RS3 Double XP November 2026: Dates and Prep Plan

The latest RS3 Double XP event is live right now: the November 2026 event started on 6 November and runs until 16 November, giving every member 48 hours of doubled experience to spend across that ten-day window. You can pause the timer whenever you switch to something that does not give XP, so the real question is not when to play but which skills deserve those 48 hours. Jagex has also confirmed this is the last Double XP of 2026 and the last one where MTX training items still work, which changes how you should plan.

We checked the dates and rules against the official RuneScape news posts "The Week Ahead" and "The Returners Guide to DXP", plus the RuneScape Wiki pages for Double XP Live, upcoming updates and the Well of Restoration, in November 2026.

When the November 2026 Event Runs and How the Timer Works

The event window opened on 6 November and closes on 16 November. The RuneScape Wiki lists the end as 12:00 UTC on 16 November, which is game time, so players in the Americas should treat the final morning as a hard stop rather than planning a long session that evening. Inside that window you get 48 hours of Double XP time. The timer only matters while it is running: Jagex's returners guide says you can pause it whenever you like, for example to do activities where experience is not the goal.

That pause button is the single most important tool of the event. The 48 hours are a budget, not a countdown on the calendar. If you log in, bank, sort your inventory, check the Grand Exchange and chat with your clan while the timer runs, you are burning doubled time on zero experience. Get in the habit of starting the timer only when your first real action of the session is ready to go, and pausing it the moment you stop to restock. Older events used different rules (the wiki notes a one hour cooldown on the pause button back in August 2020), so if you remember a different system from years ago, check the in-game interface rather than relying on memory.

The ten-day window is also generous compared with the 48 hours. Averaged out, you only need a little under five hours of active play per day to use the full allowance. That makes the event workable for people with jobs and school, as long as the sessions are planned in advance instead of improvised.

What Gets Doubled and What Does Not

Most ordinary skilling and combat actions give their base experience a second time. The exceptions are where people waste hours, so read this list before you commit. According to the RuneScape Wiki, the Double XP boost does not apply to:

  • Quest experience rewards, so do not save quests for the event expecting bigger rewards.
  • Items that already give bonus experience, such as experience lamps.
  • Anything that converts points into experience, including Slayer incentives and Dungeoneering tokens.
  • Assist System experience.

Two skills behave differently rather than simply doubling. In Archaeology, base precision is doubled, which the wiki describes as double artefacts per hour from excavation, and excavation and screening experience are both doubled. In Invention, equipment experience from augmented gear is gained at 150 percent of the normal rate instead of 200 percent. Those two exceptions push Archaeology up and Invention gear siphoning down the priority list.

Account type matters too. Ironman Mode players do not receive any experience boost during Double XP events, so an Ironman can ignore the timer entirely and simply enjoy quieter worlds while everyone else is busy. Free-to-play players get 20 percent extra experience instead of double, and the wiki notes that any accumulated bonus experience on a free account is consumed during the event. The Last Event for Proteans and Training Dummies

This November is more important than a typical Double XP week. Jagex's returners guide calls it the second and final Double XP event of 2026 and says it is the last one where players can use MTX training items such as proteans and training dummies, because those items are removed on 23 November as part of the MTX item banishment. The same post says there is no news yet about Double XP in 2027, because the team is still discussing how the event fits RuneScape's long-term design.

If you are holding a stack of proteans or dummies from old promotions, this is the time to use them, since they will not be worth more later. After Double XP ends, the Well of Restoration runs from 16 November for seven days. The RuneScape Wiki says players can donate eligible MTX items for GP during that event, and that on 23 November any remaining MTX items are removed and automatically converted into GP at a reduced rate. Logging in during the Well of Restoration also awards the title The Restorer.

That gives you a simple decision rule. Training items that give real experience should be spent under the Double XP timer where they are worth the most. Anything you know you will not use should be kept for the Well of Restoration, where the donation rate is better than the automatic conversion that happens afterwards. Do not throw leftover items away or leave them to the automatic conversion out of habit.

Where the Doubled Hours Pay Most

Every account is different, but some skills stand out because they are slow, expensive or both outside the event. A good rule is to spend Double XP on skills where your normal method is slow click-intensive work, not on skills you already train passively at a good rate.

  • Archaeology: doubled precision means more artefacts as well as more experience, so the boost pays off twice.
  • Dungeoneering: floor experience is doubled, but tokens are not. Our Dungeoneering guide for the remastered skill covers how the new floor buff cycle works, which helps you decide which floors to run while the timer is on.
  • Divination: a popular choice for accounts chasing high levels, because wisps and rifts are low cost. The Divination training guide lists the wisp colony for each level band so you do not lose time walking.
  • Herblore: potion making is expensive, and doubling the experience halves the gold cost per level. Read the Herblore guide before buying herbs, because the best potion depends on your level.
  • Fishing: high-level methods such as Fishing Frenzy are fast and focused, which suits short doubled sessions. The Fishing guide breaks down options by level.

Skills you train mostly through lamps, quests or point shops are poor picks, for the reasons in the exclusion list above. If you want a broader view of efficient training outside events, our fast XP guide covers the general approach for each skill.

A Ten-Day Plan That Fits Real Life

Because the window is ten days and the budget is 48 hours, the event rewards preparation more than marathon sessions. Here is a structure that works for most members.

  1. Day one, stock up first. Before you start the timer at all, buy or gather the supplies for your first two skills. Grand Exchange prices are set by players, and demand for training supplies climbs when thousands of people chase the same skills, so buying before you need them avoids paying whatever the market asks mid-session.
  2. Pick two main skills and one backup. Splitting 48 hours across eight skills usually leaves every one of them short of a milestone. Two focus skills plus a low-attention backup for tired evenings is easier to manage.
  3. Set targets in levels, not hours. Write down the level you want in each focus skill and check progress at the halfway point. If one skill is ahead of schedule, move the spare hours to the other.
  4. Pause for everything that is not experience. Banking runs, boss trips for profit, quest dialogue and clan events all happen with the timer paused.
  5. Leave a buffer before the 16th. Aim to finish your hours a day early, since the event ends at midday UTC, and unused time does not carry over.

Some players also schedule around other things happening in the same window. The RuneScape Wiki lists the solo mode for the Ghrazi Blood Knights boss arriving on 9 November, which is a good reason to pause the timer and try new content once your skilling targets are on track.

Mistakes That Waste Doubled Hours

Most lost value during Double XP comes from a handful of repeated errors. Avoiding them is worth more than finding the perfect method.

  • Leaving the timer running while you bank, trade or go AFK on a skill that has already stopped.
  • Saving quests or lamps for the event, even though quest rewards and lamps are not doubled.
  • Buying supplies after the event has started and prices have already risen.
  • Training Invention through equipment siphoning and expecting the full doubled rate, when the wiki lists 150 percent for equipment experience.
  • Forgetting that free-to-play accounts only get 20 percent extra, and that Ironman accounts get no boost at all.
  • Keeping MTX training items for a future event that, as of November 2026, Jagex has not announced, when those items are removed on 23 November.

Starting With an Established Account

Double XP rewards accounts that already have the quests, unlocks and levels to reach the faster methods, and a brand new character spends much of the event on early content instead. Our RuneScape 3 page shows account listings from third-party sellers, and those listings change daily. Before you consider one, know that Jagex's Terms and Conditions, dated March 2026, prohibit sharing, selling or buying accounts and taking part in real-world trading, and state that all rights in an account belong to Jagex.

For most players the better plan is the one above: stock up, pick two skills and use the pause button. Forty-eight well-spent hours on your own account will move it further than you might expect.
