Fortnite Ranked has eight ranks: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Elite, Champion and Unreal. Since the April 16, 2026 update, every rank from Bronze through Champion has three divisions (I, II and III), which makes 22 steps from Bronze I to Unreal, and your progress moves with where you place and how many players you eliminate. Ranks partially reset each season, and Unreal players get a leaderboard position instead of a division, with a newer Unreal Legends status above it for the very top of that leaderboard.
We checked this in November 2026 against Epic's help articles on playing Ranked and on the ranked percentage, Fortnite Comp Report's April 2026 post on the Elite and Champion split, Tracker.gg's report on Epic's May 2026 competitive update, FRVR's October 2026 ranked guide and Esports Tales' September 2026 rank distribution.
Every Rank in Order
From the bottom of the ladder to the top, the ranks run in this order. Epic's own help article still shows Elite and Champion as single ranks, but Fortnite Comp Report flagged on April 16, 2026 that both had been split into three, and FRVR's and Esports Tales' later guides describe the same 22-step ladder.

- Bronze I, II and III
- Silver I, II and III
- Gold I, II and III
- Platinum I, II and III
- Diamond I, II and III
- Elite I, II and III
- Champion I, II and III
- Unreal, with no divisions
Before April 2026 the ladder had 18 steps, which is why older guides and videos still describe Elite and Champion as one rank each. The split matters if you are aiming for Unreal, since there are now six divisions between Diamond III and the top instead of two. Esports Tales described that extra climb as making Unreal harder to reach than before.
The ranks are separate from your account level and Battle Pass level. Leveling up the pass does nothing for your rank, and rank progress does not speed up your pass, so treat them as two different tracks. Our Battle Pass explainer covers the leveling side.
How Ranked Progress Is Calculated
Epic keeps its explanation short. Its help article says your rank changes based on your placement and your eliminations in each match, and the percentage on your rank badge shows your progress toward the next division. In Epic's words, finishing higher and eliminating more players earns more progress. Reach 100 percent and you move up a division; play badly and the percentage can drop.
Epic does not publish the formula, so the finer detail comes from testing and guides. FRVR's October 2026 guide summarizes what testing and player reports point to:
- Placement matters most, and a Victory Royale gives the biggest single boost.
- Reaching the late storm circles often matters more than the exact placement number.
- Eliminations late in a match, and eliminations of higher-ranked players, are worth more than early ones.
- Steady results across many matches beat one big game, and frequent early deaths pull your progress down.
Taken together, those points explain the standard ranked advice: survive into the late circles first, and take fights when they come to you rather than chasing eliminations off the bus. A hot drop that ends in an early elimination costs more than it can earn once you are past the lower ranks.
One change from Chapter 7 Season 3 makes this easier to read in practice. Tracker.gg reported that Epic added clearer post-match ranked details showing how your eliminations and placement each affected your rank. Check that screen after a few games; it tells you quickly whether your losses come from dying early or from finishing with too few eliminations. Our guides on how to win more games and building fights cover the skills that move those numbers.
Modes and Separate Ladders
Ranked is not a single ladder across all of Fortnite. Before you can play it at all, Epic's help article says you need to complete the Outlast 500 players quest in your Kickstart quests; after that, you switch Ranked on from the mode selection screen in the lobby.

Which modes share a rank has changed in 2026, and Epic's help article has not caught up. It still says Battle Royale, Zero Build and Reload each have their own progression. More recent reporting says otherwise:
- Battle Royale and Zero Build share one rank. Esports Tales says the two were merged into a single rank with the v40.00 update at the start of Chapter 7 Season 2, and the leak account FNBRintel posted in February 2026 that shared progression was coming that season.
- Reload and Reload Zero Build share a separate Reload rank, which FRVR dates to April 2026.
- Your rank in one ladder does not affect the other, so a Champion in Battle Royale can still be Gold in Reload.
Shared progress does not make the modes identical to play. Building gives you cover and height on demand, while Zero Build pushes you toward natural cover and movement timing, so a rank earned mostly in one can feel harder to defend in the other.
Resets, Demotion and the Elite Floor
Epic's help article says ranks partially reset at the start of each new season. Since Chapter 7 Season 3, Tracker.gg reported, players also keep their Skill Rating through those resets, which Epic said should help matchmaking put you against players of similar skill. In practice, your visible badge drops back at the reset while the rating that decides your lobbies remembers how good you are, so you should not be thrown into mismatched lobbies while you climb back.
Demotion rules give you two safety nets during a season:
- Once you reach Elite, Epic says you cannot be demoted below it for the rest of that season.
- Once you reach Unreal, you stay Unreal until the next reset; Esports Tales notes this is why Unreal fills up late in a season.
We could not confirm from Epic whether the Treasure Hunters mini-season that began on November 1, 2026 brought a ranked reset of its own. The ranked panel in the lobby shows your current rank and progress, so check it rather than relying on secondhand claims.
Unreal, Unreal Legends and the Leaderboard
Unreal works differently from the ranks below it. Instead of a division and a progress bar, Unreal players get a position on the Unreal leaderboard. Above that sits Unreal Legends, which Epic announced in its May 2026 competitive update for Chapter 7 Season 3. Per Tracker.gg's report, it needs all three of these at once:
- Reaching Unreal.
- A Skill Rating of at least 2,500.
- A top 500 place on the Unreal leaderboard.
Drop below any one of them and the Legends status goes, though Unreal itself stays. The same update introduced the Axe of Unreal, a progressive reward for reaching Unreal, with separate versions for Battle Royale and Reload. Epic also scheduled Power Rankings to launch on June 5, 2026, a separate skill rating built from your 20 best Battle Royale and Reload tournament results; it sits alongside Ranked rather than replacing it.
| Rank | Share of tracked players |
|---|---|
| Bronze | 47.4% |
| Silver | 20% |
| Gold | 7.7% |
| Platinum | 8.8% |
| Diamond | 6.1% |
| Elite | 5.7% |
| Champion | 2.7% |
| Unreal | 1.7% |
Epic does not publish official distributions. The figures above come from a sample of more than four million public Fortnite Tracker profiles, so treat them as a guide rather than a census, but they make the shape clear: almost half of tracked players sit in Bronze, and fewer than one in fifty reach Unreal.
Rewards and Tournament Eligibility
Climbing pays out in two ways. Epic's help article says reaching certain ranks each season earns exclusive cosmetic rewards, and reaching high ranks makes you eligible for Epic-hosted tournaments, including the Fortnite Championship Series. FRVR listed the Battle Royale rank rewards for Chapter 7 Season 4 as the Phantom Spray at Gold, the Override Counter Back Bling at Platinum, the Beastly Battle Bus Loading Screen at Diamond, The Hack 'n Slasher Pickaxe at Elite, the Overridden Wrap at Champion and The Unrealizer Pickaxe at Unreal.
Tournament entry has requirements of its own. Epic requires two-factor authentication for Fortnite competitive events, which our 2FA guide walks through, and Tracker.gg reported that Epic planned to base later tournament eligibility on both your current rank and your previous season's rank. Some cups also hand out cosmetics; FRVR's November free skins roundup notes the Null outfit went to high finishers in a Ranked Cup in late October, and our free skins guide lists what is still claimable.
If You Would Rather Not Grind the Ladder Yourself
Not everyone has the hours for a 22-step climb. The store's Fortnite wins and ranked page lists a ranked boosting service for Ranked Battle Royale or Ranked Reload, where a booster logs in to your account and plays it up to the rank you choose, with delivery listed as 1 to 6 days. A separate wins service plays for Victory Royales in unranked, ranked or Reload, listed at 1 to 3 days. Both ask for your account login at checkout.
Be clear about what that means before ordering: handing over your login is account sharing, and Epic's account security guidance says its terms prohibit sharing accounts and that you are responsible for activity on yours. If you weigh that and still want the time back, the Fortnite hub also lists the store's V-Bucks, skins and account options.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the highest rank in Fortnite?
Unreal is the top rank. Above it, Unreal Legends is a status for Unreal players with a Skill Rating of at least 2,500 who sit in the top 500 of the Unreal leaderboard.
How many ranks are in Fortnite Ranked?
Eight ranks. With three divisions each from Bronze to Champion and a single Unreal, the ladder has had 22 steps since April 2026.
Do Fortnite ranks reset every season?
Partly. Epic says ranks partially reset when a new season starts, and since Chapter 7 Season 3 your Skill Rating carries over so matchmaking stays accurate.
Can you derank in Fortnite Ranked?
Below Elite, yes, poor matches can lower your progress and division. Once you reach Elite you cannot fall below it that season, and Unreal is held until the next reset.
What percent of Fortnite players are Unreal?
About 1.7 percent of tracked Battle Royale players in September 2026, according to Esports Tales' analysis of Fortnite Tracker data. Epic does not publish official figures.
How do you unlock Ranked in Fortnite?
Finish the beginner Kickstart quest that asks you to outlast 500 opponents across your matches. After that, the Ranked option becomes available whenever you choose a mode.
