Wardogs Release Date: Early Access, Season 3 and Consoles

The Wardogs release date for PC was September 10, 2026, when the game launched in Steam Early Access for Windows. As of November 2026 it is still in Early Access rather than a finished 1.0 version, Season 2 has been live since October 15, and the studio is targeting Thursday, November 12 for Season 3. Console versions are not out yet: the developer has pointed to 2028.

We checked every date below against the Wardogs Steam store page, the developer's own Steam announcements, and reporting from PCGamesN and Shacknews in November 2026.

When Wardogs Came Out on PC

Wardogs is developed by BULKHEAD and published by Team17, and the Steam store page lists its release date as September 10, 2026, with Windows as the only supported platform. The Steam listing price was $39.99 in the US when we checked. It is a 100-player, three-team shooter in which squads fight over a randomized control zone, and the store page carries the standard Early Access label, which means the studio is still adding systems, rebalancing the economy and fixing bugs while people play.

Launch day was rough in the way big multiplayer launches often are. On September 10 the team pushed a client hotfix that forced everyone to restart, then let players back in through the login queue in controlled batches to fix failed server joins, unexpected kicks and long queue times. The demand behind that queue was real: the studio announced 1.25 million copies sold on September 11, two million on September 15, and three million in just over two weeks on September 26. A September 12 post also thanked players for a peak of 400,000 concurrent users.

From Reveal to Open Beta: The Road to Launch

The game was revealed with an official announcement trailer on February 9, 2026, and it picked up 100,000 Steam wishlists in three days. BULKHEAD described it as a standalone take on the King of the Hill mode, built in collaboration with the creators of the original ARMA mod. Wishlists reached 500,000 in late May and passed one million in mid-August, six months after the reveal.

Pre-orders opened on August 11 and came with access to a closed beta that ran from August 21 to 23. A second closed beta was announced on September 1 ahead of The FPS Games Show, and on September 5 the studio turned that test into an open beta that ran until the Sunday morning before launch. The pre-load went live on September 9, along with the Season 1 changelog that slowed early role leveling and moved several big-ticket unlocks.

The marketing around launch was unusually blunt. Instead of a hype reel, the studio published a devlog called 10 Reasons NOT to Buy WARDOGS that covered its Early Access strategy, stair-stepped pricing and long-term monetization, and the pre-order announcement openly encouraged players to try the game and refund it if it did not live up to expectations. That tone has carried into the seasons since, with patch notes that explain the reasoning behind most balance changes.

Season 2, and Why Season 3 Moved Up

Season 2 arrived on October 15 as update 0.2.0, after a maintenance window that ran from 08:00 to 09:30 UTC. It added four weapons (the TCX-SPR, PP-19 Bizon, Evo-3 Ultra and M14), four vehicles including the T-72B3 tank and the Flakpanzer Gepard, a rain weather preset with server-wide thunder, and a large rework of damage, building costs and role progression.

The season began with a progression wipe, but Season 2 also made role levels much faster to earn, and BULKHEAD later admitted that was a mistake. On October 17 the studio said some players were reaching tier-four armor and main battle tanks within days, that the wipe had never really landed, and that it was looking at bringing Season 3 forward so players get a proper fresh start. It ruled out an immediate reset that weekend. By October 30, PCGamesN reported that Season 3 was scheduled for Thursday, November 12, and that a planned devlog previewing it had been delayed.

Two cautions as of November 6. First, the newest post on the official Steam news feed is still the October 15 Season 2 launch notice, so the November 12 date comes from developer comments reported in the press rather than a formal Steam announcement. Second, the studio has talked about limited servers that cap gear at early to midgame tiers, but the exact rules were not published when we checked.

Console Release: What Has Actually Been Announced

The launch trailer post on Steam ended with a short line: coming to consoles in 2028. Shacknews, reporting the announcement from the official WARDOGS X account on launch day, named Xbox and PS5 as the target platforms. That is the full extent of the confirmed console information.

None of the official posts we read give a month, a price for console players, or details on crossplay with PC, so treat any specific console date you see elsewhere as a guess. The 2028 window also sits after the one to two years of Early Access the studio estimates on Steam, which suggests consoles are planned around a more complete version of the game rather than the current build. Until BULKHEAD says more, the only way to play is a Windows PC through Steam.

How Long Early Access Should Last

The Early Access section of the Steam page says the team expects Wardogs to stay in Early Access for around one to two years, and adds that it is adamant it does not want to stay there for a long time. The exact length may change with development and community feedback. The same section says the game will be priced lower during Early Access and may rise closer to full release, so buying early is the cheaper route if you plan to play anyway.

On content, the studio lists more maps, weapons and vehicles, new vehicle types including fighter jets, expanded weapon categories, extra objective variations and deeper progression with a stronger seasonal meta game. An April devlog called Early Access and Beyond added the Black Market and Vault plus a player skills and challenge system to that list. None of those features have dates, and seasons so far have focused on balance and new gear rather than the metagame layer. If you want to know which progression tracks exist today and what each one unlocks, see our breakdown of every role track in Wardogs.

What You Need to Play It Right Now

The minimum specification on Steam is a 64-bit Windows 10 PC with an Intel Core i5 8600 or AMD Ryzen 5 3500, 16 GB of RAM, an Nvidia GTX 1660 or Radeon RX 590 and 50 GB of storage, aimed at 1080p Low at 60 fps with upscaling. The recommended tier moves to Windows 11, an Intel Core i7 12700K or Ryzen 7 5700X and an RTX 3070 or RX 6700 XT for 1440p Medium at 70 fps or more.

A few account rules are worth knowing before you buy. Steam Family Sharing was disabled for Wardogs on September 18 after the studio said some accounts used it to dodge bans, so a family member's library copy will not let you play. BULKHEAD has also said there is no monetization during Early Access apart from the optional Supporter Edition, and that in-game cash and gold bars will never be sold.

That Supporter Edition is purely cosmetic. According to the pre-order announcement it adds three starter weapon camos (a Valkyra A-91, a Lonestar Bushmaster and a Manticore KH-2002), a Taxi camo for the Little Bird helicopter, a supporter icon on the scoreboard that can be hidden in settings, and grenade and helmet bobbleheads. The studio has also promised never to sell camos directly, so the rest of the cosmetic unlocks have to be earned in matches or bought with gold bars in the in-game Gold Market.

Arriving Mid-Season With an Established Account

Plenty of players are only now picking the game up, between seasons, and would rather not start from a fresh role track while veterans roll past in tanks. Our Wardogs hub lists Steam accounts from independent sellers, and the titles typically spell out the overall level, individual role levels, unlocked gear and the cash balance, though the selection changes daily. Before you consider one, know that the game's End User Licence Agreement and Terms of Service, linked from its Steam page, say players must not sell, transfer or try to sell or transfer an account or any part of one.

Also keep the season calendar in mind: with Season 3 framed by the studio as a fresh start, check what a listing's progress is likely to mean after November 12 before you decide.
