AFK Journey Homestead Guide: Buildings, Requests, Tips

The Homestead in AFK Journey is a base-building and player-housing mode set in Avalon, where you harvest crops, ore, logs and essences, turn them into products for visiting characters' requests, and use the rewards to upgrade your buildings and decorate your land. It never resets between seasons, so every upgrade you make is permanent, and as of November 2026 it is also the first system new players are guided into.

For this guide we went through every Homestead entry in the official AFK Journey patch notes from version 1.4.3 to 1.8.2 and the related designer talks, together with Prydwen's Homestead and Beginner guides, in November 2026.

When the Homestead Unlocks and Why It Matters

The Homestead launched on August 8, 2025 at 00:00 UTC with version 1.4.3. At launch it unlocked after the main quest Franz the Suspect, and you entered it from an icon in the top-right corner of the screen. The developer stressed one point in those notes: Homestead progress is independent of seasonal content and does not reset when a season starts or ends.

Since version 1.6.1 in January 2026, the Homestead is no longer a side feature you find later. That update fully reworked the early game so that new player quests and story are integrated with the Homestead, and adjusted building upgrade requirements, rewards, quests, land unlocks and crafting to fit. Prydwen's beginner guide now notes that new players are guided into the Homestead first. If you are just starting, our beginner guide shows how it fits alongside AFK Stages in your first days.

The reason to take it seriously is the rewards. When the developer raised the building cap in version 1.5.1, it said Homestead progress can earn Diamonds, Invite Letters, Stellar Crystals and Rosy Jewels, alongside free decorations. Because none of that progress resets, the Homestead is one of the few places where effort keeps paying off across every season.

The Buildings and the Production Chain

Prydwen groups Homestead buildings into three families, and understanding the chain between them is most of the game.

  • Harvesters gather raw materials: Mills and Fields grow crops with different growth times, Mines produce Raw Ore, Logging Sites produce Logs, and the Elemental Altar produces Leyline Essences.
  • Refiners process those materials: the Lumbermill handles Logs, the Ore Refinery handles Raw Ore and the Essence Crucible handles Leyline Essences.
  • Producers make finished products: the Kitchen uses crops and Lumbermill materials, the Alchemy Workshop uses essences and refined materials, and the Forge uses Raw Ore and Lumbermill materials. Producing consumes stamina, which refills daily and can also be earned from request rewards and Homestead quests.

At the center sits the Radiant Spire, the heart of your Homestead, which you upgrade to unlock more buildings. It was called the Divine Shard until version 1.6.1 renamed it, gave it new visuals and let you move it freely. Version 1.5.1 raised its level cap to 20 and added new crops, materials and products, so later spire levels open up longer production chains. Other utility buildings include the Gate of Avalon for visitors, the Home Cairn where visitors leave messages, the Decor Workshop for crafting decorations, and, since 1.6.1, the Hamster House where you collect AFK rewards.

Requests: The Engine of Homestead Progress

Characters from your journey visit the Homestead and ask for specific products. Prydwen describes fulfilling these requests as essential, because they pay out Wish Points and Ancient Coins, the resources you need to upgrade buildings.

  • If a request is impractical, the Give Up option rerolls it, and a replacement appears after five minutes.
  • Fulfilling requests also builds toward daily rewards that include Diamonds, Lucky Keys for the Lucky Flip, stamina and Mirage Orbs, which the Decor Workshop uses to craft decorations.
  • Higher-quality products, shown by their star rating, help you claim those daily rewards faster.

Version 1.6.1 added the production booster, an item that raises your final crafting score in the Kitchen, Forge or Alchemy Workshop, which makes higher-star products easier to hit. Prydwen links community spreadsheets for the most efficient production setups at Radiant Spire levels 1 to 10 and 11 to 20 if you want to optimize further. A good habit is to keep a small buffer of common products on hand so that new requests can be filled immediately instead of waiting on a full production cycle.

Dream Pavilion, Hourglasses and Other Boosts

Several systems speed up production once the basics are running. The most important is the Dream Pavilion, added in version 1.6.1. According to Prydwen, it activates Dreams that temporarily raise the production rate of a particular type of harvester. You can activate two Dreams a day: the first right away, the second after completing a Dream Objective. Any Dreams you leave unclaimed activate automatically the next time you log in, so a missed day is not a total loss. Despite the name, it has nothing to do with the Dream Realm boss mode, which our Dream Realm teams guide covers.

  • Homestead hourglasses grant a fixed period's worth of Homestead resources instantly.
  • Harvest All collects everything from your Fields, Logging Sites, Mines and Elemental Altars in one tap.
  • Mystic Collection gained an effect that reduces Homestead activity time.
  • Waystones are decorations you can place anywhere and use to teleport around a large Homestead.

Homestead items also show up in other rewards. The official 1.6.1 notes, for example, sent 3,000 Homestead Stamina to existing players as part of that update's compensation, spread over three days. Stamina is usually the limiting resource, so treat any stamina reward as valuable.

Darkswarm Invasions

The Homestead is not purely peaceful. Prydwen explains that building, upgrading and even using your buildings attracts Hypofiends and raises an Aggression Level. When it maxes out, a Darkswarm Invasion begins: Hypofiends attack and reduce the efficiency of your harvesters until you defeat them, and you have a limited number of attempts for each Hypofiend battle.

  • You can ask other players for help, and since version 1.5.4 the game sends a help request automatically when an invasion starts.
  • Defending your own or other players' Homesteads earns Contribution Points toward weekly contribution rewards, so helping friends pays off too.
  • Since version 1.7.1, formations for Darkswarm boss battles and normal battles are saved separately, so setting one no longer overwrites the other.

Treat invasion fights like any other battle and bring a balanced team. Our best teams guide covers the tank, carry and support structure that works in most PvE fights.

Decorating, Sharing and the Social Side

Decorations have no functional purpose, as Prydwen puts it, but a large share of Homestead updates have gone into them, along with social features:

  • Homestead Chat (version 1.4.4) adds Main and Visitor channels so you can see who is visiting and talk in real time.
  • Homestead Memory (version 1.5.1) is a photo mode with adjustable camera position and angle. Version 1.8.2 added a mode that lets you move around while taking photos.
  • Treasure Trove and Arcane Atelier (version 1.5.3) let you redeem decorations and draw decoration sets; 1.8.2 added an autumn-themed set to the Arcane Atelier pool.
  • Arcane Designs (version 1.5.4) saves the layout of a 40 by 40 tile area and generates share codes, and Craft All helps you build a shared design quickly.
  • Phonograph and Avalon Creator (version 1.6.2) let you change your Homestead music and earn a creator title when other players like or save your shared designs.
  • New land arrived in versions 1.5.3 and 1.6.3, expanding the borders of Avalon.

Some events also reward Homestead items. Code trackers list an expired promotional code called AFKHomestead0130, and our codes guide explains where new codes are announced so you catch the next one while it is live.

A Simple Daily Homestead Routine

Most of the Homestead runs on timers, so a short, consistent check-in beats occasional long sessions. A routine built from the systems above looks like this:

  1. Claim your first Dream at the Dream Pavilion on the harvester type you need most, and note the objective that unlocks the second.
  2. Use Harvest All to collect from Fields, Logging Sites, Mines and Elemental Altars, then restart production so nothing sits idle.
  3. Send raw materials through the Lumbermill, Ore Refinery and Essence Crucible so your producers have inputs ready.
  4. Check visitor requests, fill what you can, and reroll the ones that would tie up your stamina for too long.
  5. Spend remaining stamina in the Kitchen, Forge or Alchemy Workshop on products that open requests or upgrades.
  6. Put Wish Points and Ancient Coins into the next building upgrade, with the Radiant Spire as the priority when it gates new buildings.
  7. Answer any Darkswarm help requests from friends for Contribution Points before you log off.

A short daily pass through this loop moves a Homestead along steadily, and because nothing resets at season end, the gains compound for as long as you play.

Want a Head Start?

A high-level Homestead and a strong hero roster both take months of daily play. If you would rather begin with an account that is further along, the AFK Journey listings on our store come from sellers and change daily, so check exactly what each includes. Farlight's Terms of Service also state that virtual items and currency cannot be sold or transferred, which applies to everything an account holds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Homestead reset each season?

No. The developer confirmed when it launched that Homestead progress is independent of seasonal content and is not reset when a season starts or ends.

How do I unlock the Homestead?

At launch it unlocked after the main quest Franz the Suspect. Since version 1.6.1, new players are introduced to it through the opening quests, so most accounts reach it almost immediately.

What is the max level of the Radiant Spire?

The cap was raised to 20 in version 1.5.1, when the building was still called the Divine Shard. Version 1.6.1 renamed it the Radiant Spire.

How do I get more Homestead stamina?

Stamina refills daily, and you can earn more from request daily rewards and Homestead quests. Homestead hourglasses and event compensation can add more.

How do I stop Darkswarm Invasions?

You cannot avoid them entirely, since building and production raise the Aggression Level. Defeat the Hypofiends when they arrive, and ask friends for help if a fight is too hard.

Can I copy another player's Homestead design?

Yes. Arcane Designs lets players share a 40 by 40 tile layout as a code, and you can apply shared designs or official templates and use Craft All to build them.
