alliance pack, the Vault Edition also covers Season 1 BlackCell and Battle Pass content, provided you log in during Season 1. Our older MW4 editions comparison lists everything else the Vault Edition adds.
A quirk worth knowing for anyone reading the Operator menu: Activision lists Ghost under the South Korean Quick Reaction Force faction in the launch roster, alongside Price. That is just how the game groups launch Operators for Multiplayer and DMZ, not a story statement.
Golden Wraith: The Season 1 Store Skin
The second skin arrived with Season 1 on November 6. Activision's Store highlights describe the Tracer Pack: Bone Chiller II Mastercraft Ultra Skin Bundle with the line "Ghost is out for vengeance," built around black and gold skull-themed cosmetics. The full bundle contents are:
- "Golden Wraith" Operator Skin for Ghost
- "Regalis" Patriot XMR assault rifle Blueprint
- "Aurum" Hyeon Burst assault rifle Blueprint
- "Auric" FiNN LMG Blueprint
- "You're Done" Finishing Move, "Visage" Weapon Charm and "Cryptic" Reticle
- "Phantom Ride" Vehicle Skin, "Gone Loud" animated Calling Card, "Dipped" animated Emblem and "Fortune's Fate" Loading Screen
- DMZ extras: a "SERE Kit" Survival Kit, an additional Active Duty Operator slot and the "Free Revive Pro" Prestige Trait
Activision's post does not list a COD Point price for the bundle, and it does not spell out whether buying it unlocks Ghost as an Operator for players who do not own the Vault Edition. Check the in-game Store listing before you buy if that matters to you, and read the bundle's item list on the console you play on.
DMZ+ Perks Attached to Each Ghost Skin
Season 1 introduced DMZ+ Operators: certain skins, from the Vault Edition or specific Store bundles, carry a Permanent Prestige Trait in DMZ. Both Ghost skins are on that list, and they carry different traits.

- Vault Edition "Ghost" skin: Field Crafting Pro, which lets you craft items directly from Common printer resources while deployed and halves the resource cost of each craft. Blix's Vault skin shares this trait.
- "Golden Wraith" skin: Free Revive Pro, which automatically repairs your first Wound and lets you tourniquet while Wounded. Price and Valeria's Vault skins carry the same trait.
The rules are strict. The trait belongs to the specific purchased skin, not to Ghost in general, so switching from Golden Wraith to another Ghost skin removes Free Revive Pro. A DMZ Operator can never hold more than three Prestige Traits at once; if Ghost already has three earned traits, you must swap one out to use the skin's trait. Earned Prestige Traits, by contrast, apply to every skin you own for that Operator.
Choosing Between the Two Ghost Options
The two routes are not really competing products, because they bundle very different things around the same character. A quick way to decide:
- Pick the Vault upgrade if you also want Price, Valeria and Blix, and if you were going to buy the Season 1 Battle Pass anyway. The Vault Edition includes Season 1 BlackCell and Battle Pass content as long as you log in during the season, so for a lot of players the Ghost skin is effectively a side benefit of something they planned to pay for.
- Pick Bone Chiller II if you specifically want the skull-and-gold look, the three Blueprints and the finishing move, or an extra Active Duty Operator slot for DMZ. Check first that it unlocks the Operator on your account if you do not own the Vault Edition.
- For DMZ, compare the traits. Field Crafting Pro suits players who loot printer resources and want to craft mid-deployment at half cost. Free Revive Pro suits aggressive players who take fights early, since it repairs the first Wound automatically and lets you tourniquet while Wounded.
Owning both is possible, and then the choice becomes per deployment: equip the skin whose trait fits the run, remembering that the trait is lost the moment you swap to the other skin. Earned Prestige Traits stay with Ghost whichever skin he wears, so the DMZ+ trait only adds to what you have already built on him, within the three-trait limit.
Multiplayer players do not need to weigh traits at all. There, both skins are purely cosmetic, and the choice is only about which look you prefer on your loadout's Operator slot, which you can set separately for each class.
Ghost in Warzone and the Skin Toggle
Warzone moved onto MW4 with Season 1, and Activision's carry-forward plan keeps Operators, Operator Skins and Weapon Blueprints from Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 usable in Warzone. In other words, Ghost skins you already own from those games still work in Warzone. Activision's announcement covers Warzone specifically; it does not say legacy skins carry into MW4 Multiplayer or DMZ.
There is a catch for show-offs. Warzone now has an Operator Skin toggle, off by default, that lets each player replace any non-MW4 Operator or skin they see with an MW4 Operator in their own game. Your own equipped skin never changes on your screen, but players with the toggle on will see an MW4 Operator in place of your older Ghost. The MW4 Ghost skins are unaffected, since they belong to this game. For everything else that changed with the season, see our Season 1 overview.
Not the Same Ghost: Perks, Prestige and Story
Searches for a Ghost skin often turn up things with the same name that are not skins at all:
- The Ghost perk: a Perk 1 option unlocked at Player Level 24 that keeps you off enemy UAVs, portable radars, heartbeat sensors and callouts. It is also on the Collateral buy menu.
- "Ghosts Legend" Blueprints: Prestige 6 is themed on Call of Duty: Ghosts (2013), and its final reward is an Axion assault rifle Blueprint called "Ghosts Legend" on the Regular track or "Ghosts Legend Prime" on the Classic track.
- Ghost the character: Lt. Simon "Ghost" Riley appears in the campaign, voiced by Samuel Roukin, and in Season 1 he is the Watcher guiding squads through DMZ's X01 facility.
In the campaign trailer Activision released at Tokyo Game Show, Ghost and Gaz are tasked with capturing or killing their former captain, Price. Who voices the rest of the cast, and where you may know them from, is in our MW4 cast guide. For how Ghost's DMZ role fits next to the new modes, our game modes guide has the overview.
Free Operators You Can Unlock Instead
If you do not want to pay for Ghost, the launch roster has plenty of free alternatives. Eight Operators unlock by finishing specific campaign missions: Cho ("Mayhem"), Dallas ("Hired Gun"), Luca ("Traffic"), Oh-Ji ("Assassins"), Kal ("Defection"), Dunn ("Counter Attack"), West ("Losing Ground") and Park ("Decapitation"). Four more unlock in DMZ at Player Levels 4, 9, 15 and 19 (Reece, Coffey, Simone and Hector), and Multiplayer challenges unlock Blackwell, Jae, Velikan, Valen and Zimo.
The Season 1 Battle Pass adds more skins, including a ghillie-suited "Nocturn" look for Oh-Ji at Tier 10, which scratches a similar stealthy itch. Every tier is listed in our Battle Pass guide.
Unlocking the Campaign Operators
Ghost himself is not part of any service, because he is tied to the Vault Edition or a Store purchase. What can be done for you is the free campaign roster. The store's MW4 campaign completion service plays through the whole campaign on your account on the difficulty you pick (any, Veteran or Realism), which unlocks the eight campaign Operators listed above plus a Calling Card, Emblem, Loading Screen, three Double XP tokens and two Double Weapon XP tokens.
It is done by hand after you share your login, with delivery listed at 12 to 48 hours on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC or Switch 2. Other services, from camos to Prestige, are on the Modern Warfare 4 hub.
