Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel Banlist: November 2026 Changes

Yu-Gi-Oh! YouTube thumbnail: THE NEW MASTER DUEL BANLIST IS HERE AND ITS AS EXPECTED

The current Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel banlist is the Forbidden and Limited List that took effect on November 5, 2026. It Forbids Spell Canceller, Dracotail Phryxul, Go! - D/D/D Divine Zero King Rage and Protector of the Sanctuary, cuts Elfnote Tinia, Elfnote Power Patron, Kewl Tune Reco and Kewl Tune Mix to one copy each, and brings Premature Burial back at one copy. Below is every change, what each card did, how the last three lists built up to this one, and what to do with the cards you can no longer play.

We confirmed the list against Master Duel Meta's announcement articles for the September, October and November 2026 lists and its live tier list summary, with card text from the YGOPRODeck database and format rules from Yugipedia, all checked on November 6, 2026.

Every Change on the November 5, 2026 List

KONAMI announced this update on October 26, 2026, and it went live with the November 5 maintenance, the same day the Majestic Vortex Selection Pack arrived. It is a short list, nine cards in total, but it lands directly on the decks at the top of the ladder.

Master Duel Forbidden and Limited List changes effective November 5, 2026 (copies allowed before and after)
CardBeforeAfter
Spell Canceller30 (Forbidden)
Dracotail Phryxul30 (Forbidden)
Go! - D/D/D Divine Zero King Rage30 (Forbidden)
Protector of the Sanctuary30 (Forbidden)
Elfnote Tinia31 (Limited)
Elfnote Power Patron31 (Limited)
Kewl Tune Reco21 (Limited)
Kewl Tune Mix21 (Limited)
Premature Burial01 (Limited)

No cards were moved to Semi-Limited or fully released this time. The list is entirely restrictions, apart from one card returning from Forbidden.

Why Each Card Was Hit

The changes fall into two groups. The first targets the decks that were winning; the second removes cards that lock opponents out of the game.

  • Elfnote Power Patron is a Tuner that, during the Main Phase as a Quick Effect, raises the Level of the monster in your center Main Monster Zone by 3 and then lets you Synchro Summon an Elfnote Synchro Monster immediately. It also searches an Elfnote card when used as Synchro Material. Along with Elfnote Tinia, it powered the Elfnote Engine, the top deck on Master Duel Meta's tier list with a power score of 19.0.
  • Kewl Tune Reco and Kewl Tune Mix drop to one copy, joining Kewl Tune Cue, which was cut to one a month earlier. The Kewl Tune Engine sat second on the tier list at 12.0.
  • Dracotail Phryxul revived another Dracotail from the Graveyard when it was Summoned, then Set a Dracotail Spell or Trap from the Deck when used as Fusion Material. A Dracotail deck sat at global rank 1 among the publicly shared lists from the October 2026 Duelist Cup.
  • Spell Canceller stops Spell Cards from being activated and negates Spell effects on the field.
  • Protector of the Sanctuary stops the opponent from drawing outside the Draw Phase, which shuts off many draw effects and hand traps such as Maxx "C".
  • Go! - D/D/D Divine Zero King Rage could, by Tributing another monster, stop the opponent from activating effects in their hand or Graveyard, or cards in their Spell and Trap Zones, for the rest of the turn.

How the Last Three Lists Built Up to This One

Master Duel updated its list three months running in autumn 2026, and reading them together shows the pressure on the same few decks.

  • September 3, 2026: Called by the Grave was Forbidden, Dracotail Mululu and Ketu Dracotail went to two copies, and Tearlaments Havnis was fully released from one copy to three.
  • October 6, 2026: Radiant Typhoon Eldam and The Fallen & The Virtuous went to two copies, Kewl Tune Cue and Radiant Typhoon Vision to one, and PSY-Framelord Omega, Dimension Shifter and Synchro Overtake were Forbidden.
  • November 5, 2026: the nine changes above.

Dracotail has now been hit on two consecutive lists, Kewl Tune on two, and Radiant Typhoon was targeted in October. That pattern suggests KONAMI is adjusting step by step rather than deleting decks in one go, which is useful to know before you dismantle anything: a deck that was trimmed twice is usually still playable, just less dominant.

How Master Duel's List Works

Master Duel does not simply copy the paper game's list. Yugipedia describes it as a modified version of the OCG Forbidden and Limited List that changes with the game's own updates, which is why Master Duel's dates and cards often differ from the TCG and OCG announcements you see in card shops. A few other rules are worth knowing:

  • Ranked and the Duelist Cup use the current list. Yugipedia notes that Duelist Cups and WCS Qualifiers are the only events without extra deckbuilding restrictions, so they follow whatever list is in force. The next Duelist Cup runs from December 9 to December 21, 2026.
  • Events can have their own lists. Festivals use special rules and sometimes their own Forbidden and Limited lists, so a card that is Forbidden in Ranked might be legal in an event, or the reverse.
  • Some Forbidden cards can still be crafted. Since September 30, 2022, a rotating pool of Forbidden cards can be crafted for the Unlimited format in Duel Rooms, and that pool updates monthly.

The official in-game card statistics also give a view of what the list is reacting to. In the snapshot Master Duel Meta published from the November 5 maintenance, Elfnote Power Patron appeared in 35.4% of decks at the highest rank, up from 13.1% a month earlier, a jump that explains why it was cut so hard.

When to Expect the Next List

KONAMI does not publish a fixed calendar for Master Duel list changes, but the autumn 2026 pattern is consistent. Each list was announced roughly one to two weeks ahead and went live with a monthly maintenance: announced around August 30 for September 3, on September 24 for October 6, and on October 26 for November 5. Each of those maintenance days also brought a new Selection Pack, such as Arising of the Apocalypse in October and Majestic Vortex in November.

As of November 6, 2026, Master Duel Meta's news feed shows no announcement of a December list, so the November 5 list is the one that applies for now. If the pattern holds, any next change would be announced in the second half of the month ahead of the early December maintenance, but that is a reading of past timing, not a confirmed date. Watch the in-game Notifications screen, which is where KONAMI posts each update first, before committing Craft Points to a deck that has been hit two months running.

What to Do With Cards You Can No Longer Play

Master Duel softens a list change with a dismantle bonus. Break down a card whose playable copies were reduced within one month of the change, and you get 20 extra Craft Points of its rarity for each copy that is no longer legal. That window is open right now for the November 5 list.

  • Forbidden cards: if you do not use the Unlimited format, dismantling all three copies collects the full bonus.
  • Limited cards: keep the one copy you can still play and dismantle the extras.
  • Premature Burial: it went up, not down, so there is no bonus. If you dismantled it earlier, it is now worth crafting a single copy back only if your deck relies on reviving one key monster.

Before you break anything down, remember that lists move both ways. Premature Burial and Tearlaments Havnis both came back this autumn. Our guide to earning and spending Craft Points walks through the bonus amounts card by card.

One more practical step: open each of your saved decks after the maintenance. A deck that now contains too many copies of a Limited card, or any Forbidden card, no longer fits the list that Ranked follows, and it is easy to forget an old Kewl Tune or Dracotail build sitting in one of your 20 deck slots until you queue with it.

What Happens to the Meta Next

With Elfnote, Kewl Tune and Dracotail all trimmed, the decks that escaped untouched stand to gain. Invoked, which took second place in the October Duelist Cup, and Artmage, which sits in Tier 2, had no cards changed. Our Master Duel meta decks breakdown tracks how the tier list shifts as post-list tournament results come in. The usage report also hints at how players were preparing: Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit climbed from 15.6% to 60.1% of high-rank decks in a month while Droll & Lock Bird fell from 80.3% to 65.6%, so expect hand trap choices to keep shifting as the top decks change shape. If you plan to pivot to a new deck, the new Secret Packs and updates from November 5 are a good place to start, and our guide to unlocking Secret Packs explains how to time your purchases.

Players who also play the mobile Speed Duel game should note that none of this applies there. Duel Links uses a different format with 20 to 30 card decks and 4,000 LP, and our Master Duel versus Duel Links comparison covers how differently the two games handle the card pool.

If You Would Rather Not Rebuild

A list change can turn a finished deck into a project overnight. Some players would rather start from a bigger collection than craft their way back, and the store's Yu-Gi-Oh! hub lists Master Duel accounts posted by independent sellers, each describing its own decks, Gems and Craft Points, with listings refreshed daily. Bear in mind that KONAMI's Terms of Use for Master Duel ban real money trading, which covers converting Account IDs, data or in-game items into cash.

Frequently Asked Questions

When was the last Master Duel banlist update?

The current list took effect on November 5, 2026, after KONAMI announced it on October 26. The two before it took effect on October 6 and September 3, 2026.

Is Called by the Grave banned in Master Duel?

Yes. Called by the Grave was moved from one copy to Forbidden on the list that took effect on September 3, 2026.

Is the Master Duel banlist the same as the TCG?

No. Master Duel uses its own modified version of the OCG list and updates it on its own schedule, so the cards and dates often differ from the TCG and OCG lists.

Do I get Craft Points back for banned cards?

Yes, if you dismantle them within a month of the change. You receive 20 bonus CP of the card's rarity for each copy that is no longer playable, on top of the normal dismantle value.

Can I still use Forbidden cards anywhere?

In the Unlimited format in Duel Rooms. Some Forbidden cards can even be crafted for it, from a pool that updates monthly.

Is Premature Burial legal in Master Duel?

Yes, at one copy. It returned from the Forbidden list as a Limited card on November 5, 2026.
