Your account level in Apex Legends is the permanent XP level shown on your profile, and it now runs all the way to 2,000: a base tier of 500 levels followed by three prestige tiers of 500 levels each. Every level from 4 onward pays 600 Legend Tokens, and across the whole journey the game hands out 544 free Apex Packs. As of November 2026 the level also matters for one practical reason, because Season 31 made level 20 the only requirement for Ranked again. This guide explains how the system works, what each stage rewards, where XP actually comes from, and the habits that level you up fastest.
We used EA Help's levels, currency and Ranked articles, the official Apex Legends FAQ and the Season 31 Ranked Roadmap, all checked in November 2026.
How the Account Level System Works
As you play, you earn experience (XP), and your total XP sets your level. The maximum is level 2,000, which EA Help describes as four tiers of 500. When you reach level 500 of a tier, your displayed level resets to 1 and you move into the next prestige tier; after level 500 of the fourth tier, which is level 2,000 overall, your level stops climbing.

Three details are worth knowing early. Your account level never resets between seasons; only your Battle Pass level does, every half season when a new pass launches. Your account level is completely separate from your Ranked tier, so leveling up never changes whether you are Gold or Platinum, though XP you earn in Ranked matches does count toward your account level. And you earn a new level badge design every 20 levels, which is the visible marker most players look at on a banner.
Because cross progression ties everything to your EA Account, your level is shared across PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2. If you are not sure your platforms are connected properly, our EA account guide covers linking and the mistakes that can split your progress.
What Each Level Pays Out
The rewards are front loaded in the base tier and then shift to a different rhythm in the prestige tiers. EA's numbers are specific:
| Levels | Pack cadence |
|---|---|
| 2 to 20 | One pack every level |
| 22 to 300 | One pack every two levels |
| 305 to 500 | One pack every five levels |
| Each prestige tier (500 levels) | 115 packs, starting at one every ten levels and rising to one every two levels in the final 100 |
That adds up to 199 packs in the base tier and 115 in each of the three prestige tiers, for 544 in total from level 2 to level 2,000. The inverted cadence in the prestige tiers is deliberate: rewards speed up as you approach the end of each tier, which keeps the long middle stretches from feeling empty.
On top of the packs, every level from 4 onward awards 600 Legend Tokens, and EA says you keep earning tokens from match XP even after hitting the cap. Legend Tokens can unlock Legends, buy recolors of Legendary skins you already own when they appear in the Store, and reroll Daily Challenges. They cannot be bought, gifted or found in packs; leveling is the only source.
Each pack contains three items, and EA's bad luck protection means you cannot open more than 30 packs without a Legendary item. Every eligible pack also has a 0.045 percent chance of dropping Heirloom Shards, so the 544 level-up packs are, for most players, their main route toward an Heirloom. Our Heirloom guide explains how the 500 pack counter works.
Where Your XP Actually Comes From
EA Help lists the main sources of XP in a match: winning, finishing in the top five, killing enemies, killing members of the champion squad, and becoming either the champion squad or the match kill leader. It also says the longer your squad survives, the more XP you earn, that reviving and respawning teammates earns XP, and that playing with friends gives bonus XP.

Survival time is the quiet giant in that list. A careful match that reaches the final circles earns more than a frantic one that ends in the first ring with two kills, which is why the fastest levelers tend to play steadier games than the fastest fraggers. EA's currency guide reinforces the same points, suggesting you avoid fights that could send you back to the lobby too soon, play with friends to boost the time survived payout, and play Trios to earn more XP at the end of matches.
The Battle Pass is the other major lever. XP you earn counts toward both your account level and your Battle Pass level at the same time, and Daily and Weekly Challenges add stars toward the pass. EA's currency guide recommends grabbing the Battle Pass and working through Daily Challenges as one of the main ways to maximize XP. Our Battle Pass guide covers the current Cipher pass and its tiers.
The Fastest Way to Level Up
Put the official sources together and a clear routine emerges.
- Queue as a full premade trio. Friends give bonus XP and a coordinated squad survives longer, which is the single biggest XP multiplier available.
- Clear your Daily Challenges first. You get five new dailies each day. Reroll the ones that do not fit your playstyle; the first reroll each day is free and later ones cost Legend Tokens.
- Prioritize top five finishes over early kills. Top five placements and wins are listed XP sources, and they also mean more survival time.
- Revive and respawn your teammates. Both earn XP and both keep the squad alive for the survival payout.
- Hunt the champion squad when the chance appears. Killing members of the previous match's champion squad is an explicit XP bonus.
- Do not count on Private Matches. EA Help says Private Match does not earn XP or other progression, so custom lobbies with friends will not move your level.
Bot Royale Evolved is a useful option for newer players: it mixes human and bot squads, still progresses XP, the Battle Pass and challenges, but does not count toward badges or stats. If you are chasing the 20 bomb or 4K damage badges at the same time, play standard Trios instead; our badge guide explains which modes count.
Spending What Leveling Gives You
Leveling rewards are only useful if you spend them well, and a few rules from EA's own guides help you avoid waste.
Apex Packs never give you a duplicate cosmetic. If you already own every item in the rarity that rolls, you receive Crafting Metals of that rarity instead, and each of the two standard drops in a pack has a 25 percent chance to be Crafting Metals rather than a cosmetic. Metals let you craft exactly the item you want from the Legends or Armory tabs, at 30 for Common, 60 for Rare, 400 for Epic and 1,200 for Legendary items. Mythic and Iconic items cannot be crafted, and a crafted item cannot be broken back down, so save metals for skins you will actually use rather than spending them on the first thing that catches your eye.
Legend Tokens are best kept for new Legends and the occasional recolor. In Apex Coins, a Legend unlock is listed at 750, so every Legend you unlock with tokens instead is premium currency you keep for something else. Rerolling Daily Challenges is the other token sink, and it is worth it whenever a challenge would force you into a mode or Legend you would never otherwise play, because a completed daily feeds both your pass and your level.
Why Level 20 Matters in Season 31
For most new players the first meaningful milestone is level 20, because that is the Ranked requirement. Respawn's Ranked Roadmap for Season 31 removed the Road to Ranked challenges and moved access back to account level 20 alone, explaining that the challenges took some players too much time and effort without being the skill check they were meant to be.
Levels 2 to 20 are also the richest stretch for packs, with one every level, so the early game delivers both a steady flow of cosmetics and the key to Ranked at roughly the same time. Once you are there, our Season 31 Ranked guide explains entry costs and how to avoid losing RP in your first matches.
A final note on multipliers. The official FAQ still describes Battle Pass XP Boosts: each one adds a 10 percent bonus to your Top 5 Finish score, five are available in a pass for a maximum of 50 percent, and when you party up the bonuses stack up to 200 percent per player. They activate automatically and last for the whole Battle Pass, which is one more reason the premade trio is the backbone of fast leveling.
Want the Levels Done for You?
Hundreds of levels take hundreds of hours, and many players only care about reaching a particular milestone or stocking up on Legend Tokens to unlock a new Legend. The store's Apex Legends Account Leveling covers account levels together with the Apex Packs and Legend Tokens those levels award, and its product page notes a very small and unpredictable chance of an Heirloom coming out of those packs. After purchase you are contacted for your account details and platform, and a booster is assigned to the order.
See the account leveling page for the level ranges, or browse every service on the Apex Legends boosting hub, which lists PlayStation, Xbox and PC.
