Dying Light The Beast Max Level: Level 15 and Legend 300

Kyle Crane in Dying Light: The Beast beside a Legend 300 crest labelled Max Legend Level, with Volatiles behind him

The max level in Dying Light: The Beast is Level 15 for Kyle's regular skill progression. After that, every point of XP you earn becomes Legend XP, and Legend Levels run to 300, which the in-game Legend screen labels "Max Legend Level". So the real ceiling is Level 15 plus Legend Level 300.

Legend Levels arrived with Update 1.4 on 27 November 2025, together with New Game+. They do not exist in Restored Land, the survival mode added on 26 March 2026, which holds you at Level 15. Nothing has moved since: the latest patch is the 1.7 Anniversary Update of 17 September 2026, and on 14 October 2026 Techland's CEO said the studio is "not planning substantial new content" for The Beast. Treat 300 as final.

Level 15: the base cap arrives early

Level 15 comes quickly. The early curve is steep (IGN notes that going from Level 4 to Level 5 alone takes 20,000 XP), but quests pay well, and PowerPyx's trophy guide points out that Level 15 gives you enough skill points to buy out the Agility, Power and Survival trees. Beast skills are separate: those points come from defeating Chimeras in the story, not from XP.

That is why so many players hit "max level" long before the credits. The Steam thread titled "Max lvl 15?" dates from launch week in September 2025, two months before Legend Levels existed, and those players simply had nothing left to spend XP on.

How Legend Levels work

Techland's own description is short. Once you reach Level 15, all earned XP is converted into Legend XP. Each Legend Level grants Legend Points for passive upgrades (more health, better combat stats, a stronger Beast Mode), and every level also raises your maximum health by a fixed percentage. Higher difficulty settings and higher New Game+ tiers both increase the XP you earn.

You buy the upgrades in the Skills menu (the L key on PC, per a fix note in Update 1.5). Players on the Steam forums list one-handed, two-handed, firearm and bow damage, stamina, healing, loot and fall damage among the lines they bought first, with weapon damage and stamina the usual opening picks. Steam's global stats show 18.3% of players have spent at least one Legend Point, which unlocks the achievement The Legend Dawns.

Legend Level 300 is the hard cap

Techland's patch notes never say "the cap is 300" in one sentence, but everything points there. The Legend screen shows a 300 crest with the words "Max Legend Level" once you reach it, and Update 1.5 (17 December 2025) wrote a balance rule around that exact number: "Reaching Legend Level 300 before reaching NewGame+ 10 will make enemies' difficulty adjust accordingly." PC mods that push the cap to 600 exist, which confirms the stock limit, but Techland's support site says it does not support mods and warns that they can corrupt your saves.

The same update reined in a wild first month. On 13 December 2025 a Steam player at Legend 300 reported a machete hitting for 82 million damage. Update 1.5 "adjusted the NewGame+ and Legendary Levels progression curves to reduce farming exploits," fixed critical damage that was not scaling properly with Legend Levels and corrected the damage readout for weapons above 10 million.

Every Legend reward milestone

The reward track is where most of the value sits. Techland lists 22 new weapons (melee and firearms, including vintage guns), two complete outfits of six pieces each and new legendary vehicle skins. The rewards use the Iconic rarity that arrived with Legend Levels, and your first Iconic weapon pops the Beast's Dowry achievement. The milestones below come from the in-game reward screen as shown in creator showcases (Diamond ultra, Lenofn, Rod Sullivan), with names checked against community weapon lists. Techland's own announcement names the Vanguard outfit.

The levels in between mostly hand out melee weapons, such as Butcher's Dream and Peacekeeper, both named in Update 1.5's patch notes. Two practical points. Update 1.5 stopped players with no Legend progress from picking up Legend weapons that co-op partners drop and learning their blueprints, so you have to earn the track yourself. And if you want strong weapons without the climb, our legendary weapons guide covers the ones you can find in the world, while our best weapons list ranks what is worth modding.

What Legend 300 means for New Game+ and Nightmare

Legend Levels and New Game+ are wired together. Since Update 1.5, starting an NG+ run checks your Legend Level and sets enemy difficulty to match, and reaching 300 before NG+10 makes enemy difficulty adjust again. In practice the cap is where the game stops letting you outscale it. One Steam player at NG+5 described one-shotting Volatiles at Legend 299 and needing around ten hits the same night after ticking over to 300 (7 January 2026). YouTuber Rod Sullivan's NG+10 test reached the same verdict: a Legend 300 Crane still has to work.

That cuts both ways. Each NG+ tier pays more XP, and Techland says the per-level health gain is there to keep you "competitive in higher NG+ tiers". If you want the power fantasy back, the community's advice is to replay a lower tier rather than push higher. On Nightmare, added in 1.5, enemies are stronger again and the Alpha Volatile ignores your UV flashlight, so Legend 300 is a cushion there, not a win button. Our New Game+ and Nightmare guide covers the tiers and every mode's rewards.

The fastest honest route to high Legend Levels

There is no single trick left after patch 1.7. What works is the loop players settled on after Update 1.5:

  • Run the story in New Game+. Quests pay the most XP by far, and both difficulty and NG+ tier raise the payout. One player reported reaching Legend 276 halfway through an NG+5 speedrun (24 January 2026).
  • Fight at night. Night doubles the XP from kills, according to IGN. A Steam player reports that quest completion rewards do not change after dark, so save the fighting, not the hand-ins, for the night.
  • Do not die on Survival or harder. Death costs XP there. Story difficulty does not, and Update 1.5 fixed a bug that charged it in Story NG+.
  • Skip the old Volatile farms. Update 1.5 targeted farming exploits, and players now report Volatile XP dropping to zero after repeated kills.

Expect the curve to stretch. A player tracking it in January 2026 counted roughly 23,000 Legend XP per level early on, about 39,000 in the 30s and around 59,000 by the 60s and 70s. Our XP farm guide has per-method numbers wherever anyone has published them.

If you would rather skip the grind

Not everyone wants several story loops for a shotgun. If what you are after is the reward track itself, our All Unlocked Legend Level 300 save for PS5 and PC starts you at the cap with the Legend, New Game+, Nightmare and Permadeath rewards already unlocked. Keep the scaling rule above in mind: at 300, high NG+ tiers still push back. Our other Beast services, including in-game item transfers on PlayStation, Xbox and PC, are on the Dying Light store page.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the max level in Dying Light: The Beast?

Level 15 for the regular skill trees, then Legend Levels up to 300. The in-game Legend screen labels Legend Level 300 "Max Legend Level".

How do you get Legend Levels fast?

Reach Level 15, then run missions in New Game+ on the highest difficulty you can handle, do your killing at night and avoid dying on Survival or harder. The old Volatile farms were nerfed in Update 1.5 on 17 December 2025.

Do Legend Levels carry over into New Game+?

Yes. New Game+ keeps your gear, weapons and character progression, and starting a run checks your Legend Level to set enemy difficulty.

Can you earn Legend Levels in Restored Land?

No. Restored Land caps you at Level 15 and has no Legend Levels or New Game+. It has its own separate rewards.

What do you get at Legend Level 300?

Creator showcases of the reward screen put the Big Game shotgun at 300, the last item on the track. Reaching 300 before NG+10 also makes enemy difficulty adjust to match.

Will Techland raise the level cap?

Unlikely. As of 21 October 2026 the last patch is 1.7 from 17 September 2026, and Techland's CEO said on 14 October 2026 that no substantial new content is planned for The Beast.
