Yes, Where Winds Meet has full crossplay: PC players on Steam, Epic and the Xbox app, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players, and iOS and Android players can all play together, and it is switched on by default. Cross-progression works too, but only if you link your accounts before creating a character on the second platform, which is the one mistake that cannot be undone. Here is how both systems work as of November 2026, including the Xbox version that arrived in June.
We checked this against the Steam and Xbox store listings, the official Xbox launch announcement, Gematsu's mobile launch report, MeinMMO's crossplay explainer and the official October 2026 patch notes.
Which Platforms Play Together
Where Winds Meet reached each platform at a different time, but every version now shares the same servers and the same updates. The Steam page lists crossplay and cross-progression across Xbox, PS5, PC and mobile, and the Xbox store listing says the same: cross-play is available on Xbox, PS5, PC and mobile.

- PC and PS5: the global launch was November 14, 2025, on Steam, the Epic Games Store and PlayStation 5.
- iOS and Android: Gematsu reported the mobile versions launching in the west on December 12, 2025, with cross-play and shared progress with the PS5 and PC versions.
- Xbox: the official announcement put the launch on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and Xbox Cloud at June 8, 2026, 2:00 AM (UTC+8), which was still June 7 in the Americas. That is why the Xbox store shows a June 7 release date.
The game is free to play on every platform. The Steam listing describes monetization as limited to cosmetics, and the Xbox store lists Echo Beads, battle passes and a Monthly Fund as optional add-ons.
One historical note: Where Winds Meet launched in China first, with the PC version on December 27, 2024, and mobile following that January, according to Gematsu. That release runs separately from the global version described here.
How Crossplay Works and Whether You Can Turn It Off
Crossplay needs no setup. MeinMMO explains that you do not need to link any accounts to play with people on other platforms, and that it is enabled by default. At launch, PC players could not disable it, while PS5 players could. MeinMMO could not confirm at the time whether the mobile versions would get a toggle, so check your own settings if that matters to you.
In practice, crossplay means the people you meet in Online Mode and the friends you group with can be on any device. A PS5 player can invite a friend on a phone or an Xbox exactly the way they would invite another PS5 player. Our co-op guide covers the invite menus and party sizes.
Platform is not the only thing that decides who you meet, though. The official October 29, 2026 patch notes refer to separate server regions, including Yunya (Europe and Middle East servers), Yougu (US East and South America servers), Linhe (US West servers) and Canglang. If you plan to play with a regular group, check which region they use before you create a character, since the region is a separate choice from your device.
Cross-Progression: Link Before You Create
Cross-progression is what lets you continue the same character on another device. It covers all PC platforms, PS5 and mobile, and the Steam listing now names Xbox alongside them. The catch is the order you do things in.

MeinMMO's warning is blunt: if you create a character on the second platform before linking, cross-progression for that platform is no longer possible. The safe sequence is:
- Play on your first platform as normal.
- Install the game on the second platform, but do not create a character there.
- On the title screen, tap the person icon with three lines and choose Link Account, or in the game open Settings, then Other, then User Center, then Link Account.
- Link the second platform's account to the account holding your character.
- Log in on the second platform and your existing character should load.
The same rule applied to beta testers who wanted to carry progress over: the account on the new platform must not already have a character on it.
If you already made a throwaway character on your second device, do not keep playing it hoping to merge later. There is no merge option described in any source we found. Decide which character you want to keep before investing time on the new platform.
Xbox Details Worth Knowing
The Xbox version came with a few extras that other platforms do not share:
- Xbox Play Anywhere: the store lists it as a Play Anywhere title, covering Series X|S, Xbox on PC, cloud and handheld.
- Game Pass: the game is included with Game Pass Essential, Premium, PC Game Pass and Ultimate, although it is free to play without a subscription anyway.
- Game Pass launch pack: the official announcement ran a members-only reward pack from June 8 to July 23, 2026. That window has closed.
- Features: the store lists 4K, HDR10, Variable Refresh Rate, ray tracing, 60 fps or higher, keyboard and mouse support on console, and Xbox achievements.
Note that "Xbox on PC" is a separate PC version from Steam and Epic. If you already play on Steam, you do not need the Microsoft Store version, and installing both mainly creates another account to keep track of.
PC and Mobile Requirements
Crossplay only helps if the game runs well on your device. The Steam page lists these Windows requirements:
- Minimum: Core i7-7700K or Ryzen 5 1600, 16 GB RAM, GTX 1060 6 GB or RX 480 8 GB, DirectX 12 and 130 GB of storage.
- Recommended: Core i7-10700 or Ryzen 7 3700X, 32 GB RAM, RTX 2070 Super, RX 6700 XT or Arc A750, and 200 GB of storage.
That 130 to 200 GB footprint is large, so clear space before a big update. On mobile, the game comes from the App Store and Google Play. The game also needs an internet connection even for single-player, as Game8 notes, so there is no offline mode on any platform.
Switching Devices Day to Day
Once your accounts are linked, moving between a PC at home, a console in the living room and a phone on the go is mostly seamless, but a few things change with the device:
- Controls differ. The same action has a different input on each device. Game8's beginner guide lists the Mighty Drop, which stops fall damage, as Q on keyboard and L3 on a controller, and the Outfit Plan button is F on keyboard, Y on Xbox and Triangle on PlayStation. Expect a few minutes of adjustment after switching.
- Combat feels different on touch. Parry timing is the heart of combat, so do the demanding boss attempts and Arena matches on the device where you have the most precise control, and save gathering, crafting and social activities for mobile.
- Codes and mail follow the account. A code redeemed on your phone lands in the same mailbox you open on PC or console.
- Settings do not always carry over. Graphics and control settings are device-specific by nature, so revisit them the first time you log in on new hardware.
- Storage on PC is heavy. With a 130 GB minimum on Windows, check free space before a patch day rather than during it.
If you are picking a first platform, choose the one you will play the main story on. Story quests only progress in solo play, as Game8's multiplayer guide notes, and they are long, voiced sequences that suit a big screen. Our beginner guide walks through the first hours on any platform.
Platform-Specific Fixes in Recent Patches
All platforms receive updates on the same day. Game8 confirms that Version 2.3 went live on October 15, 2026 on all platforms. The official patch notes since then show console-specific issues still get fixed promptly:
- The October 16 notes fixed an incorrect Echo Bead count for PlayStation players after the update.
- The same notes fixed irregular behavior on the Appearance pages on PlayStation and Xbox, and an issue with the controller L3 button.
- The October 29 notes fixed a PS5 problem that stopped players from completing dialogue in the Mount Tai Blizzard campaign.
If something behaves oddly on one platform after a patch, check the official news page before assuming your account is affected. Our level cap guide covers what the current season changed for progression, and the current code list works on every platform once your account is set up.
Thinking About a Second Account?
Some players moving to a new platform would rather start with a character that is already developed than relink an old one. The store's Where Winds Meet page carries account listings from independent sellers, and several titles mention the platforms and server region an account was set up for. Listings come and go daily.
The official Terms of Use are clear on this point: you may not share, sell or transfer your account to anyone else without the publisher's prior consent. Linking your own existing account, as described above, stays inside those rules.
