How to Redeem a Fortnite V-Bucks Card on Every Platform

To redeem a V-Bucks card, open fortnite.com/vbuckscard in a browser, sign in to the Epic account you play Fortnite on, enter the PIN from the back of the card without dashes, choose your platform and confirm. On PC, Nintendo Switch and mobile the V-Bucks are added right away, while PlayStation and Xbox players receive a second code that has to be entered on Sony's or Microsoft's website. If your card says Fortnite Gift Card instead, it follows a different process on a different page, covered further down.

We checked these steps in November 2026 against Epic's help articles on redeeming V-Bucks cards, invalid card codes, Fortnite gift cards and the Shared Wallet, Nintendo's UK support page for Switch redemption, and Game Developer's report on how the March 2026 price change treats existing cards.

Three Checks Before You Scratch the Card

Redeeming to the wrong account is far easier to prevent than to undo. Epic's help article asks for three things before you start:

  • Keep the purchase receipt until the V-Bucks are in your account. Epic Games Support may ask for it if anything goes wrong.
  • Make sure you are signed in to the right Epic account. On the redemption page you can sign in with your console credentials, which helps if you created your account on PlayStation, Xbox or Switch and never set an Epic password.
  • Open Account Information on the Epic website and confirm the Display Name matches the name you see in Fortnite. If it does not, you are looking at a different account.

Also look at what is printed on the card. A V-Bucks card adds a fixed amount of V-Bucks and can only be used for V-Bucks. Epic says Fortnite Gift Cards are replacing V-Bucks cards, though V-Bucks cards may still turn up at some retailers and in some regions during the rollout. A card that says Fortnite Gift Card does not use the steps below at all. Scratch the back gently, too: Epic tells you to take care not to damage the card, keeps a separate article for codes that got damaged anyway, and an unreadable PIN is a slow fix.

Redeeming at fortnite.com/vbuckscard, Step by Step

The redemption itself runs on Epic's website, not inside the game. You can start from the direct page or from your Epic account menu, and the flow is the same either way:

  1. Go to fortnite.com/vbuckscard, or hover over your Display Name on the Epic website and pick the V-Bucks Card option.
  2. Select Get Started and sign in if asked.
  3. Scratch the back of the card and type the PIN with no dashes.
  4. Select Next.
  5. Choose the platform you want the V-Bucks on, then select Next. Only devices linked to the account you are signed in to appear in this list.
  6. Review the account, the device and the new balance. If all three are right, select Confirm.

Step five deserves the most care. If your console is missing from the list, Epic and Nintendo point to two causes: you are signed in to a different Epic account than the one your console uses, or the console account was never linked. Fix the link first rather than picking another platform, because the choice decides where the V-Bucks end up.

The value printed on the card is the value you get, even after Epic's March 2026 change to V-Bucks packs. Game Developer reported that gift cards already purchased keep their original amount, so an older 1,000 V-Bucks card still loads 1,000, while the $8.99 pack in the store now holds 800. Our V-Bucks price breakdown lays out every current pack.

PlayStation and Xbox: The Second Code

On PC, Nintendo Switch and mobile, confirming on Epic's site is the end of the process and you can launch Fortnite and spend. PlayStation and Xbox add one more step. After you confirm, Epic generates a 12 or 25 character code on screen and also emails it to you. That code is redeemed on Sony's or Microsoft's own website, not on Epic's.

When you enter that second code, sign in with the PlayStation or Microsoft account that is linked to your Epic account. If you juggle several Sony or Microsoft accounts on one computer, Epic suggests using a private or incognito browser window so the wrong account is not already signed in. Epic's article links to Sony's and Microsoft's own pages on redeeming codes if you have not done it before.

Do not throw away the email with the second code until the V-Bucks show up in Fortnite. It is your record of that code once you close the confirmation screen, and it is what you would need if the console storefront reports a problem.

Nintendo Switch and Switch 2: Redeem on the Web, Spend on the Console

Nintendo's support page is blunt about one thing: V-Bucks cards cannot be redeemed directly on a Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch console. You redeem on the Epic website and then spend on the console. The Nintendo steps match Epic's, with one platform-specific choice:

  1. Go to fortnite.com/vbuckscard and select Get Started, signing in to your Epic account if prompted.
  2. Enter the PIN without dashes and select Next.
  3. Select Nintendo Switch as the platform, then Next.
  4. Check the Epic account, device and new balance, then select Confirm.
  5. Open Fortnite on your Switch 2 or Switch to see and spend the V-Bucks.

If Nintendo Switch is not offered in step three, either you are signed in to the wrong Epic account or your Nintendo Account is not linked to it yet. Nintendo has its own guide for linking an Epic Games account to a Nintendo Account, and that link has to exist before the option appears.

Think about this choice before you confirm. Epic's Shared Wallet article says V-Bucks purchased on Switch are not shared with other platforms and cannot be used in the web Item Shop, and V-Bucks bought on other platforms show as zero on Switch. If most of your play happens on another system, redeem the card there instead.

If Your Card Says Fortnite Gift Card

Fortnite Gift Cards work differently. Instead of loading V-Bucks, they add money to your Epic Games account balance, and they are redeemed at epicgames.com/redeem rather than the V-Bucks card page. Epic asks you to read and accept the Account Balance terms on your Payment Settings page (epicgames.com/account/payments) before you begin.

  1. Scan the QR code on the back and select Redeem, or open the redemption page and type the PIN. If the card has no code printed on it, check the retailer's receipt.
  2. Sign in with your Epic account or the console account you want to use.
  3. Confirm the account details, link any extra accounts if prompted, then select Redeem now.

The balance can then buy V-Bucks, Fortnite Crew or DLC on the Epic Games Store, or in Fortnite on PC and mobile, by picking Account Balance at checkout. There is a catch for Switch players: because Nintendo does not support the Shared Wallet, V-Bucks bought with account balance cannot be used on Nintendo, although they work on the other platforms where you play. The upside is a bonus: Epic's help page says the first time you redeem one of the new gift cards on your account, you get the GHOST Monks outfit, an offer that runs until December 31, 2026 and does not apply to the older V-Bucks cards. Our free skins roundup lists that outfit with the other no-cost unlocks this season, and our Fortnite Crew guide covers whether balance is better spent on a subscription.

When the Code Will Not Redeem

An error message on a card you just bought is frustrating, but the fixes are short. Work through them in this order:

  • Invalid code: retype it carefully on fortnite.com/vbuckscard. If it is correct and still rejected, Epic says the card most likely was not activated at the register, so contact the retailer and ask them to activate it.
  • Inactive code: Epic keeps a separate help article for this message. Read it before you open a ticket, and have the receipt ready in case support asks for it.
  • Redeemed to the wrong account: contact Epic Games Support with a photo of the card and a screenshot of the in-game account ID it should have gone to.
  • Gift card on the wrong account: support asks for the code and the display name of the account that should have received it.

Once the V-Bucks land, spend them with the same care you would give cash. Epic's return system can undo some cosmetic purchases within limits, and our guide to refund tickets and cancellations explains how many returns you get.

No Card on Hand?

If you do not have a card and are weighing other ways to add V-Bucks, the store's Fortnite V-Bucks page lists a V-Bucks top-up alongside pre-made accounts that hold between 15,000 and 60,000 V-Bucks, with listings covering PS4, PS5, Xbox, Switch and PC. The page tells you to check each product page for platform locks, region and whether a Battle Pass purchase is included before you pay, which matters for the same Switch wallet reasons covered above.

A pre-made account is its own Epic account, so its balance stays there rather than merging into yours. For everything else the store carries for the game, from skins to boosting, start at the Fortnite hub.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you redeem a V-Bucks card inside the game?

No. Redemption happens on Epic's website at fortnite.com/vbuckscard, and Nintendo confirms the card cannot be redeemed directly on a Switch or Switch 2 console.

Why does my V-Bucks card say the code is invalid?

Either a character was mistyped or the store never activated the card at checkout. If the code is correct, take the receipt back to the retailer and ask for activation.

Why are my V-Bucks not showing on PS5 or Xbox?

Console redemption needs a second step. Epic gives you a 12 or 25 character code, also sent by email, that must be entered on Sony's or Microsoft's website with the account linked to your Epic account.

Can I use a V-Bucks card on Nintendo Switch 2?

Yes. Redeem it on the website, pick Nintendo Switch as the platform, then open Fortnite on your Switch 2 or Switch. Your Nintendo Account must be linked to the Epic account first.

What is the difference between a V-Bucks card and a Fortnite gift card?

A V-Bucks card loads a fixed number of V-Bucks. A Fortnite gift card adds money to your Epic account balance, which can buy V-Bucks, Fortnite Crew or games, and it is redeemed at epicgames.com/redeem.

Do old V-Bucks cards still give the full amount?

Yes. Cards bought before the March 2026 change still redeem for the V-Bucks printed on them, even though store packs now hold fewer V-Bucks for the same money.
