LOTF Modded Save: All Umbral Eyes Explained

Concept painting of Molhu, a hunched Umbral figure holding up a lamp

Umbral Eyes are one of the easiest things to overlook on a Lords of the Fallen modded save listing, and one of the most interesting to own. Both the Complete and All Unlocks saves include every eye. But the Umbral Lamp can only hold a few at a time, and each eye behaves differently depending on where you put it. This post explains how the system works so the collection turns into a better build.

What Umbral Eyes actually are

An Umbral Eye is a modifier socketed into your Umbral Lamp. Each one has two effects: a main effect when it sits in the lamp's main socket, and a different secondary effect when it sits in a secondary socket. The Fextralife table lists fifteen eyes, from the Umbral Eye of Betrayed Eliard to that of the Pale Butcher, and normally they come from enemy drops and hidden loot across both realms.

Collecting them all is its own trophy, What Sights Contained Within, and filling every socket is another, Utmost Insight. The store listings do not promise trophies, so think of the eyes as build tools rather than achievement shortcuts.

Sockets depend on the lamp, not the eyes

Owning every eye does not give you room for them. The lamp starts at +0 with only the main socket and one Soulflay charge. Each upgrade costs one Antediluvian Chisel, and there are three upgrades:

Umbral Lamp upgrade levels
Lamp levelMain socketSecondary socketsSoulflay chargesDread resistance
+0101None
+111210%
+211320%
+312330%

So a fully upgraded lamp holds three eyes: one main and two secondary. The listings include all upgrade materials but do not itemise them, so after delivery check whether chisels are in your Upgrade Materials tab. If not, the game has three to find, and guides map all of them.

Socketing: a visit to Molhu

Both the lamp upgrades and the socketing itself are done by Molhu at Skyrest Bridge. He is only visible in Umbral, so raise the lamp in the side chamber off the main hall to find him, then cross over to talk. A co-op bug that stopped guests from socketing eyes was fixed in a later update, so you can rearrange them while visiting a friend's world.

Eyes worth trying first

  • Hooded Antuli (main): eight seconds of damage immunity whenever you transition into Umbral, a lifesaver when Axiom goes wrong.
  • Lydia the Numb Witch (main): fire ranged weapons without ammunition, paid for in withered health. Handy on the Complete save, which leaves out arrows.
  • Marco the Axe: in the main socket, 20% more item discovery at the cost of 40% Dread resistance; as a secondary, an extra Soulflay charge.
  • Olleren (main): Soulflay hits an area, great against groups.
  • Betrayed Eliard: an extra Soulflay charge and Dread resistance in the main socket, or better healing in Umbral as a secondary.
  • Lost Berescu: regain mana when siphoning, a natural fit for casters.

Because main and secondary effects differ, the same three eyes arranged in a different order can play like a different build. With all fifteen in your bag, experimenting costs nothing but a walk to Molhu.

Three loadouts to start from

These use the effects listed for each eye in the Fextralife table, with one eye in the main socket and two in the secondary sockets of a +3 lamp:

  • Soulflay brawler: Olleren in the main socket for area Soulflay, with Marco the Axe (an extra Soulflay charge) and Blind Agatha (a Soulflay charge regained in Umbral) as secondaries.
  • Umbral survivor: Hooded Antuli in the main socket for immunity on transition, with Dieter and Iorelo the Cursed Knight as secondaries, each adding 25% Dread resistance.
  • Treasure hunter: Marco the Axe in the main socket for item discovery, with Ethryg (30% more item discovery) and Betrayed Eliard (better healing in Umbral) as secondaries.

Swap any of them freely; with every eye available, the only cost of a bad idea is another visit to Molhu.

A word on Dread, since so many eyes touch it. The longer you stay in Umbral, the more Dread builds up, which is why lamp upgrades and several eyes add Dread resistance. Staying also raises the Vigor multiplier on kills, from x1.10 on entry and climbing from there, so a setup that lets you linger safely in Umbral pays you back in Vigor too.

Getting eyes without a modded save

The co-op service also lists all Umbral Eyes in its $65 armour, weapons and items pack, dropped by a worker in a co-op session with no login. If you want the eyes as part of a full inventory on your own profile, both the Complete save and the All Unlocks save include them. Our gear guide covers the rest of the library.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do both modded saves include every Umbral Eye?

Yes. The Complete and All Unlocks listings both say All Umbral Eyes. You socket them through Molhu at Skyrest Bridge.

How many Umbral Eyes can I use at once?

Up to three: one main and two secondary, once the lamp is upgraded to +3. At +0 the lamp only has the main socket.

What do I need to upgrade the Umbral Lamp?

One Antediluvian Chisel per level, three in total, handed to Molhu. Check your Upgrade Materials tab after delivery, because the listings do not itemise chisels.

Why can I not find Molhu?

He only appears in Umbral. Go to the side chamber off the main hall at Skyrest Bridge, raise the lamp to spot him, then cross into Umbral to speak with him.

Does an eye work the same in every socket?

No. Each eye has a main effect and a separate secondary effect, so where you place it changes what it does.

Will the eyes unlock the Umbral Eye trophies?

The listings do not promise trophies. The game has What Sights Contained Within for collecting every eye and Utmost Insight for filling the lamp, but treat any trophy that appears as a bonus.
