In Enshrouded, your comfort level decides how long the Rested buff lasts, while your character level decides how strong it is. You earn Rested by sitting or sleeping in a warm, sheltered spot with comfort items nearby and no threats around, and every comfort point you add stretches the timer, up to a maximum comfort of 120 according to the official wiki. Here is how comfort and the Rested buff work as of November 2026, which items give the most, and how to set up a room that keeps you rested through long trips.
We cross-checked Keen Games' Forging the Path and 1.0 notes, the official Enshrouded Wiki's Comfort, Rested and Skills pages, and the Pindrop comfort database built from the 1.0 files in November 2026.
What the Rested Buff Does
Rested raises your maximum stamina and your stamina regeneration. That matters more than it sounds, because stamina drives almost everything outside of spellcasting: sprinting, dodging, gliding, mining and chopping trees. The wiki puts it plainly: when you are tired, you cannot do any of those as long or as often, which leaves you at a disadvantage in combat and every other activity.

The surprise for most players is that the strength of the buff has nothing to do with your house. The wiki's Rested page states that the bonus is tied to character level and entirely unaffected by comfort. At level 1 it records +40 stamina and +4 stamina regeneration, and it estimates that the bonus keeps growing as you level, with stamina rising on even levels and regeneration on every level. Comfort only changes the duration.
Keen has adjusted the regeneration side more than once. Wake of the Water reduced health, mana and stamina regeneration globally in November 2025, and Patch 12 in December 2025 pushed base stamina regeneration back up to the pre-Wake level and reverted the stamina regeneration increase per level of the Rested buff, which Keen described as a slight increase. Guides written in between can understate the buff.
How to Get Rested
The wiki lists four conditions. Miss one and the buff will not start, no matter how much furniture you own:
- No threats nearby. Enemies in range block it, so build your rest area inside the altar zone and away from camps.
- Some form of comfort. Placed comfort items such as a bed, chair, table or carpet.
- Warmth and shelter. A heat source such as a fireplace or brazier, and a roof over your head.
- Sitting or sleeping. Sit on a chair or bench or lie in a bed. Since 1.0 you can sit anywhere on a bench again, not only in the middle seat.
Your Flame Altar adds 1 comfort point on its own. Survivor beds also matter for progression: the Flame upgrade requirements count only survivors who are sheltered and assigned a bed, so a comfortable house pays off twice. Our Flame level guide lists how many survivors each level needs.
How Comfort Turns Into Rested Time
The wiki's Comfort page says each level of comfort adds one minute to the Rested timer, then immediately adds a note that the real amount per level is not one minute, and that this has been reported to Keen as a possible bug. Keen has not published a formula, so treat any exact minutes-per-point figure you read as an estimate.

A few sources of extra time are documented:
- Well Rested skill. The wiki's Skills page lists it at 1 skill point and says it increases the base duration of the Rested buff by 5 minutes, with comfort extending it further. The Comfort page describes it differently (+2 minutes per level), so check the in-game tooltip for your version.
- Musical instruments. Playing one adds about two more minutes to the timer and gives a temporary +1, +2 or +3 comfort buff.
- Armor. Some armor pieces add a few seconds of Rested time.
Keen also changed the curve in Forging the Path on 21 April 2026. In the late game, comfort now accumulates slightly less efficiently, so pushing an already high value higher takes more comfort points than before. To compensate, boss trophies received much higher comfort values. Keen said it plans more work on the comfort system and on showing how comfort is calculated per base.
The easiest way to see what is actually feeding your timer is the attributes menu. Wake of the Water added the newer contributors to the Rested buff there, so you can compare the timer before and after placing a new piece of furniture instead of guessing. The 1.0 update also fixed the Rested icon flickering in the HUD while standing in a player base, which used to make it look as if the buff was dropping and restarting.
The Highest-Comfort Item in Each Category
Comfort items fall into categories such as beds, chairs, tables, carpets, bathroom items, fireplaces, lighting and wall decorations. The wiki's maximum of 120 is built from the single best item in each of 15 categories plus the altar's point, and it does not describe extra copies of the same item adding more. The practical rule is to fill as many categories as you can with their best item before doubling up on anything.
| Category | Item | Comfort |
|---|---|---|
| Painting or trophy | Gold Scavenger Matron Trophy | 10 |
| Bed | Ancient Bed | 9 |
| Chair | Ancient Chair | 9 |
| Stool | Ancient Stool | 9 |
| Bench | Ancient Bench | 9 |
| Table | Small Ancient Table | 9 |
| Throne | Granite Throne | 8 |
| Shower | Maritime Shower | 8 |
| Bathtub | Maritime Bathtub | 8 |
| Toilet | Maritime Toilet | 8 |
| Sink | Maritime Sink | 8 |
| Fireplace | Ancient Temple Floor Brazier I | 7 |
| Light | Ancient Wall Lamp | 7 |
| Wellness | Heart Pillow | 6 |
| Carpet | Carpet | 4 |
The Pindrop database, built from the 1.0 game files and updated on 3 November 2026, agrees on the top tier: the highest comfort value on any item is 10, shared by 22 gold trophies, and the Ancient bed, bench, chair, stool and table pieces sit at 9. The wiki lists the Ancient Bed among the recipes of the Carpenter, Cade Hawthorn, the survivor who crafts most wooden furniture, storage chests and comfort items.
Building a Comfort Room That Works
You do not need a mansion. A single enclosed room can hit most categories if you plan it:
- Roof and walls first. Shelter is a hard requirement, so finish the enclosure before you place furniture.
- One heat source. Put a brazier or fireplace inside the room so warmth and shelter apply at the same spot where you sit.
- Bed, chair, table and bench. With Ancient pieces, these four categories alone are worth 36 points.
- Bathroom corner. The four Maritime pieces add 32 points together, a large share of the total. Patch 12 added the rest of the Maritime furniture set in December 2025.
- Trophy wall. Gold trophies are the single highest items, and Forging the Path raised boss trophy values specifically to keep comfort climbing late in the game.
- Light and carpet. Cheap points that finish the set.
Put the room near the spot you leave from, ideally next to your main crafting area. If you are still deciding where that should be, our base building guide covers altar placement, and the stamina from a long Rested buff speeds up the grinding in our leveling guide.
Pairing Rested With Food and Drink
Rested is only one of your stamina sources, and it stacks with food. Keen has tuned the food side several times, so it is worth knowing which items it singled out. Patch 12 in December 2025 raised stamina regeneration on water, cooked fae deer milk, frizzy goat milk, coconuts, coconut milk and grilled fish coconut rice, gave longer buffs to cooked fae deer milk and coconut milk, and added stamina regeneration to spiced tea and every type of coffee. Rooibos tea went the other way, with slightly lower stamina regeneration.
- Watch your food slots. Since Wake of the Water, trying to eat while every food buff slot is full shows a warning instead of wasting the meal.
- Clear a bad meal. 1.0 added the Puke Potion to personal crafting. It removes all active food buffs, which is handy when you want to swap a health meal for a stamina one before a long glide or mining run.
- Top up before you leave. Rest, eat, then head out, so the Rested timer and the food timers start together.
For long Shroud expeditions, a full Rested timer plus stamina food means fewer forced trips home, which is exactly what high comfort is for. That combination matters most in the late game, where the comfort curve flattens and every extra point costs more.
Common Comfort Mistakes
- Standing instead of sitting. The buff applies when you sit or sleep, so walking around the room does not count.
- Expecting stronger stamina from more comfort. Comfort extends the timer only; the stamina bonus comes from your level.
- Duplicating instead of diversifying. A second bed of the same kind is not what the wiki's maximum is built on; an empty category is a better target.
- Trusting old caps. Older guides quote a maximum around 69. The wiki's current figure is 120, now that the Ancient furniture and gold trophies are in the game.
Want the Comfort Without the Crafting?
Crafting a full set of top furniture plus every station takes a lot of materials. On PC, the store's comfort furniture and craft stations package lists all the furniture needed for +70 comfort plus all 20 crafting machines, delivered in-game. As its listing puts it, higher comfort increases rest time, so you return home less often for stamina.
Every other Enshrouded service, plus a modded save that covers PS5 and PC, is listed on the Enshrouded store page.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the max comfort level in Enshrouded?
The official wiki lists 120: the best item in each of 15 categories plus 1 point from the Flame Altar. Musical instruments can add a temporary +1 to +3 on top.
Does comfort make the Rested buff stronger?
No. The wiki says the stamina and regeneration bonus is tied to character level. Comfort only makes the buff last longer.
Why am I not getting the Rested buff?
Check all four conditions: no enemies nearby, comfort items placed, warmth plus a roof, and that you are sitting or lying down.
How long does Rested last per comfort level?
The wiki says about one minute per comfort level but notes the real value differs and has been reported as a possible bug. Keen has not published an exact formula.
What gives the most comfort in Enshrouded?
Gold boss trophies at 10 each, then the Ancient bed, chair, stool, bench and table at 9, and the Maritime bathroom pieces and Granite Throne at 8.
Is the Well Rested skill worth it?
For explorers, yes. It costs 1 skill point and the wiki's Skills page says it adds 5 minutes to the base Rested duration.
