To unlock a Secret Pack in Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel, obtain any Super Rare or Ultra Rare card from that pack's featured list, either by pulling it from a pack or by crafting it with Craft Points, and the pack opens in the shop for 24 hours. Clearing the matching Solo Mode Gate also opens it for a day, and brand-new or newly updated Secret Packs are open to everyone for about a month. Since the October 2026 app update, the game even tells you which cards act as keys.

We checked the unlock rules against Yugipedia's Secret Pack and Solo Mode pages and confirmed the November 2026 pack changes and the new key-card feature in Master Duel Meta's coverage of the v2.9.0 update and the November 5 maintenance.

The Three Ways to Open a Secret Pack

Secret Packs are hidden by default once their launch window ends, which surprises many new players who see a deck online and cannot find its pack. There are three ways to get one back on the shelf, and each lasts 24 hours.

  1. Pull a key card from any pack. If a Super Rare or Ultra Rare in the Secret Pack's featured pool shows up in a Master Pack, a Selection Pack or another Secret Pack, you receive a key. A card that appears in several Secret Packs gives keys for all of them.
  2. Craft a key card. Generating one of those Super Rares or Ultra Rares with Craft Points also gives a key. The first time you unlock a given Secret Pack by crafting, you can open one pack from it for free.
  3. Clear the Solo Mode Gate. Completing the Gates related to an archetype unlocks the corresponding Secret Pack for 24 hours.

One detail that helps with planning: if a Secret Pack is already open when you obtain another key for it, the 24-hour timer resets rather than stacking. Pulling a key from inside the Secret Pack itself counts too, so a long opening session can keep the pack available as long as Super Rares and Ultra Rares keep landing.

Finding Out Which Cards Are Keys

Until recently, figuring out which card opened which pack meant checking a fan site. The v2.9.0 app update that Master Duel Meta covered on October 29, 2026 changed that. Selecting a locked Secret Pack on the How to Obtain screen now displays the list of Key Cards that can unlock it and shows whether each one can be generated with Craft Points.

That second piece of information matters. Some cards in the game cannot be crafted, including certain Structure Deck exclusives and any alternate or extended artwork, so the new list saves you from trying to craft a key that is not craftable. Look for the cheapest craftable key, which is usually a Super Rare, because spending 30 SR CP to open a pack costs far less than spending 30 UR CP.

The update also arrived alongside a large download, roughly 13 GB on PC and 5 GB on mobile because of a Unity engine version change, so make sure your install is current if you do not see the new screen.

What You Get Inside a Secret Pack

All Secret Packs cost 100 Gems each, like most packs in the game. A Secret Pack is themed around one or more archetypes and pulls from a featured pool of 40 cards or fewer, plus a share of the general Master Pack pool.

  • Eight cards per pack: the first four always come from the Master Pack, and the last four from the Secret Pack's featured list.
  • Rarity floor: the eighth card of every pack is Rare or better.
  • Ten-pack bonus: buying ten at once makes the eighth card of the tenth pack Super Rare or better, and if a ten-pack purchase yields no Ultra Rare, the next ten-pack purchase of the same pack upgrades that slot to Ultra Rare.
  • Base odds per card: 2.5% Ultra Rare, 7.5% Super Rare, 35% Rare and 55% Common.

Because half of each pack is themed, a Secret Pack is the most efficient random product for building a specific deck. Always buy in groups of ten to take advantage of the tenth-pack rule, and plan your 24-hour window around having at least 1,000 Gems ready. If you are short, our rundown of free Gem sources in Master Duel shows where to find them.

Secret Packs Open to Everyone in November 2026

New and updated packs are the exception to the key system. Yugipedia notes that newly introduced or newly updated Secret Packs are freely available for about a month before they hide again.

  • The Invisible Hand Delivers Salvation launched on November 5, 2026 and is open without a key until December 4, 2026. It is a Hecahands pack with 30 featured cards, including 5 Ultra Rares such as Hecahands Jauzah, Nightmare Apprentice, Change of Heart, Snatch Steal and The Hidden Hecahands.
  • Darkest Magics added Dark Magician, the Pharaoh's Servant, Dark Magical Curtain and Kuriboh - Multiply! on November 5.
  • Seekers of Witchcraft added eight Witchcrafter cards on the same day, including Witchcrafter Madame Rilliona.

Until January 8, the Pharaoh's Servant, Dark Magical Curtain, Witchcrafter Madame Verre, Witchcrafter Vice-Madame and Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon also come in extended art when pulled from the applicable packs. If you were planning to build one of these themes, this is the cheapest month to do it.

Cards Leaving Packs on November 24

Secret Packs are not permanent lists. KONAMI announced that several packs will lose cards on November 24, 2026, among them Stardust Ties, Synchro Mode Change, Evoked Dragon of Miracles, The Trap in the Wicked Castle, Sinful Serpent's Stare and Scrap Iron Soldiers. Sinful Serpent's Stare, for example, loses its entire run of Evol cards, and Evoked Dragon of Miracles loses Stardust Dragon and much of its Stardust support.

Removal only takes a card out of that themed pack. Most cards can still be crafted, and the Master Pack and Legacy Pack together hold the vast majority of the game's card pool, but your odds of pulling a removed card from a focused pack drop to zero. If you are mid-way through building one of those decks, finish your openings before November 24.

Secret Packs Versus Selection Packs

Players often confuse the two because both cost 100 Gems and both contain eight cards. The difference is in what they draw from and how long they last. A Selection Pack is a limited-time product that carries newly added cards, usually stays in the shop for no more than two months, and draws all eight cards from its own list. Once it expires, it never returns, though its new cards move into the Master Pack and can be crafted.

The current one, Majestic Vortex, runs from November 5, 2026 to January 8, 2027 and has 85 featured cards, 13 of them Ultra Rare. That is more than double the size of a typical Secret Pack's featured pool, so each pack is less focused on any single theme. Selection Packs are the place to go for brand-new cards such as Dark Magician, the Pharaoh's Servant; Secret Packs are better once you know exactly which deck you are building.

The shop also sells limited bundles that mix the two ideas. Until December 4, 2026, a Dark Magician, the Pharaoh's Servant accessory bundle sells 20 Majestic Vortex packs with at least two Ultra Rares promised, plus icons, protectors and wallpapers, for 2,600 Gems. Bundles like that can be good value if you want both the cosmetics and the new cards, but they do not unlock anything by themselves; any Super Rare or Ultra Rare they produce still has to be on a Secret Pack's featured list to act as a key.

A Simple Unlock Plan

  1. Pick the deck you want and check where it sits among the current Master Duel meta decks, so you are not building into something that was just hit.
  2. Save at least 1,000 Gems for one ten-pack purchase, ideally 2,000 for two.
  3. Open the locked pack on the How to Obtain screen and choose the cheapest craftable key, usually a Super Rare you would play anyway.
  4. Craft it, claim the free pack if this is your first crafted key for that Secret Pack, then buy in tens.
  5. Dismantle duplicates afterwards and craft the remaining gaps. Our guide to earning and spending Craft Points explains which spares to break down first.

New players can skip the crafting step entirely for any theme with a Solo Mode Gate. Clear the Gate on the day you are ready to buy, and the pack opens for free. The Master Duel beginner path explains how the Gates are laid out.

Skipping the Pack Grind

Even with good timing, filling out a meta deck from Secret Packs can take thousands of Gems and several unlock windows. Players who want to start further ahead can browse the store's Yu-Gi-Oh! hub, which lists Master Duel accounts from independent sellers, each describing its own decks, Gems and Craft Points, with listings that change daily. As a point of reference, KONAMI's Master Duel Terms of Use prohibit real money trading of accounts and in-game items, including converting Account IDs or data into cash.
