The Black Hawk Down campaign in Delta Force is a free co-op story mode that recreates the 1993 battle of Mogadishu across seven chapters, built for squads of four but playable solo. It launched on PC on February 21, 2025, after a short delay from its original January date, and as of November 2026 it remains a separate download you add from Steam or from the campaign lobby inside the game.
Everything here comes from the developer's own launch announcements and patch notes on Steam, the campaign's Steam store page and the main Delta Force store page, checked in November 2026.
What the Campaign Is and How to Get It
The developer describes the campaign as a faithful reboot of the 2001 film and a tribute to the 2003 game Delta Force: Black Hawk Down. You play as an elite Delta Force operator during Operation Gothic Serpent, when a capture mission to detain enemy lieutenants turned into a desperate fight after two Black Hawk helicopters were shot down. It runs on Unreal Engine 5, like the rest of the game.

It costs nothing. In the launch FAQ the developer said the content is free for everyone because it had promised that all playable content would be free, and the campaign's Steam page lists it as a free item. The launch post put the download at roughly 28 GB, so check your storage before you start.
- Steam: download it directly from Steam or from the Black Hawk Down lobby in the game.
- Epic Games Store or the official launcher: use the Black Hawk Down tab in the launcher or the in-game lobby.
The official launch posts covered these PC storefronts. The console patch notes we reviewed do not mention the campaign, so if you play on PlayStation or Xbox, check your console store listing before planning a squad night. Our crossplay guide explains how the different platforms fit together.
The road to launch was short but bumpy. When the PC open beta began in December 2024, the developer announced that the campaign would land in January 2025. In mid-January it pushed the date back to the middle of Season Starfall to allow more polishing and optimization, and the campaign finally went live on February 21, 2025, at 3AM UTC.
Squads, Classes and Solo Play
The campaign was designed around four-player squads. Before each mission you pick a class and a loadout, and each class has its own abilities, with some able to drop Med Kits and Ammo Packs for teammates. The developer's own tips stress objectives first, careful observation before engaging, quick revives and constant awareness, because enemies can appear from any direction in the narrow streets.
You can play alone, but the developer warned at launch that solo is incredibly challenging and recommended a full squad of four. A dedicated Black Hawk Down Solo Mode later launched on PC on May 22, 2025, so lone players have a more suitable way to experience the story.
At launch, the campaign supported keyboard and mouse only, and the developer said controller support would come in a future update. Controller support has since spread across the rest of the game, but check your settings if you plan to use a pad in the campaign.
Chapter-by-Chapter Overview
Spoiler warning: the list below follows the official chapter descriptions and reveals mission objectives and key story beats. Skip to the next section if you want to go in fresh.

- Irene: push into the city, clear the landing point, breach the meeting site and detain Aidid's advisors, then hold off the militia until the convoy arrives.
- The Fuse: act as the squad's point man and clear the way so a convoy carrying the wounded can reach the main road.
- Black Hawk Down: a friendly helicopter goes down and you race to the crash site to search for survivors.
- Lost Convoy: with the capture mission on hold, escort a vital convoy through hostile territory.
- Valor: a second helicopter is down, and two snipers are defending the survivors; you fight to support them.
- N.S.D.Q.: as night falls and rescue convoys move in, you find scattered soldiers and guide them to safety.
- Mogadishu Mile: follow the extraction convoy on foot through blocked streets all the way to the stadium.
Each chapter unlocks after you complete the previous one, so the campaign plays as a single run from the first assault to the final march, and later chapters assume you have learned the habits that earlier ones teach.
Rewards and How Squad Progress Works
Clearing missions earns cosmetic rewards that carry over to the rest of the game, which makes the campaign worth finishing even if you mostly play multiplayer.
- Clear the first stage, solo or in a squad: Calling Card Debris and the Black Hawk Downing badge.
- Clear every stage, solo or in a squad: Calling Card Black Hawk Forever.
- Clear every stage solo with the highest rating: the Black Hawk Lone Wolf badge.
- Clear every stage as a squad with the highest rating: the Black Hawk Ace Squad badge.
Progress in squads follows the captain. Everyone starts with Chapter 1 unlocked, and the missions available to a squad depend on the captain's progress. After a clear, every member unlocks the next chapter. The developer's example: if a player who has unlocked Chapters 1 to 4 hosts a player who has only Chapter 1 and they clear Chapter 4 together, the newer player ends up with Chapters 1 and 4 cleared and Chapter 5 unlocked, skipping the middle missions on their own record. If you care about the full set of rewards, play the chapters in order with a host at your level.
Tips for the Hardest Missions
The convoy and defense chapters are where most squads fail, because the fights are long and supplies run out. A few habits help:
- Bring a healer and an ammo carrier. Classes that drop Med Kits and Ammo Packs turn long holds from impossible into manageable.
- Call out rooftops and windows. Urban maps hide shooters above street level, and one player watching high angles saves the whole squad.
- Revive fast, but not blindly. Smoke or cover the downed teammate before running out, or you will lose two players instead of one.
- Stay on the objective. The developer's own advice is that mission objectives come first; chasing kills off the route invites flanks.
- Pace your ammo in Mogadishu Mile. The last chapter is a long push on foot, so reload behind cover and pick up supplies when you can.
Weapon choice matters less here than in competitive modes, but a reliable assault rifle with manageable recoil still makes life easier. Our weapon guide covers which rifles handle best if you want to compare.
How the Campaign Connects to the Rest of the Game
The Mogadishu setting did not stay in the campaign. Season Reorientation added The Mog, a Warfare map set in the crumbling districts of modern Mogadishu, with push-cart tug-of-war battles and UH-60 Black Hawk suppressive air support. If you enjoyed the campaign's streets, The Mog is the closest multiplayer equivalent, and our map guide covers it alongside the rest of the Warfare rotation.
The campaign also works as a gentle introduction for new players. It teaches movement, cover and squad communication without the pressure of losing gear, which is useful practice before your first extraction raid. If you play mostly on a phone, our mobile overview explains what that version offers and how it lines up with PC.
A Short Checklist Before Your First Run
The campaign is free and self-contained, but a little preparation saves frustration, especially if you are coming straight from the multiplayer modes.
- Free up space and update first. The campaign is a separate download of around 28 GB, so install it before your squad arrives rather than while everyone waits.
- Agree on a captain. Because the captain's progress decides which chapters the squad can play, pick the player with the least progress as host if you want everyone to clear every chapter in order.
- Split the classes. Four players on the same class leaves gaps; aim for at least one player who can supply ammo and one who can heal.
- Set expectations for difficulty. This is not a casual shooting gallery, and the developer's own launch text calls it the ultimate test of skill. Expect to repeat checkpoints on the convoy missions.
- Plan for two sessions. Seven chapters with retries rarely fit into one evening, and fatigue makes the late night chapters much harder.
If you are playing alone, use the Solo Mode rather than the squad version, and take the defense chapters slowly. Holding a corner and letting enemies come to you is far more reliable for a lone player than pushing into open streets.
Want More Progress Outside the Campaign?
The campaign's rewards are cosmetic, and building up the multiplayer side of your profile is a separate, much longer grind. Players who would rather begin with an established profile can review the account listings on the store's Delta Force page, each of which lists its own details. Before deciding, note that the Delta Force EULA says accounts may not be sold, resold, rented, leased or shared, and that access may not be provided to anyone else.
