Bullets in Dying Light: The Beast come mainly from military convoys (open the truck with a Convoy Access Card taken from a soldier zombie), traders once you have levelled up, armed human enemies and their weapon crates, and the Precious Cargo side quest. No recipe list we checked lets you craft bullets, but arrows, crossbow bolts, flamethrower ammo, 40mm grenades and sawblades are all made at a workbench, and that is the real fix for running dry.
The game itself has no unlimited ammo option on any platform. On PC, mods and trainers can switch ammo use off at your own risk; on console, where mods do not exist, the answer is a bigger stockpile or a modded save. Everything here reflects Techland's notes through Anniversary Update 1.7 (17 September 2026).
How ammo works in The Beast
The Beast is built around melee, and IGN's launch guide calls ammo "a rare commodity". Guides and players refer to separate pistol, revolver, SMG, rifle and shotgun rounds, plus the crafted types for bows, crossbows and the three launchers. Two quirks reported on the Steam forums catch people out: one backpack slot holds up to 999 of an item, so a big stack of flamethrower ammo can crowd out your shells, and ammo you pick up cannot be moved into the stash. A reply in another thread notes the only ammo that lands in the stash comes from Techland.GG (Outpost) rewards.
Restored Land, the persistent solo mode added in March 2026, plays by harsher rules: Techland's notes say enemies stay dead, loot can only be collected once, and shops carry reduced stock at higher prices. Everything below assumes the main game.
Military convoys: the best bullet source
Convoys are armored military trucks parked around Castor Woods, shown with a truck icon once you have found them. Each soldier zombie nearby carries one Convoy Access Card, so kill and loot all of them, and quickly: GameRant warns the bodies despawn if you leave them. Use a card on the rear door, then pick the locks on the side lockers for extra rounds. GameRant counts about three items per truck, mixing bullets, healing items and sometimes a weapon.
Convoys refresh over time, so a loop pays off. DualShockers suggests checking your known convoys every two or three missions, and GameRant points to the Mountain Path Convoy, east of Old Town beside a safe zone, as one of the first you can reach. Harder infected guard them as the story goes on.
Vendors, armed humans and Precious Cargo
Vendors. Traders start selling ammo as you level up, and their stock resets. Shacknews and DualShockers both recommend selling your valuables and buying out the ammo at the Town Hall and Exiles' Cave traders whenever you pass through. It is the fastest refill and the most expensive one.
Armed humans and crates. The Baron's gunmen drop a few rounds each, and missions against them often have weapon crates nearby that Survivor Sense highlights. These drops improved in April 2026, when Hotfix 1.6.1 fixed a bug that capped the ammo you could loot from ranged human enemies. Keep an eye out for stacks of green military crates too; IGN says a few boxes of rounds usually sit nearby.
Precious Cargo. This Old Town side quest ends with a choice over a container of ammunition. Walkthroughs list Pistol Ammo x2 in your Town Hall room if you hand over a crate and x4 if you refuse, which takes longer. Shacknews also reported recurring pistol deliveries afterwards, and Patch 1.3 "balanced" the bullet count from this quest, so expect the exact numbers to vary.

Crafting ammo: arrows, bolts, fuel, grenades and sawblades
Everything except bullets is crafted. The recipes below come from KeenGamer's blueprint tables (October 2025); later patches adjusted some crafting costs, Patch 1.3 for example cut the wiring cost of weapon crafting, so trust your workbench if it disagrees.
| Ammo | Used by | How you get it | Craft recipe |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pistol, revolver, SMG, rifle and shotgun rounds | Firearms | Convoys, traders, armed humans, crates, Precious Cargo | None found |
| Arrows | Bows | Craft; unlocks with the Hunting Bow | 10 scrap + 2 feathers = 4 |
| Fire arrows | Bows | Blueprint at Camping Tower Safe Spot | 10 scrap + 5 resin + 2 feathers = 2 |
| Shock arrows | Bows | Blueprint at Gas Station Voltage Pole Safe Spot | 15 scrap + 5 wiring + 2 feathers = 2 |
| Crossbow bolts | Crossbows | Blueprint from the Hunting Yaga quest | 12 scrap + 2 feathers = 4 |
| Fire bolts | Crossbows | Blueprint at Farms Tower Safe Spot | 18 scrap + 5 alcohol + 2 feathers = 2 |
| Shock bolts | Crossbows | Blueprint at Asylum Island Tower Safe Spot | 18 scrap + 5 wiring + 2 feathers = 2 |
| Flamethrower ammo | Flamethrower | Flamethrower skill | 10 resin + 3 fuel = 200 |
| 40mm grenades: explosive, freezing, incendiary, shock, UV | Grenade Launcher | Grenade Launcher skill | 10 scrap + 8 cans + 1 extra part = 1 (battery for explosive and shock, oxidizer for freezing, fuel for incendiary, cleaning supplies for UV) |
| Sawblades | Sawblade Launcher | Unlocks with the Sawblade Launcher | 20 scrap + 5 leather + 3 blades = 2 |
Feathers gate both bow and crossbow ammo, and fuel gates the Flamethrower. At 200 rounds per craft, flamethrower ammo is the cheapest way to clear a crowd without spending a single bullet, while grenades and sawblades are expensive enough to save for Chimeras.

The fastest ammo farming routes
- Convoy loop plus trader buyout. Clear the convoys you know, sell valuables, buy out the Town Hall and Exiles' Cave traders, then return after a couple of missions when trucks and stock have refreshed. Every major guide lands on some version of this.
- Baron missions. Since Hotfix 1.6.1 removed the cap on ammo from ranged human enemies, fights with armed Baron's men are worth looting properly, crates included.
- Save bullets instead of farming them. Let crafted ammo do the routine work, the bow or crossbow for quiet kills and the Flamethrower for crowds, and keep bullets for Chimeras and gunmen.
- The death-loop trick (player report). A September 2025 Reddit post and a small YouTube clip describe grabbing a mission's ammo, dying, and finding the ammo respawned while you keep what you took; the clip uses the main quest Vengeance is Mine. It is an exploit, it predates several patches, and dying costs XP in Survival mode, so test it before you rely on it.

Is there unlimited ammo in Dying Light: The Beast?
Not as a game option. We found no difficulty setting, skill or docket that grants infinite ammo as of 21 October 2026. Techland's docket codes, entered on the Dying Light Outpost site, hand out weapons, and 2026 code lists also include one that grants a convoy key card, which is the closest legitimate thing to free ammo. Codes expire, so use a current list.
On PC, mods and trainers that stop ammo from depleting have existed since launch week. Techland's support site states that external mods are unsupported and can corrupt save files, so back up first and keep them out of co-op with strangers. Consoles have no mods. Modded saves with infinite ammo exist for PS5 and PC, as our cheats and god mode guide explains; otherwise the answer is a bigger stockpile, which is what our 999 of every ammo type in-game transfer provides on PlayStation, Xbox and PC. Item-copy glitches are a separate story, covered in our duplication glitch guide, and the full range of Beast services lives on the Dying Light hub.
Making your ammo last
Most ammo problems are spending problems. Fight ordinary infected with melee and kicks, and save guns for the Baron's men, Chimeras and anything you cannot reach. Chaining gunshots and explosions brings reinforcements (Update 1.4 tuned how many), so a loud fight can cost more rounds than it returns. A thrown melee weapon is a free ranged hit if you can retrieve it, and the Ciupaga carries +100% throw power. Finally, pick weapons that do not need bullets at all; our best weapons tier list ranks the bows, crossbows and launchers.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you get more ammo in Dying Light: The Beast?
Loot military convoys with the access cards their soldier zombies carry, buy out the Town Hall and Exiles' Cave traders, loot armed Baron's men and their crates, and finish Precious Cargo. Craft arrows, bolts, fuel, grenades and sawblades instead of buying them.
Can you craft bullets in Dying Light: The Beast?
No recipe for pistol, revolver, SMG, rifle or shotgun rounds appears in any blueprint list we checked as of 21 October 2026. Bullets are looted, bought or earned from quests.
Where do you find shotgun and revolver ammo?
In the same places as other bullets: convoys, traders and armed humans. DualShockers' writer reached the finale with just over 60 shotgun shells and 30 revolver rounds by looting steadily rather than farming.
How do you farm ammo fast?
Loop your known convoys every couple of missions, sell valuables and buy out the traders, and loot every armed human, since Hotfix 1.6.1 removed the cap on their ammo drops. Use crafted ammo for everyday fights.
Is there an unlimited ammo cheat?
Not in the game itself. PC mods and trainers can do it at your own risk, and Techland does not support them. On console, where mods are unavailable, the only infinite-ammo route we know of is a modded save on PS5.
Is there a max ammo limit, and can you store ammo in your stash?
We found no per-type cap published by Techland as of 21 October 2026. Players on the Steam forums report that one backpack slot holds up to 999 of an item, with extra rounds spilling into another slot, and that picked-up ammo cannot be moved to the stash. Ammo from Outpost rewards is delivered there.
