Blood of Dawnwalker Best Armor: Top Legendary Sets

The best armor in The Blood of Dawnwalker is the Arbiter set, forged during the side quest A Bulwark Against Darkness: its chestpiece ties for the highest toughness of any chest armor and boosts sword, claw and Witchcraft damage at once, so it works for both of Coen's forms. For specialized builds, Ambrus's Cuirass, Ancient Hero's Armour and Isbrand's Plate are the strongest alternatives. Below is how armor works, how to forge the Arbiter set, and a comparison of every legendary chestpiece.

How Armor Works: Weight, Toughness and Presets

Every armor piece has a weight class (light, medium or heavy), a toughness value (GamingBolt measured every legendary piece at level 50), and a set of percentage bonuses. Coen wears four armor slots: chestpiece, trousers, boots and bracers, plus an amulet and two rings. Among legendary pieces of the same weight the toughness numbers sit close together, so the bonuses are what separate a good piece from a great one.

Weight is the first thing to plan for. Heavier armor carries stat penalties until you learn Second Skin I and II in the Swordmastery tree, which remove the penalties for medium and then heavy armor. If you are wearing heavy legendary pieces without those perks, you are paying for the armor in stamina and mobility. The other system to understand is equipment presets. Coen has separate day and night loadouts. Since update 1.1 on October 22, 2026, the same item can be equipped in both presets at once, so you no longer need two copies or a manual swap at dusk. The same patch rebalanced upgrade costs, especially at higher levels, which makes upgrading one favorite set cheaper than it was at launch.

Finally, the pre-order bonus. Every edition came with the Sangoran Wayfarer's Armor Set for early buyers, but Bandai Namco confirms all players can obtain it later in the game. It is a cosmetic head start rather than an endgame set.

Best Overall: The Arbiter Set

KeenGamer ranks the Enhanced Armour of the Arbiter first among all legendary chestpieces, and Method uses the Arbiter shin guards and boots in its sword and Witchcraft builds. The chestpiece has 91 base armor at a weight of 10 and gives +6 percent Weapon Damage, +6 percent Claw Damage, +6 percent Witchcraft Ability Damage and +6 percent Activation Charge Restoration from Actions. That spread is the reason it ranks first: it helps whichever form Coen is in, so you can leave it on through the whole day and night cycle.

You do not find the Arbiter set; you build it. The steps, as KeenGamer describes them, are:

1. Collect the four components scattered around Vale Sangora: a Relic of a Saint, a Bundle of Silk Threads, a Flask of Quicksilver and the Moult of a Large Lizard.
2. Take them to the Uriashi Hermit blacksmith in northwestern Briar Sloughs.
3. Begin the forging ritual, defeat the wolves that attack, then defeat the spectral bear, the Ursine Apparition.
4. Collect the full set: the Enhanced Armour, Bracers, Shin Guards and Boots of the Arbiter.

Completing the quest also earns the Arbiter's Regalia bronze trophy. On Steam, 26.8 percent of players had it when we checked the global achievement stats, so roughly three in four Steam players had not forged the strongest armor in the game at that point. Every Legendary Chestpiece Compared

The chest slot carries the biggest bonuses, so it is where your build identity shows. GamingBolt measured every legendary piece at level 50; the table below shows the chestpieces, with the quest each comes from.

Toughness only tells half the story. KeenGamer's bonus breakdown shows what each one is for:

• Ambrus's Cuirass: -12 percent attack stamina cost and +12 percent activation charge restoration from both attacks and perfect blocks. Ideal for aggressive sword play.
• Ancient Hero's Armour: +13 percent human health restoration plus Witchcraft damage and bonus damage against supernatural enemies.
• Coat of Darkened Scales: +13 percent maximum vampiric health and +12 percent maximum stamina, a strong all-rounder that is easy to miss.
• Bakir's Armour: cheaper blocks and dodges and more stamina from perfect blocks, built for parry-heavy players.
• Pieter's Garb: light armor with +13 percent maximum human health and weapon critical bonuses, which is why Method puts it in its swordsman build.

The smaller slots follow the same pattern. In GamingBolt's level 50 numbers, the heavy Ancient Greaves and the Arbiter Shin Guards share the top trousers value at 571, ahead of the medium Isbrand's Greaves at 454. For boots, the Enhanced Boots of the Arbiter lead at 392, just ahead of the Ancient Footwear at 378, which sits in the final room of Xanthe's Excavations: Bloodied Dagger and needs Compel Soul to claim. The Ancient Hero's Vambraces and the Arbiter bracers tie for the best bracers at 310.

If you are short on legendary pieces early on, the Mercenary's line is the budget route. The Mercenary's Greaves, Boots and Vambraces are light pieces sold by armourers, with KeenGamer pointing to the Svartrau City armourer for the greaves, the Rebel HQ in Silberkreis for the boots and the Tantari armourer for the vambraces. Merchant stock is randomized, so check back if a piece is missing. They trail the quest rewards on toughness, but they let a light-armor build fill every slot with a legendary item long before the late-game quests open up.

Best Armor for Vampire Nights

At night, the question is less about toughness and more about how fast Coen recovers vampiric health. Isbrand's Plate, a medium chestpiece found during Lacra's quest Hive and Seek, gives +13 percent maximum vampiric health, +15 percent blood drinking restoration and bonuses to claw critical chance and damage. Method's vampire build pairs it with Isbrand's Greaves, Vrakhir's Treads and either the Arbiter bracers or Wolven Bracers.

The Wolven Bracers come from the chest in the wolf cave during Of Wolves and Men, and they suit the claw-focused version of the build. The Vrakhiric Bracers are another night option, sitting in a chest in Bakir's treasure room at Lunar Manor after you defeat him in The Lunar Game. If your build relies on feeding, it also helps to understand the meter that feeding fills; drinking blood raises Corruption, which is what unlocks the stronger Vampirism tiers.

Best Armor for Swords and Witchcraft by Day

Daytime Coen is a human swordsman or witch, and both builds want different things from their armor. Sword players get the most from Pieter's Garb or Ambrus's Cuirass with the Arbiter legs and boots, and the Ancient Hero's Vambraces from Xanthe's side content. Casters want Ancient Hero's Armour or the light Runic Enchantment chestpiece, which KeenGamer lists with +4 percent magical damage reduction, +6 percent Witchcraft damage and +5 percent lifesteal from attacks, plus the Ancient Greaves.

Missable Armor and How Not to Lose It

A few legendary pieces are easy to lose for good. These are the ones to watch:

• Isbrand's Plate: during Hive and Seek, open the chest on the right side of Isbrand's chamber before you interact with him, because talking to him moves Coen elsewhere.
• Bakir's Armour: loot Bakir after the fight and before you leave the area for good.
• Ambrus's Cuirass: it only drops if you raise Ambrus's anger to maximum through Court Activities, which unlocks The Gilded Gauntlet.
• Ancient Greaves: KeenGamer says you must choose to destroy the Font of Life in Stronger Than Achilles and that the other choice can lock the greaves out, while GamingBolt lists them as a reward from either Stronger Than Achilles or Where Old Devils Lie. Save before that choice and check for yourself.

The safest habit is a manual save before every boss and every major choice. With dozens of manual slots available, there is no reason to rely on autosaves for legendary gear.
