The way to get rid of the Fell Curse in Enshrouded is to drink a Fell Curse Cleansing Tonic, a cheap consumable made from Fresh Shroud Spore that removes the curse on use and then keeps it off you for one hour. You unlock the recipe by talking to the Alchemist about the curse, and you should not wait for it to fade, because death does not clear it and it does not expire on its own. As of November 2026 and the 1.0 release, the cure, the ingredient and the world setting that controls the curse all work the same way they did when curses arrived in May 2025.
We checked this against the Enshrouded Wiki pages for the Fell Curse, the tonic and Fresh Shroud Spore, Keen Games' Thralls of Twilight and Patch 8 notes, the official Server Gameplay Settings article and a 1.0 walkthrough from October 2026.
What the Fell Curse Actually Does
The Fell Curse is a long-term debuff that Fell enemies apply when they hit you. The in-game description on the wiki is blunt: you have been cursed by the Fell and your time in the Shroud is reduced significantly. The shorter timer is the only effect the wiki lists, so on the surface the curse is easy to ignore until the next time you drop into the fog and watch the timer run out far sooner than it should.

That is the real danger. The Shroud timer is the hard limit on every dive into the fog, and when it reaches zero the fog kills you rather than slowly chipping at your health. A shorter timer means fewer chests opened, fewer Shroud Roots destroyed and more runs that end with a corpse and a tombstone at the bottom of a cave. A 1.0 walkthrough published in October 2026 also confirms the two details that catch most players out: the curse survives death, and it stays on your character until you cure it.
- How to spot it. A curse icon sits with your other status effects, and the debuff is listed under Debuffs on the character status screen.
- Who applies it. Fell enemies, the Shroud-touched monsters with the glowing blue look. The official settings article describes the curse as coming from attacks by the corresponding enemies, so the risk is highest wherever Fell gather.
- When it arrived. Keen added curses and diseases in the Thralls of Twilight update on 13 May 2025, together with new crafting resources for the cures.
Curses are chance-based. Not every Fell hit applies one, and the chance itself is a world setting, which is why two friends in different worlds can have very different experiences with it. More on that setting below.
Unlock the Cure Through the Alchemist
The fix is gated behind a short conversation. Once you have the curse, speak to the Alchemist at your base. The wiki says this gives you the quest A Cure For The Fell Curse, and completing it lets you craft the Fell Curse Cleansing Tonic. The October 2026 walkthrough adds that the dialogue topic is called Cursed By The Shroud, that it unlocks the Antidotes recipe group, and that the quest is listed as a side quest worth 100 XP.
The obvious requirement is that the Alchemist has to live in your base. If you have not rescued him yet, that is your first job. The same walkthrough places him in an Ancient Vault in the western Springlands, guarded by Scavengers at the entrance, and reminds you that placing a rescued survivor needs the Summoning Staff. Mage players usually have him early, because the Forging the Path update made the Alchemist the survivor who upgrades mage equipment.
A useful habit: talk to the Alchemist the moment you see the curse icon for the first time, even if you have no spores yet. Unlocking the recipe early means you can craft the tonic the instant you pick up the ingredients in the field, instead of carrying the curse through another dive.
Where to Find Fresh Shroud Spore
Fresh Shroud Spore is an uncommon material with a stack size of 250. According to the wiki, it comes from glowing blue Shroud fungus that appears at night across Embervale and is usually surrounded by groups of Fell. That makes collecting it a small fight every time, so treat a spore run like any other night excursion: bring food, repair your weapon and expect company.

The walkthrough recommends the Springlands as the most reliable place to start, with a cluster below the southern ledge of the Springlands Ancient Spire, and notes that spawns are fixed and come back. Gliding off a spire at night is the fastest way to spot the blue glow from above. Because the mushrooms only show up after dark, a world with very short nights makes the search harder; if you changed the night length, consider putting it back to normal while you stock up.
- Carry more than you need. Each tonic is a single craft, and the spores stack high, so a full night of picking covers many future cures.
- Do not burn them all on tonics. The wiki lists one Fresh Shroud Spore in the Shroud Survival Flask recipe at the Alchemist, alongside 20 Active Mycelium and 1 Wood Acid.
- Watch the Fell. The same enemies guarding the spores are the ones applying curses, so you can pick up a fresh curse while gathering the cure. Craft after the fight, not during it.
Crafting and Drinking the Tonic
The tonic is crafted in your personal crafting menu, so you do not need a workstation. The wiki lists the recipe as 2 Fresh Shroud Spore for one tonic, crafted instantly. The October 2026 walkthrough lists 1 Water as well and files the item under Supplies, Antidotes. Sources disagree here, so check the recipe card in your game: if it asks for water, a well or a water pouch in your backpack covers it.
- Open your character menu and switch to the Crafting tab.
- Find the Fell Curse Cleansing Tonic in the antidotes group and confirm you have the listed ingredients.
- Craft it. It finishes immediately.
- Open your backpack, select the tonic and use it, or put it on your action bar for quick access in the field.
When it works, the curse icon disappears and a Fell Curse Protection buff appears. The wiki lists that protection at one hour, which means Fell can hit you freely for the rest of that hour without reapplying the curse. The tonic is common, stacks to 20 and does not change your normal Shroud timer; it only removes the penalty. Keen made the Hemotoxin antidote behave the same way in Patch 8, describing the change as a temporary immunity similar to the Shroud Curse cure, so if you also fight poison-heavy enemies, keep one of each.
Timing matters. Because the protection lasts an hour, the best moment to drink a tonic is right before a long Shroud dive, not right after you notice the curse in base. You clear the penalty and make sure the next hour of fighting Fell in the fog cannot bring it back.
Protect Your Shroud Time While You Are Cursed
Sometimes you get cursed deep in a cave and cannot craft the tonic on the spot. In that case the goal is simply to get out with time to spare. The official tips article from Keen recommends remembering the way you came in, looking for refills of Shroud time at points of interest, and catching fresh air at towers or caves that are free of fog. Those habits matter twice as much with a shortened timer.
- Hourglass capsules. The 1.0 changelog says they now appear in many more places, add about 70% more time when used, and also drop from large Fell foes after a long fight.
- Flame level. The wiki's Flame Altar table shows your maximum Shroud time growing by a minute with each Flame upgrade, from 6 minutes at Flame level 2 up to 14 minutes at level 10.
- Skills. The wiki lists Inner Fires in the core of the skill tree for more Shroud time, and Relentless Flame between the Beastmaster and Survivor areas for even more. Our guide to Enshrouded builds shows where they fit in each playstyle.
- Stacking has limits. The 1.0 notes say the combined effect of stacked Shroud time extensions was reduced on purpose, so the fog would feel threatening again in higher tiers. Do not plan a dive around piling up every bonus.
A side benefit of fishing: the wiki's fishing loot tables list the Fell Curse Cleansing Tonic in the other-loot pool for every bait group, so an evening at the pond can turn up a spare. Our Enshrouded fishing guide explains how bait and rods change those odds. And if you mine in the Shroud, as you must for amber in Revelwood, plan the route out before you start swinging the pickaxe.
Turning the Curse Down or Off in World Settings
If you simply do not enjoy the mechanic, you can change it. Keen's Thralls of Twilight notes said from the start that the chance for the curse to trigger can be tweaked or disabled entirely in the world settings. The official Server Gameplay Settings article lists the option as Modify Shroud Curse, which is the curseModifier value in a dedicated server's configuration file, with three choices.
- Easy turns the feature off. Patch 8 relabeled this lowest option as Off in the game menu so the result is clearer.
- Normal is the default chance.
- Hard doubles the chance relative to Normal.
Individual settings like this only open up when the world's difficulty is set to Custom; the presets lock them. On a dedicated server, stop the server, edit the file and start it again so the change loads. Our Enshrouded dedicated server guide walks through the configuration file and the other values you might want to change at the same time. Remember that the setting affects only how often Fell apply the curse; it does not change the Shroud timer, which has its own Shroud Time Duration modifier.
Stock Up Before the Next Shroud Dive
The curse is one reason dives go wrong; running low on health and stamina is the other. Good food is the easiest fix, and Keen's own tips article points out that food gives temporary bonus stats such as more health and regeneration. If you would rather not spend your nights cooking, the store's best warrior food set for PC hands over 320 Sandwiches, 320 Shawarma, 320 Fruit Bowls and 280 Roasted Yucca Fruit, plus 2 Huge Magic Chests with 54 cells as a bonus, all usable from level 1.
It is a PC-only service, so console players will not be able to use it. Every other option for the game, including a modded save for PS5 and PC, is listed on the Enshrouded services page.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you remove the Fell Curse in Enshrouded?
Craft and drink a Fell Curse Cleansing Tonic. Talk to the Alchemist about the curse to unlock the recipe, gather Fresh Shroud Spore at night, then craft the tonic from your personal crafting menu.
Does the Fell Curse go away on its own or when you die?
No. It persists through death and does not wear off over time. Only the tonic removes it.
Where is Fresh Shroud Spore in Enshrouded?
It grows on glowing blue Shroud fungus that appears at night and is usually guarded by Fell. The Springlands are the easiest place to start looking.
How long does Fell Curse Protection last?
One hour after you drink the tonic. During that time Fell cannot reapply the curse.
Can you turn off the Fell Curse?
Yes. Set the world difficulty to Custom and change Modify Shroud Curse to its lowest option, shown as Off in game and stored as Easy in a server's configuration file.
What is the difference between the Fell Curse and Shroud Fatigue?
They are separate effects. The wiki ties Shroud Fatigue to casting eternal Shroud spells, which cut your Shroud time by 4 minutes, while the Fell Curse comes from Fell attacks.
