Enshrouded Crossplay: Can PC and PS5 Play Together?

No, Enshrouded crossplay does not exist yet: as of November 2026, PC and PS5 players cannot join each other's worlds. Keen Games said before the 1.0 launch that the game would not be cross-platform at release, that it is working on cross-platform play, and that it has no estimate for when it will arrive. Until then, everyone in a group needs to play on the same platform, and the Xbox version is still planned for spring 2027.

We checked this against Keen's Launch FAQ, the official Enshrouded FAQ and knowledge base, every patch and hotfix note published since launch up to Hotfix 1.0.1.2 on 4 November 2026, and the Steam Deck announcement.

Where Crossplay Stands in November 2026

The clearest statement is Keen's Launch FAQ, posted on Steam on 13 October 2026, two days before release. Asked whether players could play with friends on other platforms, the studio answered that Enshrouded will not be cross-platform at launch, that it is working on bringing cross-platform play to the game, and that it has no current estimate of how long that will take. The FAQ on the official website repeats the same answer.

Nothing has changed since. We read every update Keen has published after release: Hotfixes 1.0.0.1, 1.0.0.2 and 1.0.0.3 in October, the Steam Deck Verified announcement on 23 October, Patch 1.0.1.0 on 2 November, and Hotfixes 1.0.1.1 and 1.0.1.2 on 3 and 4 November. None of them mention cross-platform play. The patches focus on crashes, save migration, combat fixes and quality of life, which is typical for the first weeks after a big launch.

  • What "working on it" means. Keen has confirmed the intent, not a date or a scope. It has not said which platform pairs will be supported first.
  • Cross-progression is not crossplay. Even when crossplay arrives, moving a character between a Steam account and a PlayStation account would be a separate feature. Keen has not described either.
  • Where news will appear. Patch 1.0.1.0 added a link to the news section of the official website in the main menu, so announcements are one click away in the game.

Which Platforms Enshrouded Is On

Enshrouded entered Early Access on Steam in January 2024 and launched in full as version 1.0 on 15 October 2026 for PC and PlayStation 5, with PS5 Pro support listed at the release date announcement. The official FAQ says the Xbox Series X|S version is planned for spring 2027, and Keen's knowledge base FAQ, updated on 5 November 2026, gives the same window as Q2 2027. Keen's website FAQ also says there is no Switch 2 version in development.

  • PC: the Steam version, which also covers the Steam Deck. Valve rated Enshrouded 1.0 Steam Deck Verified, as Keen announced on 23 October 2026.
  • Cloud: Keen's FAQ confirms Enshrouded is available on GeForce Now, with availability depending on your country. The service streams your PC copy, so you play with PC players.
  • PS5: a separate version with its own player limits, covered below.
  • Xbox Series X|S: planned for spring 2027. Whether Xbox players will be able to join PC or PS5 worlds has not been announced.

Keen's FAQ says the game is otherwise the same on both platforms: the PS5 version makes full use of the DualSense controller and supports PSSR on PS5 Pro, and the player limits differ. Both got the full map with Cinder's Cradle, the level 50 cap, gear up to level 55, Sparkworks and the mage overhaul that gave every spell an eternal version. Our guide to eternal spells in Enshrouded covers that last change in detail.

One difference people often assume does not exist officially on either side: mods. Keen's FAQ says version 1.0 launched without mod support and that the developers are considering it for the future. So a PC group is not playing a different game from a PS5 group; the only gaps Keen lists are controller features, PS5 Pro upscaling and the size of the group. If your friends are split mainly because some prefer a controller, remember that the PC version supports controllers too, which removes one common reason to stay apart while crossplay is missing.

Player Limits on Each Platform

Because worlds cannot mix platforms, group size depends on where you play. Keen's FAQ lists up to 16 players on PC and up to 8 on PS5, with PS5 dedicated servers raising the PS5 limit to 16. The knowledge base FAQ adds that Enshrouded can also be played solo and offline, so nobody needs a group to enjoy it.

On PC, you can host a peer-to-peer session from your own game or run a dedicated server that stays online without you. Our Enshrouded dedicated server guide walks through installation, passwords and backups. The 1.0 update also improved multiplayer in general:

  • Permissions. Hosts set a default permission level for joining players with a single password, then promote or demote individual characters, and the role is remembered when that player rejoins.
  • Scaling enemies. A new Automatic option scales the number of enemies in each encounter to the size of the party nearby. Players in other parts of Embervale do not count.
  • Boss retries. Enemies now recover health gradually when players leave the fight, so a party that regroups quickly faces a boss that has not fully healed.

For bigger groups, it also helps to split roles. A tank, a healer and a ranged damage dealer make Hollow Halls and boss fights much smoother, and our guide to Enshrouded builds suggests combinations that work well together.

Purchases, Saves and Switching Platforms

Buying on one platform does not unlock the other. Keen's FAQ says PC players who bought the game in Early Access do not need to buy it again for 1.0, but that playing on PS5 requires a separate purchase, because Steam and PlayStation Store entitlements are different. If your group is split between a PC and a PS5, someone will need a second copy to play together today.

Saves follow the same split. Keen's 1.0 notes describe how Early Access saves on PC were backed up and converted to the new format automatically, and how PC players can choose between local and Steam Cloud save folders in the character and world selection menus. Neither the FAQ nor the launch notes describe any way to move a save between Steam and PS5, so plan as if your progress stays on the platform where you earned it.

  • Within one platform, characters travel. Keen's FAQ confirms you can take a character to another server or world and keep equipment, inventory, levels, skills, map memory and personal recipes.
  • Some things stay with the world. Most workshop recipes, rescued survivors and towers found by other players do not carry over, because they belong to the world rather than the character.
  • Shroud Roots count once. Roots you already destroyed stay collected, so you cannot farm their skill points by creating new worlds.

Playing With Friends on Different Platforms Today

Without crossplay, a mixed group has three realistic options. The first is to agree on one platform. PC offers the larger maximum group and dedicated server hosting on your own hardware, while PS5 is simpler for players who do not own a gaming PC. The second is to play on PC through the Steam Deck or GeForce Now, which both run the Steam version and therefore share worlds with PC players. The third is to wait: if most of your friends are on Xbox, the spring 2027 release is the date to watch.

Whichever you choose, settle on the world before anyone invests dozens of hours, because the world holds your base, your rescued survivors and your Flame level. A shared base also needs a good spot from day one; our guide to the best base locations in Enshrouded explains what to look for. If someone joins late, the character transfer rules above mean they can bring a character from a solo world on the same platform, with their gear and levels intact.

What to Watch For Next

Keen keeps a public roadmap in its knowledge base, last updated on 2 November 2026, and posts patch notes on Steam and on the official website. The website FAQ says the team's focus after launch is finishing the Xbox version, and the knowledge base adds that other platforms may be considered in the future. If cross-platform play is announced, expect it in one of those places first, most likely alongside news about the Xbox release.

Until then, treat any third-party claim of working crossplay with suspicion. As of 6 November 2026, Keen's own answer is still the one from launch: not yet, in progress, no date.

Starting Ahead on Either Platform

If you are switching platforms to play with friends, starting from scratch on the second copy is the painful part. The store's mega modded save works on PS5 and PC (not Xbox) and gives you a level 50 character with 212 unspent skill points, 3,169 items sorted across 27 storage chests, legendary weapons at full durability and the world map revealed, while the quests stay untouched so the story is still yours to play. It is a ready-made save rather than an edit of your current one, and you must already own the game.

On PS5, PlayStation Plus is required on the same account being modded. The rest of the store's Enshrouded options are on the Enshrouded services page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Enshrouded cross-platform between PC and PS5?

No. As of November 2026, PC and PS5 players cannot play in the same world. Keen says it is working on cross-platform play but has not given a date.

Is Enshrouded coming to Xbox?

Yes. Keen plans the Xbox Series X|S version for spring 2027, which its knowledge base lists as Q2 2027.

How many players can play Enshrouded together on PS5?

Up to 8 in a regular PS5 session, or 16 on a PS5 dedicated server. PC supports up to 16.

Can I transfer my Enshrouded save from PC to PS5?

Yes. The Steam Deck runs the Steam version, which is the PC version, and Enshrouded 1.0 is Steam Deck Verified.

Is Enshrouded coming to Switch 2?

Keen's FAQ says a Switch 2 version is not in development. Only PC, PS5 and Xbox are being worked on.
