Yes, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is on PlayStation: it launched on PS5 and PS5 Pro on November 20, 2025, exactly one year after its PC and Xbox debut. As of November 2026 the PS5 version has received the same major updates as other platforms, including the free Update 2.0 and the paid Cost of Hope expansion, and it supports DualSense features, a full trophy list and separate Performance and Quality modes.

We checked this against GSC Game World's official PS5 launch, physical edition, update and Cost of Hope posts, a developer Q&A published by Wccftech, the Steam listing and the PSNProfiles trophy list in November 2026.

When Stalker 2 Came to PS5

The original release was on November 20, 2024 for PC and Xbox Series X|S, according to the game's Steam listing. GSC's launch post for PlayStation went up on November 20, 2025 and announced the game as available on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro "exactly one year after its original launch."

The timing meant PlayStation owners arrived a year into the game's update cycle. GSC released Update 1.7, the Expedition update, on November 17, 2025, three days before the PS5 launch. It brought the Master difficulty, Expedition mode, better stealth in tall grass, smarter NPC retreats and flanking, and controller aim improvements that let you switch lock-on between enemies without re-targeting and set how long the lock lasts.

A physical copy is available too. GSC announced a Standard Physical Edition, a Day One Edition for PS5, starting November 20, 2025, and said both physical and digital copies can be upgraded to the Deluxe and Ultimate Editions for extra digital bonuses. The Ultimate Edition matters more now than at launch, because GSC says Ultimate Edition owners get the Cost of Hope expansion automatically.

DualSense and PS5 Pro Features

GSC's launch post lists the PS5-specific features the game uses. On a standard PS5 you get:

  • Adaptive triggers and haptic feedback
  • Gyro aiming via the controller's motion sensors
  • Speaker, lightbar and touchpad features
  • Tempest 3D Audio
  • Full trophy support

On PS5 Pro, the same post lists improved shadow quality and resolution, enhanced global illumination, higher-quality reflections, improved volumetric fog and enhanced volumetric cloud rendering. Fog in particular is worth noting, since Update 2.0 later turned it into a gameplay mechanic that cuts visibility and hearing for you and your enemies.

Gyro aiming is the feature most players will want to try. In GSC's Q&A with Wccftech before launch, the developers said gyro aiming on PS5 would add comfort for many players, which is why they built it in. If you play on the harder settings, it can make long-range headshots noticeably easier, and our difficulty guide explains why precision matters more on Veteran and Master.

Performance and Quality Modes

The most specific public numbers for the PS5 modes come from that Wccftech Q&A, published on November 19, 2025, where Technical Director Ievgen Kulyk gave the targets for each console. Treat these as GSC's stated targets rather than independent measurements.

Developer-stated PS5 targets (Wccftech Q&A, November 2025)
ConsolePerformance modeQuality mode
PS52K at 60 fps4K at 30 fps
PS5 Pro4K at 60 fps4K at 30 fps

Two other details from the same interview are useful. The game does not use Sony's PSSR upscaler on PS5 Pro; GSC said it relies only on Unreal Engine 5's built-in TSR. And Communications Director Zakhar Bocharov described the Pro version as "definitely leaning towards PC High settings."

For most players the choice is simple. Performance mode suits a shooter where you are tracking mutants at close range and lining up headshots, while Quality mode is for players who want to soak in the atmosphere and do not mind 30 frames per second. Update 2.0's engine upgrade and Update 2.1's new options may change how each mode feels, so it is worth trying both on your current version.

Update 2.1, released October 26, 2026, added a setting that affects every console: a set of presets for how far away A-Life NPCs are drawn, under Settings, then Game, then Visualisation options. GSC recommends the default preset for stability, warns that higher settings may affect performance, offers a Dynamic preset that scales automatically, and notes that the number of presets may differ depending on your console.

Updates and DLC on PS5

Since launch, the PS5 version has been on the same update track as other platforms. The main milestones as of November 2026:

  • Stories Untold (December 17, 2025): a free content update for PC, Xbox Series X|S and PS5 with over five hours of new story and a new hub in the Burnt Forest.
  • Cost of Hope (August 20, 2026): the first paid expansion, released on PC, Xbox Series X|S and PS5|PS5 Pro, adding the Iron Forest and the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant.
  • Update 2.0, Back to the Zone (August 20, 2026): free for all players regardless of edition, with an engine upgrade, new lighting, A-Life changes, binoculars, new weapons and Custom Rules difficulty.
  • Update 2.1, The Zone Lookout (October 26, 2026): A-Life visualisation presets, squad-leader fast travel and long-range combat tweaks.

If you are deciding whether to pick up the expansion, our Cost of Hope guide explains how to start it on an existing save or skip straight to it from the main menu. To budget your time, see our breakdown of how long the game takes with and without the DLC.

Trophies and Saves on PS5

The PS5 release brought a trophy list that PC and Xbox players see as achievements. PSNProfiles lists 59 trophies in the base game (one platinum, eight silver and 50 bronze) and 18 bronze trophies in the Cost of Hope pack, for 77 in total. None is tied to difficulty, but four silvers require the four different endings, so save management matters. Our trophy guide covers the missables and a route to the platinum.

On save files, GSC published a guide to transferring saves on November 19, 2025. It covers copying the SaveGames folder between PC storefronts such as Steam, GOG, the Epic Games Store and the Microsoft Store, and notes that platforms sharing an account system, like Xbox and PC through the Microsoft Store, can sync automatically. The guide does not describe moving saves to or from PS5, so plan on starting fresh if you are switching from another platform.

Settings Worth Changing on Your First Session

A handful of options added in the 2025 and 2026 updates are easy to miss and make a real difference on a controller. None of them is PS5-only, but they all suit couch play.

  • Aim assist timing: Update 1.7 lets you lock on to different enemies without re-targeting, nudge your aim point on a locked target, and set in seconds how long the lock holds. Shorter locks feel closer to manual aiming; longer ones help in hectic mutant fights.
  • Immersive Mode: also from 1.7, it hides the whole HUD and sets the field of view to a preset value in one step, which is ideal for screenshots or a slower, more atmospheric run.
  • Headshot sound: if the hit sound breaks the mood for you, 1.7 added a toggle to turn it off.
  • Map navigation: the PDA map gained an assist that makes selecting markers easier, which matters far more with a stick than a mouse.
  • Offset aiming: Update 2.0 made it available beyond night vision goggles, so you can use it whenever your weapon setup calls for it.
  • A-Life distance: the Update 2.1 presets described above. Stay on the default if you value stability over seeing distant fights.

Spend five minutes on these before you leave the Lesser Zone. They are the kind of comfort settings that are easy to ignore and annoying to discover forty hours later.

Is the PS5 Version Worth Playing Now?

If you skipped the game at launch, the PS5 version is a good place to start. It arrived a year into the update cycle, it gained a story expansion and a large free overhaul in 2026, and it supports the DualSense features and Pro enhancements listed above. Players on a base PS5 should expect the 2K Performance target from GSC's Q&A rather than the Pro's 4K.

New players should start with Stalker difficulty, use Performance mode, and turn on gyro aiming if you are comfortable with it. Returning players can carry on with an existing save, since GSC says saves from earlier versions are compatible with Update 2.0 and the expansion. GSC does suggest that anyone who has been away for a long time consider a fresh start anyway, simply to see the content added during the update cycle.

Starting the PS5 Version With Full Gear

Since GSC's transfer guide offers no route onto PlayStation, players moving over usually start a PS5 campaign from zero. The store's fully upgraded gear save is built for PS5 and PC: a fresh early-game profile with 99,999,999 coupons, every weapon and armor set stacked x9999, every ammo type, all crafting resources and weapon upgrade parts, and consumables and artifacts stocked, so the story is still ahead of you.

It is not offered for PS4 or Xbox, and you need to own the game on your account. The page explains the delivery: you submit your account details at checkout and the save is applied to your profile, typically within minutes. The PS5 platinum service is sold separately on the Stalker 2 hub.
