Dragon's Dogma 2 Eternal Ferrystone and Portcrystals

For most of its life, fast travel in Dragon's Dogma 2 was a luxury. Ferrystones cost 10,000 gold each and vanished after one use, so early on you walked or took the oxcart. That changed with the free June 2026 title update, which added the Eternal Ferrystone: a Ferrystone you never use up.

This guide covers how to get the Eternal Ferrystone, how fixed and portable Portcrystals work, where it pays to place your own, and why the game sometimes tells you that you cannot travel to a Portcrystal. It was checked in October 2026, after the Dark Arisen expansion arrived with its own region to cross.

How to get the Eternal Ferrystone

You get it for free from the story. During the main quest Seat of the Sovran in Vernworth, speak to Captain Brant and he hands it over. If you had already finished that quest before installing the update, the item is added to your inventory automatically, so check your implements before anything else.

It works exactly like a normal Ferrystone, warping you and your party to any Portcrystal you have discovered or placed, except that it is never consumed. Ordinary Ferrystones are still in the game, but once you hold the eternal version there is little reason to buy them.

Fixed vs portable Portcrystals

A Ferrystone can only take you somewhere there is a Portcrystal, and there are two kinds.

  • Fixed Portcrystals stand in major settlements such as Vernworth and Bakbattahl. They are always there once you have found them, and the June update added three more locations. The Dark Arisen expansion's Norgan region also has its own permanent Portcrystals to activate.
  • Portable Portcrystals are items you carry and set down anywhere outdoors to create your own warp point. According to the Fextralife wiki you can have up to 10 placed at once, carry up to 99, and pick one back up to move it.

Portable ones are the scarce part. You earn them as quest rewards, the Sphinx's Riddle of Conviction will duplicate one you give her, the Dragonforged sells one for 20 Wyrmslife Crystals, and the shop price is a steep 50,000 gold.

Best places to put your Portcrystals

With only ten to place, put them where walking hurts most rather than next to places you already reach easily. A few rules of thumb:

  • The far edges of the map. The volcanic island in the south of Battahl is a long, dangerous trip from any town, and it is where you unlock Magick Archer and Warfarer.
  • Places you'll keep returning to. The Sphinx sets several riddles over multiple visits, and the elven Sacred Arbor is out of the way for most routes.
  • Close to farming spots. If you hunt a particular monster for materials or XP, a crystal nearby saves real time.
  • Away from the fixed ones. A portable crystal next to a town that already has a permanent one is a wasted slot.

Remember you can always pick a crystal up and move it, so early placements don't have to be permanent.

Why "you cannot travel to this Portcrystal" appears

This message usually means the game is blocking fast travel for the moment rather than that the crystal is broken. Players most often report it while a quest restricts travel, while escorting or carrying someone, or when the crystal sits somewhere the story has temporarily sealed off. Finish or abandon the step that is holding you, drop whoever you are carrying, and try again. If a crystal you placed still refuses, pick it up and set it down somewhere nearby.

Fast travel and Dark Arisen

The 2026 Dark Arisen expansion (Dragon's Dogma 2's own DLC, not the 2013 Dark Arisen edition of the first game) adds the snowy Norgan region, where blizzards obscure the minimap and drain stamina. Unlocking Norgan's permanent Portcrystals early takes a lot of the sting out of crossing it, and the Eternal Ferrystone works there like anywhere else.

Skip the Portcrystal hunt

If you want to place crystals wherever you like from the first hour, our Dragon's Dogma 2 Level 999 save includes 999+ Port Crystals along with every quest key and all game resources maxed. It also gives you level 999 with edited stats (no death, no stamina drain, one-shot damage), infinite gold and Rift Crystals, unlimited Discipline and every vocation unlocked at max rank, with your main pawn matching your level and stats. The story starts at the beginning; we'd suggest leaving locked doors closed until the story reaches them.

It is $50 for PC or PS5. On PC you get a save file with install steps; on PS5 we sign in and apply it, and the account needs its own PlayStation Plus. Expansion owners can look at the Dark Arisen starter save, which has every permanent Portcrystal active, Norgan included. Both are on our Dragon's Dogma 2 page, and our cheats guide compares the other shortcuts.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get the Eternal Ferrystone?

Speak to Captain Brant during the main quest Seat of the Sovran. If you finished that quest before the June 2026 update, the Eternal Ferrystone is added to your inventory automatically.

Is the Eternal Ferrystone on PS5 and Xbox?

Yes. It came in a free title update for every version of the game, so console players get it the same way as PC players.

How many Portcrystals can I place?

Up to 10 portable Portcrystals at once, on top of the fixed ones in settlements. You can pick a placed crystal back up and move it whenever you like.

Where can I buy portable Portcrystals?

They are expensive at 50,000 gold in shops. Cheaper routes are quest rewards, the Dragonforged's Wyrmslife Crystal shop, and the Sphinx, who duplicates one during her Riddle of Conviction.

Why does it say I cannot travel to this Portcrystal?

Fast travel is usually blocked by something temporary, such as a quest restriction, an escort or carrying someone. Finish or drop that and try again, or move the crystal if it was placed in an awkward spot.

Do I still need normal Ferrystones?

Not really. Once you have the Eternal Ferrystone it does the same job without being used up. Spend your gold on portable Portcrystals instead.
