The legitimate ways to get free gems in Clash Royale are Collection Level milestones, Trophy Road rewards, the free Pass Royale track, daily Shop gifts, events and challenges, and a few automatic conversions such as surplus Hero Coins. As of November 2026 the biggest single pool is the Collection Level track, which Supercell says holds 14,955 Gems in total. Anything outside the game that promises free gems, from generators to "cheap gem" sellers, is a scam that Supercell's own support pages warn about. Here is each real source, roughly how much it gives, and where gems are worth spending.
We checked this against Supercell's Clash Royale help center articles on Gems and Gold, Pass Royale, Heroes, Shop Offers and account security, plus Supercell's May 2026 Collection Level announcement and the June 2025 update notes, in November 2026.
Every Official Way to Earn Gems Without Paying
Supercell's Gems and Gold article lists where gems come from. Stripped of the paid offers, the free sources are:

- Collection Level milestones, paid as you unlock and upgrade cards.
- Trophy Road, where certain Trophy milestones award Gems.
- Pass Royale, whose free track includes Gems as well as the paid one.
- Daily Deals in the Shop, where login gifts sometimes include free Gems.
- Special events and challenges, which can award Gems for reaching a set number of wins.
- Clan Gifts, when a clanmate sends a Gem bundle through the Shop.
- Magic Item overflow, when your storage is full and the game offers Gems instead of the item.
Two corrections to that list as of November 2026. The help page still mentions Card Mastery as a Gem source, but the May 2026 rework changed Mastery tasks to pay Gold only and moved their Gems into Collection Level milestones. And it mentions buying bonus rewards from Global Tournaments with Gems, which Supercell removed when tournaments returned in March 2026; every tournament reward is now earned through wins.
Collection Level Milestones: The Biggest Free Pool
Since King's Journey and XP were removed on May 26, 2026, your overall progress is measured by Collection Level: the sum of every card's level, plus five for each Evolution and Hero you own. Milestones along that track pay out Gems, Wild Cards, Lucky Chests and Evolution Boxes. The first reward comes at Collection Level 20, then every 10 levels, and every 5 levels once you pass 1,500.
Supercell published the totals for the whole track, and the Gem figure is 14,955. That is more than any other free source and it is permanent, because the milestones are the same for every player regardless of Arena. The key consequence: every single card upgrade, even on a card you never play, adds one Collection Level and moves you toward the next Gem payout. Our guide to Collection Level and King Tower Level explains the system in more depth.
Supercell's own comparison of the old and new systems put total Gems from Mastery and King's Journey at 14,330 before the change and 14,945 after, so the rework moved Gems around rather than cutting them.
Pass Royale, Trophy Road and Daily Shop Gifts
The free Pass Royale track is the steadiest monthly source. Its reward list includes Gems alongside Wild Shards, Hero Coins, Magic Lucky Chests and Gold Crates, and you advance it simply by earning Crowns in battle. Your first three battles each day give five bonus Crowns, so a few games a day keep the pass moving even if you do not play much.

Trophy Road is the other big one, especially for newer accounts. In its June 2025 update, Supercell moved 2,525 Gems from Card Mastery to Trophy Road, saying more players were earning Gems there than through Mastery. Gems sit at set Trophy milestones along the road, so climbing is itself a Gem source until you reach its end at 14,000 Trophies.
Then there are the small daily habits that add up:
- Shop login gifts. The first Daily Deals slot always holds your daily gift, which Supercell describes as Gold, Gems or Golden Chests, plus a free Epic Card every Sunday.
- Welcome Back calendar. If you have been away for 30 days or more, a seven-day reward calendar appears when you return, and each reward has a 30-day grace period to claim.
- Catch-Up Rewards. Missed days of Daily Battle Rewards (up to 28) partly carry over to your next wins, though at lower value than playing daily. Supercell notes this feature is still being tested.
- Events and challenges. Season events and challenges list Gems among their win rewards; check the event tab at the start of each season.
Overflow and Conversion Gems People Miss
Some Gems arrive without any obvious action, usually because a resource hit its cap. The most useful one right now involves Heroes. Hero Coins are capped at 200, enough to unlock one Hero of your choice. Anything above 200 converts into Gems at one Gem per Hero Coin, and if an event hands you a Hero you already own, you get card copies and 20 Hero Coins instead. Since the free Pass Royale track offers up to 75 Hero Coins a season, players who sit on a full stock of coins are quietly converting them into Gems.
Magic Item overflow works similarly. When you claim a Magic Item from the Pass, Trophy Road or a challenge and your storage is full, the game may offer Gems or Gold instead. Supercell's Gems article confirms Gems can be part of that replacement.
There were also two one-off conversions worth knowing about if you returned after a break. In November 2025, leftover Elite Wild Cards were converted into Gems and each Book of Books became between 400 and 6,000 Gems depending on King Tower Level. In May 2026, the Collection Level launch paid celebration rewards from 500 to 5,000 Gems. Both have already happened, so they will not repeat for new players.
Finally, Supercell ID Rewards lets you earn points through missions at id.supercell.com and claim in-game items and cosmetics. The catalog changes over time, so check the site rather than assuming Gems are on offer. ID Rewards Points cannot be earned through in-app purchases, and they expire after 12 months under rules Supercell sets out on its help page.
Where Free Gems Go Furthest
Gems are only free once; how you spend them decides whether they matter. Supercell lists their uses as speeding up Clan requests, buying chests and emotes, buying missing Gold or cards for an upgrade, skipping Pass Royale tiers, joining challenges, creating tournaments, changing your name and rerolling the Trader. Some practical priorities:
- Finish upgrades that unlock something. Buying the last few copies or a bit of Gold to complete an upgrade that reaches a new King Tower requirement gets you sturdier towers and a higher Tower Troop cap. Our page on upgrade costs up to Level 16 shows how big those final steps are.
- Skip Pass tiers only at the end of a season. Each tier costs Gems based on the Crowns needed, at 10 Gems per Crown, so it is best used to grab one last reward before the season closes.
- Be careful with challenge and event retries. Paying to continue a challenge or to restore lives in Victory Run can drain Gems quickly, and upgraded Pass Royale holders already get free retries in most challenges.
- Skip cosmetic buys until your main deck is where you want it, unless cosmetics are what you enjoy most.
If Evolutions are your goal, Gems are a slow route; the Pass and Evolution Boxes do more, as our guide to getting Evolution Shards explains.
Gem Generators and Cheap Gem Sellers Are Scams
No website, app or "generator" can add Gems to your account. Supercell's support pages are blunt about the alternatives people get pulled into:
- Sites offering free Gems usually aim to collect your email and password, and some carry keyloggers or viruses.
- Sellers offering Gems below the in-game price often rely on stolen payment methods, according to Supercell, and buying from them can lead to your account being hijacked or resold.
- Gems bought from third parties can get you disqualified from tournaments and events, suspended or permanently banned.
- Modded game clients and bots count as cheating under Supercell's terms and can bring heavy account penalties.
There is also a delayed trap. If a Gem purchase is refunded after you have spent the Gems, Supercell deducts the value and your balance can go negative, which blocks you from buying any in-game offer. Anyone asking for your Supercell ID code in exchange for Gems is trying to take the account; Supercell never contacts players for codes. If that has already happened, our account recovery guide walks through getting it back.
If You Would Rather Not Farm It Yourself
Free Gems add up slowly, and some players prefer to start on an account that has already banked them along with cards and Evolutions. The store's Clash Royale hub lists accounts from marketplace sellers, with details such as King Tower level, trophies and Evolutions stated on each listing, and a Gem balance on some. Supercell's Terms of Service state that you shall not purchase, sell, rent or give away your account, so check those terms first.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you get free gems in Clash Royale fast?
Upgrade cards to hit Collection Level milestones, climb Trophy Road, finish the free Pass Royale track each season, and claim the daily Shop gift. There is no faster legitimate shortcut.
Are Clash Royale gem generators real?
No. They cannot add Gems to an account. Supercell warns that free-Gem sites usually try to steal your login or personal data and can contain malware.
How many gems do Collection Level rewards give?
Supercell lists 14,955 Gems across all Collection Level milestones, alongside Wild Cards, Lucky Chests and Evolution Boxes.
Does Card Mastery still give gems?
Not since the May 2026 rework. Mastery tasks now reward Gold only, and the Gems they used to give were moved into Collection Level milestones.
What happens to Hero Coins above 200?
They convert into Gems at one Gem per Hero Coin. The cap is 200, which is the cost of unlocking one Hero.
Why is my Clash Royale gem balance negative?
Usually because a Gem purchase was refunded after the Gems were spent, so Supercell deducted their value. While the balance is negative you cannot buy in-game offers.
