Yes, Lords of the Fallen has full crossplay: players on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam and the Epic Games Store, including Steam Deck) can play co-op and PvP together. You connect across platforms by entering the same session password, and the game has no cross-progression, so your character stays on the platform where you created it. As of November 2026, that setup has been stable since the final Version 2.5 update.
We confirmed these details in the official Steam patch notes and developer journals from CI Games and Hexworks, the 2026 Co-op FAQ on the official Lords of the Fallen site, and the Fextralife online guide, all reviewed in November 2026.
Which Platforms Can Play Together
Lords of the Fallen (2023) released on 13 October 2023 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is no PS4 or Xbox One version; the developers' pre-launch FAQ listed Steam, Epic, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Steam Deck as the launch platforms. Every one of those can connect with every other.

- PS5 with Xbox Series X|S: supported.
- PS5 or Xbox with PC: supported, whether the PC copy is on Steam or Epic.
- Steam with Epic: supported; the 1.1.249 patch notes name both stores in the crossplay list.
- Steam Deck: supported, as part of the Steam version.
The game also joined PlayStation Plus on 7 April 2026, which brought a wave of new PS5 players into a pool that already mixed every platform. Keep in mind that playing online on PlayStation needs a PlayStation Plus membership, according to Fextralife's online guide.
How Crossplay Changed Since Launch
Crossplay in Lords of the Fallen did not arrive fully formed, which is why older articles and forum posts still give conflicting answers. Here is the timeline from the official patch notes.
- September 2023, before launch: the developers' FAQ and their co-op dev journal said crossplay would work between PC and console only, not between PlayStation and Xbox.
- 22 October 2023, patch 1.1.224: the team confirmed it was switching on crossplay between consoles first, with the plan to enable it on all platforms later that week once PC GPU stability was where they wanted it.
- 26 October 2023, the "Pumpkin" patch 1.1.249: full crossplay was reintroduced between Steam, Epic, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam Deck, using the session password in the multiplayer settings for both co-op and sparring PvP.
- 17 April 2025, Version 2.0: the overhaul that added Shared Progression co-op and the Free Friend's Pass listed full crossplay support via password matchmaking.
So if you read that PlayStation and Xbox players cannot meet, that information predates the October 2023 patches and is no longer accurate.
How to Connect With a Friend on Another Platform
Cross-platform play does not use your console friends list, because PlayStation, Xbox, Steam and Epic friends lists do not talk to each other. The password is the bridge.

- Check the Multiplayer tab of the settings. Fextralife lists three relevant options there: Toggle Online, Toggle Allow Crossplay and Session Password. Online must be on, and Allow Crossplay must be enabled on both machines.
- Agree on a password over chat or voice, something unique enough that a stranger will not type it by accident.
- Both players rest at a Vestige, choose Multiplayer and enter that password.
- Both select the same co-op mode, Shared Progression or standard, and the host beckons while the guest joins.
Our co-op guide covers what happens after you connect, including guest privileges and how shared loot works.
Which Modes Work Across Platforms
According to CI Games' Co-op FAQ, crossplay is supported through password matchmaking in most multiplayer modes, and it names three of them directly: Beckon Lampbearer (hosting a co-op partner), Join Session (joining as the guest) and Slaughter Lampbearer (invading).
- Co-op campaign: both Shared Progression and standard co-op work across platforms, with the usual rules on matching NG level and boss count for Shared Progression.
- Friendly duels: since launch, two friends can enter the same password while one steps into an invasion zone, and the other becomes the invader. Friend PvP does not give the same rewards as a real invasion.
- Free Friend's Pass: Version 2.0's notes say friends without the full game can join you across all platforms.
- Invasions: since update 2.0.51 in July 2025, invasions are optional and off by default, so mixed-platform PvP only happens for players who opt in.
The Free Friend's Pass deserves a closer look for mixed groups. It is a separate free download (on Steam it has its own store entry) that gives the newcomer the character creator and the full tutorial area solo. After that, they can follow a host who owns the full game through the entire campaign. Because it rides on the same password system, it is the easiest way to test whether a friend on another platform enjoys the game before they buy it. Just warn them about saving: CI Games' FAQ says pass progress may not be kept depending on the session type, and anything done after quitting to the main menu is not saved.
Cross-Platform PvP: Invasions and Duels
PvP uses the same mixed pool as co-op, so an invader can come from any platform once you opt in. If you do switch invasions back on, the developers have added reasons to fight. Update 2.0.51 introduced two PvP-only armor sets, the First Luminary Guardsman Armour for successful defenders and the Crimson Pursuivant Armour for victorious invaders, with pieces dropping at random. The same update promised every PvP victor one item from a short list: a Large Deralium Shard, a Deralium Chunk, a Heavenly Vial, a Vestige Moth or a Vigor Moth.
Balance between platforms is not an issue, but balance between levels was. The second-anniversary update (v2.0.101) reduced the excessive damage that high-level players dealt to low-level opponents, and the 2.5 update added usage caps to key consumables such as Heavenly Vials, ammunition and mana stones in PvP. Fextralife adds that matchmaking tries to pair players of similar level and widens the range the longer it searches.
One small detail helps co-op partners on different platforms: setting a session password blocks invasions for a short period after you connect, according to the Hexworks co-op journal, which gives you a moment to regroup before anyone can drop in.
No Cross-Progression or Cross-Save
Crossplay and cross-progression are different things, and Lords of the Fallen only has the first. Hexworks explained the reason in a September 2023 developer journal: supporting cross-progression would have meant requiring every player to create and log in to a Hexworks account, and the team wanted to avoid that extra step. We found no patch note since then that adds it, including the final 2.5 update.
In practice, that means a character you build on PS5 cannot be continued on PC, and buying the game a second time on another platform starts you from scratch. PC players do get Steam Cloud on the Steam version. If you plan to switch platforms, finish the run you care about first, or treat the new platform as a fresh start with a different class; our build guide is a good place to plan that second character.
Looking ahead, CI Games has said that Lords of the Fallen II will use Epic Online Services to power its cross-platform play, matchmaking, friends list and shared-progression co-op. Whether the sequel also adds cross-progression has not been stated; the sequel release guide tracks what has been confirmed so far.
Fixing Cross-Platform Connection Problems
Most failed connections across platforms come down to a mismatch somewhere. Work through this list before assuming a server problem.
- Allow Crossplay is off on one side. Both players need it enabled in the Multiplayer settings.
- Different co-op modes. One player on Shared Progression and the other on standard co-op will not match.
- Different difficulty modes. Since Version 2.5, Legacy and Veteran Mode players cannot connect to each other.
- Progress gap. For Shared Progression, you need the same NG level and a boss count within one of each other.
- Ping restrictions. CI Games' FAQ suggests checking whether ping limits are blocking the match, which matters more when friends live far apart.
- Typos in the password. It sounds obvious, but a single different character sends both players into separate matchmaking.
If both of you clear those checks, the remaining fixes are the usual ones: restart the game, confirm your platform's online service is running, and make sure both copies have installed the latest patch, which as of November 2026 is the 2.5.624 hotfix from September. A smoother co-op partner also makes the game noticeably easier; the difficulty guide explains how co-op fits with the game's other settings.
Want a Head Start Before You Team Up?
If you are joining a friend who is far ahead of you, catching up on gear and levels can take a while. The store's Lords of the Fallen section lists a Vigor and item drop service that covers PlayStation, Xbox and Steam and needs no account details, alongside modded saves that are applied through account share and support fewer platforms, so check each listing's platform line before ordering.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Lords of the Fallen cross platform between PS5 and Xbox?
Yes. Console-to-console crossplay was enabled in October 2023, and the 1.1.249 patch opened it across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Epic and Steam Deck.
Does Lords of the Fallen have cross-progression?
No. Hexworks chose not to require a separate account, so characters cannot move between platforms.
How do I invite a friend on a different platform?
Make sure Allow Crossplay is on, then both rest at a Vestige, open Multiplayer and enter the same session password with the same co-op mode selected.
Can I turn crossplay off?
Yes. The Multiplayer settings include an Allow Crossplay toggle, which Fextralife lists alongside the online and session password options.
Is Lords of the Fallen on PS4 or Xbox One?
No. The 2023 game launched only on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, so there is no last-generation version to connect with.
Does the Free Friend's Pass work with crossplay?
Yes. The Version 2.0 notes say friends without the full game can play the whole adventure with you across all platforms.
