How to Get Evolution Shards in Clash Royale (2026)

Clash Royale YouTube thumbnail: Only Ways to Unlock Evolution Shards FAST in Clash Royale - Complete Guide!

You get Evolution Shards in Clash Royale from the Pass Royale, Evolution Boxes, Magic Lucky Chests, events, challenges, Shop offers and Trophy Road, and you need six of them for one card to unlock its Evolution. As of November 2026 (the King vs. King season), the fastest steady routes are the Pass Royale choice tiers, the Evolution Boxes handed out at Collection Level milestones, and whichever free event Supercell attaches to the season's new Evolution. Below is every source, what each one realistically gives, and how to spend shards so they are not wasted.

We checked this against Supercell's Clash Royale help center articles on Evolution Shards, Card Evolution, Magic Items and Lucky Chests, the official Clash Royale blog posts for the March, May, October and November 2026 seasons, and the Clash Royale Fandom wiki's Evolution list in November 2026.

How Evolution Shards and Wild Shards Work

An Evolution is a stronger form of a regular card. To unlock it you collect six Evolution Shards that belong to that specific card, for example six Knight shards for the Knight Evolution. There is also a flexible version: a Wild Shard counts as one Evolution Shard for any Evolution you choose, so it fills gaps when the card you want is not being offered. Supercell caps unassigned Wild Shards at six, which means you can always hold exactly one full Evolution's worth in reserve.

Unlocking the Evolution is only half the job. In battle, the evolved form appears only when the card sits in the Evolution Slot or the Wild Slot of your deck. Since the mid-March 2026 update, Trophy Road, Ranked and challenges use three special slots: one Evolution Slot (unlocked at Arena 3), one Hero Slot (Arena 5) and one Wild Slot (Arena 10) that accepts an Evolution, a Hero or a Champion. The card also has to cycle: you play it a set number of times until the diamonds above it turn purple, and the next copy you play comes out evolved.

The pool keeps growing. The Fandom wiki's Evolution list has 45 entries as of the November 2026 season, ending with Giant and Mirror. That is a lot of targets for a handful of shards each month, which is why the order you unlock them in matters more than raw speed.

Pass Royale: The Steadiest Shard Source

The Pass Royale unlocks at Arena 2 and is the one source that delivers shards every single season. Both tracks matter. The free track includes Wild Shards among its rewards, so even players who never pay pick up a few flexible shards per month by earning Crowns. The premium track goes further: at certain milestones it lets you choose between a Hero, an Evolution, or six Wild Evolution Shards. Since the March 2026 season the upgraded pass no longer comes in two versions, and its first tier offers four options to choose from.

That choice is the most valuable decision in the pass. If the season's new Evolution fits a deck you already play, take it. If it does not, six Wild Shards are usually the better pick, because you can aim them at an older Evolution that suits your deck, like the Valkyrie or Bomber, instead of collecting one you will never put in a slot. In November 2026, the Giant Evolution is one of the premium choice rewards, and it can also be unlocked with Wild Shards.

The pass also helps indirectly. Its Lucky Loop pays out a Magic Lucky Chest for each extra Crown milestone after you finish the main track, and those chests can contain shards. If you want to know how Crowns and gems interact with the pass, our guide to earning gems without spending money covers tier skipping and what it costs.

Evolution Boxes, Collection Levels and Trophy Road

Evolution Boxes are the second pillar. Each box contains one, two or six shards of a random Evolution, so a single box can occasionally hand you a complete unlock. Supercell's help center lists two ways to get them: events and Collection Level milestones.

The Collection Level system replaced King's Journey in the update of May 26, 2026, and it is now a quiet but reliable shard source. Your Collection Level is the sum of all your card levels plus five for every Evolution and Hero you own. Milestone rewards start at Collection Level 20, arrive every 10 levels after that, and every 5 levels once you pass 1,500. Across the whole track, Supercell lists 13 Evolution Boxes among the rewards, and its own comparison estimated that Evolution Shards from boxes rise from 11 under the old system to 16 under the new one. Every card upgrade adds one Collection Level, so pushing cards you already use also moves you toward the next box. Our explainer on what replaced King Level walks through the full system.

Trophy Road pays out too. The help center lists it as a shard source, and when Supercell added Arenas 29 to 32 in March 2026, it put a 5-Star Evolution Box at the very end of the road, which now finishes at 14,000 Trophies. If you are still climbing, that box is a concrete target worth knowing about.

Lucky Chests, Events and the Shop

Magic Lucky Chests come from your first four wins each day, from the Pass Royale track, from challenges and from Collection Level rewards. They only start paying shards at higher rarities. In Supercell's published odds for Chest Level 13 and above, a 4-Star Magic Lucky Chest has a 5.5% chance to contain two Evolution Shards, and a 5-Star chest has a chance to contain a full Evolution. Sources disagree on that last number: the help center table shows 5%, while the mid-March 2026 blog post announced a raise to 9.5% for 5-Star chests at Chest Level 13 and above. Either way, a full Evolution from a chest gives you all the shards for a random Evolution you have started but not completed, so partially built Evolutions are the ones that benefit.

Events are where most free full Evolutions have come from in 2026. A few recent examples, all from Supercell's season posts:

  • The Shocktober: The Movie! Album Event (October 6 to November 2, 2026) gave the Electro Giant Evolution for completing the album. It has ended.
  • The K.H.A.O.S season in August 2026 offered the Elite Barbarians Evolution through Ken's Shop.
  • Crown Chase events have included smaller shard bundles, such as three Skeleton Barrel Evolution Shards in November 2025.
  • The 10th Anniversary album in March 2026 included three Royal Hogs Evolution Shards as a scene reward.
  • The one-season Choice Chests of July 2026 listed Evolution Shards among the 4-Star and 5-Star options.

The Shop rounds things out. Supercell lists Evolution Shards and Wild Shards among Shop items, sometimes as paid offers and sometimes inside event stores. In the current season, the Mirror Evolution is available from November 9 through the Royal Market, which runs on Crown Tokens earned from events and the Shop. Supercell says the market's most sought-after items unlock after 3,000 Crown Tokens, so start collecting tokens early in the month.

The November 2026 Evolutions: Giant and Mirror

The King vs. King season added two Evolutions on November 2, 2026. Evolved Giant activates after one cycle. When he drops to half his hitpoints he becomes enraged, gaining movement and attack speed and leaving Rage puddles behind him that boost the troops following him. Unlock him as a choice reward on the premium Pass Royale track or with Wild Shards.

Evolved Mirror activates after two cycles and summons the evolved form of the last card you played, one level higher, even if you never unlocked that card's Evolution yourself. Played after a card with no Evolution, it simply works as a normal Mirror. It is available with Wild Shards or through the Royal Market from November 9. Because Mirror depends on what you played last, it is a strong pick only if your deck already runs a cheap Evolution you can reliably cycle in front of it.

A useful planning note: in February 2026 Supercell said that from June onward new releases would rotate between Heroes, Evolutions and new cards. That is why some months add no Evolution at all, and why banking a few Wild Shards for the next one is sensible.

Spending Shards So None Go to Waste

The most common mistake is collecting shards for an Evolution you already own. When that happens, the extra shards are converted into copies of the regular card, and the conversion depends on your Arena. The table below shows Supercell's published rates per extra shard.

Those cards are not worthless, but they are far less valuable than an Evolution you are missing. A few habits help:

  1. Pick one Evolution for each special slot you actually use, and finish those before branching out. A half-built Evolution does nothing in battle.
  2. Save Wild Shards for Evolutions that rarely show up as specific shards, and let the random sources (boxes and chests) cover common ones.
  3. Check whether a free event Evolution is coming before you spend Wild Shards on the season's new card. Recent seasons have often put the new Evolution in an album or market.
  4. Keep upgrading the cards you play. Every upgrade raises your Collection Level, which moves you toward the next Evolution Box milestone. Our page on level caps and upgrade costs lists what each level costs.

If you play Ranked, it is also worth knowing which Evolutions are strong in the current meta before you commit, since balance changes arrive every season. Our rundown of how Ranked works now explains the deck slot rules there.

Want an Account With Evolutions Already Unlocked?

Unlocking 45 Evolutions at a few shards a month is a multi-year project, and some players would rather start with a finished collection. The store's Clash Royale page lists accounts from marketplace sellers, with details such as King Tower level, trophies, card count and the number of Evolutions shown on each listing. Supercell's Terms of Service state that players may not purchase, sell, rent or give away their account, so read those terms before you decide.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Evolution Shards do you need to evolve a card?

Six. You can use six shards for that specific card, Wild Shards, or a mix of both. A Wild Shard counts as one shard toward any Evolution you pick.

Can you get Evolution Shards for free?

Yes. The free Pass Royale track includes Wild Shards, Collection Level milestones include Evolution Boxes, Trophy Road has shard rewards, and many seasons offer a full Evolution through an album or event store at no cost.

What is in a Clash Royale Evolution Box?

Each Evolution Box contains one, two or six Evolution Shards of a random Evolution. You earn them through events and Collection Level milestones.

How many Wild Shards can you hold?

Up to six unassigned Wild Shards, according to Supercell's Magic Items article. That is enough for exactly one full Evolution.

What happens to extra shards for an Evolution you already have?

They convert automatically into copies of the regular card. The amount depends on your Arena and the card's rarity, from 100 Common cards per shard in Arenas 1 to 10 up to 1,250 in Arena 28 and above.

How do you get the Giant and Mirror Evolutions?

Giant Evolution is a choice reward on the premium Pass Royale track or can be unlocked with Wild Shards. Mirror Evolution can be unlocked with Wild Shards or through the Royal Market from November 9, 2026.
