Discord Ban Appeal: How to Ask Discord to Review a Ban

Discord YouTube thumbnail: The WORST Ban Appeals on Discord

To appeal a ban on your Discord account, log in to the suspended account, open the violation on your Account Standing page and use the Let us know option, or submit Discord's support form and choose "Appeal an action taken on my account or bot." Discord's Terms of Service say you can appeal any enforcement action, including suspensions and terminations, and users in the European Union get six months from the decision to do so. Some bans have shorter windows or cannot be appealed at all, so check which kind you have before writing anything.

We checked this against Discord's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines, the Discord Warning System article, the EU DSA Dispute Resolution Options article, the Chargebacks and Fraudulent Charge Suspension FAQs, the support ticket guide and the minimum age lockout article, in November 2026.

A Discord Ban Versus a Server Ban

The word "ban" covers two very different things on Discord, and only one of them goes through Discord's appeal system. Before writing an appeal, make sure you know which one happened to you.

  • A server ban removes you from one community. It is set by that server's owner or moderators using the Ban Members permission, and your account works normally everywhere else. Only that server's own staff can lift it, usually through whatever appeal process the server publishes.
  • A Discord ban, which Discord now calls a suspension, is an action by Discord itself against your whole account. It can be temporary, lasting up to one year, or permanent. This is what the rest of this guide covers.

If you can still log in and use other servers, you were banned by a server, not by Discord. If logging in shows a suspension screen or your Account Standing lists an active violation, the action came from Discord. Our guide to a disabled Discord account helps if the screen you see does not match either description.

What You Can Appeal and How Long You Have

Discord's appeal rights are broad, but the details and deadlines vary by the reason for the action.

  • Rule violations and suspensions. Every violation notice includes a link to request a review, and Discord says it prioritizes users who believe they were permanently suspended in error.
  • Permanent suspensions. These do not expire. Discord gives a grace period to appeal, after which the account's username is released for others to claim.
  • EU decisions under the DSA. Users covered by the Digital Services Act have six months to appeal decisions such as account suspension or content removal.
  • Chargeback suspensions. Appealable, but data on these accounts is deleted or anonymized 90 days after the suspension begins, and later appeals cannot be processed.
  • Fraudulent Charge suspensions. Discord's FAQ calls these permanent and not eligible for appeal.
  • Minimum age suspensions. Handled through a self-service age check rather than a written appeal.

One more rule shapes every appeal: you cannot appeal your overall standing, only the specific violations that make it up. Our explainer on how Discord account standing works shows how those violations are listed and when each expires.

Route One: Appealing From Inside the App

A suspended account can still log in to view Account Standing for the full length of the suspension, and this is the quickest place to start. Discord's DSA article gives the path as User Settings, then My Account, then Standing.

  1. Log in to the suspended account on desktop, mobile or in a browser.
  2. Open Account Standing and find the active violation you disagree with.
  3. Select it and choose Let us know in the standing window.
  4. Explain why you believe the decision was a mistake and submit.

The violation DM that Discord sent when it took action also contains a link to the same review webform. Either entry point reaches the review team, so use whichever you can reach. If you cannot log in at all because of a password or email problem rather than the ban, sort that out first with our Discord account recovery guide, since the in-app route needs a working login.

Minimum age suspensions have their own button. On the Minimum Age Requirements violation card, press "Confirm you meet the minimum age requirement in your region" and complete one of the offered age checks. Discord says the result typically arrives within seconds, and our guide to confirming your age group on Discord explains each method.

Route Two: The Support Form

If the in-app option is not available, or your issue is a payment-related suspension, use Discord's support form. The Chargebacks FAQ spells out the selections: under "How can we help?" choose "Appeal an action taken on my account or bot," then under "What would you like to appeal?" choose "An action taken on my account." Discord's Terms of Service link to the same appeal form.

The Help Center uses its own login, separate from your Discord app account. To file your first ticket, go to support.discord.com, select Sign in, then Sign Up, and enter your name and email. Discord emails an activation link from support@discord.com so you can set a Help Center password. Once signed in, choose the category, fill in the subject and description, attach screenshots if useful, and submit. A confirmation email with your ticket number follows; keep it.

Use the email address tied to the suspended account where you can. It makes it easier for the reviewer to find the right account, and it keeps the conversation in one place if they need to reach you.

Writing an Appeal Reviewers Can Act On

Reviewers see your account history and the violation record. Your job is to add context they do not already have, clearly and briefly.

  • Name the violation. Quote the policy shown on the violation card so there is no doubt which decision you are appealing.
  • Say what happened. Give dates, the server or DM involved, and what you did or did not do. Stick to facts.
  • Explain the mistake. Missing context, a misread joke between friends, content posted by someone else, or a compromised account are the kinds of explanations a reviewer can verify.
  • Attach real evidence. For chargebacks, Discord asks for the reason the dispute was filed, proof you withdrew it if you did, and a screenshot from your actual billing statement showing amount, date and descriptor. Discord receipts are not accepted.
  • Stay civil. Insults and threats do not speed anything up.

A simple structure works for most cases. Open with one sentence identifying the account and the violation. Follow with a short paragraph describing what actually happened, in order, with dates. Then add a paragraph on why you believe the decision was wrong, pointing to the evidence you attached. Close by saying what you have done since, such as resetting your password, enabling two-factor authentication or leaving a server that was breaking the rules. Keep the whole thing to a few short paragraphs; a reviewer working through a queue will understand a clear, specific appeal far faster than a long one, and admitting a genuine mistake where you made one tends to read better than denying everything.

If someone else had access to your account when the violation happened, say so plainly and describe how you regained control. Discord's own security pages warn that malicious links and fake "free Nitro" offers are built to steal logins, and a stolen account is often what spreads them next, so that context changes how a reviewer reads the record.

After You Submit: Waiting and What Not to Do

Discord's Warning System article gives no fixed response time and says it may take time to respond to every request. If you have more to add, reply to your original ticket email rather than opening a new ticket, as Discord's support guide asks. Duplicate tickets do not move you up the queue.

EU users have one more option after the internal process. Discord's DSA article says you may be able to take the dispute to an out-of-court settlement body certified by an EU member state, although Discord is not bound by those bodies' decisions.

Avoid these mistakes while you wait:

  • Do not create another account to carry on. The Community Guidelines tell users not to evade permanent Discord-level enforcement, and Discord says it may act on every account it can link to the same person.
  • Do not pay "appeal services." Discord warns that scammers pose as employees offering to appeal actions on your account. Staff do not contact users through the app for support.
  • Do not file a bank chargeback for anything Discord-related while appealing, since chargebacks can trigger a suspension of their own.

After a Final Decision

Not every appeal succeeds, and some people start looking at other accounts afterward. The store's Discord section lists accounts from independent sellers, with listings that change daily. Two of Discord's own rules apply directly here: its Terms of Service say users agree not to license, sell, lend or transfer an account or username without Discord's prior written approval, and its Community Guidelines prohibit evading permanent Discord-level enforcement.

In practical terms, if your own account was permanently suspended, a different account is not a way back onto Discord. The appeal routes above are the legitimate path, and they are worth using fully, especially within the deadlines that apply to your case.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a Discord ban appeal take?

Discord's help pages give no fixed timeframe, and the Warning System article says it may take time to respond to every request. It does say it prioritizes users who believe they were permanently suspended by mistake.

Can you appeal a permanent Discord ban?

Yes, within the grace period Discord gives after a permanent suspension. Fraudulent Charge suspensions are the documented exception, which Discord says are not eligible for appeal.

Where is the Discord appeal form?

Use the link in your violation notice, the Let us know option on your Account Standing page, or the support form at support.discord.com with "Appeal an action taken on my account or bot" selected.

Can Discord unban me from a server?

Server bans are set by that server's owner or moderators, so ask the server's staff. Discord's appeal process covers actions Discord itself took against your account.

How long is a temporary Discord suspension?

Temporary suspensions can last up to one year. Your account and username are kept for that time, and access returns when the suspension ends.

I was banned for being underage but I am old enough. What do I do?

Log in, open the Minimum Age Requirements violation card and press the button to confirm you meet the minimum age in your region, then complete one of the age checks offered.
