The strongest heroes in AFK Journey as of November 2026 are a 22-name SS tier led by Eryndor, Senea, Mehira, Solise, Pandora, Saida, Shemira, Odie and Phraesto, with Graveborn and Hypogean heroes taking the largest share of the top spots. Below we lay out the current tier list, explain what each tier actually means for your roster, and flag the heroes whose value changes a lot between story stages, Dream Realm and PvP.
We checked this against Pocket Gamer's tier list (updated November 4, 2026), the official AFK Journey patch notes on the Farlight website, and the Prydwen Institute guides in November 2026.
Where the Top Heroes Stand in November 2026
The most recent dated ranking we could find is Pocket Gamer's list, refreshed on November 4, 2026 with the newest additions Baden and Estrilda. It is built primarily around story mode, which means AFK Stages and the campaign, and it adds notes below each tier about how heroes perform in Dream Realm and PvP. That framing matters: a hero who clears stages comfortably can still be a weak pick in Arena, and the reverse is true as well.

The top tier is crowded. Pocket Gamer places 22 heroes in SS and describes them as the ones the community considers the very best right now, able to carry story progress from the early stages into the late game. Graveborn is the most common faction at that level, with Eryndor, Senea, Isabella, Shemira, Ludovic, Cecia and Thoran all listed. Hypogean heroes follow closely: Mehira, Kulu, Saida, Phraesto and Reinier. The remaining SS slots go to Wilders (Solise, Faramor, Lenya, Hewynn), Lightbearers (Sonja, Vala, Rowan), the Mauler marksman Odie, and two Dimensional heroes, Pandora and the crossover pair Taichi and Agumon.
Two points stand out. First, several heroes who have been around since launch still hold SS status, including Shemira, Odie, Rowan, Hewynn, Cecia and Thoran, so an older account is rarely starting from zero. Second, the list is not just damage dealers. Supports such as Isabella, Solise, Rowan, Ludovic and Hewynn sit at the very top, which reflects how much a strong healer or buffer decides whether a team survives long enough to win.
The Full SS Tier by Class and Faction
If you are planning wishlists or deciding where your Acorns go, it helps to see the top tier sorted by role. The table below copies the class and faction labels Pocket Gamer uses for each SS-tier hero.
| Hero | Class | Faction |
|---|---|---|
| Eryndor | Mage | Graveborn |
| Senea | Marksman | Graveborn |
| Mehira | Mage | Hypogean |
| Solise | Support | Wilder |
| Taichi and Agumon | Warrior | Dimensional |
| Kulu | Marksman | Hypogean |
| Pandora | Support | Dimensional |
| Faramor | Rogue | Wilder |
| Isabella | Support | Graveborn |
| Saida | Rogue | Hypogean |
| Shemira | Mage | Graveborn |
| Odie | Marksman | Mauler |
| Sonja | Warrior | Lightbearer |
| Phraesto | Tank | Hypogean |
| Vala | Rogue | Lightbearer |
| Rowan | Support | Lightbearer |
| Lenya | Rogue | Wilder |
| Ludovic | Support | Graveborn |
| Cecia | Marksman | Graveborn |
| Hewynn | Support | Wilder |
| Thoran | Tank | Graveborn |
| Reinier | Support | Hypogean |
Read the table as a shopping list for roles rather than a ranking within the tier. Only two tanks appear (Phraesto and Thoran), so whichever one you own becomes very valuable, and Thoran is far easier to get because he is a standard Graveborn hero rather than a Hypogean. If you are still working out why a third Graveborn on your bench matters so much, our breakdown of how factions and faction bonuses work covers the stat bonus you get from stacking three heroes of one faction.
The S Tier: Strong Picks That Rarely Let You Down
Pocket Gamer's S tier is even longer than SS, with 38 names. These heroes are strong in story mode, and the site notes that almost all of them are at least good in Dream Realm and PvP as well. In practice, S tier is where most players will find their second and third carries, their backup tank and the specialists that solve a particular stage.

Tanks are better represented here than at the top: Thador, Gunnar, Alna, Daimon, Antandra, Granny Dhanie, Ulmus and Temesia are all listed. For damage, the S tier includes Aster, Galahad, Nazrik, Indris, Bonnie, Cyran, Carolina, Dionel, Cryonaia, Alsa, Lyca, Viperian, Talene and Bryon. Supports and utility heroes include Contess, Hammie, Velara, Elijah and Lailah, Lorsan, Koko and Smokey and Meerky.
The site also calls out a few heroes for specific modes. Korin is singled out for Dream Realm, while Scarlita and Eironn are flagged for PvP. That lines up with how those heroes have been used for a long time: Eironn's start-of-battle crowd control is a classic Arena opener, and Scarlita's shields have been part of stall teams since the early seasons.
One practical takeaway: Elijah and Lailah sit in S, not SS, on this list, yet Prydwen's long-standing advice is that they should be the first Celestial or Hypogean hero you buy from the Guild Store. A tier list ranks power in one context; a buying guide ranks value for your whole account. Both can be right at the same time.
A, B and C Tiers, and the Exceptions Worth Knowing
The A tier holds 29 heroes that Pocket Gamer describes as good choices for story mode, with some scaling better than others. It includes Aurora, Gwyneth, Sylphira, Evie, Shadewing, Athalia, Pang, Baelran, Natsu, Lucy, Hugin, Sinbad, Nara, Arden, Cassadee, Seth, Niru, Marilee and Damian. The notes are useful here: Seth and Damian are recommended for PvP and Dream Realm, and Marilee is described as much better in later stages than early on.
The B tier is labeled average in the bigger picture but still useful early and in the middle of the game. Baden, Estrilda, Walker, Karma, Kazim, Lamentis, Frieren, Himmel, Lucca, Dunlingr, Valen, Callan, Parisa and Lucius are among them. Two notes matter. Parisa is described as solid in every mode, so a B rating undersells her if you already have copies. Valen is strong early but weak later, so he is a fine starter who should not get your rare resources.
The C tier is short: Kruger, Lumont, Fay, Atalanta, Salazer and Satrana. Pocket Gamer calls these heroes fillers, with one big exception. Kruger is listed as a must-have for Dream Realm despite his low story ranking. If you only read the letter next to his name you would skip one of the most useful boss heroes in the game, which is exactly why mode notes matter more than the letter grade.
New Arrivals and What the 1.8.2 Update Changed
The current season is Veil of Memories, which opened on September 23, 2026 with version 1.8.1. The official version 1.8.2 notes, posted for the October 29 maintenance, add a new Graveborn hero, Baden, released after the update, and schedule a new Lightbearer hero for November 13. The same notes add a Level 2 Enhance Force for Harak, who already sits in S tier, and add Soul Sigil exchanges for two more heroes to the Season Store.
New heroes usually arrive with a rate-up banner and plenty of hype, but Pocket Gamer currently ranks both Baden and Estrilda in B for story mode. That does not mean they are bad; it means that for pushing AFK Stages, the established SS and S heroes still do more. If you are deciding whether to pull, compare what the new hero adds to your existing teams instead of reacting to the banner. Our guide to building your best teams for each mode shows how a single new hero slots into an existing core.
Enhance Force upgrades are the other moving part. These Level 2 upgrades are the developer's way of reviving older heroes: according to Prydwen, you need the hero at Supreme+ and then spend Shadow Essence, which you earn through season milestones. When an older hero gets one, their rating can jump between updates, so a hero you benched months ago can become worth using again.
How to Use a Tier List Without Wasting Resources
AFK Journey is unusually forgiving about experimenting, because the Resonating Hall levels your whole roster to the level of your five Hands of Resonance, and gear is shared by class rather than tied to one hero. Trying a new hero in a team costs nothing. Ascending them, on the other hand, is where mistakes get expensive, and the tier list should guide that decision more than any other.
- Spend dupes and Acorns on heroes who are rated highly in the mode you actually play most. A hero who is SS for stages but filler in Arena is a poor investment for a PvP-focused player.
- Prioritize heroes that appear in several modes at once. Shemira, Odie and Ludovic have stayed relevant for a long time precisely because they work almost everywhere.
- Check the mode notes before writing anyone off. Kruger, Parisa and Marilee are the clearest examples of heroes whose letter grade hides real value.
- Be patient with Exclusive Equipment materials, which are scarce. Our Exclusive Equipment priority guide explains which upgrade levels are worth chasing first.
- Plan copies, not just pulls. Our ascension guide lists how many dupes and Acorns each tier costs, which tells you whether a hero is realistic to max.
Finally, remember that any tier list is a snapshot. The game adds heroes, Enhance Force upgrades and season mechanics every few weeks, and a ranking dated even two months ago can be misleading. When a source does not show a date or a version, treat it as a rough guide only.
Starting With a Stronger Roster
Building toward the SS tier takes months of pulls and Acorns. If you would rather begin with a roster that already includes some of these heroes, the AFK Journey page on our store lists player accounts from sellers; the selection changes daily, so compare what each listing actually includes. Before you go that route, note that Farlight's Terms of Service state that players have no ownership or property interest in their account and that all rights to it belong to Farlight.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who is the best hero in AFK Journey right now?
There is no single answer, but Pocket Gamer's November 4, 2026 list places 22 heroes in SS, including Eryndor, Senea, Mehira, Pandora, Saida, Shemira and Odie. The best one for you depends on the mode and on which faction core you already run.
Is the tier list different for PvP and Dream Realm?
Yes. The Pocket Gamer list is built mainly for story mode and adds notes for other modes. Kruger, for example, is rated C for stages but described as a must-have for Dream Realm, while Scarlita and Eironn are flagged as PvP picks.
Are Baden and Estrilda worth pulling?
Both are new this season and both currently sit in B tier for story mode on Pocket Gamer's list. Pull for them if they fill a gap in a team you already use, not just because the banner is new.
Are A-Level heroes worth investing in?
Yes. Several A-Level heroes rank highly, and Prydwen notes that A-Level heroes can be ascended to the same top tiers as S-Level heroes. They need more copies, but many are central to the meta.
How often does the AFK Journey meta change?
Seasons last around four months, and smaller version updates in between add heroes and Enhance Force upgrades. Expect noticeable shifts at least every few weeks, and always check the date on any ranking you use.
Which tank is best for a new account?
Thoran is the most accessible tank in the current SS tier because he is a standard Graveborn hero. Phraesto is also SS but is a Hypogean, which makes him much harder to obtain and ascend.
