There are five Hypixel ranks you can buy: VIP, VIP+, MVP, MVP+ and MVP++, with MVP++ working as a subscription upgrade on top of MVP+. A few more, such as YOUTUBE and the staff rank, cannot be bought at all. Below is what Hypixel itself says about each tier, how buying works, what MVP++ adds, and what a rank does not change on the server.
We checked this against Hypixel's support center articles on ranks, the store, nicknames, Watchdog and account security, plus the Hypixel Forums, in November 2026. Hypixel closed its official wiki in July 2026, so the support center and store are now the primary sources.
The Five Purchasable Ranks
Hypixel's support article on obtaining ranks lists the purchasable tiers in order: VIP, VIP+, MVP, MVP+ and MVP++. Each one gives an in-game chat prefix showing the rank, such as [VIP] or [MVP+], along with the perks listed for that tier on the Hypixel Store. The article is explicit that the ranks category on the store always holds the most up-to-date information about each rank, so the store is where to confirm perks and current prices before buying.

- VIP: the entry rank, shown as [VIP] in chat.
- VIP+: the next step, shown as [VIP+].
- MVP: the mid tier, shown as [MVP].
- MVP+: listed by Hypixel with a default chat prefix of [MVP+].
- MVP++: described by Hypixel as a unique subscription-based rank upgrade for MVP+ players.
Because perks and prices are set on the store and change over time, we do not list a price here. The store shows amounts in the currency you select, which is more reliable than any figure copied onto a third-party page.
Hypixel's guides describe connecting by adding the server address in Minecraft's Multiplayer menu, which is how Java Edition reaches third-party servers. If you are still deciding which edition to play, our Java vs Bedrock comparison explains how servers and cross-play differ between the two.
How MVP++ Works
MVP++ is the tier people ask about most, because it works differently from the rest. Hypixel describes it as a subscription-based upgrade for players who already have MVP+, rather than a standalone rank. In other words, MVP+ comes first, and MVP++ is layered on top of it rather than replacing it.
The clearest documented perk is nicknames. Hypixel's nickname guide says the in-game nickname feature, which disguises your name, rank and skin, is available to MVP++ and YOUTUBE ranks. A few details from that guide:
- Random names only: MVP++ players are limited to randomly generated nicknames, with a maximum of 6 nickname changes each day.
- Choose a displayed rank: while nicked you pick which rank you appear to have, from default up to MVP+. Picking default disables lobby flight while you use the nickname.
- Choose a skin: your own skin, the default Steve or Alex skin, or a random one.
- Lobby only: nicknames can only be changed in lobbies, not mid-game.
- Commands: /nick opens the setup book, /nick random sets a new random name, /nick reuse tries your last one and /nick reset removes it.
Hypixel stresses that nicknames are logged and unique to a single player at a time, so staff and the reporting system always know who is behind one. A nickname changes how other players see you, not how the rules apply to you.
Ranks You Cannot Buy
Two ranks on Hypixel are earned rather than purchased.

- YOUTUBE: the support article says the main requirement is owning a YouTube channel with at least 30,000 subscribers, though other kinds of channels may be considered. Applications run through Hypixel's Creator Program.
- Staff: Hypixel staff handle moderation, quality assurance, game development, player support and more. Applicants must be 18 or older, and openings are posted as job listings.
Anyone claiming to sell a staff or YOUTUBE rank is not offering something Hypixel sells. Hypixel's suspicious-activity guide tells players to ignore messages or links claiming to offer free ranks, items or accounts, and the same caution applies to paid offers for ranks the store does not list.
Buying a Rank on the Hypixel Store
Hypixel's own guide to the store at store.hypixel.net walks through the purchase. The steps are simple, but two of them trip people up: the username and the receiver.
- Enter your current Minecraft username when you first click an item. Hypixel asks you to double-check the spelling.
- Add the rank to your cart with the BUY button. You can keep shopping and pay for everything together.
- Check the Receiver in the cart. Hypixel's guide says to make sure it is the right Minecraft account and to log in again with the correct username if it is not.
- Choose a payment method and fill in the details. Hypixel notes the store is based in Europe, so payment methods that cannot be used internationally will not work unless you pay from Europe.
- Accept the Privacy Policy and Store Terms, pay, and watch for the emailed receipt. If the purchase does not arrive, contact Hypixel support.
The receiver check deserves real attention. The purchase is delivered to the Minecraft account named there, so a misspelled username can send a rank to a stranger. Compare the receiver with the name shown in your launcher before paying, and if you are buying for a friend, ask them to type their exact username for you.
The store also sells more than ranks: Hypixel Gold for the in-game store, SkyBlock Gems for SkyBlock's Community Shop, Housing+ for Hypixel Housing, Network Boosters that raise coin multipliers on a minigame for a limited time, and lobby Companions. Our guide to what a Minecraft account costs in 2026 covers how these server purchases sit alongside the cost of the game itself.
What Every Player Gets Without a Rank
A rank is optional, and a lot of Hypixel's progression is open to everyone. Before spending anything, it is worth using the free systems Hypixel documents.
- Daily rewards: click The Delivery Man in any lobby, open the delivery menu and claim. Hypixel's guide says rewards come in Common, Rare, Epic and Legendary tiers and include minigame coins, SkyWars tokens, Hypixel Experience, Mystery Dust and Housing blocks.
- Claim streaks: after 9 consecutive claims you receive a reward token for a free extra claim, and higher-tier rewards can include more reward tokens.
- Linking bonus: linking your Minecraft account to the Hypixel Forums gives the Creeperbook achievement and 15,000 Hypixel Network Experience.
- Privacy controls: typing /privacy in any lobby lets you decide who can message you or send friend, party, duel, guild and SMP invites, on a scale from None to Max.
The Legendary daily tier alone lists 100,000 Hypixel Experience and up to 14 reward tokens, so a consistent claim habit adds up over a season. Combined with the linking bonus, a brand-new player can climb a fair way without touching the store, and decide later whether a rank's cosmetic perks are worth paying for.
What a Rank Does Not Change
A rank is cosmetic and convenience-focused; it does not buy leniency. Hypixel's Watchdog guide answers the question directly: Watchdog does not differentiate between ranks. The same rules apply to every player, and nicknames are logged so moderation can see through them.
- Rules still apply: the Hypixel Server Rules cover chat abuse, unfair advantages, account abuse, game trading and inappropriate cosmetics for every rank.
- Punishments can remove progress: the rules say a punishment may lead to the removal of game stats, currencies or items.
- Name changes and ranks: ranks sit on your Minecraft account, but the store identifies you by username, so log in to the store with your current name after any rename. Our Minecraft name change guide covers the Java renaming rules.
If a ranked account does get punished, the appeal goes through the Hypixel Forums after linking your account, and you get one appeal per punishment. Our explainer on Minecraft and Hypixel ban appeals walks through the process.
Protecting a Ranked Account
A paid rank makes an account a bigger target, so the security basics matter more. Hypixel's account security guide and suspicious-activity guide recommend the following.
- Turn on two-step verification on your Microsoft account at account.microsoft.com.
- Never share the account, even with friends; Hypixel says players are responsible for everything done on their accounts.
- Use only official sites. Hypixel publishes its official domains, including hypixel.net, store.hypixel.net, support.hypixel.net, status.hypixel.net and rewards.hypixel.net, and says any other site claiming to be Hypixel has no affiliation.
- Link your forum account. Linking via /linkaccount gives the Creeperbook achievement and 15,000 Hypixel Network Experience, and you need the link to appeal anything. Unlinking triggers a week-long cooldown on both accounts.
If Hypixel detects activity suggesting your account was compromised, it applies a Suspicious Activity Account Block that needs an appeal and is followed by a 14-day recovery period, so prevention is far easier than cleanup.
Looking at Existing Hypixel Accounts
Some players browse accounts that already carry Hypixel progress rather than building from zero. The store's Minecraft hub has listings from marketplace sellers that include Hypixel SkyBlock accounts. Before considering one, know that Hypixel's Server Rules list selling, trading, giving away or sharing accounts under Account Abuse.
