Lords of the Fallen Respec: How to Reset Your Stats

To respec in Lords of the Fallen, get a Rebirth Chrysalis (Molhu and Winterberry sell them for 8,000 Vigor each, and a couple can be found in the world), then talk to Pieta at Skyrest Bridge and choose to reset your build. You then reassign every level point from scratch, with one limit: no attribute can drop below the value your starting class gave it. The Chrysalis is only used up once you confirm the new spread, so you can back out without losing it if you change your mind.

We verified the process against Fextralife's respec, Mirror of Distortion and progress route pages, CI Games' official beginner tips and the April 2026 Co-op Update notes, all checked in November 2026.

How to Respec, Step by Step

Respeccing needs two things: the item and the NPC. Pieta, the first main boss, becomes a friendly NPC in Skyrest Bridge after you defeat her, and she handles both Sanguinarix upgrades and stat resets. The nearest Vestige to her is the Vestige of Ethryg.

  1. Obtain a Rebirth Chrysalis. The fastest route is buying one from Molhu at Skyrest Bridge for 8,000 Vigor.
  2. Rest at the Vestige of Ethryg and walk to Pieta in Skyrest Bridge.
  3. Talk to her and choose the reset option (Fextralife lists it as "Reset Build").
  4. Your level points are cleared. Spend them again until you reach your current character level; you cannot leave points unassigned.
  5. Answer "Yes" to the confirmation prompt. Only now is the Chrysalis consumed.

That last step is a nice safety net. If you open the menu, start reallocating and realize you have not planned the build properly, backing out before you confirm keeps the Chrysalis in your inventory. Take a screenshot of your current stats before you start so you can compare.

Where to Get a Rebirth Chrysalis

The in-game description calls it "a chrysalis of Umbral origin", used to reassign existing player level points. The developers describe it as rare in the world, but you have several reliable sources.

  • Molhu, Skyrest Bridge: 8,000 Vigor. Fextralife's shop table shows the Chrysalis joining his stock once you hand him the Bowl of Revelations from Pilgrim's Perch, and CI Games' tips note that you reach Molhu by crossing into the Umbral realm at Skyrest Bridge.
  • Winterberry: also 8,000 Vigor. You first find this merchant in the tunnels of Revelation Depths, reached after you take the Drainage Control Key from the Skinstealer and lower the water level in the Cistern. Completing Byron's quest, The Missing Pendant, moves Winterberry and Byron to Skyrest Bridge.
  • Fief of the Chill Curse: one Chrysalis sits inside an Umbral Belly in the nest-like area of the Fief; soulflay the belly to collect it.
  • Tower of Penance: another one can be found in this area.
  • Shrine of the Putrid Mother: an unlimited number becomes available only if the wider community has contributed enough Plucked Eyeballs to reach the shrine's Tier 2 stock.

Plucked Eyeballs come from avenging other players. When you see a red lantern marking where someone died, soulflay it and follow the red moths to the killer; defeating it earns Plucked Eyeballs for the shrine. That makes the Putrid Mother route a long-term option rather than a quick fix, so most players simply buy from Molhu.

Rules and Limits to Know Before You Reset

The system is generous, but a few rules shape what you can do with it. The most important is the class floor.

  • No stat below its class value. Every attribute keeps at least the number your starting class gave it. A Pyric Cultist keeps 18 Inferno forever, and an Orian Preacher keeps 18 Radiance.
  • All points must be spent. You rebuild up to your current level; a respec never refunds Vigor or lowers your level.
  • Gear is untouched. A respec only changes your level points. Weapons, armor, rings and upgrades stay as they are.
  • Co-op guests can use it. Since the April 2026 Co-op Update, guests can use a Rebirth Chrysalis under both Full and Limited Privileges, and the same update fixed a bug that multiplied a character's level after using one in co-op.

The class floor is why your starting class choice still matters even with free respecs. If you expect to end up as a pure Strength fighter, starting as a caster leaves 18 points stranded in a stat you will never use. The Condemned, with 9 in everything, has the least stranded value of any class.

When a Respec Is Worth the Vigor

At 8,000 Vigor per Chrysalis, a respec is affordable in the mid-game but not something to do on a whim early on. Fextralife suggests three situations where it pays off, and the patch history adds a fourth.

  • Before a specific boss. Some bosses are much easier with a certain damage type or playstyle. You can respec into, say, a Radiance setup for one fight and respec back afterward.
  • At the start of New Game Plus. Your items carry over, so it is a natural moment to try a different playstyle without starting a new character.
  • To fix early mistakes. New players often spread points thinly. A single reset puts everything where it belongs.
  • After a balance patch. The October 2025 update (v2.0.101) lowered stat requirements on several spells, raised mana gains from each Radiance and Inferno level and buffed every Umbral spell. Many melee characters can now add useful magic with a modest reassignment.

Saving up 8,000 Vigor is harder than it sounds, because you drop what you carry when you die. CI Games' tips suggest banking Vigor by buying Vigor Skulls from Molhu in the Umbral version of Skyrest, which turns loose Vigor into an item you can consume later. Fextralife's shop table lists the Seething Vigor Skull at 3,000 Vigor and the Replete Vigor Skull at 6,000, so a pair of purchases protects most of a Chrysalis while you finish an area.

Respeccing is also the cleanest way to move between the archetypes in our best builds guide, since each has a very different stat target.

Planning Your New Stat Spread

A respec is only as good as the plan behind it. Before you talk to Pieta, write down the requirements of the weapon, catalyst and spells you intend to use, then work backward.

  1. Cover the requirements first. Weapons and catalysts list minimum stats. Hit those numbers, then put the rest into the scaling stat with the best letter grade, where S is the strongest and E the weakest.
  2. Keep survival stats healthy. CI Games recommends Vitality and Endurance early for every character, and the same logic applies after a reset.
  3. Check rune slots. Rune slot shapes match Strength, Agility, Radiance or Inferno. If you move from a Strength build to Agility, your existing weapon's slots may no longer match the runes you want, so plan the weapon swap together with the stats.
  4. Think about upgrades. Upgrade materials are scarce at the high end, so a new build that needs a different weapon also needs Deralium to bring it up to speed. Our weapon upgrade guide lists what each tier costs in materials.

That last point is one area the sequel is changing. In its November 2026 Lifting the Veil episode, CI Games said Lords of the Fallen II will let players recover weapon upgrades for a small cost to encourage switching weapons late in the game. The 2023 game has no such refund, so choose your upgrade targets carefully.

Changing Your Look Instead: The Mirror of Distortion

A Rebirth Chrysalis does not touch your appearance. For that, the game has the Mirror of Distortion in Skyrest Bridge, added in December 2023 with the Trial of the Three Spirits update (v1.1.414). Once unlocked, it lets you change body shape, gender, skin tone, hair color, facial features and even your character's name.

  • Collect three Glass Shards from Umbral Bellies in Lower Calrath, Revelation Depths and the Sunless Skein; you soulflay each belly to get its shard, in any order.
  • Hand each shard to the empty mirror frame in Skyrest Bridge.
  • Buy the Renewal Knife from Molhu for 8,000 Vigor and use it on the completed mirror to reshape your character.

The Revelation Depths shard is just before the Harrower Dervla boss area: from the Vestige of Lost Berescu, follow the track toward the arena and soulflay the Umbral Belly to the right of the entrance. Note that guests in co-op cannot use the mirror; according to the official Co-op FAQ it is one of the actions reserved for the host. If you play with a partner, the co-op guide lists the other host-only actions.

Short on Vigor for a Respec?

Between Rebirth Chrysalises, the Renewal Knife and level-ups, Vigor goes quickly. If you would rather not farm it, the store's Vigor and armor service drops Vigor in game for you to pick up, with no account information required. The page lists PlayStation, Xbox and Steam, quotes same-day delivery after the store emails you, and also offers weapons, armor, amulets, rings and Umbral Eyes.

Modded saves and the other options are on the Lords of the Fallen hub.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a respec cost in Lords of the Fallen?

One Rebirth Chrysalis per reset. Molhu and Winterberry each sell them for 8,000 Vigor, and a few can be found in the world.

Where is Pieta for respec?

In Skyrest Bridge, after you defeat her as the first main boss. The closest Vestige is the Vestige of Ethryg.

Can you respec more than once?

Yes. Each reset uses one Chrysalis. You can buy more from Molhu and Winterberry, pick up the ones hidden in the world, and, if the community has unlocked the shrine's Tier 2, buy an unlimited supply at the Shrine of the Putrid Mother.

Can I lower a stat below my starting class value?

No. Each attribute stays at or above the number your class started with, which is why class choice still matters for min-maxing.

Does respeccing change my appearance?

No. Appearance and name changes use the Mirror of Distortion in Skyrest Bridge, unlocked with three Glass Shards and a Renewal Knife.

Can I respec while playing co-op?

You can, even as the guest in someone else's world. The host's privilege setting does not matter for this one action.
