Instant vs Legit Trophy Timestamps: What PSN Shows

PlayStation platinum trophy in front of gold, silver and bronze trophy cups

Every per-game platinum page on the store asks one question before anything else: "Timestamp type". Your answer to instant vs legit trophy timestamps decides how the finished list reads on your profile for as long as the account exists. Instant costs $15 and legit costs $25, and the difference is not the trophies themselves or the scope of the order. It is the story the dates tell to anyone who looks.

What a trophy timestamp is

When a trophy unlocks, PlayStation records the date and time against it. Your console shows that date in the trophy list, the PlayStation App shows it, and tracker sites such as PSNProfiles read it when your profile syncs and then list every unlock in order. So anyone who opens your profile on one of those sites sees not only which trophies you have, but how far apart they arrived.

That spacing works like a fingerprint. A normal playthrough leaves early story trophies on the first evening, gaps while you play, clusters around bosses and big set pieces, and the platinum a moment after whichever trophy completed the list. There is no menu to edit a timestamp afterwards, so whatever pattern lands on your list stays there. If you are newer to trophy hunting, our PS4 and PS5 platinum hunting guide explains how lists, grades and trackers fit together.

Instant time-stamps: what the $15 option looks like

The product pages describe instant time-stamps plainly: all trophies unlock at once or within a few seconds. The page's example puts the first trophy at 4:30:01 PM on June 20, the remaining trophies between 4:30:01 and 4:30:10 PM, and the platinum at 4:30:10 PM the same afternoon. A complete list, first trophy to platinum, inside ten seconds.

Nobody plays a game that fast, and that is the thing to accept before choosing it. Instant is a sound choice when the list is mainly for you: you want the platinum on your shelf, the trophy level points, or a tidy 100% on a game you will never grind. It is a poor choice if you share your profile in trophy-hunting circles, because a ten-second platinum is precisely the pattern those circles look for.

Legit time-stamps: what the $25 option looks like

Legit time-stamps, in the page's words, unlock on different dates and times with realistic gaps. The example places the first trophy on June 2 at 3:15 PM, a story trophy on June 5 at 8:40 PM, the final trophy on June 18 at 6:20 PM, and the platinum in that same minute, which mirrors how a genuine completion ends. That example covers a little over two weeks.

It is an example rather than a schedule for your game, so ask support how your list will be spaced, particularly for a long RPG where you might prefer a longer spread than a short action game would need. Legit spacing makes a list read like a playthrough on your profile and in friends' comparisons. It does not change how the trophies were unlocked, and no seller can promise how a tracker site's moderators will judge any particular list.

How other people read the difference

On a console, friends who compare trophies with you see the date on each one. On tracker sites the whole sequence is laid out in order, and that is where timing gets scrutinised. Sites such as PSNProfiles run leaderboards and let members dispute lists with impossible timing, and a game flagged there can cost a profile its leaderboard placement. A ten-second platinum on a game that normally takes weeks is about the clearest example of impossible timing there is.

None of that touches the account side of the order, which is identical for both options: staff sign in to your account either way. For that process and how to secure your account afterwards, read PS5 platinum trophy service: how it works.

Which one should you pick?

  • Choose instant if your profile is private or you rarely share it, you mostly want the level points or a finished list, or the game is one you already enjoyed and only a grind you will never do is left.
  • Choose legit if your profile is public on tracker sites, friends compare lists with you, or you want the list to read like a real playthrough when you scroll back through it in a few years.
  • Ask before ordering if part of the list is already earned. Your existing trophies keep their real dates, so check with support how the remaining unlocks will be placed next to them. With instant, expect the rest to land together.
  • Think about the whole shelf if you plan several orders. A profile where some games are instant and others legit reads inconsistently, which matters more on a public profile than a private one.

What neither option changes

  • Scope. Both cover the game's full standard list. DLC-only trophies require the matching DLC, so raise them with support first.
  • Points. A platinum adds 300 points and the rest of the list counts at 15, 30 and 90 points per bronze, silver and gold, however the dates fall.
  • Access. Staff sign in to your account for either option, so change your password once the order is confirmed.
  • The add-on. "Platinum trophy for 3 extra games - 20% Off" (+$36) appears with both choices. The page does not say which timestamp style the three extra games receive, so confirm it with support if it matters to you.

Order with the right timestamp type

Once you know which pattern you want, choose it on the game's page, for example Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice or Bloodborne, or browse every trophy listing on the PlayStation trophy hub. The hub also has a "(PS3/PS4/PS5) Trophy Platinum Services (Legit Time-Stamps)" listing that lets you pick any PS3, PS4 or PS5 game, from $25 for one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I switch from instant to legit timestamps after ordering?

Only before the work starts. Once trophies sync to PSN with a date, there is no menu to change it. If you change your mind, tell support straight away in reply to the order email, before anything is unlocked.

Do legit time-stamps cost more on every game?

Yes. On the per-game platinum pages legit time-stamps are $25 and instant time-stamps are $15, and that pricing is the same on every page. The hub's multi-game listings use their own package prices.

Can instant timestamps get my account banned?

Nobody can honestly promise zero risk, and you should be wary of anyone who does. What is certain is that instant unlocks are visible as a single burst to anyone who checks your list, so tracker sites may flag the game. The account access involved is the same for both options.

Do instant platinums count toward my trophy level?

Yes. Trophy level is calculated from points, and a platinum is worth 300 whatever its date. A full list delivered with instant time-stamps moves your level exactly as much as the same list spread over weeks.

How far apart will my legit unlocks be?

The page's example spreads a list over a little more than two weeks, from June 2 to June 18. It is an illustration, not a promise for your game, so ask support how they will space your particular list before you pay.

Will my already-earned trophies get new dates?

No. PSN records each trophy once, so anything you earned yourself keeps its original date. Only the missing trophies and the platinum are added by the order.
