RS3 Fort Forinthry Guide: Buildings and Build Order

RuneScape 3 YouTube thumbnail: RS3: Fort Forinthry (All Unlocks, Lodestone and Tier 3 Buildings) Guide - RuneScape 3

Fort Forinthry is RuneScape 3's player-rebuilt settlement in the south-east Wilderness, unlocked through the quest New Foundations and upgraded with Construction into a base with a bank, altar, workshop, herb services, a tree grove and more. Each building has three tiers with their own Construction levels, and some are gated behind the fort's quest series. This rs3 fort forinthry guide covers how to get there, every building's requirements and benefits, and a sensible order to build them in, checked as of November 2026.

We checked the building tiers, requirements and benefits against the RuneScape Wiki's Fort Forinthry article and its related Farming and Herblore pages in November 2026.

What Fort Forinthry Is and How to Get There

Fort Forinthry arrived on 13 February 2023 with the New Foundations update, and it is members only. It sits in the south-east Wilderness, north-east of Varrock and just north of the Jolly Boar Inn, on the land once called the Grieving Vale. The Wilderness dangers do not apply inside the walls, but the north gate opens straight into the Wilderness, so step through it only when you mean to.

Getting there is easy once you have unlocked it. The wiki lists four main routes:

  • The Fort Forinthry lodestone, just south of the fort.
  • Fort Forinthry Teleport scrolls.
  • The Slayer cape teleport to the Raptor, who stands outside the guardhouse.
  • Fairy ring code BJP, which leads through the Woodcutters' Grove and needs the tier 2 Grove Cabin.

The lodestone is the one most players use every day, and it is one of the reasons the fort has become a common hub for banking and skilling between other activities.

Unlocking Construction: New Foundations and the Workshop

Most of the fort's construction requires you to nearly finish New Foundations, the first quest in the fort's storyline. The one exception is the tier 1 Workshop, which is the first building you put up. From then on, every building is started from the blueprints table inside the Workshop, and tiers must be built in order.

Two rules about requirements are worth knowing before you plan. Boosts can be used to meet a building's level requirement when you start its blueprint, but the Assist System cannot. And finishing every building in the fort needs 99 Construction, with one more upgrade beyond that: eternal reinforcement at level 105, which needs at least one tier 3 building.

Some smaller unlocks come early. The lodestone needs only level 1 Construction, the eastern border wall needs level 1 after the quest Unwelcome Guests, and the side gate needs level 50 plus the tier 1 Grove Cabin.

Every Building, Its Levels and Prerequisites

The table below lists the Construction level for each tier of every building, along with the quest prerequisites the wiki gives. Where a quest says "begin", you only need to have started it for tier 1, and completing it opens the higher tiers.

The spread of levels makes the fort a long-term Construction project rather than something you finish in an afternoon. A player with around 50 Construction can have most buildings at tier 1, while the last tier 3 upgrades need 90 to 99.

What Each Building Gives You

Every building adds something practical, which is why the fort is worth building even if you do not care about Construction itself.

  • Workshop: a sawmill, stonecutter and Bill's Construction Supplies. Tier 2 adds remote machine access and tier 3 raises machine power capacity by 25 percent.
  • Town Hall: rested experience, a bank chest and access to Copperpot the banker. The rested experience cap rises from 500 to 1,500 across the tiers.
  • Chapel: the altar's Prayer experience rises from 200 percent to 300 percent, and tier 3 adds prayer book swapping.
  • Command Centre: player-owned port voyage bonuses, extra Anachronia base camp workers and, at tier 3, Miscellania approval boosting.
  • Kitchen: a range, sink and bank chest, with a soup creation station at tier 3.
  • Guardhouse: Slayer damage and elite monster spawn bonuses.
  • Grove Cabin: Woodcutting access to the Grove, including an elder tree at tier 3.
  • Ranger's Workroom: Fletching benefits, a fletching workbench and a spinning wheel.
  • Botanist's Workbench: Granny Rowan's Herblore services, with more options unlocked through eternal reinforcement.

Three of these tie directly into other skills. The Botanist's Workbench lets Granny Rowan decant potions for free from tier 1, which our Herblore guide counts among the best free decanting spots. The Grove also holds a tree patch with its own gardener once the tier 2 Grove Cabin is built, which our Farming guide includes in a full tree run. And the Kitchen's range and bank chest sit close together, handy if you cook your own catch after following our Fishing guide.

The Fort Forinthry Quest Series

The fort has its own storyline, and several buildings depend on it. The wiki lists six quests in the series. We describe only their setups here, without giving away how the story ends.

  1. New Foundations: building the fort, rescuing Bill and recruiting allies.
  2. Murder on the Border: a poisoning at the royal banquet. Needed for the Kitchen.
  3. Unwelcome Guests: attacks on the fort and the Raptor's arrival. Needed for the Guardhouse, Grove Cabin and eastern wall.
  4. Dead and Buried: investigating the crypt and a mysterious device. Needed for the Ranger's Workroom.
  5. Ancient Awakening: an expedition beyond the fort. Needed for the Botanist's Workbench.
  6. Battle of Forinthry: the series finale.

Because buildings and quests are linked, the smoothest path is to alternate between them: do a quest, build the building it unlocks, then move to the next quest once your Construction level allows the next tier.

Construction Experience and Recent Changes

Building the fort is also a source of Construction experience, though the rates have shifted in 2026. According to the wiki's update history, a hidden update on 13 July 2026 reduced the AFK experience rates for fort buildings as part of the player-owned housing rework, while keeping higher rates for players who maintain the optimal build spot bonus. In short, the fort still rewards attentive building more than leaving your character to idle.

A week later, on 20 July 2026, eternal reinforcement arrived. From level 105 Construction, you can reinforce any building already at tier 3, at a cost of 65 eternal magic frames and 6 stone wall segments per reinforcement, for 499,200 base experience each time. That makes the fort one of the few long-term Construction goals beyond level 99, and it gives players chasing 120 Construction a concrete target for their materials.

The quests pay out too. The wiki lists Construction and prismatic experience lamps from Murder on the Border and Dead and Buried, Necromancy and prismatic lamps from Ancient Awakening, a Necromancy lamp from Battle of Forinthry, and the titles Duke, Duchess and Dux from New Foundations. Quest lamps are not boosted by Double XP, so there is no reason to save these quests for an event.

A few quality-of-life details round things out. The Raptor became a Slayer master at the fort with the Unwelcome Guests update in April 2023, a toggle added in March 2025 lets Zoe change the fort's trees and decorations with the seasons, and since August 2025 some items and effects, such as combat and skilling dummies and certain transformation rings, are restricted inside fort buildings. The fort also has its own achievements, including one for upgrading each building to tier 3 and a few lighter ones, like making a maple plank on the fort sawmill.

A Sensible Build Order

There is no single correct order, but the benefits above suggest a practical one for most accounts.

  1. Workshop tier 1, because nothing else can start without it.
  2. Town Hall at level 10, for the bank chest and rested experience.
  3. Chapel at 15, since the boosted altar makes Prayer training cheaper for the rest of the game.
  4. Kitchen and Command Centre at 25, the Kitchen after starting Murder on the Border.
  5. Guardhouse at 40 if you do Slayer, and the Grove Cabin at 50 if you train Woodcutting or Farming.
  6. Ranger's Workroom at 50 and the Botanist's Workbench at 54, after their quests.
  7. Upgrade the tiers you use most first, then work toward the tier 3 builds at 75 to 99.

If you enjoy Construction projects beyond the fort, the Leagues Reward Shop sells furniture plans such as the grandmaster portal nexus and a Guthixian house portal for league points, and our Equilibrium League recap lists what those points buy now that the league has ended.

Want It Built Already?

A fully upgraded fort takes 99 Construction and the whole quest series, which is a big investment for a new or returning player. Some players weighing their options look through the account listings on our RuneScape 3 page, which are supplied by third-party sellers and change daily. Jagex's Terms and Conditions are explicit that accounts may not be shared, bought or sold, that real-world trading is banned, and that all rights in an account belong to Jagex.

Built on your own account, the fort grows with you: a bank and altar early, then herb, farming and fletching services as your levels and quests catch up.
